Airbnbs or bed and breakfasts are usually more our cup of tea, but the four humans of our family recently squeezed into a double queen bedroom at Hampton Inn Rutland for the camaraderie of staying with other ski team families. It was a blast and the hotel was quite pleasant for the genre (mid-range, family friendly). Pros: - There's a nice common room downstairs with a fireplace, where we were able to gather with a big group of friends and share dinner. It's also where breakfast is served in the a.m. - Breakfast service begins at 6 a.m. -- great for those who need an early start. - My kiddos love "Hotel Breakfast" as they call it, and this was no exception. There are two DIY waffle irons with lots of wonderfully unhealthy toppings; hot mini omelettes, sausage, and potatoes; muffins, bagels, toast; cold cereal and oatmeal; fruit salad and whole fruit. - We either had very quiet neighbors or the walls are reasonably well soundproofed. - There's a small, heated pool. It's hyperchlorinated as most hotel pools are, but a nice place to congregate and relax with friends after skiing. - There's a small, but adequate gym -- and a conference room should you need it. - The hotel adjoins a shopping complex that includes a Hannaford's supermarket, an Office Depot and a Michael's. Convenient for friends who had to find poster board for a school project due the following Monday. And we picked up fruit trays and dessert for our team dinner. - The hotel is dog friendly! We traveled without our pup this time, but did get to hang with some great guest canines. This is a massive plus in our book. - Beds were quite comfortable and staff were nice! Two people even dressed up as Santa and Mrs. Claus to say hello to the kids at dinner. :) Cons: - The elevator was out of order during our stay, so those of us staying on the third floor with lots of ski gear to carry up and down got a GREAT workout. - The pool is quite small, more of a cooler-than-usual hot tub than anything else -- so don't expect to swim laps. - There's no fan or ventilation in the bathroom. After four showers, it gets pretty steamy. Neutral: - It's about 30 minutes from Killington Mountain. There are more proximate, dog friendly hotels (e.g. Killington Mountain Lodge) and Airbnbs, but Hampton Inn Rutland may be better priced. - Our room temperature defaulted to 68 or 69 F. I love that it's eco-friendly and it was a good temperature for putting on ski gear -- but we usually keep our home a bit warmer than this. You can change the temperature of course, but ours kept defaulting to the cooler setting at night. - We're not big TV watchers, but for those who are, I think you need to sign in to Netflix, Disney+, etc... with your own account logins. The hotel does not have its own subscriptions. Overall, this was a great, budget-friendly place to stay with a group! read more

What a disappointment. To start its showing its age, carpets are old and dirty, riddled with stains. The large bedroom is dark with little character, and almost no artwork. The TV is so small (estimate 36 inch ) and in the corner so far away. No fridge and when I called for ice the told me it was on a different floor but we had no ice bucket, it took them over a hour and a half to deliver one. The bathroom had terrible lighting and my wife couldn't put her makeup on. The entire suite is very old and needs a major upgrade before i stayed here again. read more

Clean. Comfortable bed. Heating system is relatively quiet. Pool is ridiculously small. No hot tub. Decent breakfast. This place was a bit of a zoo on the Friday night we were there. Clean but small with a family of 4 it was a little hard to get around not very kid friendly but has a cute swing in the front that the kids loved. There is a sweet that was alright, it's enough room for us but it is a lot of money. If you are on a top floor the floors are VERY VERY squeaky. LOTS of cracks in the wall. Overall it's a alright place to stay in but not the best quality you should get a better hotel!!! read more

We stayed here one night in January (Sat). First, check in was not a warm and fuzzy experience. We are Hilton Gold members and we are usually offered complimentary water or something, but that was not the case here. The woman checking us in was rather curt and I found that off putting. Also I had selected a room online when I checked in and when I arrived I was told that I was not getting that room because they had to move me because of a stay over (which doesn't sound like my problem). That seems like something that should have been ASKED, not TOLD to me- and in advance of my arrival. We had tried to select a quiet room so that was another irritant. My daughter said she was up all night with the sound of doors slamming and people talking in the hallways. She said it was "the worst hotel sleep she has ever had." The room itself appeared to be clean and we asked for another blanket which was promptly sent up. I did use the fitness center which is where there could be some improvement. I had to wait for a treadmill (many hotels I have stayed at have a sign asking people to limit their time on equipment to 20 minutes when others are waiting) so that was annoying. Plus there was a woman in the weight area using three sets of weights and the entire area as if it was her own. The room was hot as well. I tried to turn on the A/C but the unit was broken. In addition to it being hot, the woman in the weight area was farting. LOUDLY and the entire room was a stink pit. I had to open the door and keep it propped open with a weight to get some fresh air in. In all my years of hotel stays, that is a new one, but the room should have been better ventilated and there should be signs up asking people to be courteous to other guests. I was able to open the window once they all left and get the room cooled down and the smell out but it was gross. Worse yet, when I complained at the front desk to Mar**h, no apology, nothing. She said "we'll have someone look into it." Just not great service for what I am used to at Hilton locations. The breakfast was nice though and I thought they did a good job with that. read more

By far the most modern hotel in Rutland. I'm not one for old musty ski motels that are opened seasonally so this is my go-to hotel when skiing at Killington. Close to Killington, about 20 min away but a very easy and scenic drive. Lots of fast food and chain restaurants nearby which is the best you can hope for in Vermont. Grocery store is right next door too. Gets busy in January and February so book way in advance. Has a heated indoor pool and a small gym. Walls are a little thin here so it's easy to hear what is going on in your neighbors room but that's typical for budget hotels. read more

We stayed there on 9/14, everything was great except the duty managers TV channel choice at breakfast. It was set to Fox News. Eventually a guest asked that it be changed, the manager said he would put it on the Weather Channel however he put it on an infomercial channel for car warranties. Why, just to be an ass is my guess. We returned to our room and packed for departure, when leaving I dropped the room key off and checked the TV, it was back on Fox. Let me say, the manager at check in was wonderful, explained things and confirmed our thoughts on a place for dinner, the only think Thai was concerned about was the attitude of the bearded duty manager on the morning of 9/15. He needs to be educated to learn about respect for guests, not everybody wants to watch Fox or CNN, they can do that in their room. The TV was capable of receiving CBS, ABC and NBC. There is no need to act like an ass when a request is made by a guest. Trusting management will comment. (2 weeks later no comment from management, maybe an indication of how much Hilton cares?) read more

Found a foreign object in my bed on the third night of my stay. It was a adhesive pad one would put on their foot if they had a corn. It was used and had obviously fallen off the previous guests foot. Gross. That is proof the bedding was not changed from the previous guest. More alarming than that, the desk clerk was dismissive and suggested it could have came from my shoe. I do not sleep with my shoes on. I got the linen changed but the damage was done. read more

This Hampton Inn is in a pretty good spot, not too far off from the main drag and downtown area in Rutland. The staff is friendly and welcoming and the place is clean, comfy and well taken care of. More than good enough. There's really not much more to say about this Hampton Inn. read more

Rude front desk girl, when asked about my two bottles of water she rolled her eyes and gave me one. For some weird reason, she stared at us every time we passed by. The guy in the morning made us feel normal compared to the weirdo from the previous day, The room was okay but the bed was ultra-soft with no back support, it was the worst sleep I've ever had from a Hilton brand hotel. We stayed in this hotel while attending my brother's graduation in Vermont. We arrived pretty late, around midnight. Check-in was pretty easy and our rooms were still available, which was nice, seeing as though the whole hotel was packed. (There are very few hotels in the area, and I'm assuming a lot of people were staying at this one, as it's the closest to the school). The rooms were nice, very spacious and clean. We stayed in a room with 2 queen beds. The beds were pretty comfortable, not anything luxurious. The bathroom was nice, although the tub was a little clogged, so the water backed up a bit as I showered. Other than that, there weren't any complaints with the room. We had breakfast before checking out the next morning. Although I shouldn't really expect much, I was a little disappointed in the breakfast. Besides the waffles (really good), everything was subpar. The eggs were very wet and the breakfast meats didn't taste so great. Juices were very watered down too. So I just stuck to my waffle. Checkout was super quick and easy. The front desk staff were very kind and attentive. If I ever had to be in the area for some reason, I would most likely stay here again. read more

Family of five in the area to visit Killington Ski Resort. We were happy with our stay at the Hampton Inn, Rutland. We utilized a room with a king size bed, pull out sofa and cot. It was perfect for what we needed. Room was clean. Refrigerator and microwave came in handy for some late night snacks. The 25 minutes to the mountain was an easy, pleasant drive. Complimentary breakfasts were awesome! Also enjoyed the nearby Vermont Tap House and grocery store within walking distance. read more

I really didn't want to write a review only because I wanted to keep this place a secret (haha!) Been staying here for a couple of years now and I just LOVE it!!! Staff is super friendly and hotel is super clean!!! They serve free breakfast (eggs, bacon, sausage, bagels, fruits, cereal, pastries, waffles, etc) til 11am. Hotel is great for large groups, families and even a romantic getaway. My go-to-hotel when I'm in the area, my home away from home. Free wifi, fitness center, indoor pool, free coffee/tea all day in lobby, 24hr vending machine with snacks/drinks and hotel is literally 2 mins walking distance from Taco Bell for any late night cravings. This hotel hasn't disappointed me once. Definitely get your moneys worth! Can't wait to come back!!! FYI: If you want to stay here make sure to make reservations ahead of time! The staff is nice but the quality of this hotel has deteriorated a lot in just a couple of years. Not so clean, wear and tear. Dusty. AC/heating system very noisy. Black mold in the tub where the calking has cracked. Soundproofing non existent. Breakfast is depressing, straight from the microwave. Omelettes were lukewarm, like styrofoam, sausages dry, pastries had been there for a few days at least. This used to be one of the best deals in the area. The staff are beyond courteous, the lobby is extra nice, the breakfast is more expanded than usual, the pool & gym are very nice, the views out of the rooms look into the mountains & its conveniently located right on Rt 7. Room was large and spacious. Mini fridge, microwave, and coffee maker included. The couch, coffee table, and desk take were near the window. The black out curtain worked wonders. There was smallest gap for light to come through, but nothing a clip wouldn't cover. It made the room incredibly dark, even in the middle of the afternoon. Bed was alright. Nothing to write home about, but no problems either. Standard hotel bed. My only complaint about the room would be the fridge and air conditioner were LOUD. I don't give four star ratings to many hotels so a four star review is good for this one. Our room, featured two queen beds, and had plenty of room for my wife and our four year old. I was traveling for work and took the family, for this longer than usual trip. Our daughter likes to sleep in a popup tent, and not on the extra bed, and we had room to set this up with no problem. I used the work station and desk each evening for several hours and it was comfortable and had plenty of room for my laptop and books to prep for classes I was teaching. The internet was good and had adequate speeds, even on the complimentary access, to stream Netflix and music. The front desk staff was very polite and extremely helpful, and all the staff we interacted with, during our 10 days there were great. The indoor pool is small, but well kept and neat. Breakfast was typical of most hot buffets in the same price range, coffee and tea was available 24/7 in the lobby and for once, was not terrible, like most hotel coffee. The breakfast was consistent, and well attended to by the staff. Would definitely come back if ever in the area, and we appreciated the location in Rutland, being next to a grocery store and other necessary shops during our stay here. read more

I cannot day enough about this hotel! This weekend was my first time staying but definitely not my last. I wanted a place for a quick relaxing night and the hotel is perfect for that. The reason I will be returning however is mainly for their next level customer service. When I went to leave in the morning all four of my car doors were frozen shut. Being Sunday there were not as many resources to help me and I was panicking a bit. Mariah (hope I spelled that correctly) at the front desk saw me and offered to help! It was freezing outside but she helped me by climbing in my trunk to get a back door unlocked and get the car started up and warming up! She did not have to go that extra mile but she did and it was so so appreciated!! In addition to that 5 star customer service I loved the hotel for the usual things one would enjoy a stay. Great room that was spacious and had all amenities you would need plus a beautiful fireplace and a big jetted tub. Rutland has some great places to get dinner as well so after a nice night out it was fantastic to come back and relax in front of the fire! Breakfast in the morning had something for everyone as well from toast and cereal to waffles and omelets. I needed a place to crash last minute due to my car needing repair. The service was nothing short of exceptional. Rates were fair, staff was knowledgable, rooms were clean and the cookies delicious. Peggy made it her personal responsibility to make sure my wife made it to the Rutland Train Station and the local cab service would pick us up promptly on multiple occasions. Both Karra and Peggy went above and beyond to ensure I had a room available when I came back into town later in the week. I would definitely stay here again. Clean, relatively new Hampton Inn in Rutland, conveniently located. Service is very friendly. Breakfast is the usual motel morning buffet fare. The heating/cooling units are loud and the indoor pool small. The fitness center is reasonable. Great place for an inexpensive stay in the Rutland area. I wish they had a negative number of stars. This is the most unprofessional Hotel I've ever encountered in my entire life and I Stay hundreds of hotels a year. Hilton just lost a very good customer. 3 days ago I canceled my two nights today and tried to book one night. The system wouldn't allow me I called and spoke to the front desk. I was informed that my reservation was still showing but they couldn't do anything about it and there were no other rooms to book me for one night. They gave me a number to call I called it no one could help me so they conference the hotel in and now I'm on the phone and no one can help me. I was staying for a Friday and Saturday night. So I went and booked two nights figuring I just paid for both. I checked in on Thursday through my phone app. My wife showed up Saturday to check in and they gave our room away. Is about 4 people that work there they all know who I am I knew I only needed Saturday night and still they decided to to cancel and they call it a no-show no call. The people that work there are completely incompetent and again Hilton just lost a customer. read more
