Orchid didn't really move to the top of my list until recently when my friend's family flew in from Dhaka and ended up going there twice during their visit because they loved it so much. They went once for lunch and once for dinner, and after hearing them talk about it, we decided we had to give it a try. We came in on a Saturday afternoon and were actually the only table there, which can sometimes feel like a red flag. But considering how much my friend's family from Dhaka enjoyed it, I wasn't too worried. We ordered the beef tehari, mutton rezala, green chili naan, and paneer kulcha naan. The food took about 15-30 minutes to come out, which was totally reasonable. Everyone working there was incredibly friendly and kept checking in on us. They also made several recommendations, and you could tell there was a lot of pride in the food they were serving and sharing. We started with the mutton rezala, which was excellent. The mutton was tender and juicy, and the stew had really nice layered spices and herbs. I had never tried rezala before, but it immediately stood out. The beef tehari was a little more disappointing. It was slightly dry, and the beef wasn't as tender as the mutton in the rezala. They did serve biryani on the side with the rezala, which I actually thought was better than the tehari. Since I don't have much experience with tehari, I probably need to try it at more places before forming a strong opinion, but this one leaned a bit dry for my taste. The real stars of the meal were the naans. Both the green chili naan and the paneer kulcha naan were fantastic. They came out warm and fresh from the tandoor, nice and chewy with a little crisp on the outside. The green chili naan was my favorite. It had great flavor and texture and paired really well with the rezala. We also ordered a mango lassi on the side. It was good but not particularly memorable compared to the rest of the meal. Overall, the experience was very positive. The staff was welcoming, the food showed a lot of care, and it felt like a great introduction to Bengali food for people who might not be familiar with it. The menu is also very approachable, with plenty of dishes and even some Indo-Chinese options, which makes it easy for newcomers to explore. Unique, traditional Mongolian dishes with wonderful service. It's so cool that you can see that the restaurant is a hub of culture and community as well. SoCal Mongolian community loves Arag. They have karaoke nights and other events that support the community (I think an attorney who works with the Mongolian community does events here too), so that's always a plus in my book. Love all of the traditional decor and knick knacks here as well as the M-pop and music videos that they play on TV too. We managed to find free parking nearby, so it is possible. For our later lunch, we got the: 1) Mongolian Hot Tea: -This was a salted milk tea when I had it. Very unique and the slight saltiness with the sweet milky taste is refreshingly different from other places. Definitely a bit of an acquired taste but I like it whenever I have it. 2) Deep Fried Flat Dumplings (Khuushuur): -Comes with 3 pieces, it's deep fried dumplings with your choice of protein in a crispy dough shell. We got the lamb offal since it's the most unique one that they had. I don't usually eat organ meat but this wasn't too iron-y or ammonia tasting like other times I've had organ meats and was seasoned to perfection. No weird texture either. -Every culture has some form of dumpling/hot pocket-esque food that is delicious and super easy to eat. This is a popular street food in Mongolia and you can easily see why. Moist delicious seasoned meat in a crispy dough shell? Say no more. -Comes with a small side of their slaw salad. 3) Smoked Stir-Fried Noodles with Beef Brisket: -This was our "main" entree with carbs and protein. -It's smoked Tsuvian (actual name of the dish) with traditionally prepared hand pulled and pan fried noodles, made with beef brisket and julienne carrots, zucchini, and homemade salted chives. -It's a simple dish you can find in many other cultures but the seasoning, the way the noodles are prepared, makes it delicious in it's own way. Perfect for those who want to try something new, but don't want to dive off of the deep end so quick. 4) Steamed Soup/Bituu Shul: -This is a traditional sealed soup with tender mutton, slow cooked in a sealed pot with wild herbs, garlic, and ginger. -Super unique dish and very eye catching. Seeing this on the menu I had to get it. You can drum the top of the dough with your spoon like a drum. Pretty fun! -It's a very flavorful broth soup that has a strong flavor of lamb and herbs. Perfect for a cold day or if you're feeling a bit under the weather. The dough pieces make for nice "pasta like noodles" for the soup. Lots of lamb meat pieces in it too. Definitely recommend, but next time I want to get borscht too since it's one of my favorite soups. A must for unique and delicious food!

The door was locked and the owner was inside and had to open it for me. We chatted a little while he put together my falafel sandwich fresh off the grill. Everything was take-out only so there was really no ambiance to base anything on. The falafels were crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside and I asked him to add all the sides in there, which looks like cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, hummus, and a spicy sauce mixture.
