Our orders were taken fairly promptly, though food preparation took a bit of time. I had the Manta and the Goyro Laghman. The Manta was somewhat of a disappointment, with the beef being on the dry side. The Goyro Laghman, however, was absolutely delicious! Sooo I really wanted this place to be good. Been wanting to try Uyghur food for so long. This was my first time so I guess maybe I needed more guidance on what to get because I did not know honestly. I asked the server and we did get what he recommended which was the chicken noodle dish in my picture. That was pretty good. The lentil soup had no flavor. Is that how lentil soup is supposed to be? LOL Idk - it was my first time. If it is, then it was fine. But if it's supposed to have flavor then they definitely didn't pass. The naan was pretty bland as well. Is that just how Uyghur naan is supposed to be like? Again, idk so if someone can inform me then that'd be great and I can update this potentially. I normally don't like to eat rice in Uyghur restaurants just because their noodle usually is very great, but the guoyourou (don't think it's a correct spelling) with rice is not a bad choice if you wanna try something different. Terrible food! I spent about $100 on lunch over the weekend using UberEATS. The food was awful. One of the dishes ordered was the shrimp kebab platter. Check out the pics, as they speak for themselves. One pic is how the dish is represented on their menu. The other pic is what I received....a box full of rice with a few veggies and THREE SHRIMP. Moving five stars to four. I found a winner in the lamb Gam Bian Soman, but there's so little lamb included that it feels like a joke. The first order had four ring-fingernail pieces of lamb in the entire dish. I was digging around thinking a mistake was made. Second order a few weeks later, same thing. Third order, I had to add several lamb kabobs to throw in the entree just to have enough meat. I still love the flavor, but that's ridiculous. read more

Went here for dinner with my coworkers a couple weeks ago. We've never had Uyghur food and all three of us really enjoyed our meal. The eggplant salad was delicious, and I'm not a big eggplant fan. I ate a delicious dinner at Eerkin's last week. This is a wonderful neighborhood place with excellent service. The hand pulled noodles with chicken and vegetables were delicious. The noodles were so long I kept spinning my fork around and around, and I never found the ends. The eggplant salad and naan were also solid as was the fava bean appetizer - very hearty, like vegetarian chili. I've read too much about Uyghurs in recent years not to be curious about this restaurant. The cuisine appears to incorporate flavors I associate with south asian cookery combined with a various noodles dishes and salads. They feature vegetarian and a variety of meats, including goat (as long as you're willing to order a whole one). This is a halal restaurant, so no pork or alcohol but they do serve an imported malt beverage which went well with our meal. They also offer a variety of teas. The decor is intriguing as well, with a variety of cultural artifacts and large art pieces depicting what I imagine to be scenes from Uyghur folk tales. In addition to traditional tables and chairs, there is also floor seating available with brightly colored cushions. I gathered that from time to time they offer live jazz, although perhaps not much since the pandemic. If they were ever to offer an evening of traditional music, I would probably be first in line for that. It also looks like it would be a fun place to book out for a private party. The only reasons I didn't add a fifth star were owing to the lighting being rather too bright and the space being rather echo-y which inhinited our conversation. Also, our server (who was perfectly friendly) but not particularly attentive or efficient could do with some coaching. Some more creative lighting choices along with some curtains or table cloths to dampen the background noise and this would be a memorable place for certain. read more

This was my first time trying Uyghur cuisine after hearing about it from a couple friends. We decided to go with Goryo Laghman (chicken) & lamb kebab skewers. Both were really good. The hand-pulled noodles were fantastic, and both dishes had flavor that packed a punch. If you're into flavorful food and feeling a little adventurous, give Uyghur cuisine a try. I'm glad I did. I had the Gyro Laghman (Gluten Free) which was rice noodles with stir fried vegetables and chicken, and drank a mango yogurt drink that was on special (I don't see it on the menu but it tasted like lassi.) While running errands in DC I knew my husband and I will be famished from all the running around. I wanted to try something that we haven't tried before and came across Uyghur restaurants. We decided to try Eerkin's based on the Yelp reviews, and the location being closer to where we were. Even though you enter from the ground floor, the actual restaurant is on the 2nd floor. There is a nice bar with different types of tea in glass canisters displayed. One part of the restaurant has a platform with low tables where you can take your shoes off and be seated. We opted to sit next to the windows (we got there around 4, and only 1 other person was dining so we pretty much had our pick of the table). The server seemed young, but was very attentive, helpful, and also answered all of our questions. We ordered samsa (similar to samosa, but with meat filling. It had a subtle middle eastern spices, and was really delicious), chicken and veg laghman (nice noodle dish with chopped chicken and various veggies. The seasoning/spice was really good. A happy marriage between Chinese and Middle Eastern seasonings), lamb kebab with naan (chopped lamb kebab over Uyghur naan. Lamb was well seasoned, and their naan, not your typical naan like the Indian naan, but this reminded me of a tender, but sturdy flat bread), and manta (Uyghur dumplings! ). We also ordered Uyghur spiced tea; I don't remember all the spices in it, but the dominant flavours were cardamom and rose. I liked it so much I bought their loose tea in a small glass jar. It was rather pricey, because for about a 4oz jar it was $15. Yes, that's how much I enjoyed the tea! I definitely carbo loaded, but everything we ate was purely delicious! Before coming to this place I never knew that I had already tried uyghur food. Apparently it's the cuisine of Xinjiang people in Asia. The cuisine is halal and incorporates a lot of wheat based foods like bread, nan, noodles and pastries. It's food is like Turkish meets Chinese. Very interesting! I've had the lamb skewers many times before, including some in Beijing, but these were very comparable in flavor. It is on the pricy side but in my opinion worth a try! It's served on an actual skewer so it was a slight challenge to eat. I also got Goyro Laghman (chicken stir fry with veggies and hand pulled noodles). The noodles were awesome. Definitely tasted handmade. I also got a mint lemonade which was very refreshing (it's blended mint leaves with lemonade. I would highly recommend and return to this chain restaurant. read more

I read the reviews and was excited to try this kind of food. Our Order was via Yelp and was $160. We tried many things yelped about. After 1 hour and 15 with no delivery we got an update : 15 mins. After another 1/2 hr k called and they couldn't find the order. I'm sure it is confusing when using many delivery services. They finally did find it and say it was on its way - just left. So it did arrive after two hours, yelp driver said that they had to wait at the restaurant half hour for it. They did miss one dish for my order and eggplant appetizer. But at this time it was 945 and the restaurant was going to close soon so we couldn't call to ask for it. How anyone feels about a certain kind of food is very subjective for the most part. However I feel like anyone would say that there's naan was like communion wafers, Or week old Pita. We had ordered one that was the butter non-, however there was no difference between that and the other one dry and hard as rocks and very small. We thought five dollars for a kebab is that a great deal until you open it and it is for a very tiny dried out pieces of chicken very small. We had a vegetarian rice noodle dish that had really no flavor at all. One thing that was very tasty was a half chicken with potatoes and noodles, but it was $24. We mix that with all theOther food so we could distribute the flavor. Also all the dishes and apps (aside from the $24 one) were very small, does not even feel half the take out containers. I'm not trying to take and restaurant, and the delivery is a kind of thing that mistakes can be made easily. But when I say 45 minutes and it's over two hours we do expect to get an update. It was my first time trying out Uygher cuisine and this location did not dissapoint! We ordered the home made rice (with chicken), dapanchi small and manta. The portion were huge and definitely worth the price. All the dishes were flavorful! The dapanchi was flavorful and mildly spicy- the chicken in this dish was mind blowing with it being tender and all the spices embedded into it! The manta was packed with meat; however, was not my favorite dish but would recommend trying it at least once before making an opinion. I walked past this restaurant for weeks, always intrigued but never brave enough to take the plunge and try a new cuisine. What a shame -- All those wasted weeks without knowing the delights to be discovered within. Finally, it was my son who ventured in to explore the myriad of teas - and invited his mother and I to join him for dinner. From the street the place looks quiet and uninviting. A couple of empty tables and a counter with a lone person. A long staircase however will magically transport you to another world, just follow the carpeted stairs upward until ... Shazaaam! Welcome to Eerkin! Paintings and photographs adorn the wall, evoking an evening from Arabian Nights. The menu reads like an article in the National Geographic- Gam Bian Soman, Chuchura, Shakshukah - and the taste is beyond delicious- the perfect mix of spices and texture immediately transports your tastebuds to a land you never knew existed. Noodles and kebabs and salads that seem at once Asian and Middle Eastern. I have never been to Uighur, in the far West of China, but it is now on my bucket list. If you like your noodles a little chewy and girthy (hehe), you have to come to Eerkin's for their laghman (hand pulled noodles). The goyro laghman, in particular, was super packed with flavor. Think Chinese stir fried noodles with a Turkish flair. The shape and size of the noodles also held the spices and sauces well so that every single slurp was delicious. We also ordered the naren choop, which were noodles with boiled lamb. It was a little soupier than expected, and the noodles weren't as thick as the laghman. While good, it definitely paled in comparison to the goyro laghman. The kebabs (especially the lamb) were juicy and the kathlama naan were buttery. Both were great supplements to the noodles. I hope Eerkin's has better luck than past restaurants that had occupied this space. Can't wait to come back to get my noodle fix and also try the dumplings and rice dishes! On a cold and rainy day, comfort food is an obvious option. For me, comfort food comes by way of hand-pulled noodles...tender chunks of meat...warm spices. Naturally Uighur cuisine is an obvious choice that ticks off all these boxes! We didn't try too much of the menu, but the Goyro Laghman noodles with lamb and the chop fry noodles (also with lamb) were very good. The sauces were a tad too much "tomato-y" but the meat was tender and the noodles had that doughy chew to them that I love. I can't do much in terms of hot spice, but the spices used here are perfect for heightening flavor and tantalizing tastebuds. Next time I'd love to order some different dishes to really round out my menu experience (and hopefully before long we will feel comfortable dining in restaurants again and I can get the full experience!). My husband was hoping for a tofu dish but it appears they don't have any (at least not currently - I know many restaurants have different/limited menus right now). read more

Very happy I finally made the trip out here. The biggest disappointment is that they don't serve alcohol but they're Muslim so what can I expect? The hand pulled noodles are great - it's like taking a trip to flushing, ny without the traffic nightmares. Firm, Chewy, and with a nice bounce they carried the flavor of the sauce very well. My favorite dish of the night was the lamb kebab. If I had to redo it again, I would opt against the beef kebab which tastes like xi'an style spicy beef (used in a bun or hand cut noodle) and just buy 5 skewers and some nan. The lamb kebabs have that wonderful charred taste of grease hitting the coals and have a wonderful cumin and pepper based spice mix. Despite being small bite sized chinks of meat, they were tender, succulent, and cooked to medium with a nice char on the outside. That skewer could not have been more perfect! Meat samsas were great too - the pastry was tender and flaky and the meat filling was nicely spiced but mild. The least interesting dish was the Uyghur salad - I wanted the eggplant but my bf was not on board so I opted for carrots and cukes for my veg. There wasn't much to it - a light sesame and soy sauce flavor with cilantro. It wasn't bad by any means but I could have lived without it. They have a large tea menu and if I were to fault them I felt that the mixes were not traditional as they had too many with fruit flavors which made me feel like I was looking a teavana menu. I would be more interested in a traditional tea menu with pu'erh teas and other hard to find blends that Starbucks isn't stocking anytime soon. To top everything off I had a wonderful slice of honey cake - I'm not a dessert person so when I like the dessert it's special. Not overly sweet, it was simple yet unique. I am so excited to find the DC branch open as the one in Fairfax is so far away. I cannot wait to try as a big fan of Uyghur food. We arrived at 5:30pm on a Saturday and there was plenty of seats. Smells very good and fresh out of the oven. It was very tasty but very hot so be careful :) - lamb skewer: my husband really liked it. It was chunky meat with both fatty and lean part - dapanchi (big plate chicken): I really looked forward to this dish. We were told it might take 25min to arrive but it arrived surprisingly fast. Overall it was a solid dish but too much green pepper - beef fried chopped noodles: this is the most disappointing. First of all, it appeared to be reheated or cold when it came up. It looked greasy and not very fresh. Second, the beef was hard to chew. I was disappointed - lamb shank with house naan: solid dish. The lamb was fresh and tender but firm at the same time. It went well with the house made sauce Service was great! Our water was refilled constantly. Service was fast as well. There are definitely items on the menu such as the honey cake and homemade yogurt that I wanted to try but this place was pricy as well. Uyghur food is my favorite cuisine. I have made a point of trying Uyghur food in each large city that I visit. I can say with certainty that this is the best Uyghur food that I have ever had. This restaurant doesn't look like anything special when you walk past it on the sidewalk. That is because the street level space is simply for take out orders. The dining room is upstairs. And the dining room is spacious and decorated with authentic Uyghur furnishings. The dining room has a great view of the green space on the other side of the street.
