Walked by storefront and decided Uyghur food sounded way better than Chipotle. PHYSICAL EXAM: Food - Two dishes sampled. The Chop Fried Noodles presented as noodles diced down to a fine, pastina-like consistency -- a preparation I had not previously encountered. Smaller than gnocchi bites. Crisp vegetables were well-integrated throughout, and the flavor profile was savory and deeply developed. Scooping more bites became borderline and compulsion. The Fried Lamb Shank was excellent. Properly fried with no excess gaminess, yet retaining full lamb character. The naan served beneath it functioned as an outstanding sponge for juice and flavor absorption, in addition to itself shining as a fragrant, comforting bread. The cuisine overall blends Middle Eastern and Chinese influences -- aromatics, warming spices, bold umami -- into something unique and hard to find outside of the few Uyghur restaurants that exist. Ambiance - Felt like a family-run establishment with a clear sense of identity -- comfortable, intentional, and built first for their own community. It was quiet during our visit at a weekday lunch hour, but the layout and menu size is conducive to large groups without issue. Easily missed storefront on a street most people are driving by to get in and out of the city. Service - Attentive. Hospitable. Friendly. ASSESSMENT: A highly functioning, underdiagnosed gem. Uyghur Eats delivers a cuisine that many diners don't have meaningful exposure to. Sampled dishes both possessed a balance of restaurant extravagance with homestyle feel. Both dishes were standouts. In the restaurant, there are a lot of pictures and beautiful decor that make me want to learn more about Uyghur culture. The food is also really good! The dishes we ordered were fresh, the meat was tender, and everything tasted homey. I even went back after a few days to get the lamb kebab again. The Butter Naan was perfect It had perfect amount of butter and it was so soft and delicate, I could eat 100 of them. For the entree I got lamb kebab and it was good as well. It was tender and decent flavor, just a lil more flavor would make it perfect. I also tasted the whole fish from my friends plate and that was really good, flaky and flavorful umami taste. The cake had a good taste even though it's not my type of cake. I like moist cakes instead of dry. The employees were very attentive and helpful, my friend was allergic to butter and he made sure they accompanied us. The inside was really nice with the huge paintings and cultural decor. This is one of those escapes from the hustle and bustle in DC. When you walk in it looks like a takeout restaurant and you walk upstairs and are transported to Xinjiang, the home of the Ugyhur people with traditional furniture and aesthetics. The food was amazing to boot! It's very similar to Chinese cuisine but with a mild Russian flavor. First time trying uyghur food! Everything here is halal, and they serve lamb, beef, chicken, or veggie options. If you're looking to splurge, they also cook a whole lamb or goat for $850 (order a day in advance). The laghman noodles were the traditional Chinese thick noodles with a lot of sauce and peppers. Goyro laghman had more sauce and mu'er (wood ear mushroom). I think the best noodle dish was the gambian soman because the noodles were coated in a sauce that made it more flavorful. It was slightly saltier though. All of us got noodles and it was really filling. The chicken in the laghman was also cooked really well, better than the beef. I would recommend gambian soman if you were to get one noodle dish, if you don't mind a saltier brown sauce. Otherwise, get the chicken goyro laghman which comes with mu'er mushrooms. They also sell mango lassi for $9.95, buy one get one free. I think uyghur food tasted to me like a blend of chinese, indian, and turkish cuisine. They were also playing a lot of turkish and hindi songs in the background. There's also a nice seating area on the floor, if you choose (shoes off). All the dining is upstairs so you have to go up the stairs from when you first enter. Service was a bit slow, took them a long time to give us our checks. OK first I have to say we got a lunch delivery so......there's that. The food was truly delicious. We ordered online so there may have been a communication problem. We got one item wrong and were missing one item but were charged for it and when we called about it they said they were out of that item today,a call back to tell us that would have made the experience better. Getting charged for something that you know you don't have is a bit irresponsible. Again the food was really really good so at the end of the day I would say stay away from delivery and go to the restaurant to eat. Had a wonderful New Years Eve dinner here. The restaurant is on the 2nd floor overlooking a neighborhood park. Interior is decorated with Silk Road style paintings, textiles and hats. The menu has Middle Eastern and Asian influences. We shared their house special tea. It had leaves and dried flowers steeped in a clear tea pot. Could taste different hints of flowers in a black tea base. For starters we shared the Adas and the samsas. The former was a light but flavorful lentil dip that came with slices of warm eerkins butter naan. The naan was more doughy and buttery than other types I've had but very good. The samsas were well-seasoned beef turnovers wrapped in a flaky pastry exterior. Both were excellent. Got the spicy yellow cold noodles with lamb kabobs. The noodles were firm and tossed in black vinegar, chili oil and paste, and cilantro. While spicy, still very refreshing. The lamb kabobs were piping hot and tender. Hints of cumin and chili powder on the kabobs enhanced their flavors. My companion enjoyed his gam bian soman. Noise levels were low, staff was friendly. Will be back to try other dishes. read more

Finally made it to Eerkin's and loved the meal. Great food, good prices. This review is for takeout only so I can't speak to the dine-in service. We did have a mishap which was annoying/unfortunate (they forgot a dish, and when we called I spent 10 minutes speaking with two staff members to finally conclude that they couldn't refund for the missing dishes). The order was also not ready on time but I won't remove stars for these. The food was great. Loved the samsas, flaky delicious and addicting. The manta were nice as well, I'm sure better fresh too. Naan was good and so was the quorma - not a standout dish in terms of flavor but still very nice. Favorite dishes were of course the hand pulled noodles, goyro laghman was great and the chopped soman was the standout with a bit of heat and lots of flavor. I will say that the service was spotty, but I'm not a huge stickler for perfect service so it wasn't a huge deal. The food was incredible! Tea - 5 stars This deserves its own category and they have a menu for tea that is longer than their food menu. I had the saffron tea and thoroughly enjoyed it. (Around 6 pm the place was packed with customers) This is my second time trying Uyghur cuisine and it's easily becoming a favorite of mine. The kabobs are just too good and I love the tea culture (this menu had 10 pages dedicated to just tea!) We got the: -Chuchura Soup: A spicy/sour dumpling soup, delicious but the spice adds up! -Yellow Spicy Cold Noodles: Imagine cold spaghetti with a hot and sour oily sauce, it was surprisingly delicious and also came with your choice of kabobs. The first floor is an ice cream shop and the dine in area is upstairs. We came here on a weekday night and there wasn't a wait. We started off with the samsa (two pieces) and they were dumplings stuffed with ground meat. The Eerkin's special fish was a whole fish fried and marinated in a thick savory (pretty salty actually) sauce and came with a bowl of white rice. The kabobs can be ordered individually. We got the chicken and lamb both of which were very flavorful, especially the cumin flavor. Been here several times now and will be going back several more! Some of their dishes used to be inedibly spicy but recently I think they've brought the heat down to a more tolerable and still flavorful level which I'm grateful for! You can't go wrong with anything you order but I do recommend trying a noodle dish, that is definitely their strong suit. The pulao and soups I'd skip, the kabobs and naan are good and so are the salads! They also have a full tea menu which I find super unique! I've only tried the pink tea so far (kashmiri chai) and it's delicious! One thing I'll say though is that for a more pricey restaurant, their service isn't always too great. The tea, noodles, kebabs, and dumplings at Eerkin's are as authentic as it can get to Uyghur cuisine in the states. It's simply and wonderfully delicious. While slurping the long and extra bouncy fresh noodles, we immediately realized Eerkin has probably the best noodles in the city, making it such a gem hidden in a secluded neighborhood of Glover Park. We would love to come back when we are in the neighborhood. While we had such a great food experience, we also noticed we were the only customers on a weekday night, which is a bit worrisome of how this business is doing while relying on food apps during the pandemic. The restaurant is following CDC guidelines very seriously, and we felt very safe eating at Eerkin's. If you're comfortable dining out again, please support this local establishment. Judging from the other Yelp photos, customers had taken photos of being upstairs during the weekends. I love chewy noodles and really enjoy the homemade lahman noodles. The place was not that busy on a Thursday evening. Great vegetarian noodle options, and I love how they can adjust the level of spice and how they cooked a dish without celery when I asked. Eerkin's is one of several Uyghur restaurants in the Washington, D.C. area. For context, Uyghurs are the people group that live in western China. They are Turkic people who are vastly different from the Han Chinese. There are tensions between them and the Chinese government resulting in Uygurs immigrating to Central Asian countries. Uyghurs are Muslim and their cuisine reflects that. There's no alcohol on the menu at Eerkin's, but rather tea. They offer a variety of floral tea as well as milk tea (my personal favorite). The small pot fills 4-5 small cups of tea. Uyghur food is different from Han Chinese food. They use spices, but less intense spices like cumin. The dishes we enjoyed: 1) Samsa and manta: Both are dumplings with meat fillings and light spices. 2) Chicken kebabs: Refreshing and light. 3) Pulao: It's a rice dish with meat, onions, garlic and carrots. 4) Laghman: It's a noodle dish with a few spices. 5) Honey cake: It was tasty, but a tad dry. Overall, the food was decent, but nothing to write home about. Compared to other Uyghur restaurants, I'd say this one falls as average. The service is also pretty poor. We really tried to like this place. Excellent service, we came for late lunch mid week and were the only ones eating in. Very clean, prompt service, but..... the food was terrible with an exception of a shank of lamb ( served on bread or rice) which was good. The worst was Manta ( large steamed dumplings). They were uncooked on the top that became tough and impossible to eat, the bottom though was too thin and broke while cooking, so all meat juices flew out before Manta got to the plate , so you end up chewing half cooked top part of the dumpling shell with dry meat filling. I really leave food on my plate but I could not finish it. Warm eggplant salad was drenched in oil and I could only taste oil. It was missing spices and flavors and the skin rims were tough. Lentil soup was ok- generous portion but quite blah - the explanation was that it is to keep options open for patrons with different salt taste ( sort of - add your own salt). This is something unique and worth trying. It is like eating a combination of Chinese and Turkish food. Noodles are homemade and presented in interesting sauces. Cucumber salad includes a vinegar and almost soy sauce like taste. Meatball soup is perfect on a hot day. We also tried a couple of different teas, much to our delight. I have been to the fairfax location many times and wanted to try this location because of the extensive menu compare to fairfax. We ordered several items and out of the items we ordered I would definitely recommend the lamb kabob skewers, home made noodles with lamb, Samsa, khyber kabaob and the regular mixed tea. The manta is the only item we thought was very plain and needed some type of yogurt sauce or something.
