Had so much fun at Utopian Tailgate last weekend! So different than any other bar in the city. The games are super fun and love the swordfish belly and ribs! The gin and chronic was also amazing. Will be back next weekend for sure! read more

This place is super fun! I thought it'd be way to bro-ey for me but I ended up enjoying every minute of playing mini-golf and bags. Loved the watermelon tequila cocktail - can't wait to come back and try a pretzel. Do I wish there were mirrors in the bathroom? Sure! Gotta look good on the gram! Either way, I get the feeling I'll be back a lot until it gets cold. And then I'll hang in the indoor space! read more

Not your typical "elbow-rubbing" rooftop. This place is MASSIVE! I was there opening night when there was a line down the street, but still felt like I had room to move. Oh, and the games, extensive beer list and fried pickles are spot on. And nothing beats the views!! read more

This place is a blast! We had such a great time and will absolutely go back with friends. The VIEW was incredible and we spent quite a while out there playing games (so fun!). Later, we went inside and it was an equally cool vibe (loved the colorful booths and general decor was just really creative). The night we went it was packed, but one thing I really liked is that even with how big it is, somehow it feels comfortable and homey whether you're inside or outside. It's a super friendly staff, tasty food, no wait time for drinks - RECOMMEND!!! read more

My new favorite place in the city! You don't have to go back to college just to play bags and drink from a cooler, and I couldn't be happier about that. The scenery is amazing - not just the skyline views from the rooftop, but every inch of this place is designed with great colors and happy vibes to make you want to keep exploring. The indoor space is bigger than I'd imagined, which is great - I was worried this gem could only be used a handful of weeks out of the year. Looking forward to trying a full dinner during a Bears game while sitting indoors. Get up there, get some nachos, and try the watermelon cocktail. read more

Let me just start off by saying this place was the bomb... the service, cocktails, ambiance, games, food... everything was amazing. Becky was amazing as always and so were all of the bartenders. The views are spectacular and the atmosphere was so unique compared compared to the rest of the old town bars. If we had one recommendation we would say maybe different glasses for the cocktails to make them more unique but that's literally the only thing we could think of. 5 out of 5 stars would absolutely recommend. read more

I booked Utopian for our company holiday party this year, and it was the best decision I ever made. We're a smaller European software engineering team, so Utopian was the perfect spot for our young, fun, game-loving, hipster chic group. Also q great location in Old Town for those wanting to go out after. Knowing this is one of the few times during the year our team of 60 dresses up, flies in to Chicago, gets together and has a fun night out, Morgen and the Utopian team made organizing this super easy, made sure every detail was perfect and that every request I had was executed to a T. They went out of their way to help - decorating with our company logo , vegan food from the restaurant downstairs for our few vegans, giving me a food tasting before the event, taking our group photos outside in the bitter cold and setting up a personal coat check for our team! The food and drinks were fantastic, and the view of the Chicago skyline on the heated rooftop unforgettable. Would love to have another event here! Thanks Utopian team! read more

See all

This place was so much fun! We made a reservation online only about an hour beforehand because it charges a fee if you no-show but we got there and got to go right up to the roof! There was so many fun things there to take pictures by or stuff to do like tire swings, cornhole/bags, pong, etc. Great place to take pics and just hang out while listening to some great music. However, the drinks were not very good. We all go different mixed drinks and shots and thought they were all bleh but very aesthetically pleasing. Didn't try the food but it looked decent! The service was decent which was a relief bc a lot of reviews said that was the worst part. Would recommend for a fun thing to do one afternoon! read more

Really cool place and vibe, but the music is wayyy too loud and don't expect to get good drinks here, and especially avoid the Mezcal drink!! I ordered it and it's the worst drink I've ever had in my life (and they know it's a terrible drink) and unfortunately they will not replace a new one. They will give you pineapple and simple syrup which did help. read more

So I'm giving this two stars because it's a really good location and a really cool view on the roof. But I came here with two friends recently and we sat down and ate as well as ordered some drinks. It was 45 minutes in between our server coming by each time. We were trying to leave and it was awkward because we hadn't seen our server in like 45 minutes. I ended up having to flag someone else down and then after that it was another 10 minutes. Overall just very poor service. Not sure if there was confusion or what but I would not go back and sit down. Would consider going back and just getting drinks at the bar, however, due to the cool rooftop. read more

So this evening my family decided to attend the Utopian Tailgate. The server we had was horrible. She was very unprofessional. The server rushed us to place our orders. After the orders were place, she never came back to ask if we needed anything else, how was your food etc. No flatware or napkins. I did speak to a manager, regarding the issues, but nonetheless customer service is very important. This could make or break your business. The server needs to be retrained to be able to perform more efficiently. read more

This was my first time coming. Came to celebrate my Bestfriend's birthday. Was supposed to have seating inside....no available seats. So we sat outside in the heat. The views were great. And that's the best part of this review. The food was eh at best. The waitress was nice but didn't do a good job serving. When the food was brought out everyone received their order except me. I had to wait another 10 min to receive my food. I went to the restroom it was disgusting!!! There was garbage everywhere not to mention the urine on the actual toilet. If I didn't have to go as bad as I did I would have held it and went elsewhere. After this experience I will not be returning, I would rather wait in the Portillo's line for their food. If you're coming for drinks ok you'll like it, if you're coming for food pick somewhere better. read more

The atmosphere was pretty cool but the drinks and food were meehh.. we made 5pm reservations and almost everything (food wise) had run out

Absolutely amazing vibes. The outside area is so fun with games and fun seating and the inside vibe I can imagine being really fun at night. Definitely the type of place you go to and take pictures or record and tiktok and the drinks are fantastic. However the food sucks. I had a burger that was pretty overdone and my friend got another sandwich that was pretty dry. The menu is also very limited especially for brunch. The food is definitely edible but for the price just not worth it. If you're just going for the drinks and the vibes it's perfect. Every drink I tried was great and I imagine it's really fun at night. I would definitely go back for drinks alone. But for brunch food there are way better places. Our server chelsea was super sweet. We loved her but some of the other staff was a little snarky. read more

Service was horrible!!!! The waitress was too busy taking shots which according to the MANAGER is a "privilege" for them? She not only got our order wrong, but then didn't bring our correct order for 45 minutes after we received our food. Maybe she shouldn't be taking her privilege shots if she can't even get an order right. I don't usually leave reviews, but the management and service is worth writing a review and saving someone else from this problem. read more

Utopian Tailgate provided the worst dining experience of 2020, and that says something. I went there to celebrate my birthday with a party of six. Even though I had reserved a table over a week in advance, my party was seated at a table for four with two chairs added - that is six adults seated at what could best be described as two small coffee tables. We ordered our food and drinks as soon as we sat down in order to be mindful of the two hour limit, and even though we did that the food took an hour and a half to arrive. One of the guests in my party never got his food at all and the rest of us had to eat with the plates set in our lap since there was no room on the table. Another one of my guests never got the drink she ordered. Our server was impossible to catch (she practically never came back) and when we complained to another server all she said was "Sorry, want some shots?". Seriously, do not go to Utopian Tailgate if you can help it - it's a disaster. read more

I'm not sure why there are so many negatives reviews, I understand that you can't take your Instagram photos or play the games but we're in the middle of the pandemic, get over it . Regardless, the staff was extremely accommodating to myself and my mom. My mom is very dead set on wanting to sit outside only when we go to restaurants and when we got there it had just rained. Molly and another host (I didn't catch his name but he was Asian and had green hair) were more than happy to wipe down a table and get us comfortable. Theresa was our waitress and she was nothing but nice to us. She also checked in on us to ensure we had everything we needed. When we complimented her work ethic she was so grateful and appreciative for our words. This experience was nothing but positive which we were especially thankful for because we had made the difficult decision to put our dog down and were just trying to keep our mind off of things. The staff wasn't aware of what was going on so I feel that their attitude and hospitality was genuine and they weren't just being nice because of our circumstance. read more

Billy provided the BEST service and I am sold on this place. I will be coming back time and time again! I 100% recommend!

One of the worst experiences i had in Chicago. We had a reservation but got about 10 mins late and the bouncer didn't even let us go upstairs or talk to the host. Despite us wearing a mask he kept saying you guys need to go outside he treated us like a bunch of drunk annoying people. Called the place again and no one picked up. Not a great experience to start our summer read more

I was really excited for this place due to its Instagram worthy scene. Our waiter started out really nice, but then complained about having to go down 2 flights of stairs to get us extra sauce. Had an extra drink added to our bill which no one got - would have called but we didn't realize until days after. No heaters so it was freezing!! Food was very average and small portions for a large group. read more

Waiter was rude, appetizers were cold and not good. The chicken tenders literally came with 2 very small pieces. They also charged us for an extra drink that we did not order. Rooftop is freezing, no heaters on the patio. Would NOT recommend, overrated place. Decorations are great read more

I try to make my wife have a good Mother's Day by booking some reservations to the Utopian tailgate and May 9, 2021 with my two teenage kids it was supposed to be a surprise we drove an hour and a half away just to get there to just be denied entry at the door because my kids were not over 21 which was not specified on the website or the reservations real disappointed on their part of not specifying that. Wasting my gas and most of my day because then I had to drive around to look for a new restaurant with no reservations on Mother's Day. read more

This place was the perfect vibe for lunch and drinks! The bartenders, Ian and Brandon, were absolutely phenomenal, the food and cocktails were delicious, and they played the absolute best nostalgic throwback playlist. My friend and I had a blast and will be visiting again no doubt! read more

Patio closes at midnight, the bouncers are mean and not clear about the rules, the vibe is bad. From the moment we walked up we felt unwelcome. Of all the places in the city to go, go literally anywhere else--like 1959, the superior bar in the Second City complex. read more

Leigh was amazing. She brought us everything we wanted quickly and efficiently. Her service was above and beyond what we expected. Whenever I go back I will always ask for her as my server. I'm going to be coming back here just to see her again!!! She was so positive and welcoming to a place I had never visited before. 10/10 would recommend this place. Also the cheese curds made me so happy:) Can't wait to go back to this place. I love the rooftop vibes with a beautiful view of the city. read more

Great service, Alex was awesome, highly recommend this place!!!

This place is so fun and lively! Always a good time. Alex and Tina were amazing serves. Tina was so fast and caring! She's got awesome people skills. John the manager was so nice and checked in and fit the vibe. Definitely coming back and telling people to come! Ask for Tina and John! read more

Service, food and drinks were amazing. Tina our server was bomb!! Definitely come back!

The bartenders, Billy and Johanna, were awesome! We got there early so it wasn't very busy yet. But that was okay. We had some great laughs with them for a while before the rest of our Krew showed up. Oh, and obviously the views are awesome. I can't wait to hit this place in summertime. read more

Roman iss the best bartender! So polite and fun!! Definitely looking forward to coming back to this fun spot during the summer.

Great place with great service.. spoke with the GM Gabe personally and he's very personable and polite, not to mention our server Roman is beyond the best, positive spirited server in the world. Let's throw Adam in there as well he's phenomenal! Great place to go for diverse positive energy. Well recommended for anyone try to have a good time in Chicago! Yes I am a Chicago native. read more

Roman is the best bar tender... great service and attention to detail. He also has a heavy pour

Billy and Marco literally made my night. They were personable, kind, and made me smile! Amazing drinks and amazing service. They deserve promotions!!! Love them forever. Billy should definitely be a bartender - he made me an amazing shot - so so good. love love love him. read more

LEX WAS A COMPLETE SWEETHEART. I would come back just to have her be my waitress. She's amazing and super attentive. She always made sure we were okay. She made my birthday dinner a freaking blast. YOU HAVE AN AMAZING EMPLOYEE!!! read more

The service was bad. Our hostess came to our table maybe three times during our two hour duration. Food and drinks weren't that good. The place is overrated. read more

Not only do they have an amazing rooftop and view but the bartenders and staff go above and beyond to make it the best experience. The menu is perfect for having a small bite, sharing with friends or having dinner. Can't wait to come back and enjoy the fall weather and football read more

We never actually got a server. They were all standing in a circle around the hostess stand, and even when we asked, only came by once for drinks. The view is nice, but it isn't worth it for the tiny expensive drinks that were mostly ice. Would recommend going to any of the other bars in Old Town read more

Atmosphere, food and drinks were fine. Unfortunately, it took us 45 minutes to get a drink upon arrival. Our waitress was rude, never apologized for the terrible service and visited our table 2 times. We arrived at 1:06 and it is currently 3:00 pm and we only got one single drink. The waitress told us not to order a drink because it would take so long? It was actually impossible to get a drink. If you're unable to keep up with the moderate amount of drink orders, make the policy BYOB. Actually ridiculous. Would never go back. read more

If i can give this place 10+ stars i would! Such a great vibe staff is awesome especially ROMAN! Every time my boyfriend and I visit this establishment he makes sure that we receive top tier customer service! We love this place! read more

I'm not a big reviewer, But for someone in the service industry I feel like I had to. This rooftop was recommended to us by a friend, I travel the country for work and always in a new setting, but Chicago is home. Social distancing is definitely in effect, everyone seemed to be following protocol and the food was good (Except the "walking taco") My problem here were the drink orders. I asked for a whiskey sour, plain jane. Im expecting well whisky, Instead I was charged for a Jack Daniels and was charged an extra 2 dollars for sour, Twice. Ok thats understandable, Maybe I was misheard. But Then I ordered 4 TEQUILA shots, and this is all before I received the bill. For the whiskey shots I was charged 4 Don Julios. Me personally am not a Don Julio person, I would have been fine with Hornitos or Sauza. I feel like since they are at limited capacity they are willing to up-charge drinks without telling anyone in order to make some money, Which I believe is not good for customers. Food great, Practices are BAD. View is great, Food good, Just feel like someone needs to get the drink situations in check. Thanks if you read read more
