We use Utility Telecom for our business and just found out that our account auto renews yearly. I have three locations and two of them automatically renewed during the summer. My buyout for two locations is $6,000 10 phones and have been with Utility for about 4-6 years. If you have service with Utility Telecom make sure your account does not include auto renew. They are not willing to work with me on these two locations. I was looking to switch as my website needs a chat feature and the new provider offers web chat and language features. Before this everything with service has been wonderful. Call Utility and have them remove your auto renew. read more

These people are good, they will tell you how cheap their service is. And then come back and charge you a USF that's 50% of the monthly and said When you buy things, and you don't expect taxes? Really? They knew there is such a thing called Federal Universal Service Fund and they won't tell you because this Fund is counted as Fees and Taxes. More further, according to CPUC.ca.gov website. Company can choose wether they want to pass down this cost to the customer. Our previous company Spectrum charged us less than $13 each month, Utility charged $580 each month. You do the math. I let Emily Andrews in our Chamber of Commerce meeting. She represents Utility Telecom. We own a fingerprinting background stores in NV. We wanted to go to a dedicated T1 line for securtiy of our transmission even and bough DSL worked really well for us the prior 10 year we used it. We only use 1 office PC and 2 Livescan PC to send 30 records a day. These are small records that shouldn't take up but a fraction of 1% of the bandwidth of a dedicated T1 line. Our internet service is brutally slow! We are told we are using at peak times. How can a dedicated T1 line be a shared line that's subject to volume? They want us to more than the $500 per line per store to get faster internet!! We send a few emails and 30 small records a day. We have been chasing down someone to talk too but have gotten no where. I just did an ISP Check of our internet connection we are well below the average USA connection!! WTF? We have a T1 line we should be flying! This company is a fraud they are not what they say they are! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY EVER! I'd bet the good yelp reviews are friends of people who work here. Horrible! read more

We've had Utility Telecom ISP services for years now. We've gone from bonded T1s to a 100mbps fiber line (installed by AT&T). We also have use their managed router service, and they handle our BGP config as well. Recently, we also migrated telephone DIDs from AT&T copper PRI circuits to Utility Telecom SIP trunks. There was some troubleshooting required to get the trunks working, as our phone system (Shoretel) did not list Utility as a certified partner. But Utility was happy to work with our Shoretel maintenance provider to get the issues worked out, and it has been working flawlessly since. Internet service has been dependable. We've not had any outages since moving to fiber. We had some outages when we were on T1s, but that was AT&T's issue, not Utility. Prices are good. Thier prices are competitive for ISP services, and their SIP prices were better than any other quotes we got. Billing is simple and easy to understand. The people are nice. There are people to talk to, and not just in a call center. You can actually talk to the same person if you call more than once. They have always been willing to work with me to configure solutions that meet our needs. read more

A WARNING TO THE WISE: DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE!!! THEY ARE UNPROFESSIONAL, IMPERSONAL AND UNCARING - NOTHING LIKE THE LOCAL COMPANY WE THOUGHT WE WOULD BE WORKING WITH. Least professional company I've EVER dealt with. Our company's phone and internet contract was purchased mid-term by Utility Telecom and, while they've been happy to continue collecting our payment, they have essentially refused to honor every other condition in our original contract and, in fact, attempted to lengthen the original term without warning when we contacted them to find out about our end-of-term options. When we contacted them about erroneous charges that have been made during the term of the contract, they then opted to claim that the original charges and conditions were not their responsibility and made no offer to help correct or refund the overpayment(s). When we provided them with notice of our intent to cancel, we received a phone call from Michael Q - literally YELLING at our CFO and threatening our company, making defaming comments about our company owner (who is retired) because he 'knows' him from past jobs he's had in our industry - nothing to do with the issue(s) at hand or our cancellation requirements, which was the purpose of the call. When trying to contact Michael's supervisor, nobody responded by phone or email and we continued to receive threatening and antagonistic emails and phone calls from Michael - an interesting way to do business! As of today, they have disrupted our phone service with no notice and full knowledge that we will not have access to our phone number until tomorrow - essentially shutting our business down for the next 24 hours. We would NEVER treat a customer this way and I am disgusted by this company's actions. 6/26/2018 - Elisha's response below indicating that this matter has escalated to 'the court system' is news to me - confidence is not applicable here and I will continue to publicly report this company's unprofessional and spiteful conduct at every turn. I used these people for 5 years. I had 2 T1s with them. In Jan of 2018 I went to a VOIP system that saved me thousands of dollars. After having these T1s being unused for 18 months (literally not 1 call made over these T1s in 18 months) I tried to cancel the T1s. After being told I had a 0 balance on the account they hit me with a 4K cancellation fee. When I tried to reason Witt them they sent me to an outside collections firm. Totally classless and after all the tens of thousands of dollars I did with them over a 5 year span they chose to pull this crap. I do not recommend these people to ANYONE. They will screw you even if your a loyal customer for over 5 years. They'll be out of business soon operating like this. Good riddance. read more

I was really surprised to see the previous negative reviews for Utility Telephone. We are a small local business in Northern California and have been Utility customers since about 2013. We have had service with some of the big players like AT&T, Charter & Toshiba Hosted services. Prior to having Utility Telephone we had inconsistent bills, especially with AT&T even during contract periods where our bill seemed to have added charges for no apparent reason. It was IMPOSSIBLE trying to get it resolved when calling in and half the time you weren't speaking to someone in the same time zone. With Toshiba hosted services we would lose days of service due to network issues. When you're a small business this just isn't acceptable. So here's why Utility is great. 1 - We have a local rep who actually responds to calls/emails and even checks in on occasion to see how things are going. Not to sell us something but literally to say hi and see how everyone is doing. 2 - If and when we had an issue, you call in to the customer support line and speak to a live person right off the bat, no press 1 for this department or 6 for English annoyance. 3 - Our bill fluctuates by a penny here and there (due to the days in the month) 4 - Prices were UNBEATABLE! 5 - We have the newest equipment without hidden equipment lease fees. 6 - Call clarity is amazing. Extremely clear. 7 - They work well with your IT department. No blame game when something doesn't work. All in all, you can't go wrong. read more

The company that I work for had to switch long distance carriers earlier this year as the carrier that we were using, TCast Communications filed chapter 11 bankruptcy and went out of business without warning. Unfortunately the company that we switched to, Utility Telephone, in Stockton CA, has been a real disappointment. At one point in early March we went without service to half of our office(24 telephones) for several hours a day for over two weeks straight. We were on the telephone with the repair and customer service people at Utility Telephone several times a day every day for about 2 1/2 weeks straight. I have been in this industry since 1985 and have never experienced anything like it. Day after day of the exact same problem. The telephones work and then all of a sudden, no dial tone for hours at a time. This went on for two and a half weeks! It is very hard to run the type of business we have without telephone service. Needless to say this cost us a lot of business! Eventually the problem was cleared up. On April 22nd my boss called Utility Telephones' customer service department and stated that he felt that some sort of credit was in order considering the fact that we pay them over $2000.00 per month and our service wasn't working properly for such a length of time. The lady that he spoke with suggested that he send them an email detailing his request which he did on April 22, 2014. After waiting about a month and not getting a response he called the customer service department and talked to a lady who stated that she did indeed see his email but that nothing had been done. She stated that she would send it to someone who would handle it but she had no explanation/excuse as to why nothing had been done in a month! After a couple more weeks with yet again no response my boss called and spoke with someone further up the chain of command. This person said that they were waiting for a decision to be made by someone in authority. After again getting no response my boss again called the same manager type person he had spoken with who told him that the general manager types were, "working on it", and expected to have an answer soon. The next day, on June 11, 2014 my boss got a call from a person in customer service, way down the line from General Manager and in fact in lower authority than the last person he had spoken with. This person was just giving him a call to let him know that his request for a credit had been denied. There was no reason given as to why the credit request was denied. There was no reason given as to why Utility Telephone ignored his initial request and then took a month to deny it. What's puzzling is not so much the fact that the request credit was denied. I guess if they feel like saving fifty bucks is worth losing a $2000.00 a month customer then they're just idiots. What's hard to understand is why they are so disrespectful. We are their customer. We give them a fair amount of money monthly. Why wouldn't you be polite to someone who gives you money??? Very hard to understand. If you're looking for a telephone company please do yourself and your company a favor and look elsewhere. Utility Telephone combines poor telephone service with poor customer service. Either one of those alone is bad. Together they are unacceptable. read more

Besides that, their system is very easy to use and navigate. They also sent someone to train everyone on new phone systems and were very helpful in the set-up process. Unfortunately, our account was passed over to Utility Telecom after our previous provider Black Cloud sold to Utility Telecom. I reached out to them to discuss our contract & see if there was something they could do to bring our cost down. I spoke with Mike Quedens and he said he was sure there was something he could do & mentioned maybe extending the contract a year but lowering our cost overall. Mike was going to look at our contract & get back to me. Never heard from him until I sent a cancellation notice months later. He called & made ridiculous threats of how Utility Telecom owned our # & then wrapped up the conversation with a slam on the retired owner of our company. We continued moving forward with switching our provider and the day before we were to go live with our new provider- Utility Telecom cancelled us for not paying our early termination fee within 5 days. For all of about 15 minutes- we had no phones. Fortunately our new provider handled the situation rapidly & with no effect on our business. Utility Telecom is unprofessional & I would think twice before entering into a contract with them. The only plus point- is with all their false threats & heavy handling- they force you to get pretty familiar with the PUC and learn your rights. 6/26/18- It's unfortunate that I couldn't get a response to my multiple documented emails & phone calls with my dissatisfaction as quickly as Elisha has responded below. We love this service. We are a non-profit service provider that doesn't have a brick and mortar home. This service give us the option to have all our phone calls forwarded to our email account. They do it in a timely manner and never seem to have a problem with interpretation. We hear the message as it was recorded within minutes of the call. We have used Utility Telecom for a number of years, they provide Internet and Phone service to our 11 branch offices. They have provided great tech support, very good communications, fast replies to question, they have a good ticketing system to track issues and they have very very good tech support and followup. We have been using their hosted cloud based phone system and our users love it. Just this week we needed to add two more phones (one each to different offices) and the support to get these online was great. These people are HORRIBLE! The sales team will lie to get you LOCKED into a contract and when you want to end the service and ask for a termination date they continually give you a different date, not to mention threatening you with sending you to collections when you've told them that you want a CORRECT payoff amount. WOW! DO NOT sign a contract with these people!! The service is spotty and they have NO clue how to route phones the correct way. Our phones have been messed up since the beginning and we've lost ENTIRE days of business calls because of their Incompetence! It's been a 37 month DISASTER with this company and the reason that it's 37-months is because 'we gave you a free month on the front of your contract and now your contract is longer' so hmmm, let me figure this out....it WASN'T a 'free month' since you just tacked it onto the contract at the end to get the money! Then to have the sales mgr call me and tell me that he'll let me out of the contract by a week & 1/2 and won't have this end on bad terms only to then turn around in the same breath and threaten me with collections. Not sure why such bad ratings. We have been using Utility for about 4 years, they got us on 3 lines of T1 high speed internet and phone service for a fraction of what Charter and AT&T wanted. The other companies wanted to charge us to lay the cables for the entire area, Utility came in set us up and are very reasonable. Customer service is excellent, I can call and get to a real person, they answer emails promptly. I have recommended them to other small business's and two have gone to Utility and are just as happy as we are. read more

I am very surprised to see the bad reviews on yelp for Utility Telecom. This company is saving us almost $200.00 a month on our business phone bill. The customer service is so great, you'll wonder why you didn't leave AT&T in the dirt sooner. We had an issue calling a certain ph # and they not only responded to our trouble ticket in less than 4 minutes but they worked hard to solve the issue even though it was not caused by them. While the price for T-1 is reasonable for a rural location, the reliability is not great, maybe even terrible. The entire circuit has gone down frequently (more than 10 times per year). It's not entirely their fault as they are reselling AT&T services. Their support people are quite helpful and do follow through, most of the time. However, in August 2018 we had no service at all for more than a month. The SLA was not honored. The response to a request for credit for no service for a month was dismissed without due concern. If there was another alternative, I'd have switched long ago. read more

Our mental health clinic in So. California had used UTILITY prior to my coming aboard. I had asked AT&T to "port" over our message line which UTILITY had had prior. AT&T managed to mess up so terribly badly, dropping over 300 client referrals in a few months time , charged me and NEVER getting my message line hooked up properly. After much frustration, UTILITY very kindly offered a solution. They had their tech guy figure out what had gone wrong, free of charge! It turned out that UTILITY had discovered that the "toggle line system" was not hooked up correctly, causing the line to not be accessible to general users, the kind that use our services! I am greatly appreciative to UTILITY for their care and assistance in a very difficult and frustrating time. They are great to say the least. I signed up with Utility Telecom in December of 2015. I am with a small business located in Northridge, CA (Los Angeles County). From the start I was sold an inferior product. They were delayed for a week to get phone lines to service my area. It turned out they had to piggy back onto Frontier's lines to service Utility's phone lines. The phone calls would constantly cut in and out, and sometimes I would have people tell me that they called and it would just ring and ring. Who KNOWS how many customer calls I may have missed because of this. Not only did I have horrible quality phone calls, I had the slowest internet! I could not have two email tabs open at once! I called and asked WHY this was happening in my area, and the tech just said to me that I was probably in a small community. He said most people using their company were in smaller communities....I AM IN LOS ANGELES COUNTY. Finally, after almost a year and a half I got SO fed up with the slow internet and constant cutting out of calls, I called Frontier, cut out the middle man. THEN I get a bill from Utility for $4000 for early termination fee. I spoke with Patricia (handles early terminations fees) to try to reason with them about this fee, and she was the RUDEST person I have ever talked to. I suppose it is her job to be that way, but it just made me so grateful that I was no longer with Utility. Do yourself a favor and stay AWAY from this company. Utility Telecom isn't able to handle accounts professionally and have an inferior product. read more
