I am a property owner and recently had a very frustrating experience with the Oak Hall Post Office related to a mailbox lock change. After a long-term tenant moved out of my legal two-unit duplex, I went to this location, paid the required $40 fee, completed the form as instructed, and provided proof of ownership. I was clear that I did not know the mailbox number because I have never lived at the property, and I was told this was not a problem and that staff would identify the correct mailbox. Unfortunately, USPS changed the wrong mailbox, preventing a long-term tenant in the other unit from accessing mail. I returned the incorrect keys immediately the same day the error was discovered. Despite this being a USPS mistake, I made multiple weekly visits over several weeks and received conflicting information each time, including being told at one point that the locksmith had never even been notified. Most concerning, I was later told I would need to pay an additional $40 fee to correct an error that was not mine. During my most recent visit, I was also told--incorrectly--that the mailbox keys had already been given to the owner (I am the owner and had not received them), and the interaction escalated unnecessarily instead of being calmly resolved. As a result, two households were without mail for weeks, which is unacceptable, especially during the holiday season. This situation reflects serious breakdowns in communication, accountability, and customer service. Columbia, MD post office is the worst I have ever encountered. Rude, snarky personnel who repeatedly seem to specialize in making things difficult. The latest occurred today when I asked if my postage paid labeled package that didn't fit the depository could be placed in the mail cart as they instruct us to do, and they refused to let me drop it in because they had closed the gate to the counter minutes EARLY before closing time, This sort of "I am in charge and I can ignore you or diminish you" attitude is displayed to me or to others I observe EVERY SINGLE TIME I go to this location. In contrast, another location nearby goes out of the way to help, answer questions, even call back about a lost package after hours. That these inept, condescending people in the Columbia PO keep their jobs is an absolute travesty and explains why USPS has such a low approval rating. If they worked for me, I would fire them without any hesitation. I would give them zero stars if I could. Do better. read more

The USPS Consumer and Industry Affairs Office is the point of contact for looking in to making the necessity of going to the post office not as unpleasant as the one at Oak Hall Lane in Columbia, MD. Don't go here. The Ellicott City Post Office isn't far. This morning, May 14, 2025, the staff of two were just simmering with resentment and sure didn't try to hide it. this place is kind of shitty but 6/10 times you'll get what you need done, the employees are lazy and rude but at least the self service kiosks are more friendly. Was with family getting our passports and the lady at the passport office was putting up an attitude cause we didn't have an application that was "sent through email" or something ridiculous. we were never sent an email. she lets us fill out the application before the appointment and she goes off to whoever knows where and tells us to let the front desk know when we finish the application. we finish and we go over to front desk and do exactly that.. the ghetto lady says "ok well what do you want me to do?" ..i go "i dont know, the lady at the office told us to let you know when we were finished." .. she responds with.. "well its a big building im not gonna go running around looking for her. the hell i look like running around." we simply just left and sat down in the waiting area cause of how ridiculous and rude she was. fast forward the lady did show up and we finished our appointment, we come out and what do ya know? the lady was getting yelled at by someone who did not come to play about her manners , im talking full blown cussing and yelling ! read more

I have been coming here more regularly now that I have am working remotely. It is never super busy and the associates are friendly and fast. It is comparably bigger than at the other locations that I've been to. This location has packaging products, gift and greeting cards, self-service kiosks, passport photos, and parcel lockers. Two years ago when I traveled to Europe for the first time, I had my passport photo taken here after scheduling an appointment. I have always had a good experience at this location and highly recommend. read more

I love this USPS location. There are two (2) kiosks located within this Post Office that operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It is convenient to me, and we'll worth the drive. read more

My husband's mail is frequently returned to the sender. Important pieces of mail are never delivered

The lobby and the self-service kiosk are always open. However, the drop box is usually full and after purchasing the label, there is NO way to drop the package off and you need to return during business hours. I've complained so many times. They always have employees on premises but they refuse to clear the box. Just horrible service from our government!!!! read more

wow I just saw how many 2 start reviews this place received and I am NOT surprised, I just had THE WORST experience here. I called because I needed to pick up a package since they didn't deliver it because I wasn't home (I divide my time between 2 different cities so I'm not always at that home but we have a package system where you're supposed to leave packages which I've never had a problem with before) anyways my package was for vacation on Friday, it was really important to me that I got it, today was the only day to get it since they're closed tomorrow so after work I called to see if there was any way I could get my package because my boyfriend and I swapped cars earlier and my wallet with ID was in my car in VA and I wouldn't have time to meet him and get there before close but I could have him send me a picture of the ID. THE LADY ON THE PHONE SAID IF I BROUGHT THE PICTURE AND A PROOF OF RESIDENCY (piece of mail bill etc) IT WOULD BE FINE. I mean why on earth would a drive a hour in thanksgiving eve traffic to get there to pick it up if I was told otherwise? The 2 lady's inside were BEYOND rude and short I could barely get a word out before they were basically telling me to f*** off, I told them both I called and wouldn't have came all that way if I was told I needed my hard copy ID, they couldn't care less. I was lied to and treated terribly as if I did something wrong, LOOO I've never experienced such unprofessionalism and piss poor hospitality. I had the picture of both sides of my ID, my whole birth certificate, and 2 forms of proof of residency and a W-2...that's enough information to get a whole new ID at the MVA.....literally...but they wouldn't even listen to anything I said I was just dismissed. In less than one year, I did not receive a package which sender shown a correct address. When I called the post office, and management could not even tell me a complete address. She just said the package had the address wrong. The other case, I forwarded a first class mail with correct address. I took it to the post office and gave it to the person at the counter directly. That piece mail was never received. Things seem to be vanish in the air in last few years. Not to mention other people's medicine also delivered wrong too. read more
