Hard to rate a MVA. You expect long lines and long waits. It's one of those services you hate to do but are a necessity. I needed to get a replacement month sticker for one of my vehicles. The old one was over 10 years old and started to deteriorate unlike the year sticker that you get every one to two years in Maryland. Came in on a Monday morning. This location is in a little shopping center. There was ample parking: the office itself is small. They have 12 windows but on this day they only had 8 open. It was the day after a holiday so many people probably have vacation. The line moved pretty quickly. They didn't have a lot of seating. Luckily they have self service kiosks that I was able to use to get my sticker. Wasn't too long of a process, I was in and out within about a hour so not that bad to me. I'm giving this location 5 stars! I had to recently change my License over to MD along with taking my daughter to get her permit. The professionalism and efficiency was mind blowing. Honestly I've never been to a DMV this efficient. I received constant text reminding me my number in line how long the wait time was etc. I expected to be there Atleast half a day like back home but this was not the case. I visited the Columbia branch of the MDOT MVA on the 21st of August to renew my license. The customer service was top tier! The personnel were especially warm, welcoming, and efficient. Since my appointment was after 2:00 p.m. that Wednesday, expedited shipping made the order set to arrive on Friday, the 23rd. I attempted to track the status online many times. When it still read, "Product tracking status is not available at this time" on Tuesday, the 27th, I called to see if anything could be done. The person who answered submitted a ticket, which was quite helpful. A label was created an hour later, and the license arrived the following day. I am grateful to now have the renewal in my possession; however, I missed a couple important deadlines. This was due to the tardiness of its arrival, which I paid to avoid. It is my hope this issue will be resolved so that others do not also experience such a setback moving forward. read more

Because its an express MVA office, it does not have many of the features as a typical MVA office. You cannot take your driver's test here and many other things. But because of the limited service there, it makes things really fast pace. I received my learner's permit from here, and there was very small wait time. Service was fast and efficient and took less than an hour for me to go in and out. . read more

I came here to change my driver's license to a Maryland one. (For anyone else moving in from out of state, Maryland's DMVs are called MVAs.) I booked an appointment online and checked in via the link they texted me right after I parked. There is a board with everyone's assigned numbers and appointment times. It also calls out the number of the next customer. The system that allowed everyone to checkin on our phones helped the line move faster since we didn't have to wait for a different person to check us in for our appointments. The employees here were quick and friendly. I was shocked at how much faster my trip to this location was compared to DMVs I've been to in the past! I plan to return here to change my vehicle plates to Maryland ones. read more

I arrived at 8:45, fifteen minutes after they opened. It was not clear to me what the set up is at this location. Apparently, you get in the information line to the right to get a queue number. I came in today to get the Real ID. Unfortunately I did not bring all the necessary documents as I misread the email I received. I was supposed to bring a credit card or utility statement, but I thought a credit card itself was acceptable. When it was my turn to get a number I was informed that I would need to provide an additional form of ID, in this case a credit card or utility statement would sufficed. Fortunately they have a kiosk that enables you to print required documents. That saved me from making a trip home. Of course, nothing ever comes easy for me. When I went to download my credit card statement it saved to the C drive which I assumed was the computer's hard drive, but when I asked the employees they were completely clueless what I was trying to ask them. I told them I couldn't print the home page of my credit card because it didn't list my contact info and that's why I needed access to the actual statement which was downloaded to the C drive. Long story short, I had to look for another form of documentation so I tried logging onto my different utility providers' websites. I finally found one and was successful printing the statement, 30 minutes later....ugh. It would have been helpful if they had someone technical working that could provide technical support for the kiosk. From what I experienced, the employees have just basic knowledge of what can be done at the kiosk. One of the employees who was helping me at the kiosk was friendly and she gave me a queue number, B54. I was mortified because when I sat down I think it was B20 or so before me. They have tv monitors and an automated ticket alert. It took about an hour before my number was called. Be sure to bring a book, knitting yarn and thread, music and headphones, or a charged phone to entertain yourself. You'll be there awhile. I was informed that you can schedule an appt online but when I tried to click on it on my cell it was not operable to make an appt. The lady helping me when my number was called was very friendly and patient. I asked several questions about my new driver's license. I didn't realize based on the email that the "ID" was essentially a new driver's license. Also, the photo on the new license will be printed in black and white. Thank goodness because I came sans makeup. Yikes! The new ID cost $20 and will be mailed. The staff here are friendly and helpful but not very technical if you experience problems with the kiosk. The wait time was undesirable, so I guess calling this location "express" was a bit ironic. read more

THE FASTEST MVA EXPRESS EVER!!!! About 10 seconds. No joke. I know!!!!!!!! G.O.A.T. Y'all are lucky if you're in this area. I was w/family nearby so timing was fan-freakin'-tastic. We had to return the tags so that in itself was easy peasy. Right when we made our entrance the super-hero-efficient lady saw my tags, typed the letters/numbers onto her device, asked one question, then printed the receipt from her waist (she's not a machine but that mini-printer attached to her was). I'm here months early for a license renewal. The wait for the information counter where you get a ticket number was about ten minutes. The place is packed. At the counter they told me my wait would be about two hours. I waited 75 minutes to be served from the time the ticket was handed to me. An announcement informed us that for the next 12-18 months long lines are expected due to the new Federal compliance regulations. I'm surprised the employees can keep a positive attitude given the line length. They all seem to know their jobs well. They are open late Thursdays. Yelp didn't display this. They have outdoor and indoor kiosks. You can do some things with them. There's a terminal near the restrooms where you can pay for a citation, saw no line. They have a MD State Trooper assigned here and have as long as I can recall. Even the silent monitors display interesting news, weather, missing persons alerts and such. Given it's a government agency the experience is better than anticipated. read more

Wow!!! I was simply amazed by the efficiency and professionalism of the staff at the MVA express in Columbia. When you walk in, there is an attendant that inquires about the reason for your visit and then directs you to the area of the MVA that can further assist. What was awesome about her was the fact that she prepped every person by making sure they were in possession of the pertinent documents before sending them on to the next station. I was in and out In less than 10 minutes!!! Simply amazing. There are a couple of self service kiosks at this location and it also has a 24/7 kiosk on the outside so you do not even have to go inside! What's not to love? read more

This is my 2nd visit to this MVA. The first time, I spent less than 2h renewing driver license. This last time my visit was 15m. This is a full service location but they do not see heavy traffic as some o the other larger and or stand-alone locations. The customer service is good. Will visit again. read more

I actually had a good experience at the MVA for once!? I was really pleasantly surprised with my experience at this location this week to get a new license since I got married recently and changed my name. I noticed that the staff were all pleasant and very helpful. The check in process is pretty speedy and there's even a self check in area. As I hunkered down with my headphones ready to wait "the usual forever" at the MVA, I was shocked to already be called up after only ten minutes of waiting even though the place was PACKED. The staff members I worked with answered all my questions completely and I am confident that I will get exactly what I need in the mail (I've been to locations where the staff barely listened and just pushed us out of there). I gave 4 instead of 5 stars because the location could be cleaner but it wasn't terribly dirty. Tips: This location has weirdly varied hours- make sure you double check the schedule before heading there. Most forms and requests can also be completed on their website to avoid coming in person. read more

I recently had an unfortunate automobile accident and GEICO Insurance Company informed me that my car was totalled. I walked in this location with the tags, and was seated. Five minutes later, I was at a desk with my tags in hand. The MVA employee retrieved the tags, and gave me a receipt. My experience at this MVA was faster than fast food drive-thru. I had a pretty good experience here! In and out in less than 20 minutes. :D DO MAKE SURE you go the the little machine to get a ticket so that you can be put on the waitlist. I was a little confused by the forms, but since I was just here for a license renewal, I just had to go to the machine, hit the "renewal" option on the touchscreen, pick up my ticket and number, and take my seat. The attendant who helped me was not 100% attentive, but she was nice enough and got me my license. :) I'm just so happy that most painless part of my day was getting my license renewed. Not sure how you can't love this place. I lost my wallet, had to get a replacement DL, now anyone who has been through this knows how frustrating this can be! Grrrrrrrr! Needless to say I was in and out in less than 30 minutes! For me, not having to deal with the crowds, lines, and personalities at the regular DMV is a winner! Easy to locate off of Snowden, in a small strip mall, there are signs everywhere! They have a small vestibule, that I believe stays open much longer than the actual DMV express. Oh yea, don't forget to pull a ticket, this place moves fast for whatever it is you need to have done. the computer shut down many times, I had to fill out the form for the appointment many times, in the end my work was not solved. However, the MVA manager's attitude is very disdainful for passengers, even though it's not yet time to close the MVA, he seems to be looking forward to going home, and has a very discriminatory attitude towards Asians. First time I can say I didn't have an awful experience at the mva. I went to turn in old tags and I was in and out in less than 20 minutes. Definitely a change for me, im used to bringing a book i want to finish and getting to finish it lol. I love that this express location stream lines the mva experience but it doesnt change the inheremt problems of the mva. The place was super crowded and finding a place to sit was like musical chairs as soon as someone got up another person jumped for the seat. Aside from space issues the guy who helped me was standoffish. I used to work in restaurants so i understand dealing with people 8 hours straight you can't be annoyed with me because I came in to use your services. This guy probably said 2 words to me when i sat down i had to ask him was i finished because he was silent and i wasnt sure if he needed anything else. I was on the fence of how to rate this place. Who can really rate a DMV a 5 star? It would have to be a tremendous experience. Anyway, I scheduled an appt. for this location to get my Registration/Title yesterday and license another day in the future as I was unable to schedule both on the same day. The website states you need to make an appt. which isn't true. You can walk in. I was able to get my Drivers License and Registration done yesterday, which was great. As soon as I got in my number was called and I had a license in no time. The confusion ensued when I needed to register my car. I needed to run out to my car to grab my current registration which maybe took 90 seconds. My number was called in this amount of time, and if it wasn't for a nice customer next to me, I wouldn't have known. At the end of the day, there was some confusion at the DMV and I sat around for an hour waiting to get my car registered. Not a bad DMV experience, but not ideal either. read more

A big shout out to Columbia's MVA - today was quick and painless. Waited a wee bit on the phone to make my appointment, but the representative was super friendly. Arrived 30 minutes prior to my scheduled appointment and was allowed in early. Answered COVID questions, prior - utilized the hand sanitation station and walked over to my right, once inside. Met with two very nice employees, took my eye test (approximately six chairs in the waiting area, spaced apart) and sat down, for maybe ten minutes, until my number was called. Another very friendly employee asked me some questions; I responded on the touch computer screen, got my photo taken, paid my money and I was off! Easy peasy. read more

I came to this Columbia location on a Wednesday so that I can avoid the crowd at Reisterstown Road location. Well it didn't matter because you would have thought it was the 1st of the month and this was the government cheese line. They were SUPER crowded. Waited over 2 hours just to renew my license. People at the information desk, not friendly. It was as if I was bothering them to come here. Never again. My search continues for a decent MVA. read more

I transported 3 young adults to this facility yesterday to take their learner's permit test. I chose this facility because I figured it would be safer as opposed to the one on Reisterstown Ave in Baltimore. To say that this place is unorganized is an understatement. The state trooper just sat in the window facing out looking incredibly bored with his job. What exactly is he getting paid to do if he just sits scowling at people as they walk by? The check-in staff could care less about their job. One was a white older lady and the other was a black lady with a curly wig on. I came in to ask them for their supervisor's information and they pretended not to know who it was. They ended up writing "Sherry" on a piece of paper. The person overseeing the test takers screwed up the payment for 2 of the people taking the test. Cancelled their appointment in the system while they were waiting to test. The remaining test taker was given someone else's paper with their personal information, and their own personal information had to be retrieved from another oblivious test taker. I can't think of any other word than to say their whole experience was ghetto. I'll take them to Westminster to take their driving tests. I wish I had gone there instead, but they didn't want to travel that far. Work ethic is suffering nowadays. But this seems to be a trend in MD as I've come to know. read more
