On April 27th of this year (2026), I bought some ICY HOT BALM from Amazon.. or so I thought.. There is a history on Amazon of my package's journey from this facility, back to another (unnamed) USPS facility, to a location in Oak Park. Back and forth and back and forth. Now, there is no more history. I am assuming my package has been lost. So, the other day, I called Amazon. Big mistake. The Amazon "customer service" representative put me on a 3-way call with a USPO representative. He could NOT have cared less. He said my package had gone "loopy," or that's what I thought he said. Please. This place needs to be shut down. Or, the top people at the USPO just don't care at all that poor customer service is the norm with them. . Lord help us. I guess I shouldn't expect much of the post office these days, but my God, at the end of the day, if you don't want to deal with customers, DO NOT WORK IN A CUSTOMER FACING JOB. I stopped at this location the other day while I was out because I needed to buy stamps. I was hoping to get some that are "limited edition," and they conveniently have metal signs at each desk with stamp magnets showing which ones are in stock. When I got to the desk I made niceties with the clerk, who obviously didn't want to hear it, and when I told her which stamps I was looking to buy, she said they didn't have any. I asked politely why it was shown on the metal sign at the desks, and she TURNED THE SIGN AROUND to face away from me and again said that they didn't have it. WOW. Get some customer service training or just stop working with customers, because this sort of attitude is just childish and unprofessional. read more

She is always trying to get me to purchase items that I don't need to and never have issues with at other post offices. Today after telling me I couldn't use the bag, I asked if I could have the label to put on a bag I have at home (unsure if QR code can be scanned twice) and she said "no. This location has been sitting on my package instead of delivery it. It's literally been there all week. They have one job - deliver packages. But they don't deliver packages they sit at their location and no updates on tracking info. Pure laziness. This is by far the worst post office I have ever visited. The staff is rude and unprofessional. They desperately need proper training. If you can, avoid this location like the plague. Stop stealing packages. I now have had two packages "go missing" from this location. One was a 5oz bar of silver a few years ago, which usps wouldn't insure, so I was out $150. Recently it was a sleep study watch and a salvia sample for medical research. Both never left the building, tracking stayed stagnant at the facility. read more

It is a terrible post office, has deteriorated badly in the past fifteen or more years. No one EVER answers the phone, the people at the counter are as slow as can be, standing around taking to each other WHILE customers are lined up for service. They have lost our mail, and many many complaints in our neighborhood forum about how many others have had mail delivered to incorrect addresses, and try to file a claim for 'lost mail' and the main site doesn't even work!! This should be a highly rated and functional suburban location, but, they are hiring lazy people to fulfill the racial quotas, rather than competent people who care to work! read more

I spent $63 on 18 fertile, shipped gamebird eggs. When I went to retrieve them at the USPS Distribution Center in Carol Stream, clear disregard was shown for our package: before giving it to us, the postal worker picked it up and waved it around casually as she spoke with someone. I looked on in horror and was speechless! She then looked at the box and said, "Oops, are there live birds in here?!" Thankfully there weren't LIVE birds, but of the 18 shipped eggs, only 2 have hatched (whereas our own eggs, put into the same incubator at the same time, have hatched). It just shows how workers do not pay attention to the parcels, content labels, etc. Complete disregard was shown to the contents of our package, and right in front of my face. USPS is completely inept. If they nonchalantly waved my package of shipped eggs around right in front of me, I can only imagine how parcels are handled when patrons aren't watching. read more

All of my packages go through the Carol Stream Distribution Center before moving to the *attached* Carol Stream post office for delivery. About 20% of my packages get delayed here, from days to weeks. Some vendors only ship USPS, or I'd have everything shipped differently. The mail order pharmacy that my insurance company keeps pushing is a fine example - yeah, no. My specialty vitamins took 4 days to get from LA to CS, and 6 days to get to the post office for delivery. It's in the same building. read more

Do yourself a favor and pay a little extra and use FedEx or UPS anyway to avoid this place. I'm not sure what's going on in this place but unfortunately it's the stop before getting to my town and ever time packages have to be sorted there they either get sent back out to a different sorting center after days or weeks of sitting there with no updates. Priority standard shipping makes no difference. If I see Carol Stream on my tracking I know it will be a toss up if or when I will actually receive the item and if they played kickball with the partials. Package gets lost, nobody cares. Lombard USPS blames Carol Stream USPS, Carol Stream never responds to anything. The tracking clearly shows the package never got delivered, that it's either in Carol Stream or Lombard. When I filed a report, I got a reference number, then I got an email that said the issues is resolved and Ref # is closed, followed by a "How did we do" survey! I re-opened the claim and USPS final response was "try and get your money back from whoever you ordered the product from. There's nothing we can do". My $2,000 money order payment to my Discover card never made it into their PO box, which is right there at the Carol Stream Post Office. Supposedly it got "lost in the mail", even though I brought it directly to that post office, feeling it would be safer than sticking it in a mailbox. Upon inquiring, I found out they don't put mail into the PO boxes right away, it first needs to go through a processing center in back. Luckily, the money order was never cashed, but I had to pay $30 to get my money back from Western Union (WU sucks too!) I filed a complaint with the main post office and received no follow-up back. Last Thursday I brought my payment again to the Carol Stream Post Office and asked 'little miss attitude behind the counter' what I could do to make sure it doesn't get lost this time. She said there's really nothing, accept to send it express mail. That would be quite expensive to do every month, so I took my chances again and handed her the envelope. It's been 6 days now and the payment still hasn't been received! Trump is 100% right about privatizing the US Post Office. If it were a business with a bottom line, their workers would have the choice of either doing a good job or most likely being fired. read more

We submitted a change of address over a month ago for my in-laws who are in the 90s. Some mail is being forwarded to the new address while some is going to the old address. What will it take to get someone at this location to answer the phone? Is there any accountability at this location? I called several times and each time they hung up on me. I mailed a certified letter on 2/20, it arrived in Carol Springs, IL on the 23. I has now been there for a week and no one can find it. Since it certified I guess someone thought it had something of value and has stolen it. It was going to a business and they all know the business in the area so they know it had a possible check in it. I guess I'll spend what little money have sueing everyone in the post office. This is not the first time they mishandled distribution. It seems that they don't know the difference between Wheaton, IL & West Chicago, IL. They sent our package to the Wheaton PO when it was supposed to go to West Chicago. It had to go back to them to reroute it to the West Chicago PO which delayed the delivery. The last time they messed up, the shipper had to re-send another package via overnight delivery. I got the original shipment a day after the second shipment arrived. read more

Awful place that says their supervisors didn't show up to work. The inmates aren't running the prison, someone is in charge there... They openly admitted to me that their delivery boxes get full and things fall into wrong boxes and then when they deliver a box to a business, they just drop the box and leave - don't even check the address. They actually admitted to me that they knew where my package is delivered to, "it's weird, they usually give it back. Maybe we can ask for it back the next time we're there." They said this happens all the time and I shouldn't worry, my package is probably recoverable.
