ONE star only because (price high for what you get, did not answer phone call about 2PM on Saturday)
1) they did not answer during a Saturday in-hours call - did they go out of business? or not care to answer the phone, or the tech was sick and the boss refused to work a weekend -- or 2) they are rich enough that they don't need to care about customers.
THESE GUYS ***USED*** TO BE EXCEPTIONAL. Then the original guys sold, and t a new owner took over. Ever since then, I get ***NO*** help at all, and actually had an employee tell me a year or more ago to 'don't shop here, you can get a better deal at . . ." -- This is because I used to buy my top student(s) a computer+MS OFFICE when they graduated from college - so I wanted to send off my top students (most of whom had some kind of disability) with a "Working PERFECTLY" computer system and printer (which UCW did not sell) -- with an upgrade to the video/sound card, and faster (and larger) HD. To be the Professor I always wanted to have - and I think I was - at least in this one area. I mean - who CAN'T use a fast computer will EVERYTHING they would need to be a superior student -- I even bought a couple of comptuers for myself there - and the one I am using now has been on 24/7 running World Community Grid with the monitor off at night. But AT&T let someone in through the McAfee firewall, and now I need to have them simply re-load my System.
They seem to be closed - and maybe it's for the best.
\Having been a starving student, I didn't want to seem like their nightmare from Hell - the teacher who buys the computer that never will work right - never and for ever. After At&T talked me through the steps to a completely unworkable computer - AND made sure I DID each step to insure that nothing could be made normal again - they dropped me. So my ISP turned a perfectly good computer into a dead computer at home -- and talked me through each step PERFECTLY -- so while I was told to never go back there by one of their employees, all I wanted this time was to have them dump a NEW system onto my computer and be done with it -- something that AT&T only SAID that they'd do, but when it was time, they told me - woops, sorry! we can't do that. So - here I am without Office, without an OS that works (all I wanted my my old system XP-Pro -- to finish a doctoral paper due monday - and all notes etc are on a back-up and no other computer to run i t on! -- BUT they used to be good enough that I'd drive 100 miles one way - I've even driven over 300 miles one way ONCE to get them to fix what turned out to be simply a super-high end AV card so I could listen to classical music as I talked that had been put in loosly -- quick SNAP, then an applogoy, and the offer to replace that card (used) with a newer higher end cared (used) for free - made it worth the 600+ miles round trip that I had to do - and was VERY kind of them.
BUT THEY SEEM TO BE CLOSED ON SATURDAY ***AND*** AN EMPLOYEE TOLD ME TO NOT BUY FROM THEM -- AND A BRAND NEW, LOW END COMPTUER WITH MS-OFFICE ON IT WAS MORE THAN WORTH THE STOCK THEY HAD THEN, AND WOULD BE GETTING IN THE FUTURE. -- so for a 'new; computer go elseware - these guys used to have super techs who could fix a comptuer on the moon in gloves, suit, and all the rest -- now I have a tech who told me -- after a good 10+ years of buying several comptuers a semester for my top students tell me to 'save your money and buy a new one". BUT I still trusted them to put the same OS back onto my computer for what used to be about $50 for the public, and had been 'free' for some students who had some VERY minor work done (new, but dammagbed keyboard replaced by a top-of the line new KB, re-set (by full back-up then reload OS and put old files back where they were) comptuer for no charge at all - and now I find they aren't even open - So you draw your own judgement as to if they are or are not in busniness. USED to the THE best place to go - now, I was going only because I knew there'd be a cheap fix to my problem.
BOTTOM LINE: BECAUSE OF WHAT THE EMPLOYEE TOLD ME: NEVER EVER BUY ANYTHING FROM THESE GUYS -- they used to buy ONLY 'top of the used comptuers' pallets. Now, I was told, they buy from the bottom rung of the working 'used' comptuers - eg first guys bought the A/A- comptuers and offered a full 1 year and partly 2 year warranty -- thse guys buy, from what I could determine - a C- pallet of comptuers and give you only a 6 month warranty on everything. So I can't say yes, or no -- but I can way when an employee who I've delt with for 10 years tells me to 'stay way, buy someplace else' -- that is advice to heed with your heart -- so simply system loads, OK, but for a full system, I'd say NEVER -- and because they aren't open on Saturday, it would not help me anyway -- I can't do them and work a the same time! - hope they went under and my friend who was on staff got a better job with a better company. read more
