This is a very small post office, in the small town of La Center. There are usually two women who…read morework the front area at a time, sometimes just one, while a long line forms. A few of the women who have worked here are pleasant and helpful, but others seem annoyed if a line forms (whose fault is that, if they are OPEN?), and if they have more than one customer to serve close to 5 pm. They don't seem to understand that as long as it is before 5pm, they are still OPEN FOR BUSINESS and should handle everyone with courtesy and patience. That is their job - this is a customer service job. On many an occasion when there are seven or eight people lined up, with two clerks working, and it was five or ten minutes before closing, the clerks gave everyone who stepped up to the counter a surly, impatient attitude, as though each person was about to ruin a perfectly good end-of-business-day for them, and force them to close up five or ten minutes late - GASP! There is no call for rudeness or impatience in this small, quiet post office, in this small, quiet town. If the women who work here get flustered when they have several people to serve, and they can't roll down the gate at precisely 5pm on the dot - please don't take it out on the customers! It is not the customers' fault if they walk in BEFORE 5pm and expect service to mail a package or buy postage. When I had to mail a small parcel to the UK, and it was ten minutes to five, and the clerk realized I had to still fill in a Customs Form, you'd think I'd just thrown a bucket of horse manure on her. She looked at me with something like contempt, because she might have to leave work two minutes late. I really didn't need the attitude, at all. I sometimes go out of my way to drive into Battle Ground for the post office there, just to avoid the rude clerks here. I also think there are one or two clerks here who like to nip peoples' Netflix dvds from the mail bins - I've had many of them go mysteriously missing, not showing up to the Netflix folks, or showing up a week late, after I mailed them from here.

We have 3 people with different surnames at our address and only one or two will get their mail at any given time. I have put a note inside our mailbox with our names and address but that doesn't help. We have made several complaints and sometimes mail service improves for a while, but that doesn't last long and no one seems to care. There is no excuse for this kind of poor delivery service. I think the local office is trying to get people to rent PO boxes in town so they don't have to go to the trouble of delivering it on rural roads.
