Quite possibly the worst post office in the United States. They have a nasty habit of refusing to deliver packages that are within their route, and then refuse to take the time to find your package when you go to retrieve it, often waiting 25 minutes to be told this. we have the worse mail delivery here in Truckee. Our mail man didnt come till after nine last night and we went our this morning and that jackass instead of walking our package to our porch he threw it in the road in front of our mail box and did the same with our neighbors package even tho the neighbors package was small enough to fix in their box but this lazy ass mailman must of wanted to get home. Yes, the employees at the window can be quite pleasant, they need to be because the rest of the overall service is terrible! Just today I had two incidents. The first was an Amazon delivery notice of failure to deliver, at 8:06am? Right. The note said my mailbox was full, it was actually empty. I know the package was large and I know they did not even load it on the truck to try because I picked it up at 11:00am while the carrier was still out. The second fail of the day was a second notice from Amazon for a second failed delivery attempt at 12:06pm saying they were "unable to access the front door". This was a small package and the door, all of 25 ft away, was completely clear. Was it just too much trouble to get to of the truck? This was just today! Something like this seemingly happens all the time! I know this post office is always understaffed and overworked, but this US govt agency's shortcomings need to be seriously addressed. read more

Horrible service, if anything gets turned over to them we just don't get it, it gets returned. Line is out the door during holidays and will take hours to get through. I am currently watching my package, which is a day late now, get sent to South Lake , sorted and sent back to Truckee for no reason over and over. Absolutely awful! Our packages are frequently marked as "delivered", but no package appears! Our postal worker often does not deliver mail because he doesn't want to get out of his mail truck. I try to never come to this post office because most of the employees are very rude. However UPS now has this thing called "surepost" so my mail that should be delivered to my house gets turned over to the post office who deems it undeliverable. I then have to try to intercept the package here. These people already hate their jobs, and having them go in the back to find a package for you seems to make their day the fucking worst! Why work here if you hate dealing with people. I had to intercept 3 packages this week, the first two were done with no hesitation from the counter clerk. But today, the lady told me it was too busy. Mind you I was the only person in the joint. She then told me maybe the guy who sorts the mail later could find it and give me a call. I'll also let you know I was kind enough to give her a Starbucks gift card, even with her shitty attitude in hopes they will not send my package back. JUST SO EVERYONE KNOWS Your supposed to address your packages like this when your not sure how it will be delivered or it tells you not deliverable to POBoxes: physical address#POB(number) A simple pamphlet letting customers know this would be very helpful, but instead they like to treat everyone like shit. She also let me know that intercepting a package is a one time courtesy, one she's probably never fulfilled. Why haven't you notified paying PO Box customer's that you LOCK THE DOORS to the building (restricting PAYING customers entry to the building after office operating hours to check their PO Box)???? Do you every understand what an inconvenience this causes for your PAYING CUSTOMERS??? Apparently the USPS claims it's a "homeless population issue." Figure it out Truckee USPS. My packages are constantly lost! this is the second package with in 3 weeks that has disappeared....1 said it was delivered to my PO Box and the second said it was delivered to a parcel box. I have also had a yellow notice stuck in another PO Box next to me that someone actually tried to pick up... had I not been there in line, They were going to just hand it over!!!! the people are so rude even when clearly it was their fault. Reading other reviews here I see that my issue has been going on for years; package not delivered. This has happened twice within a few months. Sadly although it was sent by FedEx it was then given to USPS to deliver. I have no choice but to put up with their terrible service. I think part of the problem is that at my address I have no regular carrier. I have lived in 13 cities in 7 states over the years and have Never had such terrible so called "service". This post office is incompetent. Over the years dozens of important pieces of mail have been lost, delayed, or misdelivered. Tracking shows packages delivered or notices left that weren't. The manager shows absolutely no concern. I avoid having things sent by USPS if possible but frequently other carriers transfer packages to the USPS for final delivery. Having to rely on the Truckee, USPS for important mail and packages is a nightmare. Everyone in Truckee knows this. The post office doesn't care. read more

Didn't think I would ever Yelp a post office, but the experience was so bad that I rather drive to Reno to go to the post office irfan ever return to my hometown's PO. If you are in line and a lady called Susie is your agent, walk away!!! I have mailed 50+ wedding invitations a couple weeks ago, all of them the same, for around 70 cents from another post office. She said that my card envelope was considered a small parcel and charged $2.45!!!!! Same wedding invites as the 0.70 cent envelopes! She offered to rip the stamp off my wedding invite and void it, how rude, considering I would have now wasted a rather more expensive invite than the stupid stamp. The whole interaction was beyond rude. Her interactions with other customers were just as bad...! read more

If you see the cranky old women at the counter, come back later, since she'll do whatever she can to tell you no. She wouldn't get my package because there were too many - she looked for 3 seconds - I left and came back and a wonderful Hispanic immigrant knew where my package was and retrieved it in 3 seconds. She returned during the process and admonished him for helping me. The town needs to petition to get her fired - she gives the town and the post office a bad reputation. read more

Worst post office ever! We've had two PO Boxes for over 15 years and these A holes just had our car towed out of their lot after being parked there for an hour. The tow bill was $385 and was reduced to $285 because my wife cried. Exactly what is the time limit for checking your mail and running into your office. I now know why your not getting my packages or posts through, your blood sucking employees are getting kick backs from the tow guy while they try to spy the next victim. There is free parking for post office customers and there was no line! Literally no one else in the post office when I stopped by. That's never happened to me at any post office ever! I was able to drop off my package and carry on my merry way in no time! read more

I recently contacted the Truckee post office to request delivery service at my placer County, Truckee address. The young man came out and advised me I could place my mailbox between my driveway and the corner. When advised that area was buried in 20 feet of snow in the winter he told me I would need to keep it clear. I showed my my choice of location at the end of my driveway and that my snow removal could keep that clear. A neighbor joined me to explain why his locations were unreasonable, he agreed that my location might be approved if the county snow stake was removed. Again, we attempted to educate him that they are there all year. I waited for more than a week for their decision and received none. I returned today, waited in line for 30 minutes in my mask and asked again. Same kid came out and informed he I had to move the pole. I asked how long his supervisor had been in Truckee and the answer was not long. Anybody want to guess why the USPS is going under? read more

Agree 100% with the previous reviews. I have gotten reprimanded 4 times in the 4 weeks I've lived here. Have gotten rude remarks from the postal workers, told that a package wasn't there even though they gave me a slip and I had email confirmation from the sender that indeed, they did! Unbelievable. For all of you that want to see a great example of your inept government hard not at work, come on down to the Truckee USPS! In the months of November and December 34 packages were scheduled to be delivered to our address. 11 of those were UPS - all arrived as scheduled. 12 of them were via FedEx - all arrived as scheduled. The remaining 11 were set to be delivered via USPS. Of those 11 4 eventually made it to the house, most late. The rest were returned as undeliverable to the merchants. Here is the best part, they were all addressed identical. Many even came from the same exact merchant of the first 4 packages that did make it. This is not the first time we have had issues with USPS. This time was just so bad I decided to write a review. When we called the USPS to inquire about our packages we basically got a bunch of whining and bs excuses. It's virtually impossible to fire USPS employees, as it is any government worker. This breeds inept, lazy, entitled employees that mooch and loot our tax dollars. I know there are some employees that do care about their jobs and therefore this assessment is a bit unfair, and to those few, I apologize. In 2014 alone the USPS ran at a 2 billion dollar deficit. That deficit was made up by us the tax payers. Continuing to reward those who do not perform has to end. Its time to close down the USPS. read more

I don't even know what to say. This place is run worse than any place I've ever seen. It's 2019 and they still manage stuff with paper and binder. How is there system not computerized? Most of the people that work there are practically useless and even mean (the older lady that worked there actually yelled at me and told me to go live somewhere else. I was just asking questions about how I can receive my mail and I was even open to coming to the post office the day it was delivered to pick it up). They constantly send back my packages saying invalid address which then makes talking to amazon for a refund take longer since they want to verify that the address is correct. And they probably count that as a successful delivery in their statistics. I could probably write a book about how terrible this place is but it would all be useless since it's not like the post office cares since it's paid for by tax payer money and they don't answer to anyone. read more

I've lived in Truckee for 5 years and have had countless horrible experiences with this post office. They've lost multiple packages of mine and friends'. They opened late on tax day this year, 2015. Some of the employees are as grumpy as those at the dmv. And just today, I found out that they returned a package I've been eagerly awaiting because my address was "insufficient," which I've just confirmed was not the case. This is why I purposely drive to Tahoe City to send Xmas gifts each year. read more

The worst!!!! Most post offices I've dealt with have a common thread of incompetence and rudeness. But this place is at the top of the list. It probably wouldn't matter so much if me and the rest of the dissatisfied residents didn't depend so much on the service. Unlike other towns/cities we are forced to go to the office to pick up our packages not just pick them up on our doorstep. On many occasions I'm met with rudeness telling me they can't find my package and after struggling with them its actually found. Susie is the worst offender. I've yet to encounter a person more rude and lazy than her. But let's not forget the guy delivering the mail. On more than one occasion he fails to leave a note that a package is waiting at their office. The only way I find this out is UPS gives me an email notification. Absolutely horrible service. They have a rule: if mailbox is in accessible due to snow, *no mail gets delivered*. Period. No matter if the package is too big to fit inside a mailbox. I ordered two packages through Amazon. Too big to fit into the mailbox. (Mailbox is off to the side behind a 4-ft mound of snow). Driveway and entry way have been shoveled clear. The driver would have to dismount and drop off the packages at the door anyways. Called the postmaster (Rich). Explained the situation. He agreed that their rule did not make sense if the package were too big for a mailbox, yet he said he would not deliver anyways. I asked for a one-time courtesy of delivering these packages since I did not know about this rule and I was not there to shovel out the mailbox. Rich refused. I guess I should not have been surprised given the general level of USPS service, but somehow I thought that things would be a bit different in a small community town like Truckee... read more
