I had my first experience with the Truckee post office this week and it was excellent. I had 2 issues this past week that I needed help with. 1) I don't have USPS mail delivery in Tahoe Donner and learned that an order I placed was being sent USPS. On the day it was supposed to arrive I went downtown (free parking and very short line) and Abdul looked up my tracking number, went into the back and he pulled it off a truck for me. 2) I needed a form signed by someone at the post office, in order to get an insurance reimbursement on a lost/stolen international package. Missy was not sure how to handle it, but said she'd talk to the postmaster later that day and call me, so I did not have to keep coming in and checking the status of my request. She called the next day and told me to come in and that she had the paperwork ready. I came in (free parking, short line) and she filled out the form for me. Two for two! Wow. I just moved to Truckee and I cannot believe how bad this post office is. A package was supposed to be delivered and they just didn't even bother to go by our house bc they assumed no one lived there still. Didn't even check. When I went to the post office, they told me that. Next, I sent two cards to my sister in Humboldt. One card for Mother's Day for her and another card with a $100 bill in it for my nephews birthday. She didn't receive either card. Hmmmm..... Now there was a package that was supposed to be delivered two days ago. I got part of it only bc they shipped that portion of it through FedEx. I just figured it would arrive maybe the next day.. nope. Still didn't arrive today. So I looked in my email to track the package. It says held at post office per customer request. WTF? I never requested that. Nor was there any notification that I had a package waiting at the Post Office!?!? So I went on Yelp to look up their phone number and started to read all of the other reviews. I've had nice people help me at the actual post office.... But it seems like their delivery drivers can be lazy, shady thieves!!!!! After reading the reviews, I'm not surprised what has happened now. I will avoid having any shipments sent to me through USPS and will only use Office Boss to send out anything! this review is for passport photo services. even though it allows you to book it and confirmation email sent. They DO NOT have the ability to perform this service. something about not being trained and they don't have the equipment. they also don't have the ability to remove/decline appointments. i told them maybe someone should follow up and tell people, since they can see the appointments but can't decline them. the lady working there just shrugged, apologised and walked away. read more

Wish I could give negative stars...they deserve negative 10!!! Do yourself a favor and get a PO box elsewhere. This post office seems to only deliver and pick up mail when they want to and NEVER answers the phone. I have been expecting medication since last week and it still hasn't arrived. We do get storms and I understand a delay, but when other vehicles are driving daily with no issues there is no reason the post office should not deliver and pick up mail. I have lived all over this country and this post office is by far the WORST I have ever dealt with. Office Boss is a much better choice if you want to receive your mail. read more

Absolute worst postal service possible. Not only have the lost my vehicle registration TWICE, but they also refuse to deliver mail when they are busy, and hit you with some bogus excuse. Usually it's that mailbox is inaccessible, mail was held per customer request, or mailbox was full. Now they've decided our mailbox location isn't appropriate for delivery, even though it's been in the same location for almost 40 years. What a joke. read more

Worst service ever! Last Christmas 2 packages were handed over by UPS to be delivered by this post office. They didn't even deliver them as they have LIMITED boxes for residents and the 2 packages ( Christmas gifts) were returned to sender. But it was compounded by the fact that they sent them back the same day they arrived. But we had to wait in line and listen to multiple people with the same issue. And the guy helping us disappeared and chatted with other workers and wasted an hour plus of our time! They need better service and a holiday package system for ALL RESIDENTS. A certified mail parcel stated it had been delivered on the 24th of Feb and will be returned by the 10 of March. The 1 gentleman at the counter stated they had just received 30 pallets of Amazon packages, this has nothing to do with prior certified mail and there is no excuse to not have a certified mail parcel in my p.o. box that I pay for. He kept going on about a yellow ticket and was going on about someone sitting on their comfortable chair. One single employee assisting a line out the door. Horrible read more

I rarely post but this is an issue that needs attention. I understand staff shortages and having to deal with the public, but this post office staff is the worst experience I have ever had. I registered my address last year and since I have had two non deliveries of a product due to a mix up in my address. I have had to go to post office three time to try and straighten out. they did not have my address recorded, but yet I've been getting mail delivered since last year. the front desk person was very rude when I asked about a package that was sent back to sender. I had to spend extra shipping to have it reshipped. When my informed mail said it was delivered I had to go to post office stand I. Another line and my package could not be found. I was persistent and they ended up finding my package. I asked why it wasn't delivered the first time, the front desk lady said my address wasn't recognized by usps driver! What? I have lived here for 6 months getting mail and other deliveries. I asked what I can do to make sure my address is in system so this doesn't happen again, she said she couldn't help Me and rudely stated "things happen". I am normally very tolerant of mistakes and try to help but this office really needs help. very poor service with something as important as mail delivery. please get some help in Truckee and train your people. it has caused a lot of issues with a lot of people. Note: there is one lady that is extremely nice and helpful but the rest are just not helpful at all. Maybe hire a manager to train and organize this office. read more

I was in there yesterday and One of the employees (Woman) came out from the back not wearing a mask and started helping people. She helped about 4 people without wearing a mask and the other male employee; in charge who wears his mask under his nose all the time never said anything to her. This is absolutely unacceptable as Truckee this week has been added to the list of places that are back in the red for covid cases. I can't have my packages delivered to my PO Box any more because they... pre-open my packages. Several packages from Amazon recently have been opened, one item stolen, and then taped back up with normal packing tape. Very frustrating. read more

I live in Truckee, because I love the area! But there is no love for my local Post Office! I have experienced many stressful moments while dealing with them. First off, I have a delivery guy who has no respect for my property or my mail. We consistently receive all my neighbors mail, and consistently lose our own mail that is probably going other places. Packages are being left out, even tho there is a big box labeled ...for mail & packages. For the last week and a half we have not even received our mail. The 1st time I went in to see why...the only guy up front told me that my carrier was on vacation, then the second time (after a week) I went back and the same worker told me that my mail carrier was snowed in at his apartment and that mailboxes where not accessible. I take a lot of my time during the snow season to make sure there is complete access for my mail to be delivered. This year I feel I am wasting my time and energy! By not getting my mail on time, it has cost me a lot of time and money, and has caused major stress. This is were my tax dollars are going??? I would love to have good things to say about them, but that is a earned right! read more

To the mail people delivering packages at Coburn Crossing Apartments. You smoke while sorting out the mail, the mail smells like cigarettes. You do not wear a uniform. You do not put the correct packages in parcel lockers. I have gotten 3 of my neighbors packages this week and have not gotten mine. Because people steal them if they are in the wrong box. BEWARE: Never use the USPS in Truckee California for delivery of a large package. They will always say it is undeliverable because the it is an unknown person or an unknown address. What in the hell is going on with the Deerfield post office. To see if it was them or not, I mailed a letter from the downtown post office to my PO Box on Deerfield. Informed delivery showed it as being in my box for delivery that day. It was NOT delivered to my box for 3 days. It seems like they do not bother to put mail out for 3 days at a time. Try telling that to your bill collectors who are more than eager to charge you a late fee. I no longer send mail out of that post office. I will drive to Reno just to mail letters. If anyone knows how to resolve this issue, Please post your reply to yelp. Calling the main post office downtown is impossible. They are the worst. Constant errors and failed deliveries. There appears to be no good reason either. Almost every time they fail to deliver they claim to have attempted to deliver. That's bogus though as the excuses make no sense. This place is frustrating! Avoid whenever possible. LOTS OF P.O. BOXES I have a weird thing for post offices. I like walking in and looking around. We parked out front of this one on Sunday and I wasn't sure if it'd be unlocked (since they're not open). Doors were unlocked because most of the inside is PO Boxes. They were pretty cool. Lots of different sizes. The outside of the office was pretty with trees and artwork on the building. While parking, we failed to notice that you have to pay for spots 7 days a week, so we returned to a $41.00 parking ticket after strolling around Truckee. read more

I've lived in Truckee for 15 years and in all fairness to the mail carriers, winter conditions can be tough here. That said, up until about a year or so ago, I was very happy with our service; I always felt confident that our mail would be delivered if at all possible. Totally different story now. Seems like our service is in complete disarray and delivery is just hit or miss. Our whole street recently went a week with no mail for no apparent reason. And packages, sometimes they get delivered, sometimes not. I've asked what's going on at the post office and all,they can say is that they are short-staffed. A very sad situation. read more

Why is the mail mailbox area closed so early. The doors used to be open all the time and now when I try to either go in the morning or go after work, the doors are locked. You can't access your own mailbox cause the doors are always locked. They cant even post Hours that the building is open so we at least know if its worth going to try and pick up mail. I remember fifteen years ago when this post office felt like Northern Exposure, with people coming in with their dogs. It was pretty cool. But now with all the Bay Area micro chippers, retirees, etc.,....oh well. You'll still see some construction workers who have a six-pack for dinner here, so the old Truckee vibe is alive and well. This is the best place to socialize in town (or not) depending if you want to meet or avoid someone. And yes, you can get stamps, boxes, postage, P.O. boxes and passports here. Some of the employees are awesome, some not so much, including the veteran employee who recently screamed at me, but my blood pressure didn't rise, and really, it's always a happening at your local small town P.O. I want to thank the employees who run this Truckee USPS for always dealing with my concerns and complaints so professionally and politely. I had to file inquiries due to a lost package and a miscommunication with an employee and both times I was contacted by Stephen who explained each situation at length while making me feel like a valued resident and customer. I know USPS is going through a lot during this time (especially on this Election Day) and whenever there is an error or issue, I know this USPS cares about the service I receive and they do everything they can to resolve any disputes. read more

Our mail man didnt come till after nine last night and we went our this morning and that jackass instead of walking our package to our porch he threw it in the road in front of our mail box and did the same with our neighbors package even tho the neighbors package was small enough to fix in their box but this lazy ass mailman must of wanted to get home. Quite possibly the worst post office in the United States. They have a nasty habit of refusing to deliver packages that are within their route, and then refuse to take the time to find your package when you go to retrieve it, often waiting 25 minutes to be told this. Went in today to register a very old motorcycle which had lost papers. Completed the appropriate papers, all four of them, and without too much delay I was able to get my updated registration, my green sticker etc. I just had to go get the bike for numbers verification and I was done. Julie was the counter person who assisted me and she was very helpful and pleasant to work with! Standing in line outside I was exposed to quite a few horror stories.
