This is a seriously tiny post office location. I have been in my share of small, one person, post…read moreoffices: this one is one of the smallest. There are a couple of parking spots on the left side of the building for patrons and plenty of on street parking available. Post boxes are located on the sidewalk directly in front for 'walk up' mail drops; no driving up to these boxes, they are on the passenger side of your vehicle. The entrance is a short ramp from the sidewalk. Just inside to the left are P.O. Boxes and ahead is a small counter area. There is a lot going on in this small space. There are no more than several dozen post office boxes I would say in total in a small nook. Didn't actually count them. The counter space it self is mainly clear with a scale on the right and the computer system further on, out of reach. There is a plexiglass in front of that section keeping you off the the side during your transaction. The one person working was in back when I arrived. These smaller locations employ literally one person who is responsible for receiving mail, sorting, 'putting the mail up' into the PO boxes, providing customer service and all the attendant business related paperwork. I just waited patiently for about 45 seconds until they came out to see if I required assistance. Masks are required to be worn by customers during this time, and the person assisting me was wearing a mask. Hand sanitizer is on the counter. I had some cards that needed weighing in case they were overweight; they were. I also needed more stamps as my last round of card sending depleted my stock. There is a lot of card and post card sending happening over here lately. Staying in touch with friends and family during this time of often feeling isolated is a nice surprise. I know I appreciate it when I get a surprise card in the mail. The items I requested (two specific types of stamps) were procured, cards weighed, stamped and given over to be added to outgoing mail were all accomplished quickly and professionally. This location is not exactly 'on my way' generally speaking, but I would not hesitate to stop by here at any time when I am in need of more postal supplies.

First let me mention decor; this is actually a wonderful bit of architecture both inside and out. In fact, the gentleman who helped my girlfriend and I informed us that there is a similar work of art in Providence, RI (i.e. the post office is built upon the same model). No cookie-cutter P.O. here folks. A typical post office experience is probably most comparable to a day at the registry of motor vehicles (translated: yucky and lame); this is what I expected and was cranky and frankly dreading the need to get a passport for a little trip up the river to Canada (said need the topic of an entirely different soapbox sometime down the road perhaps). We were, however, treated to possibly the most friendly and enthusiastic postal clerk we have ever had the pleasure to work with; he made the inevitably painful experience bearable and eased us through, going above and beyond repeatedly, offering to take care of several steps that normally would have sent someone to the back of the line (or worse, home). We left feeling reassured and, in all honesty, awestruck by how refreshing the whole experience was. The take home message folks? Government employees do NOT have to be miserable to function and one's expectations need not be so low when contemplating a trip to the town Post Office.

We needed passports (a first one for Ryan, and a renewal and name change for me), and we arrived -- "descended upon" would probably be more accurate -- with a rag-tag collection of applications in various states of completion, certified documents, and more questions than answers...including, can the passport fairy please make all of this happen in time for our trip to see my beloved Liverpool FC play in Toronto about a month from now. And by the way, we don't have photos and, oh yeah, surprise, I'm out of checks. I felt a little like one of those tourists in a foreign land who, unable to make sense of the currency, just hands over a wad of mystery money to a shop keeper and begs them to take what they need. I imagine most postal workers would have run for the hills, or slammed the window shut and declared that passport processing is done for the day please come back Monday when someone else will be working. But the young man at the Palmer post office on Saturday morning had some serious halo action over his head. He was kind, patient, understanding, and abundantly competent and helpful. He figured it all out, made sense of our paperwork, advised us on how to get the fastest turnaround in processing, took our photos, made a couple of phone calls to get answers that he didn't have, turned my debit card into the appropriate money orders, and even filled us in on some of the history of the building when he overheard us comment on how beautiful it was. Folks, it simply doesn't get any better than this.

It's right across the street from Neil Cook Memorial Park and a small baseball field. It's also next-door to a church. The postal workers here are VERY nice and friendly. I don't think I ever encountered a rude worker at this location... This location is NEVER BUSY. I don't think I have ever seen a person here- while I was here. They do have PO Boxes, as I've seen them in the lobby. Not sure what type of services they offer- because of how small of a location it is. But this is an ideal post office because it is NEVER busy! It's convenient for people who live in the area. I work in the area and I occasionally have to ship packages so I will just bring them with me and stop when I pass by one. This one is often on my route. JUSY AN FYI : Everyone that doesn't have a printer beware, NEARLY every time I try to print a label from a QR code they have an issue with it. So if you're trying to print from a QR code. Save yourself the trip- and just go to a different one. It's happened to me at least 5x here and I do not come here frequently!!!
