I had a package that was supposed to be delivered by USPS. The day of, I get a noticed at 6 in the morning that my mailbox was too full and they couldn't deliver, but would try again. That's fine - my apt. mailbox is small, so USPS usually either stuck it in the package box or delivered at my door. Later that day, I get a note in my mailbox stating that the mailbox wouldn't fit the package and I could either have it redelivered on another day or go pick it up. I went online and scheduled a new delivery date. Got a confirmation email and thought everything was settled. New delivery date came... And went. Package still showed as new delivery date scheduled, will be delivered on scheduled day. This went on for three days before I just contacted shipper and asked them to send me a new one as I figured it was lost now. My new package got delivered two days later thru a different carrier and the status on the 1st package was still the same. Two weeks after that - status on package changed to lost and then returned to sender, all within 20 mins (timestamped). Interesting... Anyway - I would not recommend this location. Not sure why my package was here as this is NOT the closest one to me, but I'm sure it has to do with distribution lines. Every time USPS "delivers" a package, it's really just them dropping off one of these stupid little orange slips instead of the actual package. No knock, no doorbell, just a passive-aggressive note telling you to go fetch it yourself like it's some damn scavenger hunt. You can request a redelivery, but they won't actually do it. Your package will just sit at the post office, gathering dust for a month until they pretend to "return it to sender"... except the sender never gets it back either. ‍ Then comes the joy of picking it up. First, you have to battle for a parking spot downtown and pay for the privilege. Once inside, you'll find a line of 20 people all clutching the same stupid orange slip like it's some kind of USPS loyalty card. After waiting half an hour, you're finally greeted by an employee who looks at you like you're the inconvenience. Truly an amazing experience on par with getting a root canal with no anesthesia. Really don't want to pile on to USPS's woes but man they need to get their act together. Last year I was abroad for 3 weeks and I placed an online mail hold. When I got back, lo and behold, I find my mailbox overstuffed with my mail. I went to my local post office (this one) and inquired about the situation. They told me that online requests tend to get lost in the ether (seems like a cop out to me) and that I should file hold requests in person next time. I'm not sure why they wouldn't be able to honor or manage an online request, but anyway, this year before my vacation, I made sure to fill out a paper form and returned it to the clerk. I selected the option for all my mail to be delivered upon my return. What do I see when I get back? My mailbox is only partially full, and I know that I should've gotten more mail because I subscribe to daily digests from the UsPs. So it seems like some of my mail is now missing. The building is spectacular; however, the service is the worst. Three weeks before Christmas, there was only one service window open. The desk clerk was rude and of little help. When contacting the post office they say the main carrier is always off and subs take over route which causes mistakes. If you need to pick up a package, be weary of the old Taiwanese lady - she is very rude. She got really excited when she thought I was from Taiwan and was very disappointed when I told her I wasn't. I was polite the entire time so I don't know why she was so extra. Yeah I know it's frustrating that larger packages cannot get delivered to a lot of us. The Staff inside of the Post Office is beyond nice. I see them put up with a lot of stuff that would put me over the edge. They are incredibly friendly and patient with so many people. Sure it's not always convenient to have to pick up packages from the post office, sure the parking is not always easy, sure it can be frustrating but seeing so many people take it out on the kind people working inside is sad. Have been trying for two days to get someone there to answer the phone - with no luck! The middle panel covering a bank of mailboxes in our complex has been broken for weeks. So there's been NO mail all this time. Unfortunately too, it is being held at this office several blocks away. It is open only weekdays 8:30 to 5, making it impossible for us (and many others) to go there to retrieve our mail. I want to know when we can expect this situation to be resolved AND how do we get our mail in the meantime. I called the USPS general number and all the agent could do was to "open up" a ticket. Miserable. First, we live in a neighborhood with inconsistent mail delivery. This past week I saw three different postal carriers on the same day delivering mail. On a different day, we didn't get any mail at all and we were expecting six pieces per Informed Delivery. Did you know that the "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds" is NOT the post office motto? It isn't. (Clearly, it isn't.) The woman in front of me in line couldn't read the teeny tiny list of charges posted on the wall at the window. Didn't matter because the USPS woman behind the counter said it wasn't accurate. The USPS has "resolved" five issues for us so far, none of the lost or misdirected mail was recovered. How does one deliver a package, and admit to delivering it to a different zip code altogether, but then tell me to contact my credit card company IF I want my money back for the package they mis-delivered? How can a forwarding order be so completely ignored? NONE of the phone numbers work, and I have a few from "customer service" supervisors. I never experienced somebody so rude working as a USPS postal clerk. I was first time to this facility and took a while already to walk and get lost and found out it's in the same building of the st James building and didn't know where the Dropbox was so I went straight to an Asian lady who uttered "What what" and even "Gi?" in Vietnamese, but she was not helpful at all. She wanted me to put my packages in the Dropbox instead of coming to her but didn't even make the effort to show me where it was. And I asked if I needed confirmation receipts for my packages she asked me back "Do you need it? Take a picture". All other postal service workers at other locations that I have been to are very nice and helpful except for this one, very disappointing. I don't understand why such a big professional government postal service lets such a rude person work in front office. She should belong to the back or work as a courier only and yield her front position to people who are nicer and willing to help customers. read more

So this is the post office nearest to my home. Unfortunately, it's my least favorite post office. I have found they're a little less efficient, not as nice, & kind of have this odd stickler for "procedures" that other post offices do not have. They do *not* have the self-checkout type kiosk where you can weigh & purchase your postage for packages/envelopes. Then once finished deposit into a large bin. These are super helpful, especially since this office is not open on Saturday's. I will often drive over to the Branham post office instead of going to this one. I prefer the customer service & efficiency @ the Branham office. The drive & walk time equal about the same drive time to Branham. And at Branham, I don't have to pay for parking. Most beautiful postal office in San Jose. It feels like a time warp walking in even if it's just for a few minutes. I don't work too far from here so I like to take a stroll if I need to mail something. The workers are fine considering they work for USPS -- I've never had any issues. There is one lady that is always overly decked out with shirt pins, jewelry, make up, and really long and bright colored nails. I believe she runs the little pop up service station -- it's easier for patrons that have simple transactions like stamp purchases or certified mailing. This location even houses PO Boxes for those that live in or near DTSJ looking for a secured mailing address. There is a second floor but I have no clue what is up there. I can just say that it is a beautifully preserved building. I hope the City of San Jose leaves it as such. read more

Not good or pleasant experience at all, I'll even say it's worse than going to the DMV. There's an older African American lady who works here and is very rude. I saw/heard her yelling at a woman because she couldn't speak English. She also proceeded to yell at me because I forgot to bring my confirmation paper for my package. Ok I messed up...I went during the middle of a work day and forgot to take the paper with me, easy mistake. I ended up getting frustrated and snapped back at her a bit saying I guess I'll need to go back to my house and get the slip. She then told me that I could write down my tracking number, name and address. I said I could show my ID as proof of my identity but she snapped at me and said that won't work, ok I'm giving 2 stars bc the young African American woman was helpful and much nicer and the Asian woman seems nice as well read more

I hate that this post office gets a bad rep. It's such a beautiful building, i adore visiting it to do something as mundane as mail my post. It can get incredibly busy but you just need to bring your patience. It's not the staff that's inept, it's the clientele! To help mitigate it i love that they shove people to the side to keep the rest of the line going. I've been going here for twenty years now and appreciate the central location. Requested and paid for a copy of the mail key 6 days ago. Was told to come back 2-3 days later. Went on the 5th day. Was told the person who makes the key haven't been available. They have NO IDEA when it'll be ready. Called the USPS phone number. Spoke to a dude who keep talking over me like a robot when I asked him to repeat the (wrong) information in their computer system he provided. Gave me an address that wasn't even the right address. Today I went into the downtown San Jose post office on North 1st to report my postal delivery person for not wearing a mask, only to find several of the employees at this post office not wearing them either. The supervisor I spoke to kept me waiting for 15 minutes, with no apology. She told me that while she did let my delivery person know to wear a mask when entering my apartment building, she couldn't make him do it. It's something she could "suggest he do if he feels comfortable." I reminded her that it's a government mandated requirement to wear a mask, and not something to do "if you feel comfortable." She went on to justify his lack of a mask because the poor guy is out by himself all day. I have no idea how this justifies him endangering our health by not wearing a mask. I told her that she's not taking this seriously, and that she's allowing postal workers to endanger the health and lives of the public they serve. We need to reform the postal system, and hire people who care about the public they serve. read more

I visited the Post office in September, to ask how to order the lost mailbox key for my living Condo in San Jose. On Sept 15, I visited again, and was able to order the key. The price was $50. The woman said that it takes 3 days, so 3 days later I revisited the same place to pick up my key. But the man told me that it usually takes 6 day, so I re-visited 10 days later, then different man said that the key was still not available. It was Friday, and he said the key should be available on coming Monday for sure. So, I visited next Friday instead of Monday, then the woman said the key is still not available. She said there is basically no guarantee when the key can be ready. I asked her why the previous 3 people didn't say that. She suggested that I should access the web site to track the package shown on the receipt. I accessed usps.com, and login to my account, and was trying to enter the tracking #, but there is no such information on the receipt. This is a very nice old post office, but it's in a terrible area. The employees are quick with their services and always make sure that you know where your tracking is located on your receipt and often remind you of the surveys at the bottom to let the company know how they are doing. they offer plenty of PO boxes if that's what you need, but also take care of everything else as far as shipping items out and picking up larger items. read more

I called and no assistance in helping me book a Passport Apt. over the phone. Representative said I had to do it on-line and I informed her the site wasn't working. I called this office all day and no one picks up the phone and when they do they have no customer service skills. Basically they said I was out of luck and couldn't come in without an Apt. for a passport. I have spent over 5 hrs trying to schedule an Apt on-line and the person on the phone said maybe I needed some technical knowledge. I work in Technology and she hung up the phone and said she couldn't help me out. What is happening do people don't care anymore. I wish I had read the other reviews before going to this post office. Short version - go anywhere else if you can. I had a package held for pickup, and when it arrived, I went to pick it up. The agent who helped me told me a series of lies about the package (he said that USPS will only hold all of your mail, not just packages; then said it was on a truck and en route to be delivered to my house; then asked for my information again, and got the package from the back). The worst part is, while I was waiting, another couple came in for their package. I'd stepped to the side to call the national USPS number to prove that I'd had my package held. I heard the same agent tell the couple that their package wasn't there, even though they had printed out their tracking information. Who knows if they ever got their package? Went to pick up mail today from my P.O. box and I got a slip dated March 24...USPS took over a month to give me this slip. Liars and thieves. These workers operate like they are all in on a huge robbery scam. I've been in the complaint line so many times to see (I think her name is Yang, she never wears a name tag, probably bc she knows her bad attitude will get her lots of complaints) the woman at the complaint line flat out lie to customers about procedure(myself included) saying that there is nothing they can do if I package goes missing and says "delivered". I've had to stop several customers on their way out and tell them how to start a case online. Anyway when I get three missing packages in a month I go complain, the mailman has been marking the packages as left in lobby or mail room, which my apartment does not have. These packages could have easily fit in my mailbox, when I arrive home my mailbox is locked and there is other mail waiting. One time our mail was stolen and they did not take the time to go through the mail much less lock the boxes back up. So I talk to Yang at customer service who is right away defensive and unwilling to listen. Upon writing my name she misspelled it FIVE times, which resulted in me raising my voice to be clear, which caused her to get more defensive. Listen it's not the customers job to compensate for your language barriers. If you can't understand or be understood calm down and speak slower, not faster. Her attitude is the last thing someone missing items needs to deal with, so naturally I escalate to the manager a woman named Belen. She got my information and said she would contact the mailman and get back to me. Frankly I'm pretty sure the mailman is stealing my packages and obviously he says they've been delivered to my imaginary mail room/lobby. NO ACCOUNTABILITY!! So Belen gets my number and says she will have her supervisor John give me a call. He never gave me a call but the mailman came to my apartment and told my roommate he can reimburse me for the missing packages, but of course, leaves no contact information. Take two I'm back in Yangs line as I'm seeing her tell customer after customer that she checked the back for their missing items and that's all she can do. One customer had his mail found right after he left. They had me run after him outside but he was already gone. I keep telling customers to make a case and follow up. When it's my turn I immediately ask to see a manager but, according to Yang, Belen is in a meeting, so she passes me off to a man named Keenoh. He writes a note on Belens DESK (which I'm standing in front of) saying she has a customer waiting and my address info and goes to help other customers. He keeps coming back saying "oh she must be on her break or something I don't know where she could be, but I can give her your information so she can get back to you", yeah maybe I'd believe you if you bothered to write down my phone number, or if I had received a call last time I subjected myself to this circus they call a day job. So after an HOUR of waiting I ask Keenoh if he can double check on Belen, bc we were told she was in a meeting, then lunch, and both should be over by now. So finally he goes to the back and Belen IMMEDIATELY comes out. She immediately tells me that I need to talk to HER supervisor John. I guess he's the only one who knows procedure bc he tells me COMPLETELY different information then anyone else I've spoken to, and the only thing I can do is contact the seller for a refund although any online shopper knows that the seller is not accountable after shipping. So basically he tells me everything everyone else told me was incorrect and even though we all know that no seller will reimburse you for an item they sent you. That there is absolutely nothing they can do, and he recommends getting stronger mailboxes for our building and trying to argue with overseas sellers for my refunds. We already have cameras on the ones we have, we know when they are tampered with and when you guys fail at your job. So with absolutely no offers to resolve anything I'm forced to follow up over their heads, and deciding to get my mail rerouted to my parents house in another town that doesn't deal with any of these issues. If you live in this area know the mail workers here are completely dishonest and at the very least indifferent towards theft on their watch. No sense of empathy, accountability, or even human decency. Even if they aren't stealing, they for sure are not being honest! Btw John said he was there the whole time we were waiting. Apparently Keenoh lied about looking in the back for both Belen and John. John you seem like a nice guy, but you need to hold people accountable as a supervisor and stop acting like nothing is wrong. I see the complaint line full every time I come here. No wonder this place is constantly getting worse. Sad that the people in line are way more helpful then the postal employees. I've been noticing my fiance's magazine have been constantly being bent and folded with pages ripped out. More than once. A pic is attached to how I would find my magazines being delivered. Wow, apparently I'm in the minority here with this location cause I've never had any issues while coming here. Though I go "early" (11am-12pm) due to having to typically go on my lunch break and I only ever ship items or purchase stamps so that could also be why no issues. Also shipping lines are also minimal at this time so that's a huge plus. Customer service seems typical of that at any post office - some friendly and willing to work with you (assuming you understand what you need to fill out paperwork-wise) and others who just want to get their work done and don't want small talk so then can move on to the next person in line, move on to other tasks or take their break. (Maybe because I'm a frequent shipper and I know what I need to process any packages that this is why I haven't any any issues ever - who knows.) Occasionally there is a lady who sits off to the side of the main line who seems to assist with simple tasks like answering questions to make the line go faster - I've never had her assistance so I can't say how that experience is. The location is in downtown so there seems to be limited parking (I always take the light rail so I can't vouch for anything other than what I see). It's also right next to St. James Park so there are homeless nearby. As far as I can tell they stay away from the stoop that faces the park so you're good to go in/out of the building without any issues. Regardless, I will continue to go here as it is the closest location to my work via public transit. read more

Thee worse experience at a post office (that says a lot). It took 5 staff members to NOT help me! There was an older middle aged Asian woman who seemed in charge. She was utterly useless in helping me resolve my concern and passed me off to a fourth staff. She then went on to scold & belittle the last staff member in front of me, the only African American staff member. Sadly he was the most helpful than all the others! They literally played tag by bouncing me around to FIVE staff members to ultimately let me walk away without resolving my concern. The information they provided was conflicting & not helpful. Parking was metered parking close by but if you're not lucky, then you might be parking further away. This post office was one of the few places that I've been to that had a building that looked like this. The architecture and design of the building had that vintage look which I thought was cool to see. There were three places to get helped and the girl I talked to explained to me what happened to my package. She was helpful and I was on my way.
