    Line of people waiting

There are 15 people waiting in front of me. Two people behind the counter. Neither of them acknowledge us. They walk away without a word. One of them comes back 5 minutes later. Helps three people and walks away again without a word. Now there are 10 more people behind me.

    Long lines short staff

The absolute slowest post office ever. Poorly staffed for a busy neighborhood! Give yourself at least 30 minutes to wait in line.

Very rude and don't open on time. No communication. How can people with no customer service have jobs.

Once I got to the front, the super kind lady brought me through the side door to take my picture. She took a few snaps, asked me which one was best? I told her they all look the same. She went over my paperwork, had me make a few changes, additions, photocopied all the things (extra charge) and with the swipe of my debit card for $184.55, I was on my way. My passport arrived two weeks later. . . before my birth certificate. It was the most painless process ever and worth every penny. Here's the breakdown of pricing- USPS Passport Fee- $35 Photo Service- $15 Money Order- $130 Money Order Fee- $2.55 Copy Machine- $2

I decided to open a mailbox with them and in 2 months having one, they lost my packages twice already. There's no accountability cause every person you talked to would just say 'Oh it's not me who worked that day' We showed on one of our tracking receipts who received/signed for the package and conveniently that person has retired but somehow their name was still in the system and being used. I understand maybe it's not specifically 'you' that lost my package but you happened to be the person I'm talking to and you're wearing the uniform that represents that government entity you're working for, so have some accountability and pride in what you do. It's frustrating when you lost your valuables and all they could say "Oh it's not me. It's not my fault. I don't know. Check your address." This branch is very much neglected and they just keep rotating people who work here. Most of them can't really help you with anything more than shipping your packages or selling stamps. No other services provided here. I don't even know why people still want to wait in line just to mail something. I'd recommend invest in a cheap printer and just print your label at home, or a couple blocks from there you can go to a mail and photo service on Haight and Masonic. They also have mailbox service. It might be a bit more expensive than the USPS but it's better managed and not having the constant fear of losing your packages is worth it!

I wonder what will happen to post offices in general. We still receive correspondence written by hand by human beings. My wife's family has instilled in every generation the importance of writing thank you notes. The ratio, however, of junk mail to personal letters/postcards must be 100:1. And we would be among those outliers likely receiving more genuine material intended for us as individuals. I happen to like visiting the post office as well, like libraries. They are civic institutions. The efficiency here is about average; the line moves along. But the friendliness of the staff is exceptional. I see various reviewers have commented on the clerk named Darcy. She is chatty in the best sense -- USPS hires many employees ("there's always work at the post office"), and they ought to be encouraged either to look for other prospects like her or train them. The others also are cheery. I have a post office I rely on where I live most of the time, and the folks there are, to be honest, not engaged at best and sullen at worst.

Boxes usually sit in distribution center in S.F. for 2 or 3 days without moving regardless of what day they are posted on. Expensive, clearly addressed packages sent via priority mail to Silver City, New Mexico, 2 states away, are being routinely routed to Indianapolis, Indiana, where they sit for a minimum of 3 days. Customers cannot call or text or message postal personnel anymore, they are just sent around in circles and referred to endless, useless on-line articles. Problems are not acknowledged or documented or resolved. So nothing changes. Ground Advantage boxes take l.5 to 2 weeks to arrive in Silver City, NM, and most have been misrouted to Colorado, Alburquerque, and other locations, or made to go through 3 or 4 locations in Texas despite having legible, printed address labels. Talking to employees at the local P.O. doesn't help, even when they are presented with the receipts/postal slips from which they can see the tracking problems. If anything customers are handed a slip of paper listing postal contact phone numbers and internet links that nobody answers or whose links don't work. Customers have been totally locked out. And problems cannot be reported to postal inspectors, the links don't work and the site isn't currently being manned allegedly due to government shutdown. Customers have to just wait for several weeks to see if the packages get delivered. I just posted a priority mail box that cost almost $26.00 and was supposed to have arrived Saturday, 10/25/25 - but didn't because as with others it was misrouted and is sitting half-way across the country. So priority boxes that should arrive in 4 or 5 days are taking 8 days or more to arrive at destinations just two states away! Bottom line: Customers are being routinely ripped off and mislead and shut out by the postal service. USPS cannot fix problems they don't acknowledge!

Needless to say, it's important, and the ordeal involved us running to the consulate a couple of times to get those papers notarized. To ensure the papers arrive ASAP, I paid for the more expensive shipping option ($75). USPS lost the mail. Somehow it got sent to Bosnia. Crazy, right? The mail literally went in the opposite direction. Worse yet, since it's been returned to the US, it's treated as an import item so it's been stuck in NY customs for the past MONTH. It's been 1.5 MONTHS since I mailed it out, and it's still stuck in customs ON ITS WAY BACK TO ME. During this time, we actually went back to the consulate and re-notarized the exact same docs. Sending it out this time with Fedex or DHL. I went to the Bayview USPS at 1300 Evans, and they were actually a bit more helpful. They looked at the receipt and said the West Portal office missed some things I was supposed to fill out. For example, I needed to put a dollar value, even if it's $1. Also, I can't just write "documents" in the item description - it needed to be a lot more specific (what the docs are, how many pages, etc). The 1300 Evans office explained that it was on the agent to double check and make sure I filled out the forms correctly. Yeah, no one here did that. I'm not sure if I can trust USPS again. I've been hearing from people about their own horror stories with USPS. Someone's package got sent to SF, then went to Oakland and San Jose, before coming back to SF again... it literally went on a joyride around the Bay Area! But if I MUST use USPS again, I'd probably go to the 1300 Evans branch - they're bigger and way more knowledgeable.

This office doesn't carry any 4 cents or lower denomination stamps that I can use with older stamps to add up to the current 78 cents first class fee. You go in and ask a question and he's lecturing you. Doesn't greet you back after you say "good morning " and doesn't thank you. Why is he even in the front office dealing with customers?
