Literally the worst. Had a passport appointment at 9am where they were supposed to take a picture for us. They called us at 8am and told us their camera didn't work. We rushed to go have the picture taken - successfully- but were now 15 minutes late. Alas, they tell us we now need to reschedule the appointment with our toddler where we both need to be present to have it done. Bloated bureaucracy where they couldn't care any less about customer service. Clearly this is their fault but don't care to make it right. One of the only times you actually need to deal with the federal government and it's exactly what you would expect -- Garbage. Orly I think was the name of the person who was making the issue. This is my local Post Office and I think this is a great one. Let me tell you why: It centrally located, its a new building, plenty of parking, and they have a 24 hr mailing ATM kiosk which I use all the time sometimes even at 11:30pm! When they are open and I need a teller, they all are very helpful and friendly. They also deliver my mail and they do a damn good job. The mail lady that drives the jeep is super cool. US Post Office - Post Offices Near Me - Salem, New Hampshire

Avoid! I've gone a number of times recently and the line is too long to wait. This morning, shortly after opening, 2/27/23, I only had a package that required to be scanned and obtain a receipt for, takes 30seconds, and the line was too long. I went outside and spent about 15 mins pumping up my tire of my car, went back in, and there were only about 4 people in line, but some had packages which probalby had to be weighted, labels created, etc. So I left - and won't be able to mail my package for about another 3 days due to snow/weather coming in. Granted, I could use their package drop off, but the value of the package was quite high and had insurance, and the insurance is only good IF it is scanned in and valid...and it is too chancy to lose thousands of dollars because it didn't get scanned and put into the system and therefore wouldn't have any insurance coverage. :-( Get some help there. One person cannot handle to front desk if there are lots of people. Like living in a 3rd world country now.... read more

0 STARS but it made me put 1. 3 packages were to be delivered to my house w make up. the tracking # led to the USPS site which said held at post office at customer request. I never requested anything held. no delivery was attempted bc people were home and no green slip left. left work early to pick up at post office and the postman refused to even look at the tracking # unless i had a green slip. i asked him if he could go by tracking #and he said, "I'm not looking out back its a mess", followed by, "no green slip you are out of luck". impressive customer service. if i was too lazy to do my job or that rude to a client i would be fired on the spot. oh wait, he works for the town i forgot he can be an asshole w no ramifications, must be nice. fyi i honestly said ok thank you sir and walked away. no energy to waste on that pos. wish i got his name i would post it. the best is Usps site has a ticket to fill out online to get the packages, i spent 20 min 2x explaining what happened and neither ticket would go through the message was try again. i did about 20x until it erased what i wrote. thanks Salem guess i wont ever get the one thing i looked forward to in my shitty life! read more

If I could have given 0 I would have. When I moved to salem in 1992, my neighbor told me to never mail a bill in salem, and never use the US post office in salem. Boy, truer words were never spoken. My first mortgage payment was lost (maybe somewhere else), and I've never walked into the post office in salem where I didn't have to wait, wait, wait. No matter how long the line is, backup is never called. And they take their time and are completely oblivious to the people who are slowly stewing in line. Today there were 11 people in line and the clerk didn't call for help once. I was the 4th person in line and it Took me 50 minutes to finally make it to the clerk. From now on, I'll go back to the post office on Howe st in methuen. Never an issue, and when needed they call for help. read more

Less than zero all around, my crack head mailman loves to leave boxes out in the rain in the middle of the driveway. We will go days without receiving any mail and then we will get our neighbors mail. Customer service inside the post office is horrific except for one guy i wish I could remember his name to exclude him from the rest of the incompetent lazy Salem Post Office hacks. I have NEVER had a good experience when USPS delivers my packages. They either don't deliver it when it says it is expected to arrive, bring it to the wrong address, loose it, or I've watched them throw it on my yard from the truck 2 feet away from the street for anyone to take it! Not to mention their customer service SUCKS. It is so difficult to contact them and the people at the Salem location are very rude and un helpful. read more

It's a post office. Probably more friendly than other USPS. But it's still a post office and all you get from a post office.

There is a woman working at this Post Office who almost goes out of her way to be rude. This was the second time I've dealt with her, and she should not be in a position dealing with the public. I was in the middle of asking a question and she called the next person in line because she couldn't answer my question. And then she continued to complain to the people she was helping that I wanted to speak to someone else. The two men working with her were helpful, but she kept interjecting and wouldn't let me ask them anything else. She is so rude and I will go out of my way to avoid this post office because of her. read more

This post office should be ashamed of itself. We went to get a passport for my daughter (15 years old). The first time we were told they were only open until 3 p for passports. We went back a couple of weeks later at 1:45p. We pulled our daughter out of school so we would get there in plenty of time. A miserable, short, older man refused to process the passport. He told us, and the whole lobby, that they were too busy. They had 4 people behind the counter and the line was not very long. A lovely women in line told us to go to Dracut because they were great there so instead of making a scene, we went to Dracut. When we got back to Salem to pick up the extra car and went back into the post office, a female postal worker was processing other people's passports!!!!! read more

Nice people, but don't use for packages other than books. My boxes arrived cut open and smashed.

What I have observed at this post office is pathetic. Some, not all, employees are cranky, rude and they are not helpful at all to customers. I brought in a package once for something I sold on eBay and the postage wasn't enough and when I asked if I could buy new postage they turned me away and told me to go re-do it at home. I've watched other customers, while standing in line, ask questions to be talked down to like they are the scum of the earth for asking such a "stupid" question. I've also heard horror story about people trying to get their passports here from friends and immediate family members. Today in line I watched a woman fill out the passport form only to be told when she was done that it had to be in black ink instead of blue ink from the black cased pen attached to the desk. I watched her look so defeated and whisper to the person she was with "why didn't they tell me when they gave me the form?" I also watched, at around 10 am, one of the employees call out for anyone getting a passport to step up. Literally 2 minutes had gone by, I was texting and noticed the time. A family walked in and was told they just did last call on passports and they had to try again another day. You are open for a few more hours, help people! Absolutely pathetic. read more
