This is an update to my early reviews. What's fair is fair. After nine years of disappointing…read moreservice, the post office seems to be getting their act together in my neighborhood. I still have the occasional mail meant for my neighbor, but for the most part, my packages are arriving in tact and dry. I love the daily ALERTS.

Post Office in Highland doesn't answer their phone. They had a package that was supposed to be…read moresent to the New Paltz Post office. This package is lost because no delivery or updates as to where the package is for days.

As far as USPS goes, this one isn't all bad. It's a bit out of town, limited parking, trucks…read moreturning around and idling and it can get busy - but the staff is cordial and professional helping old ladies and young bucks, all in one line. The postal boxes are clean.. there's a table to do your mail business and work. Trash bins. Pens. Scissors. Pamphlets and all the mailers you can shake a roll of stamps at. Double doors make this location a quick alternative to other slow poke places where the line is out the door. Another bonus is that this USPS building is at the crossroads of major thru highways and roads. That way managing things you may have forgotten to mail or need to go home to fetch and send out, is a half-way back trip only. Never had an issue. Quick turn around, delivery and pick up, while the little delivery trucks putz about behind the building. Love that American Flag out front!! Rebel review: 5

I don't know what everyone is complaining about. I use the PO a lot and unfortunately have a lot of…read moreexperience with NYC ones that are more tests of ones mental stability rather than a postal service. Now THIS place is a totally different story!!! I've never waited on line with more than a few other people and that line has always moved quickly. The people at the counter are always friendly and helpful to an extent that is startling based on my past PO experiences. You need to do something weird with an address change? They write down the name of the gentleman to talk to and give you the address of his office and wish you luck. You can't beat that. I don't see the Mansion st office on here to review but that's even better! Seriously I want to hang out in there. Everyone is so friendly and helpful there and the building is one of those epic WPA post offices where you can't stop touching all the beautiful marble. Come to think of it our postal delivery people have always been wonderful as well. Who knows what the Poughkeepsie post office is pumping into the air to keep their staff so friendly and helpful but keep it going!!

The Hyde Park Post office is a combination of both history and function. It is a beautiful stone…read morebuilding built around 1940, in a Dutch Colonial Revival style. FDR took an interest in the construction of this building, and his name is on the cornerstone. It has been listed on the National Registrar of Historic Places since 1988. I has been expanded and renovated several times. It also functions quite well as a post office. The employees are incredibly helpful and always cheerful. There can, unfortunately, be a bit of a wait at busy times, because their window can only handle 2 customers at a time. But they have handled this nicely at times, such as offering expanded hours in December. I don't have a P.O. Box here, but my assumption is that they are also limited here in the number of boxes available, and there may be a wait requesting one. This post office requires you to make an appointment for a passport application or renewal.

I was very surprised that how many people came in to use the post office in this tiny little town. The service I requested was getting my bereavement gift to our family abroad in the most cost-efficient and fastest method possible. Nick was able to assist me in saving approximately $50 just by using a standard box instead of the white boxes marked priority mail. The travel time between accord New York and Tokyo Japan will be about the same give or take one day so saving 40 or $50 was well worth it. My beef is with the driver who decided he would rather not deliver this small package, and so he or she marked it as not delivered because there was "no access" to the delivery location. This was simply a bald faced lie, as it easily fits in our roadside mailbox (where indeed it was delivered the next business day). In fact, earlier the same day the USPS dropped off a couple of packages on our porch. So much for "no access." We have no moat and drawbridge on our driveway. When we called the post office to report that the driver had simply lied about the reason for not delivering that package, we were told it was not the usual driver and to call back the next day. I don't understand why only the "usual driver" can stuff a small package in a large roadside mailbox. The frustration is knowing that this mendacious driver will suffer no consequences for the substantial inconvenience this caused us. I would like to think that someone at that organization cares, but I have no illusions.

He is utterly respectful and professional while he goes out of his way to help.
