Terrible customer service and no where near the amount of staff needed to run a business. The actual post office was ok but the fact that no one called me back and there was no one to talk to was very annoying. I run a business and needed to talk to someone. The associate was impatient and did not give me time to closely measure the prints, and the ruler they gave me to verify the photo measurements was beat up and inaccurate. Any move to a new city is stressful, but hiring movers should make that process easier rather than more difficult. My move from start to finish was riddled with mistakes, some minor and some major, and it made my move from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia all the more stressful. Allegheny Valley Transfer (AVT; via Allied) was unprofessional, unable to communicate (with me or to each other), and unwilling to make things right when they made mistakes. The following is a detailed account of what happened. I first called Allied and explained to them that I lived in a 3-bedroom house but had roommates and the move would be one of the three bedrooms, that I had very little in the way of common area furniture and any of the things I had in the common areas were minimal and could be put in about 5 boxes max. They said great, they'd have people come to estimate what the cost would be, and we set up an appointment. The estimators come, and they seem surprised because they have been told that it was 3-bedroom house but none of the other details (Mistake 1). But otherwise, it's fine, they carry on and I point out all of things that are mine that I'm taking with me. I tell them I want all the bells and whistles: I want them to pack my things, I want them to move my things, I want them to unpack my things. The estimators also say great, and tell me that I don't even have to take things out of my drawers, they'll take care of all of that. The only thing I have to do is keep the things that are mine in the common area in one space so that it'll be easier for them to distinguish between what stuff is mine versus my roommates. Reasonable, of course, and I think great, that's what I want. They give me an estimate. They send me the paperwork the next day and ask when I want them to pick up my things, when I say, well how long will it take to be delivered? They say, ok tell us a range of days you want it to be delivered and we'll tell you when it should be picked up. I tell them Mon, June 19 - Wed, June 21. They say, we can do a 5-day spread instead, so Mon, June 19 - Fri, June 23. I say that's fine, and they say they'll pick up Thurs, June 15. Perfect, I say, and I book my flight accordingly (originally planned on Sunday night but decided Saturday night based on price). Two days before they're supposed to pick up my stuff, I realize there's no time window for pick-up, so I call and ask and they say they'll have the movers call me closer to then, but that the earliest it would be is 12pm because they have other pick-ups that day. Ok, that's a pretty big window but fine. They never called, but the night before my move, I stayed up late putting together some of my things from the common areas and planned to get up and do a couple more hours of work before the movers arrived. The next morning I woke up at 8:50am to pounding on my door. They were over 3 hours early from the earliest time they estimated (Mistake 2). Turns out they were also never told about packing my things so they had to scrounge up any boxes they had in the truck (Mistake 3) -- thankfully, I did not have much stuff for them to pack, but they moved incredibly slowly, at one point one of them even took a 10 minute phone call followed by a bathroom break (Mistake 4). Because a 5-day spread is a long time, I figured the movers would have a better idea of when they'd arrive by now, so I asked: Do you have a better idea of when I'll receive my stuff? Yes, they say, SATURDAY, June 17 in the morning (Huge Mistake 5)!! I had already booked my flight and my new apartment did not do weekend moves (issues with freight elevators etc.). By this point, I am livid, but after a ton of hassle and back and forth with my apartment building and AVT, I had to change my flight at my own cost so that I could arrive by the time the movers would; otherwise, I would have to wait 2 more weeks to get my stuff! AVT was unapologetic and even unwilling to provide any discounts for the major inconvenience. Finally, I got the apartment building to ok a 4-5pm freight elevator time, and I called both AVT and the actual movers to make sure they would make it at that time. When I arrived in Philadelphia, I cleaned my place then went to Target, planning to buy some things before the movers arrived in a few hours. They arrived WITHOUT NOTICE at 1:20pm, expecting to be let in (Mistake 6). By the end of it, I was so fed up that I did not even point out that they were also supposed to unpack for me (Mistake 7). Also, it's been a week and a half and I have yet to receive a receipt (though I know my credit card was charged) and I have yet to receive a claims form (Mistakes 8 and 9), which I need because they broke my mirror frame (ha, Mistake 10). My entire experience with Allegheny Valley Transfer was miserable, and I wouldn't wish that on anyone. Beware.

They put part of it in a paper bag but left 2 chunks completely uncovered and loose. I work with dry ice frequently so I have gloves on hand but there was no way for him to know that. Horrible customer service and extremely dangerous. They went to cash me out. The younger of the two had a huge grin as he gave me my change but I didn't think twice about it at the time. The cash was tri-folded and I quickly checked my change through the unfolded corner and went on my way. When I got home and went to put the cash in my wallet I knew what the grin was about. My change was three $5 bills and a $10 - in between two of the $5 and the $10 was a $5 that had a huge chunk missing - they sandwiched it in purposely hoping I wouldn't see it.
