One day a week for 1 hour they do passports. Appointments booked out months in advance. What a joke.

So far no one has been able to be of any assistance with my son's passport. We applied on 3/15 and were told that our processing time was 8 to 11 weeks. It didn't go into processing status until 3/21.I have called multiple times and spent over 6 hours on hold to the 877 phone number, gave my credit card for expedited processing when we were within 14 days of travel, a​nd nothing has changed. I am reached out to Congressman Joe Wilson and Senator Tim Scott via fax today and I'm going in person to their offices on Monday if no one here can help. read more

I've had 4 packages stolen from the delivery personnel from this location. Over $1000 total in packages stolen it's disgusting. They pretend to deliver the packages to the parcel lockers but they keep the box and never put it in the locker. They were even caught on camera smh. They know who they are. They need to be fired immediately. read more

The United States Postal Service location on Cross County Road in North Charleston is one of my favorite post offices in the area to go to when I need to mail something. The staff here is very friendly and efficient at keeping everything moving and helping you take care of everything that you need. I have had a really positive experience every time I have been here and know that they will be able to help me with what I need. read more

Eh, still not great but they seem to have gotten some new employees which helps. Hopefully they are permanent and not just for the holiday season. Having gone in a few times during the "holiday rush" (week before Christmas), I was expecting it to have the long line (it did) and to be out of most of the materials for priority mail (it was). I had to wait in line to ask for materials because just walking up to the counter is the worst thing you can possibly do apparently. Even the patrons get upset at you. I'm not cutting you guys in line... I really just need a medium size box and a label that were not available at the three locations within the post office. They just aren't organized very well. Passport people have an area to wait in, but area always just standing around in the area where people are trying to get assistance with mailing. They have no sense of urgency with anything, some of the staff is rude, it's always a mess. I usually only go to this location if I can use their automated machine for what I'm trying to do. Understaffed. Inefficient. Typical Government workers. No wonder the Post Office loses money it's completely inefficient. This place is an disgrace to Charleston and our country. Passport says 10-2 but it's first come first serve so make sure to get their by 9am!!!! Make an appointment and Go elsewhere to get your passport!!! If I had an arm like Nolan Ryan, I'd be a guy, but I could also probably hit this post office with a rock I live so close by. I'm here all the time so the clerks recognize me. If you don't like standing in line don't go on Saturday's or prime times during the day. The machine out front is a pain bc it doesn't take cash so when I just need a stamp I have to either use my card to get a book or stand in line just to get one. read more

Oh boy are some of these individuals who work here very rude and unwilling to help you. The woman I worked with today, Sandra, was extremely rude and short with me while working with her to pay the postage for a large package going overseas to a military base. She was inputting the dimensions incorrectly and giving me price quotes that were higher than given online when I filled out and printed the customs forms. Also, rather than politely asking me to write the address on the box (even though the forms I printed had the address and were going to be attached) She told me in a very passive aggressive manner. I also had a prepaid package to drop off but it needed to be sealed and taped. I asked if I needed to step behind me to the center to use the tape on the table to close my package before handing it to her. She said yes so I stepped to the table and taped my package and attached my label. When I stepped back to her she then informed me the tape I used was wrong, even though I specifically asked. The entire process took longer than it should have and overall she was not personable. I will not go to this location again. read more

This place is ridiculous, and they are the only post office that does passports. What the heck! Then they open at 9am, but do not actually take any passport customers until there is no line for regular post office business which means that you sit for about an hour before the do a briefing then start taking passport customers. The room for passports was completely full with people in the hallways spilled out into the entrance way. This makes no sense and there has to be a better way to handle this. They could alot one person to do passports even though there is a line. It makes me feel as if my time or my business is not as important as picking up or mailing a package. I will say that once they started taking people the did put 2 people to do the passports and they moved pretty quickly, but i feel the waiting game they make you play is a little extreme. read more

I suppose it's not a huge surprise that I had a bad experience at a post office, but I wanted to write this review to add to what previous reviewers said about the passport application process. If you are like most people in the modern era you probably google 'passport application' and go online and fill out the paperwork. Maybe you even upload your own picture and print it at home. But, you still have to turn the paperwork into an official acceptance office. So you find your local office and see that it processes passports from 10am-2pm M-F. So you arrange time off work, or maybe even take kids out of school and take your paperwork in. Only then do you find out how the process works.... People arrive well before 9am and line up in the lobby. When the doors open at 9, someone shows you the sign up list and the first 40 or so people get service that day. The list also has rules. The first group of people to sign in get 'immediate' service. Further down the list they estimate 11:30am service, then 1:30pm, then finally 2:30pm. However, you are not allowed to sign up for a later time if it's more convenient for you. You must sign up in order and not skip around. If you try to question this process, plan to be treated like a middle school student breaking a rule. I guess our tax dollars aren't enough to buy friendly service. So if you need a passport, just plan on spending your entire morning at the post office. I'm sure this worked fine back in the 1980s and people accepted it. But it's 2017, surely we can figure out something better. At very least the website needs to correctly inform people about this complicated process and rules. read more

I check online to look for a place to process passports. This is one of the few places in Charleston that accepts walk-in. I'm not sure what time they open but I came in about 12pm on a weekday. Thinking I was going to be able to process my passports for my children. NOPE. They told me that they open passport processing when they open and only help the first 30 people on the waiting list. They said the list was full by 10 30 am. WOW. There was probably about 20 different set of people waiting in the lobby to process their paper work. NO WAY. i'm not spending half my day waiting around for people to do their job. I called the USPS appointment line to get an appointment for passports. I went to the office off ladson & Dorchester. Although I did have to wait a week for the APPT. I was the only one there and walk right in filed my papers and left 15 mins. My best bet need a past port make sure you get an Appointment. My husband had to mail a package this week. He had a prepaid USPS postage from a company. I knew that he went over on weight because of the news papers we used to wrap the item. So I told him he had to pay the difference. The man who helped him was SOOOO RUDE. He said that he needed to see the amount the company paid. That we needed to contact the company to get how much they paid. So my husband had to get out of line and check the slip. He got back in line and a lady helped him and punched in the NUMBERS on the Prepaid postage on the box....WALA!!! the information was there. I think that other man was lazy. HE HATES his job give it to someone else who wants it. If your going to this office Avoid that gentleman at the counter. Worst SERVICE EVER!!! read more

I've had ongoing issues with this post office for 15 years. They've stopped my mail a couple of times. Declared my house vacant (lawn mowed, house immaculate, mail checked... so no reason). Yesterday however beats everything. I have a package delivered with a tracking number at 10:40 a.m. I get the notification. When I get home last night there is nothing in the mailbox! I check my security camera and the package is delivered at 10:40 a.m. and at 5:41 p.m. another postal worker comes and takes it out of my box!!! I am so dumbfounded. So now for the hundredth time I have to call and go down there. SMH!!! read more

Passport office is a joke. Only the government can require you to have something and then make it impossible to get. This may be worse than the DMV. The hours are 10-2pm and they have a paper sign up saying they close from 12-1pm for lunch. They say they accept walk ins. I signed in at 10:30 and they are closing for an hour with a packed lobby. Any normal business that had a 2 star rating would have closed doors by now. read more

Drove there from summerville because the summerville post office no longer handles passport applications for some reason. I was told by a summerville post office worker, the cross county office opened at 10am. When my husband and I got to this location we were told the passport applications had to be turned in by 9am (really???) and that only the first 50 would be accepted. I guess they only have 1.5 people processing these things, including the extremely rude lady that told us we couldn't be helped here. The USPS in general seems to have the hardest time doing most things they're supposed to be able to do. I don't know what the government was thinking giving extra responsibilities to this branch. They can NOT handle it. I don't know if they only hire incompetent lazy people, or if they're understaffed, but people like me who work for a living do not have time to hang out at the post office all day. Update: definitely won't return to this location seeing as reviews coming in are pretty consistent in saying it's still quite awful, but the good news is that the Goose Creek location is fantastic! Not only are they friendly and competent, they are FAST! We made an appointment just in case, but it turns out it was unnecessary. We were in and out for passport services in less than 10 minutes. For that level of service, it's worth the drive. Go there instead! read more

My husband went to this location after a package of ours has been lost, going coast to coast. Tracking showed this as it's last location. The wait time was less then 5 minutes and both the manager (female) and front desk man, both searched their warehouse and helped us figure out where the package was. read more

It can sometimes be hard to coordinate with the post office because they are so large, and it's difficult to find the right person to talk to. After going through multiple phone calls and emails, finally got in touch with the branch manager and after a very short time had the resolution to our problem figured out, and the work was completed in a very timely fashion. Really?! You're open for only 2 hrs on a Saturday morning and you still managed to open late. And only 2 windows are open with 2 of the slowest personnel. No separate window for just pick ups?! It's been 22 minutes and maybe 5 or 6 ppl have made it thru thus far. And there's still a line out the door. So efficient :-/. And I saw a separate personnel out the window walking his little black dog for 10 minutes. So if you use a padded envelope for pictures it's a parcel and not a large envelope?! Anything to charge you more. As broke as the post office is you would think they could be a little more pleasant to work with. The clerk literally told me to "make it snappy" when I had to run tot the car to get more money because he was charging me so much! The first question j asked was if I could use all the stamps I had to pay for the envelope to be mailed. This has to be the worst postal experience in my life. The first time my package was deemed "undeliverable" for a simple N not being to fit on the label for Charleston. The second time a note was left stating my package will be put in the parcel locker or left at the leasing office. I tracked my package and it was being returned to sender due to "vacancy". I came to the Post Office to receive a refund for a rush order that was suppose to be delivered on a certain date at a certain time. The package was delivered past the time and at the wrong address. I basically spent 23.38 for next day guaranteed delivery. Lara was my clerk that assisting and she was the nastiest person that I have ever dealt with. She refuse to be polite and would not place my paperwork back in my hand. Lara basically taunted me with snarky comments and refused to give me a refund because false information that was placed in the computer. Then Lara stated that she needed a manager. She placed my paperwork on the counter and not back in my hand. I politely advised her that when someone places anything in your hand, it is common courtesy to return it how it was given. Lara replied it is our policy to place paperwork on the counter and not in your hand. I'd hate to think that she treated me that way that because I am black because the previous customer was white and she placed everything in his hand. Thank Lara for your customer service. read more

Wish I could give them no stars or minus stars! Here is the deal with these incompetent postal workers. Had a very important overnight Express Mail (EM) envelope to send to Florida. Carrier picked it up early Thursday afternoon. It arrived at the 29418 post office and left the post office at 7:19PM enroute to the sort facility at 29423 which I understand is on Rivers Ave. Leaves at 7:19PM does NOT arrive until 9:17PM? Really, takes two hours to go only a few miles? When it arrived it missed the truck going to Columbia, SC so it sat in the sort facility without any updates to the USPS tracking system. It still showed delivery on Friday by 3:00PM. Check and contract were in the envelope. Not knowing what is going on or if the envelope is lost, I sent another envelope via FedEx to arrive Monday because the business was closed on Saturday. Monday morning the FedEx envelope arrived at 9:08AM. After I ship the FedEx envelope the EM envelope shows up again, this time it is in Columbia SC on the way to Florida. Arrives Saturday morning at the delivery post office in Florida and shows "business closed, will receiver on next business day". Called the delivery post office this morning (Monday) to see if they will deliver it immediately but you can't rush incompetence! They will deliver when they get there maybe before 11AM? Then the USPS wonders why they lose money? Start hiring workers and managers who care! read more

When I checked into this post office my first time it was about a mos ago to apply for my passport. I have never really felt the urgency for it until these past few years when I first moved to Sc and since I have a growing number of friends that travel or live outside of the country and have given me invites to come vacation with them. Prior to applying for my passport I had alot trouble because I'm originally from New York. I was born in Manhattan NYC so the process to obtain a copy of my birth certificate took nearly a year before I finally got it. Up to this point the Sc dmv gave me trouble when trying to obtain a Sc drivers license they couldn't just trade my New York License in like use to instead the Dmv needed proof of residency an the whole works which made me feel agrivated and unwelcomed. I was at my breaking point. In all my years I had never been treated as if I was not a U.S citizen. As a matter of fact I've lived in America all my life so I found it extremely insulting to be treated this way from the Dmv so I decided due to the times we live in maybe it's important to apply for my passport. This post office was very professional and helpful they checked me in at 8:30a and took care of me at 9a. The wait was not bad and I couldn't have been more happier after I paid $135.00 for the passport application process it took less than 6 weeks to receive in the mail. I was very excited to get my passport! Now I feel more secure. I am excited for my future travels outside the country. read more

They have the worst customer service. They are so rude and you can tell they hate there jobs. My overnight package has been in Charleston for 2 days but, I still haven't recovered it. When I call to figure out what is going on. They get mad at me like I am ruining there day. I just would like to come pick up my package. I don't think I will ever use USPS again. read more
