Visited the post office today to accept a certified letter, and to my surprise, it wasn't crowded. The line was short, and I was able to reactivate my PO Box for six months. Customer service was great and the staff were friendly. My only concern is the process: only one person can handle PO Box reactivations, which is challenging for those with full-time jobs especially since that employee doesn't work weekends. It would also be nice to have a post office closer to Cane Bay instead of having to choose between this location, Moncks Corner, or Goose Creek. Overall, service was good, but the process could be smoother. read more

At first I thought I must have entered a third world country when I pulled up to the parking lot... rather what is left of it during the construction. As I approached the doors and began to enter the building, I immediately saw the line of at least 50-60 people standing in front of me. Sorry kiddos. Never again. I love and adore the Summerville, SC Post Office...said no one, ever. Mailed a check (from Goose Creek) to a business in Summerville on April 22 and they never received it. It was not returned to me. Who knows what happened to it. I mailed a second check to them six days ago. They have not received that one. I called the business and they told me to wait another couple of days, it's normal for it to take seven days to get the mail through. I'm happy the business is VERY understanding. the workers are nice but overworked. no one answers the phone. there is always a line out the door. prepare to spend atleast 20 minute. I've spent way more time in line than that. I always put off going to the post office. It's such a chore and usually not the most pleasant thing. I arrived a few minutes prior to their opening time, and saw some folks walking in. I entered and was surprised to see they now have a self service center, complete with a small stock of flat rate mailers and boxes. Unfortunately I needed some other supplies so wasn't able to use that and can't speak to how friendly it is. But Davonne was super helpful. She helped me select the most cost effective shipments and was very pleasant. I was in and out in less than 15 minutes. Although a previous reviewer was right, it's an old building and not much to look at, I'll definitely be returning to this location due to great service and ease of getting in and out. read more

I cant Thank the Staff of the Dorechester USPS near Ladson Road, I cant believe that human caring human beings are still out there, with some of the highly publicized ills of this society, God and man proved me wrong, as I fell ill on Friday during buzy time, not 1 but 3 nurses were in line, and all 3 were so great, calling EMT's and they were super, young medical team that came, and to top it off, the staff assisted me in getting home. When was the last time the UPSA delivered an 82 year old sick lady one, helped with getting grociers out of car as Sat is my shop and 1 post office between Fri and Sat. and I go to them all. We are a family of postal employees and loves the usps and the opportunity they offer so many folks, Again Thank you to the staff of Mr. Ryan , 300 N. Gun Street. Charleston SC. This post office is the most incompetent excuse for postal service. It is ok to have a few mistakes but to continually be this irresponsible really takes a consorted effort! Why would you leave a package sitting for two weeks when it was supposed to be forwarded and then forward it to a completely random address that had no connection what so ever to the recipient or sender?! 11:30 am on a Tuesday morning standing in line with about 20 people ahead of me. Waited in line for half an hour and still 15 people ahead of me and about a dozen people behind me and the line isn't moving. It looks like only one attendant at the counter, although he or she isn't there now and I haven't seen anyone working the counter the last 10 minutes. No wonder the line isn't moving!! The parcel bin in the hallway is full, so people are just stacking up there boxes w/ prepaid labels next to it. The bin for these parcels inside the glassed in area is full and stacked up to the ceiling! I'm almost to the glass door to get inside, but the line isn't moving. As I stand there waiting, I notice the glass is all smeared with who knows what but very disgusting. Doesn't look like anyone cleans the place. Been in line for 30 minutes and at this rate It will be another hour. (Since I've been standing here a bunch of people have entered, looked at the line and just left.) Finally I gave up and left, too. Someone needs to get there sh** together.... Is anyone in charge here or are they all sleeping in the back room? read more

If you get the right employee here, you'll have a good experience. If you get the wrong employee, you may walk away a bit unhappy. For the most part, for a government office, I have walked away from my experience untroubled. The lobby is huge. The store itself is too small and often customers are out the door, which makes the waiting area a little warm. The parking lot is quite large and well maintained. read more

It is 11:30 AM on Tuesday Dec. 18 and I have tried unsuccessfully to reach the Gum St, Post Office. I continue to get a recording that tells me to call back during regular business hours after 9 AM. Someone needs to fix your recording since it is now 11:30 AM. I'm very upset with the pickup yesterday. I put my Christmas cards (with the flag up)out yesterday at 1 PM and upon checking this morning my cards have not been picked up. Our mail pickup has been running 6 PM or later and there was no excuse that my cards were not picked up. First of all you need to FIX your recording and have the postman pick the mail up when the flag is up. Your customer service in these two areas are in dire need of improvement. This location is one of the best in the Summerville area. I can usually get in and out of this location in 5-10 minutes which is amazing for a USPS. When there is a line up they always call for more staff to serve customers. There is lots of parking at this location which is also helpful. They always have supplies on hand and their card selection is great. In addition they always have some nice range of stamps and first day covers for stamp collectors. Their is a passport office at this location, but I can't review that service as I've never used it. read more

Not only can you expect to wait extra long for the simplest service, their carriers can't deliver packages properly and they refuse to honor their "guaranteed on time or your money back" false promise for their Express mailing. I love the Summerville Post Office and have used it since 1975 when I moved to Summerville. There are sometimes long lines, especially at this time of year (holiday season). I really like Jane and always try to wait till she is free to make my stamp purchases. I am aware that the Post Office has a heavy burden having to pay all kinds of up-front pension money. Terrible delivery service. The residents in my community often get other peoples' mail due to improper delivery. It happened to me two days in a row this week alone. The post office was contacted about this months ago and promises were made, but none have been kept. People aren't receiving their prescriptions, bills, etc. This is totally unacceptable. This location has a line but is usually fairly quick. If you need help with a package they are good about helping as long as you have the right employee. If you have Renee wait for someone else. I repeat do not try to have her help with a package. She seems helpful and will say she is going to take care of it but does not. Then when I had to go back in the employees ask who was helping you and when you sag Renee they say that was your first problem.
