This is the best USPS in the area. The staff are very friendly and know what they're doing.

Whilst downtown running errands, I popped into the USPS on East Bay, with trepidation, I might add, because I thought it would be thronged with customers. I was wrong. I was attended to immediately with no wait. This Post Office has tons of Parking right outside the door and just off of East Bay Street. The place is big with lots of Personal boxes inside to pick up your mail. They have a separate area inside to deal with Passports and several customer counters for postage. The staff are efficient and friendly. The whole experience took at most ten minutes. Highly recommend this facility. read more

Not usually one to leave reviews but the exceptional service we received today must be applauded. My boyfriend and I were waiting for our mail-in ballots to arrive, and we had not yet received them the night before Election Day we stopped by the post office to check in. The kind woman working the front desk called our mail carrier and had her drive back to the office to ensure we could receive our ballots and postmark them by 5pm. They truly went above and beyond and we are so appreciative of the incredible service! Five stars. read more

I made an appointment with my family to come here yesterday to start the process of obtaining our passports. We arrived a few minutes early and were helped immediately. The gentleman helping us was very friendly and conversational. Although we tried to take our photos from home before arriving, the background didn't meet their requirements. However, he offered to take pictures in the post office at no charge, because we had attempted to do it prior to our appointment. The entire process, for the four of us, lasted about fifteen minutes. The United States Post Office on East Bay Street in Charleston is one of my favorite post offices in the area. It is very convenient and easy to access and get in and out of when you are in the area and need to take care of your postal needs. There always seems to be plenty of good parking available and they have excellent customer service. I have had a really positive experience every time I have been through here. read more

My package was lost after my local UPS Delivery Personal scanned my package a block away from my residence (confirmed by USPS as the last location) and then did not actually deliver the package. Yet, online they marked the package as 'Delivered In/At Mailbox'. I was told by Trent, at the East Bay Street location in Charleston, that since I purchased no additional insurance on the package that it was not USPS' fault... So basically, paying USPS for a service means absolutely nothing. They will only care about getting you your package if it has insurance where they can be held liable. read more

I am in absolute disbelief at how f*cking incompetent this establishment. I had my package put in the wrong parcel locker at my apartment complex, I get it, things happen. No big deal... after a week of going back and forth with the extremely rude employee I was dealing with, the last phone call ended with "you gotta call amazon to reorder it" before hanging up on me. This week I needed to ship a package back with a prepaid label and the postman wouldn't take it because, and I quote "the package need to be paid for, well only take it for free if it's in a box." THE PACKAGE WAS PREPAID IN A BOX! I can't believe how rude and moronic you people are. You're a pathetic excuse for a "post office" 1 star is too much for UPDATE I've had EVERY SINGLE delivery for the past 6 deliveries fail. I've essentially wasted over $100 in expedited shipping because they're SO incompetent and unbelievably rude. This place should be shut down. read more

Decided that I'd finally stop into the post office to mail my extremely late Christmas present to me extremely impatient mother. Got in just minutes before the office closed and thankfully the ladies were kind enough to let me prepare my packages and send it out. Which was perfect seeing that I've been putting it off for a few weeks.. Everything was nicely laid out for us when we got there and we even were able to grab a card for the pops so he didn't feel like we were playing favorites. I will say bring a pen, all the pens seemed to have grown legs and walked out of the post office. The ladies were super nice and even caught a mistake on the address I was sending to, catastrophe diverted. All in all a good errand run on a fine Saturday morning! read more

First off, I went to this branch because it is one of 2 local offices that do Passports. But if you want to apply for a new one this place is probably not for you. I only found out by stopping by and you can make an appointment which next available is in January. Yuck. Thankfully I was trying to renew one quickly for a trip to Tortolla and then Cuba and needed some help. A very nice lady helped me from start to finish taking photos and then guiding me through the rest of it. I mailed off the application and now feel like I will actually get it back in time for my trip(pray for me). So for renewing 4 star. If trying to get a new one go to Cross County Road Branch in North Charleston unless you are not in any hurry. read more

This is a great looking Post Office builidng in Charleston's Historic District. It's a great place to mail postcards and souvenirs back home. The lines move pretty fast, and the clerks are low key, pleasant and business-like. You can get a passport here with an appointment. read more

The employees at this post office are nice enough and are far away from the worst government employees I have experienced. With that being said Nicole P. hit the nail on the head when she said that there is always a line at this place. Morning or afternoon, rain or shine, there is always a line. It's unexplainable and I am at a loss for words. So, you will be treated nice but you will have to wait, you can count on that. read more

The reason that there's always a line at this post office is that the main post office on Broad St. is only open from 10:30 to 3:30... Nice hours for the workers but terrible for the city of Charleston that it's supposed to serve! read more

Warning for dog owners: my french bulldog and I live in downtown Charleston. We happened to be walking outside today when the mailman, a white-haired man with glasses, was walking up to my door. My dog saw him and started barking to which the mailman proceeded to immediately pepper spray him. I was too distracted and taken aback by the mailman falling over my trashcan, knocking it into the street, and then running away screaming "F*&% THAT" to his van to realize what had just happened. I patiently waited for him to then finish talking to some woman on the street for him to get my mail, since he was obviously not going to come back to my house. He finally found it, smiled and thanked me. I went back inside to realize my dog was going nuts, his eyes wouldn't open, and a wart on his face had opened up and was bleeding (no it was not the orange from the pepper spray, it was blood). I went back outside to ask him if he sprayed my dog, which he nonchalantly replied "of course! I spray any dog I see not on a leash." and whipped out his pepper spray bottle (To which I told him to grow a pair, for responding that way to a 20 pound bulldog the size of a football). The employee at the East Bay office I called to speak with about this gave me a lecture on how you never know what a dog is going to do and he has every right to spray him. She then proceeded to tell me how I should be cited for not having my dog on a leash (right outside my house), as this is VERY ILLEGAL, and how my conduct towards him (telling him to grow a pair), was also very inappropriate and also citeable. Thank you, US Postal Service at East Bay, for your complete lack of empathy and harm done to both my dog and myself. I am still covered in pepper spray (as I wasn't told what had happened and therefore didn't realize upon first tending to my dog), and my dog's cornea is damaged (which I know after a $115 visit to the vet). read more
