Drivers lost my package, couldn't retrieve it, and then told me I got to file claims and refunds with out assistance and maybe I will get refund. Claims do not work on mobile device(error code) so the local post office said go to a library or use somebody else computer. Customer support and technical support are useless. They will keep redirecting you until the automated machine times out and hangs up on you. Never ordering an item going through USPS ever again. UPS and Amazon are both better choices for CT. read more

They do not answer their telephone, period, ever. They're the only location in Connecticut that does fingerprinting, but their online hours for this service are incorrect. You have to just drive there and cross your fingers, which hasn't worked out for me yet, +1 hour drive each way. The front desk staff do not care about answering the phone, providing useful information, or anything it seems. Their response to any and all questions are idk and look at the next customer in line as if to say "walk away now lady", when I was inquiring about the hours of their fingerprinting. The people that work here are nice, but we made an appointment for a passport and were told that the passport person was not there on Saturdays. When we made the appointment, the website did not inform us of this! They told us that all other post offices should do walk-ins, so we tried another one that they specifically recommended for us. My wife and I went to this Post Office because it controls the monies for the Post Office boxes located on Chapel Street across from Elm City Market. If one wants to cancel their PO Box, they must go to Brewery Street. Here's the catch: to get your deposit back on your PO Box key and/or the time left on your term (no less than one-half of your term), one must fill out a form. Once they have the form, the Post Office will issue a Money Order for the exact amount which the Post Office then cashes, and then hands you the cash. The problem: the Post Office is the entity supplying the Money Orders and when they don't have any (which is the usual case) you cannot get paid. We were told, try coming back in a couple of weeks. Since Yale Station never has any Money Orders either (not that that helps us here) no Money Orders seems to be SOP. read more

I received a certified letter on Monday July 18th. It was left in my mailbox which I did not sign for. The mailman never knocked on my door to have me sign for it. I called my payroll company to let them know that I did not sign for it and it was left in my mailbox. Was the mail carrier afraid to pull up to my house and walk to my door in the rain?? It is against the law for a mail carrier to sign for your letter or package if it is certified mail. I will be reporting this to the fraud company. The horrible brown skinned woman who wears broom bristles as eye lashes, plays loud music, cuts her eyes at customers and shoots them dirty looks upon entry is a disgrace to the USPS!!! She is an unprofessional horror and extremely unpleasant, as she makes sublimal comments about customers in earshot distance. Why does the post office conduct postal services and passport services at the same windows? This process causes long lines and frustration. Clerks are always friendly, and it helps since by the time you get to the window your feet hurt, and crankiness takes over your mind. It would help if there were a Passports only counter separate from postal services. Let's hope for some improvements as the holiday season approaches. read more

I was very surprised that given the location of this PO it wasn't far more populated...this PO is one of the main hubs in the state and I have to say, personnel there was very pleasant. We all hate standing in line, low qualified stuff, and customer service etc. And you won't avoid it here by default, because these are normal practices of USPS projected from their ultra low cost (reads as "cheap") policies. Employment conditions, work conditions, lack of quality training and general abscence of motivation do not promise decent customer experience, that's simple and I wouldn't be a realist expecting any better. So, why 4 stars? Here is why: 1. Location. 5 minutes from downtown New Haven, easy access by car, free parking. Bad public transportation access. It brings 4/5 for location. 2. Space and design. Design is OK, USPS did a decent job with rebranding. Space is roomy and generally clean. Some parts are worn, but no ugliness or noticeable dirt. No comfort. Overall 3.5/5. 3. Quality of product/service. I had no problem with delivery or sending packages from here. International shipping with EMS works fine. Shipping supplies quality is really high. Domestic Priority delivery is very good. Speed of delivery could sometimes be better, but even in economy class It is just fine. Reliability of this office is good, but one I got an issue with recipients USPS PO (damaged pakage). Yet it wascovetedby insurance. My personal favourites are 24h machine and self-service kiosk, which saved me tons of day time on after hours drop-off. Overall 4/5 here. 4. Value. It is the cheapest shipping and post service in US for small and medium sized packages. I use other providers for heavy or bulky packages, because they are more convenient. 5 4.5/5 here. Custoner service. They do have all sorts of issues. However, simple kindness, politeness and clear requests preserve me from facing most of them. 3/5 Overall 4/5. read more

The best experience I have ever had at a post office! Plenty of parking outside and when I went in the line wasn't that long. I was there to renew my passport and the post office lady was so helpful. Came in to get mail on hold. Attendee at the kiosk was very loud and rude asking why I have my mail on hold as if it mattered. Only to call a supervisor. Not one person was friendly. The better of the post office alternatives in the New Haven area. More registers, space, and generally more competent and polite staff than the other locations (some of the workers are downright nice, I promise). There's an automated postal machine available 24h/day in case you are feeling antisocial. Also opens earlier than other locations. I like this post office primarily because they have a nice self-service kiosk right when you walk in the door. I usually don't need to go to the counter, just have a weird envelope or small package to send and these kiosks are perfect for that. If you need to send something out quick that does't need anything special, this is your place! I also prefer just coming to the post office than some other places in town because there is FREE and easy parking while you pop in and do your postal business **score**. If this is the best post office in New Haven, God help you guys. I had sent a 2-day priority mail envelope from Oakland, CA to a financial institution with a PO box in New Haven that was due to be delivered on 3/3/2016. After no deposit credited, I tracked the package and it was at this post office and had not moved. After playing telephone tag with lots of unattended or dead lines, I finally got a live person who stated that the package was sent to the wrong post office and was on it's way back to the sorting facility to be delivered to the correct post office, as well as telling me that this was the incorrect post office and Higher One's box was at the other. I called the other and they told me Higher One's box is at Brewery Street. Worst service I have ever experienced. Not only had I already waited in line for more than 15min; the attendant that assisted in my transaction was incredibly rude. Now two weeks later I have learned that the package that was dropped off and scanned was not shipped until 9 days after I dropped it off . I have made numerous attempts to speak with a manager at this facility but the phone number listed has not set up a voicemail.
