The Post Office is rarely as much of a necessity as it is in a micro-town like Amador City. The…read moretown is so small that people have to come here to get their mail, making it one of the more frequented stopovers in the sleepy downtown. This is also the only post office I've ever come across that you could describe as "cute." It's located in the first floor of a beautiful old historic building with quaint little antique shops flanking it on both sides. Inside, you'll find a worn desk, a bunch of P.O. boxes and, well, that's about it. During business hours there is usually a friendly mail person to greet you as well. However, because of the P.O. boxes the door is usually open even when they aren't around to accept counter mail. The only downside is also the upside. The small town charm also means the hours are less and somewhat erratic depending on the day. Make sure to physically go by there in person if you plan to use them so you can check the hours and determine the best time to get your mail on!

Fortunately this is not that case at the Burson Post Office. We were helped by Carlyn, a wonderful, detail oriented lady who carefully went through all of our documents and ensured everything was ship shape, while maintaining a smile and friendly demeanor. The quality of her work is outstanding and stands in sharp contrast to other post offices I have used in the past. The property is clean and obviously maintained with care. Their hours are not much less than my local post office, but they were able to get us in for an appointment quickly. I was quite honestly pleasantly surprised by how well our passport requests were processed and how well we were treated. Other post offices please take note.

When things are good, people usually don't bother reviewing because things worked out and that's 'normal' for them. So I'm here to provide an updated, August 2025 review of this epic blast from the past post office. The USPS worker in the picture is super nice and helpful. The office itself looks well maintained, and the PO Box section holy wow it's spacious! I dropped off a package. If it delivers successfully, I'll update this post and will maintain its 5 stars. If my package gets lost, then I'll have to drop the stars down to 1 or 2 and it'll unfortunately match others experiences. But for now we'll wait and see.

But to the rest of them, to say I'm disappointed would be an understatement. I lately placed a major order with Amazon. The tracking showed a status of "Delivered." I never received it. After waiting for a day, I drove around our rural neighborhood and started looking at my neighbors' driveways. I found my package about a quarter mile down the road by my neighbor's gate. Their house number is not even close to ours. They apparently were not home. I'm just glad we don't have problems with porch pirates in this area or I would have been out several hundred dollars. We have had two other Amazon deliveries that never made it either with a "Delivered" status. My next problem has to do with the system in general and I don't know how much of this has to do with the Ione Post Office but probably most of it. A few weeks ago, I purchase a living plant online as a gift for our next door neighbor's little girl. According to the tracking, it made it to the Ione PO. From there it got sent to Riverbank. And then back to Ione. And then to Redding and finally back to Ione. It was delivered but half dead. And now our Kohl's order is experiencing the same all expense paid trip around the state. Tracking shows it was sent to Ione and then to Riverbank. Who knows where it will wind up? I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
