Now, I finally understand why there're such low reviews (1-2 stars) for this post office location in Flushing. I am here typing up this review as I'm standing in line to buy some forever stamps. I appreciate the fact that it opens until 8pm during most days unlike other locations nearby or in the city. Space wise is kind of decent sized. Looks clean inside but you can see that everywhere is old with age. The ceiling, walls, railings, and especially the architecture from its outer appearance. The task of buying stamps is literally supposed to just take under 3 minutes. There isn't a long line either. It's not even during rush hours or on the weekends. Ends up taking 25 minutes instead in total. By the time I've finished writing up this review, I am still not up at the counter yet. Definitely a slow process imo as a comparison to the speed of how some staff are working. No one is impolite though. Just slow...... They separate different services among two lines. Line 1 is mainly for buying stamps and shipping supplies. Line 2 is for general mailing like packages and letters. That's not entirely true as you can still buy stamps on Line 1. Line 2 has 5-6 counters while Line 1 only has one. Lastly, customers can also apply for a US Passport here. read more

After all these years USPS still sucks. I thought they were trying to expand? The lines are long and they never redeliver. They think its ok to leave a note outside the front door and expect us to pickup. Whenever we go theres only 1 line with 20 people waiting on it. Theres no more pickup line. Terrible service. I have Chinese friends and the people who work there are awful. The treatment is terrible. I missed my passport appointment thinking the Chinese community would be different, and I had a very bad experience. That's why I'll stop ordering Chinese rice for a long time. Trust the reviews. If you think you're going to bypass the lines by going to the self post kiosk, think again. I'm extremely prepared when it comes to post offices, I bring my own tape, pen and like going to the kiosk to buy my postage and drop off mail. However, at this location, the drop off boxes don't work for letters or for packages and asking for help is futile. So it doesn't matter how prepared you are, be prepared to get in line even after all that prep. A very kind lady saw that my package was already paid for and that just needed to drop it off and she let me cut her in line to hand it to the employee working at the window. If the drop boxes worked for paid parcels and stamped letters as they are intended to be, it would make this location slightly more efficient. read more

On one of the busiest mail days of the year, why do you have only two windows open? Who thought that was wise? Customers were cutting the lengthy line, the cashier sold me the wrong stamps, an employee was angry at folks trying to get in after closing, and a man was urinating in the bushes outside. Not a pleasant experience. And certified mail slips aren't available in the lobby so you will have to get them from the window. But being open until 8 PM on weeknights is still a plus. And this post office is conveniently located, with some grocery stores and downtown Flushing's eateries close by. Would leave 0 if I could. Had a package that was arriving today, it had signature confirmation and I was home when it was delivered. They didn't ring the doorbell and left a pink slip, then when I went to try and pick it up the black lady had a massive attitude and was not helpful whatsoever. All of their employees and mailmen should be retrained or fired because this is unacceptable. Never go here if you can avoid it. I forgot to take a picture of the black lady in question but she was by far the worst person I ever had the displeasure of interacting with and it was the biggest mistake of the entire visit. read more

Going to this location is challenge in patience and resilience, as this is one of the slowest places in the world, with the toughest parking. So unless you are on a trek of self-discovery, or a glutton of masochism, why come here? Well, because this location is a one-stop-shop for many who are looking for services that the post can offer: stamps (especially if you are a collector) , packages, PO Boxes, and passport services. I came an hour before closing on a weeknight and still had to wait almost 45 minutes on the line for a teller. Despite having multiple windows, every time I've been here there's only been three teller windows open. I would suggest going here if you are a local who lives nearby, or taking mass transit, as you will likely exceed the one hour parking limit on the street (and it's already a miracle you found a spot). read more

I went to the passport service window to simply ask a question and the lady working there this morning had the NASTIEST attitude! I didn't have an appointment because I didn't actually need one since I was just renewing my application. All I needed was to simply ask what type of mail I should send it as and with the neck roll, eye rolling and teeth sucking she blurts out "PRIORITY MAIL, NEXT!". She is clearly miserable and she is soooo lucky I've grown up cause I sure would've out her in her place about her miserable life! The old white man at counter named Daniel is very impatient and rude. I run a small business with over hundreds USPS packages everyday. I drop off packages and go to counter ask for priority boxes for next day (they don't put boxes outside btw) - this is my daily routine. Daniel pretended not understand my request. I asked again politely. He started to YELLING at me. Seriously?!????! Yelling at your customer wasn't a smart choice. If you hate your job, just quit. He deserves only negative stars. This place is terrible. It takes about 30 minutes to deliver one piece of mail which is only approximately a one minute exchange. because the self-service drop off isn't working. Additionally, there's absolutely no workers outside to assist you in anything or answer questions. The line moves along slowly and is the least efficient way of distributing mail. Really, let's face it. Most USPS locations have bad reviews and this is no surprise but I feel it's even worse than the other 2 locations I go to regularly. I usually dropped off pre paid label in Murray Hill midtown or Rego Park Area so first time that I swing by Flushing and thought to just drop off here instead oh boy what a pain. Long huge line on a WED, and no one is there on the floor to help since they probably have one person in the counter w/such a big and busy location esp during a weekday? So their self service doesn't even work and their dropped off boxes don't work either and couldn't get a damn receipt like you would in other locations. Finally, saw someone went inside the Password section and there was a huge dump that probably dropped off parcels. So normally, the day that you dropped off you get a notification that tracking is moving/tracking but dropped off on a WED and finally got a notice that it's moving on a SAT? Wow, sure is a weird sign but good thing it is moving I mean better late than lost right? But in every location I have not experienced this, the day you dropped it it tracks but it takes them 3 full days. So I would NOT recommend this place for anyone who values their mailings. This is one of the larger US post offices around the area with a passport center, PO Boxes, package drop off area, and self serve kiosks. The customer service reps are able to create money orders easily and they sell a variety of different stamps. Worst experience with the post office EVER. They combine all the services together and everyone had to wait in a long and slow line, there are only two windows available. I waited almost an hour trying to pick up my package, and when it finally gets to me, the staff seemed like doesn't know his job and told me to wait on another window instead. He told me to wait at a window where there was no one in it and says he is not sure if I could get my package in that window, he just told me to wait until someone comes to that window, isn't it interesting? Size means nothing, aka quality not quantity. As patrons enter one would assume the postal clerks/employees are plentiful and service is efficient to serve.... NOT! I completely agree with a previous Yelp reviewer. Three or four postal employees to serve a long-haul bread line that snake around three times for one hour for a simple transaction of sending a airmail package to Melbourne, Australia. I have never encountered such turtle moving yet lazy and inefficient employees as it will take patrons one hour to be properly served. I understand people's frustrations because they don't have adequate staff at this location to service this whole neighborhood. It boggles the mind why they have so many windows and registers, but normally only 2 or 3 people working the windows. I am sure the neighborhood sends a lot of international mail/packages and they need to add to staff to accommodate those requests. This is probably the last post office in all of NYC that makes any money. Luckily i don't need to spend much time in here. I only come in to buy stamps at kiosk. It is always easy breezy. I really have no use for the post office because everything is delivered to my front door. I have used their window service previously and most of the times it was a big production, but i am glad i can now stay away as much as humanly possible. read more

Update second visit 1/30/2020 So came here again to mail my hubby's passport and docs for renewal. I told the lady right away that I'm not familiar how it works with the tracking system but she didn't even bother to answer me and just kept on saying $7.95 (price I have to pay) I asked her again and she said $7.95 again. I asked her once again and still said $7.95, I finally lost my patience and demand for answer to my question before paying. Very rude, she's a young black lady, the older Chinese is the same thing. This review is for the Passport line ONLY: I remember my sister coming here ages ago to renew her passport. I came on a Friday afternoon and I was sad to discover that this place was closed. There was a sign saying that they can only process 20-30 applicants a day, but they open Monday - Saturday and that the line started at 7am in the morning. Fine, I came here on a Saturday morning at 8:30. Again, this place was closed...wth is going on here? What I didn't realize was that this place actually opened at 9:30am and that the "line started at 7am". A staff member finally told me that these were for "NEW APPLICANTS", lost/damaged passports, renewals when their last passport was issued as a minor 16 years old and under, and for people whose passport expired more than 15 years ago. As for me, I didn't have any of these issues and all I needed to do was just fill out an application at home, send in a recent photo, expired passport and check ($110 for regular service and $170 for expedited service) and mail it in. Little did I know beforehand. Lesson learned: in this digital age, check the damn internet first! read more

The worst post office I've ever been to. The 1st thing you'll notice when you enter this post office is how huge it is. If you've never been here before, you'll probably think that's a good thing and they have lots of employees. Wrong!! The lines at this post office is crazy long, and they only have 3 or 4 employees serving at a time, so there's been times where I've waited an hour. What makes it worse is that the staff is slow. They have the laziest workers working in this location. I've had better service at McDonald's. This post office is very busy due to its location. Its located where there are thousands of immigrants who mail and receive items to and from their homelands every day. You would think that due to that fact that it's that busy, they would hire additional employees, but I've been coming here for 15 years and it's been the same ever since. 2 good things about this post office: First it's open until 8pm. Second, the place has some cool wall paintings. Unfortunately, the painting can't keep my mind occupied for a whole hour while I'm waiting on line. I've probably been at this post office a hundred times when I lived in the area, but luckily, I moved and don't have to deal with this post office any longer. read more

this flushing post office is the worst! came in to send a small package and used the kiosk (thank goodness because the line was so long and moving slowly). unfortunately after purchasing the correct package, the parcel boxes were both full and needed to be emptied. Thus, I wound up waiting on line anyway. The line moves slowly as i) not that many tellers, ii) customers on line were often elderly and thus moving slowly, iii) many on line only speak Chinese which also slows down everything for everyone. The lines are always so long!!!!! What makes it worse is that there's a long line and there's only like 1 or 2 clerks open...why?!?! So the whole process takes longer than it has to be. Honestly, I hate that i'll have to wait in such a long line only to take less than 5 mins when it's my turn!! Also, if you want to have your passport done you have to get to the office EARLY!!! Although, there's no appointment needed- it gets packed early in the morning just for the passport processing. I actually came a bit late and the room was packed and they did not have a sign explaining the process of the whole thing. Good thing I actually asked someone about it and how do I know it's my turn. It really depends on who helps you. I visit this post office pretty often to mail packages. Usually I use the shipping kiosk as it is useful and fast especially after you get the hang of it. At this time, in my experience, not all post offices have these kiosks, so I do like this location for this reason. I've used the post windows a couple of times as well, such as my first time shipping packages as well as for international shipping. My first time shipping a package, a very kind man helped me and was very efficient. He even added extra tape to my box over the shipment address to ensure it wouldn't get ruined by rain or anything. The older lady who usually stands by the side counter near the stairs is also very kind and helpful. I had trouble opening the mail drop near the self kiosks (I think they get stuck or something sometimes), so she came over and took my packages for me. However, once I had to ship an international package so I waited on line for the windows, and a younger female was definitely incompetent and didn't know what she was doing. Furthermore, she gave the attitude as if I were inconveniencing her life. Honestly, simply from shipping packages before, I knew the drill better than she did. I was shipping a package to a military base in Guam, and this concept confused her deeply. She gave me an annoyed face before asking another worker for help. I waited maybe ten minutes just standing there for her to hand me the customs form. She then had me leave the window and fill it out separately, so I had to line up all over again. The second time around, I avoided her window and went to a different woman, who was very kind and processed my package in maybe a minute or two. I've also gotten my passport done here, and don't really recall the details of it besides it being crowded thus the wait being long. Despite all the haters, I like this post office. Granted I never used window service before, but you don't need to. There's an Automated Postal Machine! How awesome is that? If there's is anything that people like to complain about going to the Post Office, it's the Postal workers (where did you think the phrase "Going Postal" came from?) But with Stamp Vending Machines and Automated Postal Machine, it becomes unnecessary for Postal workers to be in contact with a customer. The APM (Automated Postal Machine) may look intimidating at first, but the machine actually walks you through the process. And you can also pay by credit card. I mailed out a letter via Priority Mail without postal human contact, which I find pretty awesome. read more

Historic Flushing Main Street Post Office. Officially known as the Benjamin S. Rosenthal Post Office building. It was designed and built between 1932 and 1934 by architects James Baum and William W. Knowles. Their joint venture resulted in this Majestic achievement of its time. In the thirties, this towering structure was considered to be one of the marvels of Main Street if not modern architecture. This grandiose, palace like building is constructed in the colonial revival style of architecture. This two-story steel frame is symmetrical in Mass and clad in hand formed red brick. The front entrance of this library, features a grand Portico supported by 6 cement pillars. The interior of This Flushing P.O. is lavishly decorated with beautiful hand-painted murals constructed by Italian-American muralist, Vincent Aderente.(1880-1941). Vincent was a resident of Bayside Queens who worked on the murals in the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, St Matthew's Cathedral and the Queens County Courthouse among other projects. He is most famously known for his Renditions of Colombia charging forward with a billowing American flag, sword on her side. This Grandly pillared Flushing Post office is duplicated in design throughout Queens in 6 other area postal buildings. They stand as wonderful examples of yesteryears architectures. This Flushing Post Office also serves as the main hub for passport distribution in the area. Flushing is a Melting Pot of societies, cultures and ethnicities from the world over. Therefore, passports are so very important to the multi-national inhabitants of Flushing. The procedure to receive passports here is long, complicated and involved. I myself have braved this arduous 4-Hour Expedition. Complete with masses of unorganized lines of people speaking languages from the world over. Screaming children and stoic unfriendly employees. I heartily recommend that you do not come to this post office for your passport needs there are so many other quiet postal venues out east on Long Island. The passport guy, literally play golf on his office carpet, and prays for clients. Go to these postal Outlets instead. I have noticed that the arrangement of the line for the postal Windows has changed for the better. You can take care of all of your postal needs here, certain times of the day are very crowded and the line moves quite slowly as the needs of multilingual patrons cannot always be addressed quickly. My needs here are always seen to promptly, as I usually come at a quiet time of the day In summation, I personally love this beautiful lavish Grand old post office. As I look up at the painstakingly hand painted murals, I think of the folks that came here decades before. Who also shared my admirations. Will this post office be here in another 80 years? First off, let me say I am an avid user of the Automated Postal Center. And when I say I am an avid user, I am a VERY devoted user, preach it! Most of the time when I go there, there's this woman who is always revolving around me and watching me, making sure I don't cheat off the system by choosing a smaller package to make it cheaper. Really, woman? And if you're going to try to use wry humor to lecture me in a 'nice' way, please don't make yourself sound like a phony. Either tell me straight up or don't. That's the worst part about going to this specific location. The good part about this location is it's large, vintagey look and of course, the Automated Postal Center.
