I first went in enquiring about pricing and packaging procedures for certain items, which they answered with all the patience in the world. Then I went in again after a few days with a large number of packages. Stacey helped me out and shipped all my packages with a humble smile. I have seen staff at other locations roll their eyes when they see a customer who is going to take up a lot of time. Shout out to Stacey - she's the sweetest African American lady I have met till now. While she was processing the packages, we chatted about my origins, my community, holidays and so much more! This location offers all standard USPS services like PO Boxes, after hours drop off options, regular mailboxes etc. You can buy stamps, shipping material cards etc as well. Plenty of parking is available. Morning 8 am to 10 am are the slowest hrs of the day.

There are two main staff that have worked the counter for the several years I've been coming and they're always quite friendly. More than willing to work with you to get your items shipped safely and affordably. Sometimes the stamps options are limited, but I've never not been able to do what I needed. My press check went off with only one hiccup which was actually my fault but they quickly made some adjustments to cover my behind. The UV inks they use look vibrant on the uncoated stock I had selected. The customer lounge was a very relaxing area to hangout while they were preparing my job was very plush. The road construction in front was kind of a pain but isn't really their fault.

BTW, most scrap yards are very friendly and helpful, but this yard is at the top of my list! As an interesting aside, I could not help but notice that they had what I assumed was a brand new CAT crane loading me. I also noticed that the Operator was very deft and precise in his "Maestro" level of control while orchestrating the controls of his machine. I learned later that the "New" crane was in fact FIVE YEARS OLD". By all appearance, I would have sworn that is was less then one week old. I have seen a LOT of cranes in many yards. I have seen cranes that were less than a month old that did not look like they were even close to being brand new. I also learned that the Operator was so good that Marion Iron bought the crane especially for him and that he was the only person authorized to operate it. This company has SOUL!

There was an attendant that was wiping down all of the machines with a disinfectant...front and tops! There is a great variety of machine sizes ranging from $8.25 for the 6x wash to $3.25 for the double. Dryers are 7 minutes a quarter. The facility is very clean and inviting. I had an opportunity to visit with the owner as well. He reports he is a 2nd generation owner and that the attendant cleaning the machines has worked for him for 18 years since he was 18. My only negative, which is not a big one, is that the machines work only with quarters. There is a coin machine, but I had only $20 bills and spent around $23 so I have $17 of quarters in my pocket. Of note, owner commented on how good the machines are. Dexter is the name brand and they are built right here in Iowa! Upbeat music is playing so the time goes by quickly.

Upon reading the variety of paper they use, I instantly knew this was where I needed to go. There's such an attention to detail here and the owner, Liz, really knows her stuff. The shop is located in the back of Beadology on Washington in downtown Iowa City. I entered through the Beadology store and walked back through their crafting room - there's a cutesy paper sign outside of The Paper Nest's front door. I ended up buying a couple large sheets of paper here. Now that I've seen the space, met Liz, and seen her gorgeous letterpress work, I can hardly wait for the first opportunity I have to submit a letterpress order with her.
