The wait is pretty damn sucky if you haven't pre-booked an appointment. Some people wait for 4 hours before they're seen. Literally. The attendants are a little rude and don't provide the best customer service (that is, until you're seated to be seen and then they're all pleasant. SO... Here are some tips to help make your time at this passport office easier. 1) Make sure you go around to the actual passport office and you aren't waiting in the general US post office in front. 2) MOST IMPORTANTLY: book an appointment. book an appointment. just do it. You will literally cut hours off of your wait time and you'll thank yourself for planning ahead. I'll say it again...book an appointment. YOU WILL REGRET NOT DOING SO. 3) Try not to go on a Saturday. even if you arrive at 9am bright and early you'll leave by 2pm if you don't have an appointment. 4) Bring a book or toys if you have children because the use of cellphones, tablets and laptops are strictly prohibited. Having something to keep your hands busy will make the time go buy quicker. 5) Eat breakfast or a snack before you come (food and drinks are prohibited inside the building) 6) Pre-fill out your DS-11 or D6-82 you'll wait in line just for them to send you to desks to complete it and get back in line. Don't do this to yourself! 7) Make sure you have your proof of citizenship and of identity. If you're bringing your birth certificate make sure it's the ORIGINAL copy. You can make photocopies of these (front and back) if you'd like but they'll do it for you rather quickly at this particular center so it doesn't make much of a difference if it's a hassle for you to get to a printer. 8) Take your pics ahead of time at a local Rite Aid, Walgreens or CVS. You can do it at this office too very quickly (like in under 2 minutes) BUT it typically costs $8 at a drug store and it's $15 here. Also, this way you can do your make up and hair under your own terms in stead of having to be presentable after waiting hours in line. (this isn't a must it's just a nice thing to be a little more prepared) 9) If you're not a fan of small kids bring some earplugs, noise canceling headphones and hand sanitizer. Kids are cute, don't get me wrong. BUT many starter families and people with small children come to the passport office because kids under 16 can't just mail in their forms for their first passport. They need to go to an office in person. So expect it to be filled with at least 10 children (some of which who have been waiting for an hour or two without food, a nap or proper stimulation). 10) Finally just try to have fun! If you have kids play some quiet games with them. If you have a loved one plan your next trip. If you're alone turn to the person next to you and joke about the wait! Seriously this is a typical convo and there's a level of camaraderie in the fact that everyone else wants to go home just as bad as you do! read more

I came around 2:30PM today (they supposedly close at 3pm). The window for customer service was shut and I was not able to send out my package. It needed to be scanned by them since I did not have a printer. Very inconvenient that a federal service is closing early. So happy my tax money is being spent on workers that behave like that. Trying to get an issue resolved is impossible! I've been waiting for a package since Saturday. The driver noted that there is no access to the location (we lived here for 2 years and USPS delivers packages to these buildings literally every single day). I spoke to customer service and provided additional information. I was sent an email referencing the phone call and reassured that the package will be delivered the next business day. Monday comes and the driver again states no access to the location this is with the additional information, door code (pure confusion). Not only does the complex receive packages every single day, we also have lockers as well. So I speak to customer service again, she is confused as well. She then gives me the number to the local branch. Well, you can not connect to anyone there. There are no walks in etc. how the heck are we supposed to get our mail? I was also home both days watching out for a truck. I have not seen it either time. Ugh. read more

This post office, hands down, has the best customer service of any post office I've been to in the country. Nadirah is amazing!!! She was attentive, efficient, and had an excellent attitude. My fiancé and I came in with 22 large items to ship, which we understand can be stressful, and she did not hesitate to help us. Prior to coming to this location, we went to the Harrisburg location and were met with two very rude employees who had terrible attitudes and a lazy work ethic. Nadirah was a breath of fresh air for us and helped us through the process swiftly and with a smile on her face. Additionally, our items were being shipped to benefit the Alzheimer's Association, and help toward a great cause, which Nadirah and her coworker acknowledged. What a wonderful employee to have! So I got here at 5 AM and there were two chairs by the gate . and they don't open up until 8:30 in the morning and it's 5:36 AM currently six chairs outside with no one, but two people sitting in no one wants to stand outside for two hours. This process is crazy. read more

I don't know what kind of show they are running here. But my mail is always getting lost "delivered somewhere other than address it's addressed to" I run a small business and shipped something and it took 4 weeks to get to it's location from here to California. I sent a package later that got to the same location in just a few days. No one ever comes to pick up scheduled deliveries. When calling and speaking to the supervisor they seem incompetent and forget they just called me and told me a different story. Many times I have packages out for delivery and then the day comes and leaves with no package. I'm starting to think they are doing it on purpose. read more

Please avoid this location!! Please. On July 2nd, 2021 at 4:36pm I arrived at this location for my 4:45 appointment. There was a Caucasian woman with salt and pepper hair standing outside requiring that we wait. She did NOT ask me if I had an appointment but instead told us yo wait outside while she continued her conversation with another customer. Now, of the 4 of us (including the woman she was speaking with) I was ONLY one with an APPOINTMENT. I said "ma'am, my appointment is at 4:45" and she said "well you need to wait right here for me to get to you". Again, those in front of me did not have an appointment. I walked inside anyway and began to sit down in the appointment area. Why would I continue waiting outside when I was about to miss my appointment time? Do you know that she walked inside and told me to go back outside!? So when I went back outside she stood there for another 3 minutes continuing her conversation!!! After taking her time chatting, she grabbed her clip board at 4:47 and called my name. I stood there for 11 minutes to wait for her to finish her conversation. She then allowed me to enter and when we sat down I asked why the procedure was seemingly so backwards? In response she said "do you want to deal with another agent because I see you have a problem with me?" I told her that I did not ask for another agent but she got up anyways and told her supervisor to "deal" with me because "she wasn't going to". I was SHOCKED!!! It gets worse! I waited patiently and watched her bounce from one customer to the next while I waited for another agent. It was now 5pm. I stood up to ask to speak with someone and she tells her colleague "no I'm refuse to speak with her. You deal with it". Again, I was shocked. I've never dealt with such nastiness in my life? What sad about this situation is that I'm afraid the behavior of this employee will continue. She was arrogant in her disposition (almost as if she knew no one would correct her) and she was unprofessional. To make matters worse, I overheard her speaking harshly to a man that barely spoke English. I pray that this woman's behavior is rectified because I honestly didn't deserve this kind of treatment. The US Post Office on Harris Houston Road is a "Passport" Location in Charlotte. So, for any of you first time passport needers in Charlotte, this is a great location. They are open Monday through Saturday from 9-5, but stop taking customers at 3:00pm if the lines are long...so be prepared. They also do take appointments, but are several weeks out. I arrived shortly after 1:30pm and realized I forgot my birth certificate, yes, I was that girl. Needless to say the receptionist told me to come back at 4:00. I arrived back at 3:58pm and met with someone at 4:00pm. Picture taken, documents reviewed, paid and was out of there within 20 minutes. Very friendly staff and they are very organized throughout the process. A few things to keep in mind: First, be sure to bring all required papers needed. Second, bring check or money order for the $110 passport fee that must be made to the US Department of State. (Note: You can pay with cash or debit for the processing fee) Third, no cell phones are allowed in the facility And, finally, currently it is 6-8 weeks arrival time. read more

The clerk looked at me and my infant and did not EVEN CARE we were at the door begging to get in to get his passport done. If I can I give this passport acceptance center zero I would. There is one particular processor who is the rudest and I'm not sure if she speaks to people because of their ethnicity in such a manner but it angers me to see that someone who is a customer service person talk down to people especially people of color. If I could broadcast this test for acceptance center to every social media platform and if I thought that The postmaster would give as slight amount I care I would. The absolute worst. I've been to this one twice, and never again. Both times the receptionists were rude. The person who actually did my passport paperwork was very nice. But the receptionists were just awful. I had filled my application out in blue ink, she said I would need a black ink pen. So I asked if I could borrow one, and she said no. Are you serious? She had an entire office full of pens, but I was not in the mood to argue, so I went to the actual post office next to it and filled it out. Also, they have a no phone and children playing rule. They scream bloody murder if they see you on your phone. And usually, people distract their kids with an electronic device, but nope, that's not allowed either. So there's all these young kids, who can't play, and have to sit for hours. I'm sure you can imagine the noise. A little girl had lost track of her parents, and was running to catch up, and they screamed at her too. Geez, all they are doing is checking people in and making sure their applications are filled up. I would get it if someone was a jerk to them, but everyone was pretty decent. Just people wanting a passport. No need for all the attitude. Also, definitely make an appointment. You won't get it at that appointment time, but you'll get the passport way before people who didn't make an appointment. My advice: don't go to this one unless it's your absolute last option. I had to go because their open on Saturdays. But now I'll definitely drive out of my way to avoid them. I wanted to give zero stars, but the actual passport agent was nice and helpful. I would give this location zero stars if I could. I waited over a month for an appointment time to become available and scheduled an appointment for today from 1-1:15pm. When I got to the passport office the lady asked me if I had an appointment and at what time, I told her. She let me into the building and told me to have a seat...there were 7 groups of people already waiting. Only two employees working and I waited over an HOUR before finally asking someone else what time their appointment time was and that poor person had been waiting for TWO hours. This was supposed to be a 15 minute appointment so I scheduled it during my hour lunch break LOL I finally left. Two hours later..no passport and no lunch. Visited this office for a passport this Saturday morning. After reading the bad reviews I was nervous of what my day would be like. I arrived at 8:45 with my family of 5. We were welcomed in at 9:00 am sharp when they opened. We were third in line. The people at the front desk were friendly and helpful. One hour later I was out with all 5 passports submitted. About the no cell phone rule. It's a rule to protect YOU... it is for the security of YOUR identity so it cannot be photographed by others. I was there with my three children. Your kids can't handle sitting quietly for a bit? Read a book.. draw a picture... If you made a bad review of this facility it is because YOU were disorganized... If you look online at the passport process, you can be FULLY prepared for your visit. Have your photocopies made.. Use black ink or fill in the application online and print. It's so simple... This place is a complete nightmare! Arrived here on a Saturday with my husband to apply for a passport. The staff is so rude! Annoying and down right lazy! This woman was walking back and forth assuring people they would get kicked out if they were on their cellphone. She was so worried about that instead of doing her damn job! How about walking down the line to make sure folks had all of their paperwork and not waste their time standing in line for over an hour. We get to the counter just to learn they don't accept my husband type of birth certificate he has I never heard of such a thing from a US citizen. It will take you wild-goose-chasing visits to at least three area post office locations before you realize that this Harris Houston location is where you need to go for passport services. Each post office will tell you to go to the next one, the out-of-date internet shows that they all have passport services, but only this location, in this area, has the walk-in passport service (hidden back behind the main post office). It's an Orwellian, "Brazil"-like experience that will swallow your whole day, eat your soul and make you wonder if you do really, actually need a passport. Maybe it would just be easier to give up and remain a prisoner in Fortress America with no hope for escape. Give up. Go home. It took me an hour of standing in line to get a number, and then three hours waiting for that number to be called. You're not allowed to use your cell phone, so you can't tell your loved ones where you are during this time. You can't have food or drink in the room, so you could conceivably starve to death in there and, because you can't call out, no one would know. Get there early. Bring a book, maybe a board game. And some secret pocket snacks. Count on spending the day in this room, incommunicado. There is no one here to answer your questions. Informational signage is non-existent or appallingly unclear. Have your forms printed out from the internet (not double-sided) and filled out before you even go. You can't use credit cards and you have to pay for "application fees" and "processing fees" separately; bring some cash. The staff is humorless; stern, poorly fed, frowning prison wardens, constantly and furtively sneaking in and out of mysterious "staff only" doors. It will be dark and cold and rainy when you finally get to leave, no matter what the season. read more

Had an okay experience. I needed to purchase two passports for my daughters. The place is organized for the most part. Majority of the staff was rude, they have no patience what so ever. I was prepared walking in with a scheduled appointment, so I was a bit more lucky then some other clients that walked in, but unfortunately still didn't stop the front desk from being miserable. The gentlemen was making several mistakes and even made photocopies of my husbands credit card which there not supposed to do, lucky that his coworker caught it. In this mist of it all and employee walked up to my husband And told him to escort himself out because our toddler was crying. I personally feel like families come in all the time there's different ways of communicating. However, afterwards we did come across a friendly employee who was extremely friendly and patient with us her name was Donna. Very professional and again patient which is important. We received our passports, and other documents right on time. And we are incredibly grateful to have met her. Ok so this was a rough experience for the simple fact that we were going to get our passports. DO NOT GO ON SATURDAY!! I repeat unless you have NO OTHER CHOICE don't do it! We made this mistake and then had to leave after finding out we had the wrong paperwork even after waiting for 3 hours (not exaggerating). Definitely definitely make an appointment you will be first priority as an appointment and will be in and out in no time yet still make it for a weekday. This location given the crowd is extremely efficient and the supervisor there will take no ones crap she is on top of it! Be prepared to pry your mobile devices from your hands though as you will only be warned once about having them out after that you are asked (made) to leave. This place while not the most fun definitely gets the 4 stars for the ease and efficiency of the process. read more

If I could give no stars I would! I forwarded my mail at the beginning of February 2022. I moved and still have not gotten any mail and it's almost Apri! I paid the fee to have it forward, I called their customer service 2 times, on hold for at least 20 mins a piece for them to close one case and they did absolutely no investigation at all! I go to the post office to be told they have not been holding the mail. She has to talk to the carrier and he was NEVER holding the mail although I PAID to have this done! I make a second trip because they have a few pieces of my mail and pick that up. Then Lisa tells me my mail has to go to West Virginia because it's being forwarded to get to me! As of today I received 2 pieces of mail since February 2022! I am going to the news media and expose this! People are collecting pay checks and not doing their job! I pay taxes AND have to pay for them to forward my mail which I have yet to receive! Their customer service is a COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME! They give you the 800 number so they can bull crap you! I'm over it! Time to go above their heads! I will find out who runs this! if anything pops up on my credit I am going to sue them! read more

I needed to get a passport for our upcoming honeymoon, we googled the nearest places to go and this one popped up & they do take walk ins! It also said they take a lunch from 12-1 (I believe). We ended up going that same day (a Monday) around 10:45-11 in the morning. There was no line when we arrived! We had already filled out the online application and printed it off at home. The lady at the front desk photocopied the information (social, license, and birth certificate) and gave us a number. We literally only had to wait for like three minutes! We were seen by a lovely middle aged lady. We told her we needed to take pictures that day. After she snapped the picture she let us see what they look like! She was very informative and explained everything she was doing. Not only that she gave me another document so I will be able to change my last name free of charge (as long as I file within the first year of when my passport will be issued)! We were in and out with 30 minutes! Side note: you cannot have food or drinks in the building, and our phone has to be off. This does not bother me since I know several places are the same way. If I did need to let someone know where I was I would text them before I enter the building letting them know I will be out of touch for a little and text them right after I left the building. No biggie. P.S. I actually got my passport 2 weeks from the day we filed for it!! read more

I used to go to this post office all the time because it was right by my apartment and I hardly had any issues. However, lately whenever I've gone during normal business hours they're closed... for instance today I showed up at 3 pm to mail a package and they were closed even though it says they're open online until 5. And yeah, I understand it's the last mailing day for things to get shipped in time for Christmas, so maybe they said "screw it" and just closed, but still. I think that would be all the more reason to stay open until 5pm. Two stars because the employees are pretty nice but this post office can be such a hassle. I recently visited this location for passport service so this review is for passport service ONLY. I called early last week to make an appointment to apply for passport. The lady I spoke to was very pleasant and detailed and she specifically told me what to bring for the appointment. I arrived right on time and I was called in with in couple of minutes. I showed her all the documents and I found out, I was suppose to bring the original document not photocopy. So she was nice enough to squeeze me in later that day since they ONLY work by appointments. I dropped a package off in the outside recepticle. Being in a hurry I negleted putting postage on it, however I did have a return address on it. You would think that they would return it back to me but when I approached one of the clerks at the front desk and she perceded to laugh at me and make fun of me in front of everyone. I did not appreciate the rudeness, lack of professionalism, and overall tone. At no time did she actually try to help me, and even told me she had no idea what happened to packages that go into the recepticle. I don't know who runs this office or who is in charge but they need to be fired along with her and anybody else who carries that attitude. Needless to say I have been back several times and still haven't been able to find my package. This package was very important as it contained one of a kind earrrings for a customer that I handmade. I'd like to get my package back, but from reading other comments on here I'm not sure it will ever be found and I believe it may have been destroyed on purpose so if you have anything valuable you want to ship, DON'T USE THIS POST OFFICE! read more
