It seems like no one is ever working here because they always only have one window open with a 20-30 minute line going half the time. How a 3-4 person line takes that long is beyond me, but it's confusing because 5-6 people will be walking around the back seemingly doing jack laughing and having a grand old time. The one person who is in the window is usually slower than anything I've ever seen and decides that personal conversations with their coworkers are more important than efficiently getting people out the door. They also have bad attitudes and seem to hate their jobs. It's just obvious no one here cares. I've had better wait times during Covid when we had to line up outside of businesses. read more

I'm only giving 2 stars because I had one visit when one of the employees was very nice and efficient. I got lucky that day because every other visit has been atrocious. I needed to pickup a package, but the pickup window was closed and had no bell for me to ring to get an employee's attention. I got in the regular line, where I waited for over 15 minutes behind 5 people while the employees moved at a glacial pace. When I finally got to the front, I was directed back to the closed pickup window, where it took another 5-10 minutes for an employee to help me and retrieve my package. My boyfriend has also had similar experiences with this post office. If you are unable to avoid this location, I would recommend visiting when it is not busy so you get in and out quicker than I did. read more

This location is horrible!!! online it says this location is closed at 6pm!!! I arrived at 5:50 and was turned away by Joshua because he said the clerks are close by 5:45 which was a lie because 3 people was inside on the line. I then asked to speak to a manager/ supervisor but was told by Joshua that the leader wasn't in the building. I asked what time the leader would be back because this was unprofessional. Joshua then said he is going to check but went in the back and started speaking with a young lady with red hair who then proceeded to laugh and turn off the lights in the lobby. This branch and the workers along the route are insufferable. I can consistently place signs in my building lobby describing that I am home, how to ring the buzzer, etc. They will run inside- potentially not even leave a delivery slip and sometimes without a package. For priority shipments to myself- the packages might only be scanned as at the facility a week or two after the supposed delivery date. So I am currently in the facility and behind a long line of people all sharing similar complaints about how their delivery person didn't even enter the building with a package. What's incredible is to have their workers with this lack of care for their clients but then to have no staff at the facility to assist with the massive influx of people that will result from this kind of approach to work. I more or less don't want to have anything sent to my home ever in the off chance the sender chooses USPS versus any other carrier. Also, I am incredibly for public services- but this is just the epitome of frustration with government inefficiency that is accompanied by a lack of accountability, as this is a public entity. Finally, this is not due to any holiday rush. This has happened numerous times during every season to me. There are few things in this world that I find that I cannot stand and will actively try to avoid. Broccoli is a big one, I don't care for most birds, and I detest my local post office. Before I moved into the neighborhood I had had mild success with city post office's... this one though ... WORST. POST OFFICE. EVER. And I am not exaggerating here. On any given day there will be at least 3 people working - typically two at the main counter and 1 at the package pickup window. Most times I've gone to pick up a package the line is out the door, meanwhile the line for stamps and sending mail will have no one in line. You'd think they'd have someone help with the package pickup line... but no. We wait and wait and wait. I find myself rushing out of work in hopes of making it home in time to get my packages so I don't have to waste an entire morning waiting in line at the post office. This morning the fine folks of Vanderveer outdid themselves... by not answering the phone. Here I am trying to track down a package, I've called 5 times since they opened at 9... it rings and rings and rings. It rings for so long that my phone assumes I'm not using it anymore and hangs up. Customer Service is no help and only suggested I call my local branch. UGH - my local branch won't pick up the phone! Avoid this post office if you can. I mailed a package from Los Angeles to relatives in Brooklyn for Christmas 2020 and it didn't arrive. On JANUARY 12TH, tracking told me that it was being returned to sender due to an incorrect address. I suppose that was true but I still don't know b/c I still haven't received the package BACK to me. I filed the necessary search requests and whatnot and, ultimately, on MARCH 1st(!)--nearly two months after the tracking had ended and more than three months after I'd initially mailed the package in the first place--someone from Vanderveer P.O. ("Rich Wong? Touch to make out...) called me back and left a voicemail stating that the package was still being processed at their P.O. due to small staff amidst a pandemic. I get that. They left a number to call back at but every time I call it, it rings until it cancels out. No one ever picks it up. It's now over month since that voicemail and I still have no idea where my returning package is, what the tracking number might be, or when I'll get my nieces' Christmas gifts BACK so that I can send them AGAIN. I know nothing will be done but i'll just have to say the WORST post office ever! Lines are ridiculous and workers look like they don't want to be there (it's your JOB). Drivers are horrible with deliveries ( saying they put a notice slip and then didn't ). Drivers at this location don't care about the packages ( i live in a six floor two sided building and they ran my bell and left it in the lobby ) Even when the package said signature required. One star is a reach, honestly. When they deliver packages, ( or "try" to), they don't leave any sort of paper slip to tell you they made an attempt to deliver. When you go to the actual post office to try to find your missing package, they won't help you. They yell at you when you ask for help, especially the lady who works at the pick up window. My package has been missing for almost a week and they don't know where it is, but have told me it's "back on the truck" to be delivered every day. I actually prefer to go to this PO rather than the one on 24th Street and Avenue U, even though this one's it's a little farther away from where I live. This post office is the doorway to hell. It opens at 8 on Saturday right? Nope... 8:30 it is still not open. I ask a passing postal worker if they plan to open she said "I don't work on that side" I ask can you please ask someone who does to let us know I they plan to open... She said "sure" 15 mins later, no one helps. (Is it weird that I find that answer unacceptable? I feel that the correct answer would have been " I'm not sure, I don't work on that side, however I will walk over there to see if I can find out") They have terrible attitudes and there is ZERO customer service. The office is supposed to open at 8am on Saturdays. However they rarely do. During the last Saturday visit I was told they weren't opening until 830a. During the week is a nightmare. Typically in the evenings when the evening rush comes in. The agents get upset at the long lines and start to rush as it gets closer to 6p. The agents aren't very friendly or accompanying. Odd that people have jobs dealing with the general public and don't like people. I could understand that the job may be frustrating at times but this is what they signed up for. Do better! 10/25/14 Visited the Post Office again. Access to boxes is advertised for 7a. Arrived at 740a and the gates were still down and people were standing outside awaiting the opening. This post office has completely turned itself around! Gone are the dirty floors, inattentive staff and long lines. The main difference seems to be the new supervisor. Ever since Mr.Grey has arrived, the place is cleaner and more efficient. When a long line forms, he would usually stand in the middle of the line and direct traffic. This eliminates any unnecessary waiting on the wrong line that can lead to hot tempers. He is engaging and very courteous. Once, when I arrived at the post office , after hours. (past 6pm) he even took my package inside to be scanned in even though the door was locked at the time. What a service! He even has a cleaning gent stand around and sweeping up after every rush. Worst post office ever! Absolutely NO customer service skills. The people who work there obviously hate their jobs and you will hate the process. Where do I start? I order a lot of things online but I find myself constantly having to physically pick up my packages because they will say they "attempted a delivery" when I was home ALL DAY for the package. Two things. On their website they give the hours that they process passports. I filled out the proper paperwork for my daughter. Double check the Midwood P.O. Website. Arrive at 9:30 a.m. Wait there are signs everywhere saying you need to make an appointment! What!!!! (By the way, there is no one at the passport window. No one waiting) Okay. I call to make an appointment. I am told to leave a message. I keep calling. The earliest appointment they can give me is more than a month away!!! Second thing. I went to this branch today to get Christmas stamps. I wait for 20 minutes. No only do they not have Christmas stamps. They have no stamps. There is not sign telling people this. This post office is not perfect. But with all of its warts, it still manages to shine. Ever since, the previous manager, Mr.Grey transferred out, this locations has been on shaky grounds. But one of the tellers, Mr.Adrian, has kept the place going. He is very efficient and will provide great service with a smile. He will take care of each customer with the the utmost professionalism as one would expect. Sometime he would go above and beyond to take care of a customer. Also shout out to the Asian teller that is always there and is so efficient. The mailmen and women from this PO is also top notch. The mailman on my route, "Mike" is always professional. He would always look out for you and never miss any packages or mail that are exceptions. Shout out to "Mr.Wade" who just retired after 30 years of outstanding service! Perhaps, he was the greatest postman who has ever lived! If there was ever an award for postman for dedication and exceptional service, Mr.Wade should be in front of the line! I really love the postal system in general, and I'm a small business owner that infrequently ships out packages of merchandise in addition to receiving manufactured goods for comic conventions. But this (my local) post office really takes the cake for worst experience I've ever had. 1) They never deliver packages larger than a ring box. Pink pick-up slips are the most common thing in my mailbox. One time, with the smallish urgent package marked 'deliver to door/leave at box', they managed to cram it into the box, where it fit pretty snuggly, but failed to consider that it would have to clear the doorway, which impeded removal. I had to get my super to cut the package apart to remove it from the post box. 2) They provide inaccurate information about the status of the package and its whereabouts. I will infrequently have tracking marked as 'delivered', and I don't receive my ubiquitous pink slip for another two or three days. 3) They will literally not allow you to pick up mail unless you have your ID present -- if you do business under a business name or company name, their demands for verification will increase from a notarized letter stating your DBA, to letter plus business card, to invoice of the package, to invoice + the sender's address, to invoice plus your own invoice indicating that you do business under that name, to 'do you have a company credit card?' The last time I picked up a package sent to my business name, I brought in a sheaf of papers as 'proof', and it still took 20 minutes and the arrival of her manager to relinquish the package to me. This is complete nonsense. My sister occasionally has me run out to pick up packages for her because she has a very tight schedule; this is an impossibility at this location unless I provide her own State ID plus my own, despite sharing the same last name and address. 4) They don't answer their phone. It's left off the hook, and you will ring until the call cancels itself. Call whenever. It's always the same. No pick-up. They'll direct you to the customer service # (customer service located in California) as their official phone #. Customer service has no clue because they're not at that location. I've opened a case. 5) Some of the rudest staff. I really don't want to say this because I understand it's a very frustrating and grueling job, but the two women I just spoke to today had zero interest in actually solving the problem or providing my package. Frequently will be extremely curt. They'll enter packages in incorrectly and jack the price up between trips: the same small package listed as a letter-size one day will become a package the next. This is insanity for a business owner selling really tiny things; shipping is paid with the order, so I eat the costs of this post office's whims. If you tell them that it's actually an 'x' size, they will view this as an attack on your integrity and rail on you. The only time I haven't had a problem shipping with them has been with standard USPS priority boxes. Hmm. 6) If you 'Intercept' a package, and your tracking says it's at the location and available for pick-up, apparently that means nothing. Apparently that means they're putting it on the truck anyway, and you can get it when they want you to have it. They won't deliver it, they won't notify you, (because it's hold-at-location, not pick-slip-non-delivery), but they'll tell you you can't have the package that the tracking says they've got. Summary: This has genuinely been an awful post office, and I'm sorry that they're my local. I've given them five years; they've only gotten worse. read more
