I can understand why this PO has such low reviews ... based on my first experiences at this location a year ago ... which were slow and unfriendly memories. However, recentlyyyyy I've been to this location twice, and it's been a really pleasant experience ... even with it being around the holidays. Both times, I've had "Anan" (I think that's his name ... so sorry if it's not.), and THIS MAN DESERVES A RAISE!!! Not only is he assertive and efficient, he's also really friendly and ... happy with everyone. Not characteristics you often see from PO employees ... sadly. Both times, I've come in with 10+ packages to mail out, and both times, he's helped me with a smile on his face and with friendly conversation. Such a relief ... since honestly ... I got anxious having to take so many packages to be mailed. Didn't know if I would be met with visible annoyance and a rude attitude, but ... pleasantly and surprisingly, I was not. He brightened my day both days. Regarding "value" or this place ... it's a PO. Do I think prices are higher than they were before? Sure. Is there anything that can be done about it? I don't think so. USPS delivery claims can't be trusted. My delivery of live plants was delayed because of Friday snow, that's okay...rescheduled for the next day, Saturday, in which the office building (Brighton) is open until 6pm. There I am waiting in my office, then shortly before 2pm the status is updated to 'next business day' because of the lie 'that a delivery was attempted but bldg was closed'. This building with couple dentist offices has people coming in and out all afternoon. Why was there no attempted delivery slip left? Isn't the real truth the carrier just wanted to work a half day and go home?! read more

Further update. It's now clearly obvious that the whole of USPS is a law upon itself. They basically refuse to answer any questions. Several times I have asked why my package was opened and why is it still showing as missing on tracking. After much back and forth, their final answer is "no proof, case closed" So my word is not worth anything to them, and tracking which is still showing as a missing package also means nothing to them. The whole of the USPS is a scam. Also, I have proof now on how they operate. On the 17th May I had a package wrongly delivered to me. I checked the tracking and apparently it was delivered on the 16th May at around 9am. Although I gave the correct addressee their package, they could have reported this to the Police as a stolen package. More taxpayers money wasted!!!!!! read more

The Allston Post Office has been closed and there are long lines in the Brighton Post Office. Why does the Post Office close at 1pm on Saturday? Saturday is a day where people who work 5 days a week try to take care of their business at the Post Office. Very often there is only one or two employees on duty and some people come in for passports. Why not have another designated person available for passport help. Please, more help is definitely needed at The Brighton Post Office. Thank you. read more

The slowest post office on the planet. Every time someone needs help the employees have to hold a conference because nobody knows what they're doing. Plan on cutting at least 45 minutes out of your day if you need to come here or go to a different post office. For a federal agency that struggles to remain funded and viable, the service on display at this branch would convince me to shut the whole thing down if it was my only experience with the USPS as a whole. They have as a policy to not deliver mail to an address without a name on the mailbox, despite officially registering a change of address with the USPS. To make this known, they place a photocopy of a note that appears to be a copy of a fax of a mimeograph from 40 years ago that is barely legible; there is nothing official about this, not even the name USPS on it. Because we are in the middle of a pandemic, I ordered some additional masks to arrive at around the same time I did to my new place. When checking the tracking it said that the package was undeliverable due to an unknown addressee, that is when I found the above note. Majorly irritated, I placed my name on my box as best as I could since I don't have a label maker, and, days later, still no delivery. I call the post office to find out what is happening and ask when I can expect my delivery. From the start, the man that spoke with was unprofessional in phone etiquette. He proceeded to tell me that it is a USPS regulation that mail cannot be delivered to a mailbox without a name on it. When informed that no other place I have lived in this country or within the Boston area has had a ridiculous policy like that, he said, "well, that is how we do things in Brighton" before hanging up on me. Horrible customer service always upsets me, lies and excuses infuriate me. If you live in Brighton, don't expect to get your mail as it will be held hostage, do whatever you can to have your deliveries happen via FedEx or UPS. read more

I love this PO.... sure, the line can be long sometimes (it's a PO), but with the fantastic 24-hr machine, you can go in and mail to your heart's content any time of day. Go at 2am in your bathrobe! One of the guys who works at the counter, Dave, is a riot. He's friendly, keeps the line going, and has been there a while (people seem to rotate at this location). Update: They are even worse than described in the original review below. They don't actually send your mail back, they just hold on to it and don't tell you. I had to call only to find out several pieces of months old mail had been held, and since my name "wasn't on the door," and because they couldn't bother to check the USPS change of address system to see that that was in fact my address, they simply marked it "undeliverable," which makes one thinks it is lost, and held it. This place needs to be shut down. Original: They deserve negative stars, NEGATIVE. Worst customer service experience I've EVER had. Five packages and an unknown amount of letters were lost and marked "undeliverable" over the last several months. When I called, I'm told that this was because my name "wasn't on the mailbox" and that they can't leave mail because of how much people move in Brighton. Let's break down this nonsense: 1. One of their mail carriers DOES deliver, because I would get my stuff, SOMETIMES, even before I put my name on the mailbox. 2. There is a change of address in their system for me, which should have superseded any mailbox labeling (seriously, why does a mailbox label override what I have in the official USPS system, especially in an area where people move so much they are unlikely to change any mailbox labeling at all?) 3. I was still not getting packages even after I PUT my name on the mailbox. Even when I argued this point, the idiot on the phone continued to say that my name wasn't on the mailbox. So I'm not getting packages because my name wasn't on the mailbox...even after my name was on the mailbox? Ridiculous. I wasn't listened to at all and was treated like an idiot. 4. Then, when it finally got through to the guy on the phone what I was saying, he tells me that the mail carrier isn't looking at the mailbox labels each day. So in other words, in an area he admits has people moving frequently, the mailbox carrier is //prioritizing mailbox labels and then not doing the do diligence of checking them on a daily basis.// The insanity of and lack of intelligence of this is UNREAL. This is the worst post office in entire city, possibly the entire state. Don't go here, have your packages routed through somewhere else. avoid, avoid, AVOID. read more

This was comical. Not only did an employee not have a mask on, he was actively eating chips with his bare hands, while helping a customer. It got better when he left the customer to go refill his water before sitting down again and eating chips, without sanitizing/washing. Truly disgusting. I've lived in multiple states across the country and this is hands down the worst post office I've ever been to. The employees have no sense of urgency, they always have this bored, dazed look like the smoked a giant bowl before their shift. No matter how busy or how slow, it's always disorganized and no one (management included) seems to know what's going on. Never have I seen people make a Federal job look so unappealing. Although this is my "neighborhood post office", I have a car, so next time I'll look for another nearby location and pray for just a bit more competence. read more

Literally the worst post office I have ever been to in my life. Extremely long lines, fed-up workers , customers with elaborate requests or communication issues or orders and wow the number of elderly that flock here in Brighton is unusual. Last time I went a gentleman wanted a specific type of stamp. He didn't speak English well but wouldn't take no for an answer and the worker lost his cool and finally told him to step aside so he could help other customers . This alone took 15 minutes. Every time I go, there is a huge line, sometimes out the door. I counted three grandmas trying to send things to their grandchildren which alone takes at least 10 minutes Not wasting what's left of my youth here. The Alston one is rarely used, I suggest you use that one if you are able to access it. DO NOT GO HERE, YOU WILL MAKE THE LINES WORSE. You have been warned. read more

I agree with the previous reviewers. The workers here are beyond horrible! I never thought that I'd write a review for a post office but here it goes... I had a package with a pre-printed shipping label. I was told by this woman named Paula to go home and re-print it because "the label was from the day before." I am a working person. I can barely go to the post office as is. She was totally unhelpful. I asked her what is stopping me from putting the package in a mailbox? She said "now that I know, I'll be looking for your package and I'll send it back to you!" What a nut! So, I left the post office all irritated. I decided to call to complain as I was driving away. A woman named Donna(supervisor?) told me to come back. She told me that she'd help. When I arrived, I caught Donna and Paula gossiping about me - totally busted! Donna instructed Paula to change the date of the package to be for today's date. Paula threw her hands up in the air and said "you can do it yourself. I am not helping her." Who talks to their supervisor that way? After all this drama, Donna processed my package and surprisingly, the package made it to its destination. I regret not calling their manager... I doubt he bothers to read the reviews for the show that he is running over there. By the way, to this day, these 2 people still work at this location. I have never posted a Yelp review before, but the horrible service I have received at this location has prompted me to write a review. I tracked my package and it said it had been delivered. When I called the post office to express my concern that it had been stolen, they explained that they did not want to leave it on the front porch because it may get stolen. Seemed nice enough. They promised it would be delivered to the back porch if not the next day, then the following business day. Days later and still nothing. I called again and was told the package was still at the Brighton post office, but that the woman I needed to speak with was not in and that no one else could help me. Does not help that the package that was supposed to be delivered was an air conditioner and that we are in the midst of a heat wave. In the future, I will trek to the post office in Brookline to avoid any confusion and frustration caused by the Brighton post office. read more

I love this post office. I only ever come here to pick up packages and mail stuff with the self-service machine, but these employees are WONDERFUL. When it gets busy they open up a little window just for people who need to pick things up. AWESOME. Caveat: my mail lady totally sucks. She doesn't ring the doorbell when I have a package, smokes on my front steps, and doesn't give me the little notification slip half the time I have packages. Last time I was expecting a delivery and didn't get a slip, the wonderful woman at the counter said, "This happens to you a lot, doesn't it?" and gave me the manager's name and number. They don't even deserve a 1 star. These post office clerks gets paid $15-$18 an hour and can't even do their job right. First they don't listen to the customer's needs. Line was ridiculously long. On December 18th, 2015 at 12:45pm, I told John the Cantonese man to send my small package at priority and it's not in a rush. Which part does he not understand? I already told him what I want and he still asks. He told me to write my address on the next counter that this middle aged late 50s woman with short blond highlights was raising her voice to tell me to move and kept saying excuse me miss move over to the other table to write. I don't even know her name because either she wasn't following her job rules to wear her name tag it its hidden behind her sweater. I was told to write on her middle counter and that's what I'm doing so I have to raise my voice back to her and said I heard you! She even gave me dirty stares when everyone was waiting for her to come back from lunch. Another lady was also complaining about how slow they are working. I felt so negative coming here just to send out a postcard and a small package that's the size of my hand. If you are not happy or satisfy with your job go find another place to work or be satisfy with what you have and work hard at it! Don't treat customers in a rude manner because you are always a customer out of your job too. USPS jobs have great benefits so be happy at your job and treat everyone that walk through the door nicely or you will just be miserable all day. Is it a requirement to be mean to work at the post office ? It seems to be. If you absolutely just go to this branch except to be waiting 15-30 minutes. Maybe even longer. I watched at least 3 people ahead of us have some type of issue with their transaction or postage or box and be shooed out of line for the next customer. There's no service or assistance with literally anything outside of mailing a letter here. We came to do a passport and we're reprimanded and spoken to as if we were dogs. We had an appointment but it doesn't matter. You still need to wait in a long line with everyone else. The man doing the passports is exceptionally rude and we have to pay them for this service. His first thing he said to us was "were you waiting in line" as if we cut people for our so called ' appointment time'. He wanted to find everything wrong with what we filled out. Finally our paperwork was told it will be mailed but we didn't see him put this in an envelope. He shooed us out of line and told us it would be taken care of. Word of advice to the next refuse to move until you see this information sealed in an envelope. Now I have to entrust this was handled correctly. read more

Yeah, I know what you're thinking. Its a post office. There are lines. And generally two-dimensional hired help behind the counters with a short patience span. AND there are like, a BAZILLION post offices everywhere. So, why this one? Location right next to a bank? That's pretty rad- two errands taken care of in one place. Inside there's a lot of space and all of the packing/service materials are super organized. AND! At ten-til-five, the staff didn't seem to be rushing to shove everyone out and when I left at 5pm and more people were filtering in, they weren't turned away. A+ in my book. read more

I've been to this post office many times and, yes, it's a post office -- long lines during peak hours, staff that look like they hate their jobs... same as you'll find anywhere else. This place is not worth a fourth star because of the lack of off-street parking and the fact that when I use the self-service station to ship packages and large envelopes, the dropbox door never opens so I have to nudge my way through line in order to hand it off. Kind of defeats the self-service aspect of it! Still, this is THE go-to post office if you live in Brighton Center like myself. read more

THIS branch epitomizes what the USPS is all about: efficient, friendly, personable, and professional service. I've never had a single problem any of the times I've been here, whether it was to mail off large boxes, small envelopes, pick up packages, or renew my passport--this Brighton Center location has done it all for me, sans problems, every. single. time. It doesn't get much better than 100% accuracy, right? And though I didn't see my two fave postal clerks while I was there today--the small goofy guy with glasses and a blingin' chain, or the older gentleman who's soft-spoken and smiley--I was helped by a very nice woman, and my transaction went off without a hitch (sending a care package to my parents--yes, I win daughter of the year award--via those flat rate Priority boxes), and I picked up some adorable Pixar Forever stamps to boot. Definitely glad this is my neighborhood postal office, and that I sometimes have time during the day to haul myself to this location (versus the dreaded Mt. Lazy mail men never deliver any signature confirmation packages, they remain at the office, and all i receive ever is the piece of pink slip, so i have to drive there myself every time. I will file a complaint soon to the post master general if you guys don't correct your methods. Also, even though you request a redelivery, they will still ask you to come in because they are too lazy to deliver them or use the freaking buzzer. read more

I work six days a week and could not make it to the post office to collect a package that required a suprise signature confirmation. I spoke with a representative who directed me on how to process a redelivery request and my package arrived that day. What really impressed me is that I got a call back the next day (today) to make sure I got my package. WHAT SERVICE!!! I love these guys! they really care. read more

I'm sorry to say the Brighton Post office service for delivering packages in my area is a very poor service. This past Christmas my daughter sent two packages from Amazon Prime one being ship by FedEx and other by USPS. I did get package from FedEx on time as plan. The package from USPS I still never got. Then just last week I order two packages from Amazon and again one being ship by FedEx. and other from USPS. I got the FedEx on time as schedule and USPS package I did not get because of road condition. Call back to make special drop off arrangements and still have not received the package. But yet FedEx can delivery on time. read more

As far as post offices go, this one is pretty close to the top of the list as far as I am concerned. Usually clean, VERY low incidence of homeless/drug users (I'm looking at you, huntington ave PO!!), usually quick service unless you are coming in at peak hours. This Post Office in a word....sucks. I have learned how to strategically deal with this location because one needs a plan to deal with slow and incompetent people here. They used to have an old Santa Clause looking guy in the morning who was extraordinarily slow. He would take 10 - 15 minutes per person because he would try to talk to people like they were beat friends when people just wanted to get the hell outta there. I learned to get to the post office as soon as it opened because of this guy. He's gone now but if I have to pick up a package before work I'm there as soon as it opens. Then I had a problem with a thief stealing packages and had to go to this location with three different written request to hold packages at the post office. I had a package stolen because they couldn't follow instructions. I have a PO Box and theres times when they don't put items in my box that could fit so I have to come during business hours and wait in super long lines to get a package that should have been shoved in my box that I pay for. This location is frustrating and on most occasions they're incompetent. read more

Regular issues tracking shipments that come through this office. Frequently flagged as attempted delivery (notice left) with no notice left or mail delivered, have also had priority package flagged as delivered but was actually left sitting in the back at the post office. Disappointed. Update: 9/11/15 my package was sent out for delivery even though I requested a hold one day in advance. Upon calling to find out what was going on, the manager informed me that it was "too logistically difficult" for them to hold my piece of mail, that they could not fulfill every hold request. I called the USPS 1-800 number and reported the incident. The representative at the 1-800 number confirmed that this was unacceptable. People do rely on hold requests to safeguard their mail from theft when they are not home. This PO continues to drop the ball. read more

Every time I go here, the people are awesome. They are super friendly, always willing to help, even throw out phrases rarely seen in customer service these days, such as: "Hi, how are you today?", "Thank you", "You're welcome", and even "Is there anything else I can help you with today?". Doing business inside gets an A+. That said, the mail service is a joke. There was a multi-week stretch that my apartment didn't get ANY mail for no apparent reason. Letters left for the carrier to be mailed out were not taken by the carrier and in one case I found my letters laying in the front yard. I had dropped a letter in the mailbox down the street and it was returned to me for no reason with no note. I called to complain and over the next few days we started getting mail that didn't belong to us, mixed in with some mail that we should have been getting. At the advice of the USPS office staff, I started marking the mail not intended for us "return to sender, refuse delivery", which the carrier of course never took back. I even tried dropping those things in the blue box down the street and they ended up back at my house. I called again to complain and they said they got a manager involved. After that, things leveled out. That was a few years ago, but service hasn't improved that much. Sometimes my whole street will go days without mail service, then suddenly my mailbox will be overflowing with 3 days worth of mail. Other times, packages I am tracking will show they are delivered to the Brighton USPS and then will sit there for days and days as I watch the "Expected Delivery By" date extend and extend. There have been many times when I have to go to the post office and pick up packages that were never delivered. There have also been times when packages never showed up but were marked as delivered. I am prompted to write this review today because I am on day 3 of no mail service and just saw that a package I am expecting was delivered to the Brighton USPS and was supposed to be delivered today, but the date just changed to tomorrow. So I guess I am now looking at 4 days of no mail service? Nice, Brighton USPS. According to Yelp, 2 stars means "Meh. I've experienced better". In this case, I would say 2 stars is accurate. read more
