Passport office is horrible don't come here. I had three failed attempts to apply for passport at this location. The first time was my fault the second time I left because the line was so long and the third time I was the first person in line at 7 AM only to have the man let a family of six people cut the line in front of me. I ended up going to the post office by the airport I was third in line even after they opened at 9 AM and the whole process took about 10 minutes.go to the Oakland international airport post office for passport renewal. Like so many others, the mail delivered to my mailbox sometimes consists of other people's mail, delivered to the wrong address.........so much so, that I had to write in big letters, my address, on a big note, taped over my mail slot....still get wrong mail, just not as often.....The main p.o. itself is meh; the lines are long and slow.....the clerks are OK but never in any hurry to get to the next customer....people who complain about the attitudes and competency of federal employees do not understand the culture.....you will get the same at most any other government institutions......try the DMV or unemployment office. read more

Went to get a passport last week, the are only open for them on Mon - Wed - Fri. Said she only takes a certain amount then closes for the day, it was 11:00 am. Asked when was the best time to come, the rude response was, just come and see, she might take more, might not, you have to take a chance! ??? So back at n Friday at 10:30. Said she had to leave early and won't take anymore. The lady behind the window shoved two applications and said try someplace else. Then the man next to her yelled, we just had a passport Fair, you should have gone there. Seriously, where was this information? He just huffed. If I could go with 0 stars I would. They are always understaffed. With lines often going on for over an 1 hour, and the staff of duty are so rude and no help. I've made multiple calls to notify the head office and that doesnt seem to help either. The head postwoman is the worst, I've been hung up on multiple times when in search for a late package. I've tried speaking to her in person and she can't be bothered. If you HAVE to make a post office stop try an online stamp resource, and drop of your package and run. Just got my passport and it only took a week because I had it expedited. It was suppose to take 3 weeks but got in a week I'm so happy I got that out the way. I also recommend that you come in prepared with all your documents right and in order do your research before you get in line it will take awhile to your up next to talk to clerk. read more

I ordered an item, which sadly, was set to be delivered by USPS Alameda. Tracking the delivery attempt showed that they supposedly attempted delivery at 920AM, but there was no one home and no secure place to leave my package. A package that incidentally, was quite heavy. The interesting thing is that from 904 to 940 I was on my front lawn chatting with a neighbor and gardening. In addition, there is a large note on my front door which reads, please leave packages behind the secure gate, with an arrow.. The "attempted delivery " note was placed on the door much later on when I had left, which is evidence by security cameras. I can't feel bad that so many prefer to ship with anyone other tha post office. Just because the carrier didn't want to lift the heavy package I have to pay shipping, but still trek to the post office to pick up my package. I wouldn't mind if it wasn't their actual job. read more

This postmaster, Mr. Sosa, really lowers the bar for customer service. I could accept the fact that my package was mistakenly put on a slow boat to Hawaii (from Richmond) instead of delivered to me in Alameda. What infuriates me is that when I called with the tracking number after 2 weeks of waiting, not only couldn't they tell me it was on a boat to Hawaii, but they promised to get back to me in 48 hours with info and never did. 6 days later II went in and Mr. Sosa lied to me, saying he'd sent an email. When I asked to see it, he showed me a FORM LETTER to DEAR CUSTOMER with no email address or other info showing it had been "sent" to me. It would have been a pathetic effort, even if it had actually been sent to me. read more

DO NOT go to this office to issue/renew your passport, unless you are prepared for major frustration and disorganization. When you call, if they even answer the phone, don't expect to get correct information about the process. They told me to just show up between 8:30 and 3:30, with no appointment. When I showed up, I was told by a woman waiting in line that you need to be there at 8:30am to get your name on a list, first 25 people to get on the list by 1:30 are told to come back at a specific time. So good luck. BEST place to go is Berkeley's Main Downtown office. read more

Do NOT go here for passport services. The person working that office is beyond hostile and awful. And be sure if you do go that everything is stapled and photocopied the way it needs to be. The website for passports isn't clear on this, but you need a photocopy of your ID and that of every person applying before you arrive. There's an office max in the parking lot. There is no copier in the post office. But really, do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. You've been warned. The SF consulate takes longer to get into, but it's MUCH better to deal with. This is the worst post office I've ever been to, they lost my package and for some reason are the ones with the attitude I went there Wednesday and waited 30 minutes for the supervisor and had to leave because I had other things to do. So I go back today and waited an hour for the supervisor and she never came and then the workers said that she wasn't even there and when I asked why would they have me stand there for that long and she wasn't even there they once again got an attitude like they were they ones with that lost package that cost over $300. Let me start off by saying I came into this post office to renew my passport and they told me I have to call this number in order to renew and make an appointment for Saturdays I work a 9-6 job Monday through Friday so i would never be able to make it during the week. I have been calling the number for the last week!!! No one has answered my calls nor do they have a voicemail or an automatic number they will allow me to schedule an appointment to get my passport done!!! I have a P.O.Box at the South Shore Post Office for my business.I've tried calling the telephone number listed for them several times,without success. It just rings and rings. (I have noticed previous posts addressing this as well). Typically the line extends to the door (like it does during the pre-Christmas holidays). There are not enough clerks working and the line frequently moves slowly. It is particularly brutal when the temperature is in the 90's, as there is no air conditioning. Also, I often get mail in my box which belongs to other P.O. Boxes. I have to wonder how much of my mail ends up in the wrong box? Most of the people who work at the counter are nice, but behind the scenes I don't think it is very efficient. Overall its an unsatisfactory and unpleasant experience, especially when a problem arises and you really need customer service. read more

DON'T GO TO ALAMEDA SOUTHSHORE THINKING YOU WILL GET YOUR PASSPORT APPLICATION PROCESSED, BECAUSE IT WON'T HAPPEN!!! RUDE workers who are not willing to accommodate the customers under ANY circumstance!! Instead of staffing up to meet the demand, they are happy to send people away. Families preparing for int'l travel aren't in a position to take children out of school during weekdays TO GET A PASSPORT. Saturdays offer more flexibility. Unfortunately, these workers know they are one of few offices in the east-bay open on Saturday to process passport applications, so they have that edge, and they are rude and unyielding to the customers needs. There were FIVE families with children from all over the east-bay attempting get their passport applications processed, yet to no avail. The supervisor wasn't empowered to manage the situation better, so he went back to his office while we waited.He didn't have a solution, and wasn't trained or authorized to take up the slack. I have my passport, and it took all of TEN MINUTES to process my application previously. The application I attempted to get processed this morning was for my son. The processor came out to the counter and announced NO WALK INS, while waving his hand and walking away. Unfortunately, he has a history of being EXTREMELY RUDE, and without ANY regard for customer service. UNACCEPTABLE!!! The service provided does not meet the demand of the customers who require this service. Several other families were walking in as the first wave of families were leaving. A total waste of over an hour attempting to complete this task. The next open appointment is JULY 9th for a SATURDAY appointment, when we're in the month of APRIL, WTH!!! If the operation doesn't want to process passport applications, then remove the function in it's ENTIRETY!! It is completely FRUSTRATING to see and deal with people who would rather tell you what they can't do, as opposed to WHAT THEY CAN DO!! These people should feel TOTALLY ashamed of themselves for the lack of service provided! If the establishment requires additional help, GET IT!!! The clerks working the front counter said the scenario this morning is an EVERY weekend/Saturday occurrence, WoW... Don't waste your time at the Alameda Southshore post office attempting to process a passport application, because you will be highly disappointed, and greatly frustrated. I honestly expect poor service at post offices because they are notoriously under staffed, but I'm truly so impressed that these guys seem to have it together, particularly when today is one is the last days to mail Christmas packages with regular post. They had a team of people assisting patrons at the self-serve machine, handing out packaging tape, and running parcels to the correct places - I was in and out in under 5 minutes. This is the second time in a row that they delivered my packages to the wrong address. It has been a total of 4 packages. The first time, my package was opened, & returned because i guess they did not want what was in there. This time a nice neighbor from several houses down was nice enough to return all 3 of my packages delivered to his address. I've been coming to this post office all of my life, 40 years, I've seen some very efficient clerks here, and one or two slower ones --it's too bad that the CUSTOMERS are so picky and get so impatient. The workers behind the counter are actually quite hard working, efficient and friendly, but will immediately deadpan their face as SOON as you start yelling or griping, and believe me, I've watched them get griped out FAR too OFTEN by customers for silly reasons, usually for something the customer him or herself did incorrectly. The workers DESERVE FIVE STARS overall for TOLERANCE of the general public and not quitting their jobs, especially the faster clerks (the older gentleman there who is one of the best ones) - but I reduced it by one star due to long lines and not enough staffing - which isn't the workers fault! People ought to be MORE appreciative of these hardworking postal workers. read more

Passport Office: typical environment of xeroxed signs stuck all over the walls written in ALL CAPS to visually yell at you while you grow old in line. The line moves at glacial speed. In my case, instead of sending the completely unprepared person aside to even start her forms, staff allowed her to hold up the entire line and do them at the counter. That's one way to make a break for yourself at work, and USPS wonders why they continue to lose market share and gain further derision. The woman in front of me advised me that her child was also on the way. She didn't tell me that also meant an additional child, an older relative, and a husband. Older relative passed the time by clapping the buzzy flies to death. Line went out to the lobby. Just no. Just don't here. Make an appointment at a processing facility somewhere else. A DMV office with no air conditioning on a hot day without an appointment is a better experience.***Update: went to UC Rec Sports to get the processing done. That was a 5 star trip. Go there instead if your sanity is worth a $25 processing fee that is supporting student workers.*** read more

Their redelivery service is beyond terrible. When I'm home to receive a package, they barely wait five seconds to let me get to the door before rushing off a notice and leaving. When I submit a request to have my package redelivered on another day, they almost never come on the day I request, but on the day after or even two days after, when I may or may not be able to be home! The incompetence with which they handle this is astounding. And since I'm carless, going across town to get the package myself is hardly something I can just do whenever I feel like it. As of this writing, I've been cooped up at home all day, putting off necessary house chores and errands because I feel like I'll just miss the package again if I don't wait by the door for whenever the delivery person feels like showing up. How hard can it be to just redeliver a package on the day that the redelivery was requested? How are you going to expect your customers to put their lives on hold just so they can receive their ****ing mail? Get your **** together, people, for the love of God. read more

I ordered a phone that was supposed to ship to my home by USPS. I went home early that day to wait for my package. I sat at my room. My wife was sitting in the leaving room. But the package never came. It was like 5:30 pm. So I checked online and USPS site said they came but nobody was home and left me a note. So i checked outside but no note. And I couldn't get thru their phone system. I ended up I had to take a day off to wait for half a day for the delivery person to find the package. It was ridiculous. The line was the long. The wait was long. And I guess they send the note to the wrong house. They said there are multiple addresses similar to mine. And that is bigger BS since my street name is unique. read more

Passport renewal on Monday morning. Line was really long. Doors to post office open at 8:30. Doors to passport center are supposed to open at 8:40, but the doors were locked for 5 minutes before someone knocked. The guy unlocked the door but did not even open it so it took a couple minutes before we could figure out passport center was open. It took us 30 minutes to get passport once we reached the register. Over the years I've had several problems when it came to mail delivery from this office. Everything from "Delivery Attempt" Notices not being left when tracking info says they were to tracking info saying items were delivered but they weren't in my mailbox then they show up days later. My recent problem, item noted to have been delivered in my box but it was NOT there when I checked hours later. I opened an inquiry for it to be closed without them attempting to contact me and with no investigation because the tracking info says it was delivered. Called the number on the post card mailed. No answer. Go into the office to speak a manager. She passes me on to someone else whose response was "Oh well this says it was delivered". I go into the spill about that being the problem and the reason inquiry was opened in 1st place. For her to admit that it was very likely that the carrier delivered it to the wrong address. For me to be like "that's not my fault and this needs to be reopened & escalated and claim filed NOW!!!" For her to hand me off to a 3rd person. Then for him to take my info and say he's going to question the mail carrier. Ok. Why wasn't that done in the 1st place??? Why would the inquiry/case be closed without that being done 1st? Ever terrible visit I've had with this location boils down to the same person: Paul from the front desk. He didn't make eye contact AT ALL, rolled his eyes when I asked him a question and basically told me I was an idiot for thinking an email with a notification for pickup was ever something I should believe. It might cost more, but I would rather spend $20 having something shipped to me via FedEx than ever have to go to this location for a pick up ever again. At the very least, Paul needs to be reminded that if you can't be polite to customers, you shouldn't be in CUSTOMER service. Gross. read more

This 1 star is for the passport attendant clerk. He is working as if he is making us a favor. I don't think being a passport attendant clerk gives you the right to yell at people and give them the face. Bad attitude. We were there for 1 hour waiting in line, then at 2:30 he show up from behind the counter and start counting 1,2,3,4 and said we close at 3:30 so I am able to leave only those customers the rest (he was talking about me and another customer) you should go home. Whattt!! we were waiting in line for 1 hour!!!! Why you do not put a sign outside that you are not accepting customers when you reach your quota for the day? This is embarrassing and a waste of time. He saw us in line for a long time and then he decided to cut us from the line. I went back another day and he opens the door late 10 minutes (he was taking lunch). And by the way he unlocked the door from inside and was waiting for us to wide open it from outside!! read more

Avoid going to this Southshore post office! Employees at this facility do not open on time. They open their doors at 8:30AM and front clerks take their ti,e to open their assigned counter. Employees do not seem to get along and you feel it while you stand in their horrible long lines. The USPS front clerk employees who have been there for years continue to provide slow customer service. They also over charge postal fees so be sure to weigh you mail or package on the meter provided inside the building. Do not spend your money using their PRIORITY BOXES! The USPS priority service does not get you package as the USPS promised as delivery date.I highly recommend UPS to mail your packages as it is more cheaper and delivery time is better. There is a UPs in Alameda near Nobhill at Blanding Avenue. Avoid going to the Hispanic lady at the front desk!!!! She moves like a turtle (VERY SLOW) and does not have eye contact when dealing with customers! I am surprise the lady is still employed there wearing a back brace when every employee working for the USPS are required to carry 70 lbs. Management need to get rid of this employee!!! Go to NobHill Grocery Store at Blanding Avenue in Alameda. They have a post office there and they provide excellent and fast service!!!!
