I had a nightmare experience with this moving company. They miscommunicated every step of the way. Upon picking up my furniture and packing my belongings in their truck they told me the rate was going to be higher than originally quoted despite me clearly articulating each item that needed to be moved in detail. They asked for the payment in cash. I told them I was going out of town from August 26th-30th and that the furniture would need to arrive either before or after my trip. They proceeded to arrive at 11PM the evening of Wednesday, August 26th. My belongings arrived with missing pieces, damaged and cracked and they refused to assemble the large pieces of furniture despite that being a term in the contract. They delivered items that were not mine from other customer's moves and misplaced/lost my items. read more

Terrible service! DO NOT USE!! Price doubles at drop off! No one at this company communicates with you after you make your first payment! Drop off was 7 days late, driver didn't arrive until after 7pm, 7 days after the original drop off date! Joseph and the rest of the staff are scammers! At drop off they try to tell you they only accept Zelle when they accepted a debit card at pickup, and after 30 minutes of going back and forth they conveniently accept venmo! During my move, I specifically paid extra to have my large TV professionally packed. During the move, my TV, smoker, and dart board were severely damaged/destroyed ($3000 worth of items). I tipped the movers close to $1,000. When I called about my damaged items, I was routed to an outsourced claim processing company. 3 months later, I received notification I would receive $50 back. I then left a google review, to which the owner responded asking me to reach out to customer service. I did so, and was told I would received a call back the next day. 3 weeks passed, and I received no such call. Followed up again, was put on hold, then instructed as to how I could receive the $50 refund. I would not use the service again under any circumstances. read more

I have always been emphasizing on the fact, being a services expert professional, that service is more about the pre and post service rather than just the service itself. I say this because of the impressive response I got from Big Shoulders from day one. The website that I was told to visit had a proper appointment system and I managed to get the first appointment of the next day. The consultancy was brilliant. I told them the major furniture, both hard and fragile that needs some moving and the consultant managed to get a estimate on the basis of time required to move, stuff to move and the both of the locations. The price was reasonable and given the service, I guess that is the best bang for the buck. I don't think of using any other service for now. read more

We were going with Mayflower for a long distance move and should have stayed with them. Allegiance ( a shady moving broker) somehow got our information and promised they would save us more than 10k if we used them and that they would pack and move our belongings like they were their own. They did not state they outsource to a 3rd party for the actual move. They then hired Big Shoulders and brought 2 small trucks to a 7000 square ft home. Our house was on the market at that point and we had just replaced carpeting on the stairs, hallway and master bedroom. They got mud and stains everywhere that we had to pay over 2000.00 to have cleaned. The company manager said to file a claim, which I did. They left things behind that were supposed to go into their shuttles, and charged an extra 4600.00 over Allegiance's quote. Our things then spent 3 weeks in storage somewhere and we had no furniture in our new residence when we moved out of state a few days later. The manager at Big Shoulders was not empathetic at all, and we had our 2 kids starting school in a new state in 3 weeks. When we finally got our things delivered by yet another moving company Big Shoulders contracted out to. Many pieces of our furniture were damaged, we are still missing a few crates/boxes with clothing, shoes and computer equipment that add up to around 2000. They also refused to deliver our belongings unless we agreed to to pay 2200 more for 2 shuttles to come to our neighborhood (we have witnessed Atlas, Mayflower, etc deliver on our street in their semi) They wouldn't accept a cashiers check, it had to be cash or a money order (really?) Never ever use this company or a moving broker is my advice. I have filed 2 claims in the past year and it's been crickets. I paid much more than I would have with Mayflower and probably not had nearly the stress level my entire family endured. Shady business, stay away!! read more

I was quoted a really good price to move bedroom furniture -1 room, 15 boxes, 1 small cabinet and a curio cabinet. I was quoted $2,109 to move from Minnesota to Washington State I noticed in the contract it was listed as an estimate so I asked Anna, my sales rep for examples of what would cause additional fees. Her example was if I exceeded the space allotted. I was told that I would receive a 24/he notice when the movers would arrive. I received a 20 minute notification. I was told they would deliver my items within 12-14 days. They were several days late, they did give me credit for that. I received a call a couple of days prior to delivery that I would need to pay $400 more because there was no where to park the semi truck. Pls. be aware of the additional fees. I did not prepare for the additional fees because the items that I had only required a small truck. Also, with satellite, they could have determined that upfront. Also included in the total move was to assemble my bed, that did not happen. I would not recommend this company. I highly recommend that you start shopping early for movers and ask many specific questions. read more

You get what you pay for with Big Shoulders Moving. For a trip from Chicago -- NY, they gave us one of the cheaper quotes we found. So we chose them. They quoted us for 1,000 Cubic Feet and after filling up the truck told us that we went 300 feet over. Mind you, the truck was not packed professionally. There were lots of pockets of space and I think they misled us in this sense. The packers were efficient, but did not pack strategically. They put our belongings into HUGE boxes (the men who unpacked us said that this is a very unkind way to pack - both for them and for us.) and didn't label very well. They didn't use any special boxes - no wardrobe boxes or dish boxes. Same boxes for everything. Also, nothing was branded "big shoulders" (not even the tshirts they were wearing - it had a different company name altogether) and that was a bit of a red flag to me... The men who unpacked us were so so nice but didn't do a great job. They left out 4 screws when putting our dining table together (it is still quite wobbly) and left out the supporting leg of our TV console. We had to make that fix ourselves. We were also left with a scratched up dresser and 1 out of 2 broken TVs. There were also some boxes labeled "master bedroom" that they left in the garage which is just frustrating and displays laziness on their end. All in all, our stuff got here safely and pretty efficiently. But if you want to make sure that your stuff will be safe and paying extra $ will give you peace of mind...I would go elsewhere. read more

NEVER.AGAIN. This is the type of cross-country nightmare people dread with moving companies. If you don't want to read the full review here's snapshot: - Tried charging me almost $500 to take my couch or leave it (they left it) -Lied about not having space on truck and when the truck was in route -Took wrong items that I had to go and retrieve since they wouldn't return them to me the same day -Never contacted me after moving day -Dispatch office doesn't call back with updates -Manager was careless about issues, didn't take accountability and gave no solutions -Still awaiting on my things after 18 days with no given ETA Unfortunately, I never chose this company but was assigned to Big Shoulders or "Skyway Movers" whatever they're called by Allegiance Moving. Long story short, Allegiance gave incorrect inventory numbers (100ft less) about my order so Big Shoulders wanted to charge me almost $500 to take my couch (which was less than the minimum requirement of space allotted for a studio apartment to begin with). Because I didn't want to pay that they left my couch. Not only was my couch left, they took items they weren't supposed to from a different room when I specifically told them I put everything in one room that was supposed to be taken. They said they couldn't bring it back because it was already "in-route" to California from Chicago so I ended up having to meet one of the movers in the middle of the night to retrieve my luggage and boxes. Did I mention the movers complained to me about the tip I gave them? He said "tips should be 15-18 percent" of my full moving price which was crazy to me because you're only doing ONE HALF OF THE MOVE while other movers are doing the rest in another state. That truly rubbed me the wrong way that he'd try to get over. Especially after the couch situation. Shouldn't have given them a tip at all. After the day of moving, I heard nothing from anyone ever again. I called my representative multiple times and the first response I actually got from him was to check my paperwork for the dispatch office number when that's HIS job to do. After calling dispatch who wouldn't put me in touch with the manager, they finally told me that even 2 weeks after picking up my items, nothing had even left Chicago to get on the road! How is it that they were trying to charge me $500 for "lack of space" (I was already owed) when they had a truck that hadn't left because they were awaiting it to be full? A mess. Dispatch finally gave me the manager's Ben's email who clearly had no empathy nor took responsibility for the issues that had been going on with his movers. He was careless and neglectful with no solution given. I've called dispatch three times since who always says they'll reach out to the truck and call me back with an ETA but never calls back. Two and a half weeks later I am still without my belongings, without my couch, drained of energy and wasted time and will probably hear nothing back for another week. lol This is a joke. read more

We used Big Shoulders Moving and Storage (may also go by SkywayMovers Limited LLC) to move a family of 4 from a 4 bedroom household in Racine, Wisconsin to Chesterfield, Virginia in June/July 2022. Our items were picked up on 6/24/2022 and arrived on 7/3/2022. Our OrderNumber was 2-6786594. Prior to the move, in working with Danny and their Sales department, we put together an inventory list of "anything that would not fit in a box", and they estimated the number of boxes based on the size of our home. The estimate was $5,100. We paid a $515deposit in advance based on that estimate. We were consistently told before the move, and even afterwards, that the estimate is usually within5-10% of the quoted price, and that it was unusual that we paid so much more. While the final inventory list of what was picked up is hand written and hard to decipher, no staff member has been able to point to discrepancies between what was picked up and what we told them we had in advance. We moved with approximately the same possessions, minus quite a few we sold to reduce cost before this move, in July 2021for $4300. Our final cost for this move was $8,900 (75% more than quoted). While several picture frames were broken, along with a dresser, and trashcan full of cleaning supplies never arrived (was found by dispatch and never sent to us), the true issue is the misleading information we got about cost. We were not told the final amount until our items were on the truck, a day before we would be driving 15 hours to our new location. Yes, they had us sign forms before packing the truck indicating the maximum possible cost, but with our timeline of moving, indicating the maximum possible cost, but with our timeline of moving, we had no options to adjust and still expected the cost to be close to the estimate. They have made no effort to resolve in good faith, offering only$75 for damaged items through their claims contract website. Ben, a dispatch manager, assured us that navigating the claims would lead to more discussion about reimbursement. read more

I used Big Shoulders moving the weekend of August 5th, 2022, house contents were delivered August 11th. I moved from Chicago Illinois suburb to Austin Texas. I was in a time constraint to move so I received quotes from multiple delivery companies. Two of the larger ones priced based on weight, Big Shoulders based it on space taken in the truck. I was told that this was a red flag, but they were $1000 cheaper and a local company, so I decided to give them my business. My initial estimate was $5100 after a detailed inventory was sent. On the day of while walking around showing the movers what was staying and going, most of what I said was ignored and they began packing everything. This included items I had set aside to sell or give away. I had to have them remove them from the truck. They were quick with the move, which was nice, but they left tape rolls and garbage all over the house. They wasted space as well, my daughter has a 3ft tall unicorn stuffed toy, to load this in the truck they put it in a full wardrobe box, by itself. The truck was full by the end. When trying to pay half the quote, I was told that due to the extra space taken it would be an extra charge of $4500. Truck was already closed and leaving when I was told this. So now my total was $9,600. I was stuck and paid $4000 to get the delivery going. Fast forward to move in day. After unpacking we discovered the 75" TV was broken, 48" tv was broken, my daughters' bikes were bent, and the key to my motorcycle was missing. Why they took it out to begin with is interesting. We discovered that they unpack the truck in a warehouse then pack it back up before they go out to delivery. The same size truck that arrived was packed much tighter withing the initial quote space. All I can do now is wait for the claims report to come back and I'm not too hopeful based on the service I've received so far. During the process, emails were sent to Joseph Baril, the initial person who gave me my quote. He never responded once to any inquiries. I only received notice, from Steven the dispatcher, after I had filed a claim. Please do not use this company, they will trap you and do what they need to ensure they waste as much space as possible in that truck so they can over charge you. read more

I didn't chose them - they were chosen as a subcontractor to move my stuff by the agent that I hired, and I had all the problems possible with them. Eventually they would hire someone else from the street and no capabilities to move things and you end up with broken dishes and furniture. read more

This was the worst possible move in every way. They lost or stole many big items, didnt keep track of where they were going or what items went where and double boxed things and charged me for the boxes they used to box my boxes. they come on strong with their initial sales call then hand you off to service group. I called weeks ahead of the move to say I needed to add a few things and have them dropped at storage. The person on the phone had to be stoned. He couldn't get anything I was saying. I kept trying to clarify but no hope. I called next day because I knew he had it all wrong and got someone who sounded good but still did not put in any info. Allegiance then hired Big Shoulders to actually do the move. They showed up with none of the right info. I corrected info and asked them how they would indicate the few items to be dropped separately at a storage unit and they said not to worry. I had most my things in Uhaul purchased moving boxes and sealed them and had them ready. They put my boxes into their boxes then charged me for all the boxes and tape they used to ounce box my items. Then they did not identify any of the items to go to storage so when the next team they handed off to arrived at my new door they had no idea what they were doing. They called me on their way and I repeated over and over again about the separate drop but I don't think they spoke English well enough and just kept saying it was fine. They arrived and still acted as if they knew nothing even after my updates on the phone. Then one of them took me in the hall away from others to try to get me to pay him $150 to continue the move. In the end I had to move all the items to the storage unit -the items that weren't missing. Then when I tried to call (while unloading the truck myself) to ask where the rest of my things were they kept putting me off saying they were looking. I kept called and they kept saying they were looking. Then I called a different number and they said to file a claim. do not use this company for Moving. they provided a "platinum full service move" which was over double the initial quote, I paid for the movers to move thinge that did not get moved, they did not take everything that needed to be moved, nothing was properly packaged. I am missing approximately 1/4 of my clothing, all of my furniture has been damaged to some extent, my bedroom firniture must be replaced due to the damage. I had a guarteened delivery date and the company failed to deliver or make any arrangements to remedy the situation. the movers delivered someone else's golf clubs and still have not provided me with shipping labels or information. needless to say, my experience with this company was a nightmare. read more

We had a large move from St. Paul to South Carolina. 1/2 was going into storage, 1/2 into a smaller home. The packers arrived 4 days before the truck and they promptly packed up our home quickly and efficiently. They were kind, friendly and easy to work with. We had indicated what needed to go into the house and what into storage, there were some items that got mixed up, but not bad. They worked hard the entire time. The truck arrived in South Carolina in 3 days. The driver communicated with me and arrived on time. He was supposed to have 4 helpers unload (he drove with 1 other person), but only 2 arrived, so they worked just as hard as the 2 helpers. There were no complaints (it was hot) and everyone worked. There was 1 damaged dresser (it had a glass top) and the glass to a poster, so far that was it. I would definitely use them again. read more

I used Big Shoulders for a cross country move from Indiana to California, and this was, by far, the worst moving experience I've ever had. I've been in the Army for 17 years and have had full service moves over a dozen times, and this was just awful. The movers, both the ones who packed my belongings as well as the ones who loaded my belongings on the truck for the move, showed absolutely no concern for my things. When my belongings arrived, almost half of the boxes were dented or caved in, and my 55-inch television was destroyed, for which I would only get about 15 dollars for reimbursement since they only pay $0.60 per pound, regardless of value. Since almost all of my belongings were put into storage, I have no way of knowing how much more of my property has been ruined, but I know for sure that I will never use this company again. read more

I echo every horrible review written about this company. Their service was abhorrent, so many items arrived damaged and broken beyond repair, specifically items we paid extra for them to pack. Among them, a $2,000 tv, $1,200 smoker, ceramic plates, a dart board, among others. For all of these damaged items, we received $50. These people are criminals and I would never ever recommend them to anyone and hope to see them out of business as soon as possible so they cannot steal from anyone else. read more

I had a bad experience with my move for interstate move. Initially they did good job for pickup but delivery was worst experience. The team took more than 1 month to deliver and also asked me to pay additional amount more than what was initially agreed at the time of delivery. The delivery team said, they will not unload the items if I don't pay what is written in the envelope, which disturbed me a lot mentally. After multiple discussions, showing the agreement and giving extra payment the team unloaded the items. Moreover, a new purchased king size mattress was missing and a table got damaged too. Later when I contacted the office they asked me to file a claim but no response after that. I see similar complaints from others as well in the recent moves. In our case, it was for transferring to a smaller truck, even though we confirmed in advance that a big rig could fit while unloading. The movers also got grease stains all over the carpet that cannot be removed. I would advise those who got screwed to file complaints with the BBB and DOT (Illinois and federal). read more

Not only were they extremely unprofessional, they lied to me about when I should expect my delivery!! They kept pushing my delivery date which caused a MAJOR inconvenience for us! We had to cancel flights which cost us over $750 because they kept changing our delivery dates. When I talked to customer service he constantly lied about the delivery date, he was extremely rude, and beyond unprofessional. In the past week they have been working with us to reimburse us our money. The owner paid a small amount upfront and has assured us we will get our money back. BEWARE OF THE HIDDEN COSTS! Disgustingly horrible ripoffs. This company and the broker company Priceline Logistics have found their match. I spoke with Ben for 19 minutes discussing the details of the move 24 hours before the pickup which included the amount of space we had and number of items. He never mentioned extra steps etc. As soon as PEDRO arrived he immediately tried to charge an additional $350, he said we had 9 boxes instead of 7. Remember all was confirmed with Ben the day before on what we had. We also had 286 sq ft so technically we can put whatever we want in that space. PLEASE READ THE FORMS BEFORE SIGNING, this is important. They charge $75 per step after the 5th step which may run an additional $1000. Make sure the mover crosses that part off of the form if you do not need help moving your items up stairs, have him initial and date that section. Next, he wanted cash or postal money order. That was not going to happen. We used our credit card as proof of payment. We took pictures of the truck and property before and after also including all the forms. Now MANNY the driver sent us a text saying our final payment is $1007 instead of $562 which was reconfirmed with Marlene twice from Big Shoulders. MANNY told us Big Shoulders had not paid him and the box to carry the items were checked off. When we told him we had photos of the original documents and checking off the box is forgery and a federal offense especially since a credit card was used, he changed his tune. I then called Marlene back and she said our final payment is indeed $562 and MANNY is trying to get extra money from us. We are also consulting with our business attorney since this is definitely a legal issue. If reviewers want to see the text from Manny, or the original forms please reach. If all consumers read the paperwork like we did, this will save you thousands. I will follow up this email once we receive our items in 3-4 days.
