The first step to changing your name (in my case, marriage) is to first change with Social Security, in person. When I discovered that you can go to any office in the state, I decided to give Pawtucket a try just after they opened at 9, fearing the worst and clearing my calendar of obligations for the morning. It looks like I imagine the Social Security Office where Carol, Marcia, Jan and Cindy might have walked into when they changed their name to Brady. There was only one person in front of me, and then I sashayed up with my documents, slid them under the glass, and DONE in 10 minutes.

Space wise in this office isn't really as big just like 9 computers with employees. Some of them are empty and it's depends on how fast each transaction is with each person they are dealing with. I waited like probably less than or almost an hour for mine and the transaction is pretty straight forward so it only took me like 10 mins max and I was able to leave the place. Next I called them to discuss and my particular need had to be transacted in person for security. I appreciate they are trying to keep my info safe. (insert wonky face emoji) And so I find myself at the SSA in Warwick. It's a large building. Plenty of parking with handicap spots close to the entrance. GPS took me to the correct parking area. Located on the ground floor, turn right inside the entrance and they are the first door on the right. A security guard is across from the entrance. On the left is a kiosk where you sign in. Answer a few questions about your visit and a ticket with a number will print out. Have a seat in their large waiting area and keep an eye on the monitor on the front wall. The left side of the screen displays what numbers are being served and where. There is no audio que that a new number has been updated, you have to keep checking. When my number came up on the screen I walked back to a row of office cubicles and entered the room number listed on the monitor. I presented my drivers license and let them know what I needed. The staff member was very pleasant, smiled, answered my questions. They entered some info into the computer, let me know what to expect and I was on my way in minutes. The office was not busy when I arrived and I was in and out in about 15 minutes having achieved my goal. Yay. I appreciate the friendly, efficient resolution.

Decent amount of parking, you walk right in and the security guy is right there, with a warm greeting and points you to the kiosk where you check in. Very easy process, you get a number and sit and wait. They have this screen that shows you what number is next, if you aren't paying attention, they'll say your number over the intercom and then you'll know. The worker was eh, she was very blah and boring and seemed uninterested. She also talked very low, so I couldn't hear her much. But after a few minutes she opened up and smiled some but not much. Yesterday, I had to speak to someone at the Attleboro SSA office in person due to an…read moreadministrative error. Apparently, stating in a very ordinary voice "this document says page 1 of 2" was a personal criticism of the representative, who also told me she was ' just covering lunch' and 'all she was hearing was no from me.' I had already called the local number and explained the situation (the call was routed to Providence) and that representative seemed to understand the 2 issues I had almost immediately and advised me to go in person and tell that office 2 very specific things to remedy the issues. The representative at the office was rude and unwilling to listen to anything I had to say---including that the Payment Office had not yet processed and adjustment that the local office had already made a year and a half earlier. She saw that there was an adjustment, and when I tried to explain that that was a different adjustment and not what I was referring to, I again heard 'there you go saying no again.' Previously, I had to meet with someone for a Conference and that person (whose name is absolutely logged into their system) handed me a document to complete and leave on the desk for further review. Wendy, the representative yesterday, essentially told me that this didn't happen since it was not part of the conference process and that no such document was scanned into my file. I can understand that someone may have made an error (of which there have been many), but to essentially tell me that what I reported didn't happen was next level. No actual assistance was given, other than handing me a form and again, rudeness when I asked about the process. She also stated that SSA could not tell anyone which form to complete, which is of course absurd. Then I was told she'd spent a half hour with me, she had a meeting and "you have a good day." Obviously, I need to find another method of resolving my issue, which is the entire point of the local office's existence. I am still shocked at the awfulness of this interaction. It was absolutely insane.

The security guard greeted us pleasantly and asked us to generate a ticket from the machine. We got our ticket and sat down and waited perhaps 15 minutes for our number to be called. I noticed that several people entered after us without a mask and the guard was very polite to them and provided them with masks. The representative who assisted was professional and was able to help. We were told that the Social Security card we were requesting would arrive within two weeks and were given a document to verify we had submitted the application. I was very impressed with the professionalism of everyone there. We were in and out in less than a half of an hour. However, we noticed as we left that the crowd in the waiting room was growing.

There's another lot about a 5 minute walk away if you pass the first one and there are also small lots all along the waterline. They have events here often. You can get tickets to be on this battleship on the Fourth of July and watch the fireworks from there. It's a great walk around the battleship just be aware it can get really hot inside if it's a hot day. Ice cream, snacks and alcohol served at the carousel nearby.
