After paying for a private transport I was told we were stopping to pick someone else to share a ride . not what I agreed to or paid for.

Like many things on Yelp that I never thought I'd end up reviewing, along comes Midwood Ambulance…read moreService. I spotted them a couple years back when I was visiting family in a hospital and noticed they weren't affiliated with the hospital and had their own staff handling things. When it came time to transport another family member who was looking for a scheduled pickup, this was the service that I felt could do it without fuss. They were on time and they were professional and had some pretty top notch equipment to help the process go smoothly. The crew were a nice couple of guys, who were thorough in their questioning but came prepared. They were considerate enough to let me sit in the front to accompany my ailing family member, which was a pretty interesting experience to say the least. By the time they arrived at the hospital (which going from one borough to another is never an easy feat ... in traffic), they were delicate and tedious with how they handled everything. There was no time that was off the table and they made the process seem pretty easy overall.

The transportation was scheduled to pick up my 91 year old father @ 8p.m. he was waiting for hours…read moreand was packed up at 2:45a,m! I called Midwood customer service several times and each customer service rep was nonchalant and Very rude! They absolutely have no empathy or consideration for the sick or their family. If you care for your loved ones, Do not use this company for any transportation services! The decent reviews posted must be friends of the company, I've used this company several times for my fathers discharge from the hospital (not by choice) they are contracted with the hospital and the horrible service remains consistent! This last time was just out of Control and Unacceptable!!!!!!!!!!!

It is located on the 2nd floor of Omni Rehab office building in Midwood, Brooklyn, NYC. Applicants are seen by appointment only which the scheduled appointment date is written on the mail-in application upon calling to request an application with customer ID/reference number. There is a nurse aide who makes a visual physical assessment for evaluation which applicants walk for the power of observation in body language. Health and aging affects the ability for mobility to walk from gaining access for using standard public transportation services. Customers must recertify every five (5) years for paratransit transportation services to be attained where this office also conducts. Access-A-Ride is under NYS MTA's entity. Eligibility categories: Full Conditional Continual Full Temporary Conditional Temporary Ineligible With my family member who is first time applicant, I accompanied to the appointment which is similar going to NYS DMV (aka office of HELL). A decision on your qualification will be mailed within twenty one (21) days after your visit to the assessment center. If denied eligibility or given conditional eligibility, applicants have a right to appeal the decision within 60 days of notification. Appeals may be in writing or in person. Upon our in-person interview completion, a Paratransit ride was requested and scheduled for pick-up at this Midwood, Brooklyn office directly to our home. I rate two Yelp stars due to perpetually waiting for pick-up from our home as the car arrived very late, waiting nearly two hours delayed to be interviewed, followed by waiting for pick-up from Eligibility Unit to home, and finally the drive home which was shared with an existing Access-A-Ride customer further the delay. My round-trip ride was not smooth. I became car sick and retire to bed super early feeling nausea dizzy. The drivers intentionally take the long route side streets rather than the shortest route via a major boulevard followed by Belt Parkway in Brooklyn. Access-A-Ride contracts with private paid vendors as Corporate Transportation Group for their rides. The actual interview was a mere ten (10) minutes. Many of the questions are realistic and necessary to determine medically necessary, distance from applicants' home to destinations, naming and disclosing any known medical health that prevents mobility. Interview questions are: How far is the nearest subway station from your home? Can you walk to the subway platform station? Are there stairs? Is it ADA accessible? How far is the nearest bus stop from your home? Can you climb that one large step to board the bus? How frequent do you take the subway? How frequent do you take the bus? What aliments/illness do you have? Do you have steps on the exterior of your home? Do you travel alone now? Do you require a Personal Care Attendant (PCA) when travelling? Are you visually impaired? Language Bank services are readily available by phone for interpretation during the in-person interview. The receptionist is excellent and professional who assisted with making an extension to our ride reservation because the interview was very delayed. The receptionist listened as a witness my entire phone call for ride pick-up and listened to the customer service representative being extremely rude and made a complaint on our behalf. Five Yelp stars for Access-A-Ride Eligibility Unit receptionist - separately than this review. Nota Bene: Access-A-Ride (AAR) Paratransit Service operates: 24/7 @ 365 days a year. Reserving AAR ride call (877) 337-2017.
