I grew up in Muskegon and ate my first US 31 BBQ pork sandwich in 1962 when they sponsored my buddy's (Bunny Donnegan) pee wee football team. I was hooked and every time I come back to Muskegon I pick up a box for take out or eat in a booth with one of their great milkshakes! I hope they stay open forever because I can't imagine coming back to Muskegon and not stopping there. As for those who complain about it being soggy??? That's what makes them so great and delicious!!!

This place is a Muskegon institution, started in 1939. It's a small place with a long bar to eat at and 6 booths. They serve one sandwich BBQ with your choice of pork, beef, ham or all 3. Unusual sauce, unique to this place. No other sandwiches, burgers, entrees. They stick to the one meal. On the side you can also get chili or soup, fries or chips, pie, ice cream and drinks. Really reasonable prices. The BBQ seems to be love it or hate it. My husband and his family love it. It's not my favorite, but I will always stop here because it is family tradition.

A Muskegon classic did not disappoint. Oh, and the waitress was super nice.

Food is not good. Several bad google reviews about toothpicks in the meat, no refills...all in all just a waste of time

Awesome sandwiches, fries, shakes, and desserts. Stop here whenever I'm in downtown around lunch time.

I didn't appreciate this place until I was a teen, and love it now. Messy but worth it! I love the old "malt shop" like atmosphere.

From my experience, when you just order a pork bbq, it is slopped onto the bun, which makes the bun very soggy...

I appreciated my old fashioned (the bartender that night said she loved making them, and you could tell!), that the incredibly generous bartender *also* hooked me up with a huge skewer of olives when I jokingly told her I was too far from the ocean here in Michigan and my salt levels felt low (what a cute interaction!), and the banter at the bar from both her and the other customers seemed both organic and lively. If you're coming here for food and you're vegan... good luck. I ordered a basket of french fries and while they were abundant and moreish, they were also underseasoned (and I don't know for sure they were vegan).

We love the bar and the overall feel of the bar area. It's different than anything else in the area. We arrived around 8pm on Sunday, 10/27/24 and sat at the bar. Lisa took such good care of us. For starters I had the French soup and he had the Caesar - minus red onion. The soup was everything I wanted it to be. The croutons were sourdough and that was nice twist. The Caesar was different. It had tomatoes, Kalamata olives, red onion and Parmesan crisps. We both thought the dressing had a very strong anchovy flavor, more than any other dressing either of us have had. He said he would get it again, I would not. We split the Chicken Milanese and the kitchen was kind enough to put it on 2 plates! And they didn't charge us! We both really liked the pasta dish. The chicken was pan fried, the perfect crunch on the outside, well seasoned and the chicken was moist and tender. The pasta in lemon sauce was light and had delightful flavor. This was one of our best experiences at Walker's. It's always been good, but tonight was great.

Especially considering one of our omelets wasn't cooked through fully. That was disappointing after hearing so many good things about the breakfast here. I could be persuaded to try it again as again the food was pretty good.

We sat at the bar (as always) and Sarah took great care of us (as always). AND, because it was Saturday I could order the stuffed hash browns! I had never heard of this delight until I started visiting Michigan. Shredded hash browns with sautéed veggies and breakfast meat, cheese and either ranch dressing or sour cream. This was the first time I've ordered them here, and I was REAL happy with my order! I went with the 1/2 order - and it was a lot of food. Ham, bacon, onions, peppers, cheese and I subbed sour cream for the ranch and added 2 over easy eggs. My Mr had the all meat omelette and really enjoyed it. Our toast was hot and buttery. We come to Whitlow's A LOT. It is our favorite breakfast place when we want classic breakfast. There is nothing fancy, but everything is really good. And their prices are very reasonable.

Next time we will sit outside because it looked so nice out there. We had a table next to the window and the views were so pretty. Our server Tim stopped by right away and I asked him to surprise me with a cocktail. He picked me out the perfect drink! It was called Smoke, Spice and Everything Nice. It was sweet, it was spicy, and it was a little bit salty. It was SO good! Thank you, Tim! My husband had the schnitzel and I ordered the special of the ribeye steak. My husband said his meal was amazing and that the mashed potatoes were perfect he also loved the sauce on his schnitzel. He wished there was more sauce because it was so good. He also subbed out the mixed veggies for Cole slow and he enjoyed it. My ribeye came with asparagus and roasted potatoes. Everything was cooked and seasoned perfectly. My steak had the perfect char and was cooked to a perfect medium. I didn't have to add salt to anything. My steak had a pimento cheese on top and ohhh my goodness did it add a whole other element to my steak. It was so flavorful and the texture was so good. Tim was a GEM! His personality is so fun. We chatted about our upcoming trip and he gave us some recommendations. LOVED him! We can't wait to be back!
