Being a burger joint, we obviously ordered everything but the burgers lol. We had a long trip ahead and didn't wanna feel too greasy but looking over at other tables later, the burgers looked delicious. I got the peach salad that came with curried pumpkin seeds and shredded asiago and croutons. I added grilled chicken for $4. I wished there were some fresh peaches on it but the salad was tossed in a peach dressing instead. The croutons also tasted like fried pieces of sandwich bread. I will say, I was so pleasantly surprised by how delicious this salad was! Holy cow, after a few days of camping, having vegetables was one thing, having this salad changed my outlook on life. My fiancé was a little saddened by the fact that we will be no where near this place (from Connecticut) becuase he thoroughly enjoyed his brisket wrap. Maybe it's the Mid Western charm and hospitality, but our experience was so great. After getting the bill, our waiter (who had two colored socks on and my friend thought he only had one, but alas, one sock was just black while the other was a hot pink) offered us our drinks to go and brought us back a full cup of iced tea and Dr Pepper. Our table of four left with a $70 bill which was fantastic, given that the food also satiated us to the best degree. All the way from CT, I wanna say: thank you Michigan. And thank you to the Gnarly Heifer, even though we did not taste your Heif.

First of all, I'm not usually one to review food from my own hometown. Much like a sweet food made…read morefrom fruit and sugar boiled to thick constancy that doesn't belong to me, it's not my jam. But I'm beginning to think it's one thing to review a local eatery that isn't your typical franchise owned restaurant just might not be a bad idea. I saw this place open up late summer and logged it away in the Restaurants I Want to Try (But Will Probably Forget About) folder. Well guess what. I remembered. The real reason is partly because I was introduced to a real Chicago dog while on a food trip in the Windy City. So now was my opportunity to try a Chicago dog from somewhere NOT Chicago. Also, I saw they served Italian beefs. Or is it beeves? And we all know I'm an 18th century street walker for some Italian beeves. Its location is pretty spot on for a place like this. Lakeside, is what it's called. The area. Not the restaurant. Pay attention. Inside is spacious and clean. Plenty of booths (boofs? Booves?) for hotdog consumption. It's an order at the counter type of place. Classic restaurant. I ordered a Chi Dog with a side of chili cheese fries. Did you see the photos of that dog? It tastes exactly like it looked. Like magic. Dog, tomato slice, pickle spear, sports peppers, relish, mustard. I grew WAY up since just ketchup. But I still haven't grown out of eating cold hotdogs. Nothing beats a midnight snack of a cold dog. Anyways. This thing is a beast. Not for the faint of heart or tiny of mouth. This is one of those dogs that once you start eating, you can't put it down because it's just so messy. In a beautiful way. True story coming up, my first bite launched my pickle spear out the tail end of my dog. I might lie about a lot of things, but never the evacuation of a pickle from a hotdog. If you like Chicago or hotdogs or food or things in general, get this dog. My side order of chili cheese fries looked like something out of an art gallery. They used crinkle cut fries, which are god tier fries. They also loaded it up with chili, which I feel everybody else usually lacks what the "proper" amount of chili is. But I will sadly have to dock a point or two for Chili Flavor. It seemed to lack a little bit of...something. It tasted better than plain ground beef, but something a little under chili. It wasn't bad at all. It's meat and cheese on fries. They were more Chili Adjacent Cheese Fries. The Detroit City soda is refreshing. Let me mention, when ordering an Italian beef, it is a bit spicy. You can omit the hot giardiniera though. Try it for yourself, you won't regret it!

My cousin and I sat at the bar, and you can get full service at the bar. She ordered a hot dog and I had a pizza. The hot dog came with that weird neon relish, in typical Chicago fashion, and was on a poppyseed bun. The fries are crinkle cut, and I don't know what seasoning they use, but it was so good! A little sweetness mixed in with the spices. The pizza was good; thin crust and cut square style like they do in Chicago, which I forgot about and kind of hate. I should've asked for silverware, but didn't. Next time I'd ask for it pie cut instead. The flavor was really good though. It was a bit pricey for what it was - it was a 12" pizza, and each topping an additional $3. $21 just seems high to me for a thin crust pepperoni mushroom pizza. I had draft beer and my cousin had a mixed drink. She had no complaints about hers, and mine was quite good! So many places draft beer tastes a little soapy, whether it's the way the clean their lines or how they wash their glasses, but I didn't taste any of that here. There aren't many choices on draft but was a good variety. They also have a full bar and lots of canned beverage choices. They don't have the healthiest menu, but that's not surprising since they're known for Chicago hot dogs, Italian beef, and pizza. If you know what you're going for it's perfect! The vibe is good. The space is pretty open, gets a decent amount of light, is clean, and there is parking! The restrooms are tiny, but clean, and I appreciate that after you wash your hands the door opens out so you don't have to touch a handle. We went on a Monday after work, which does turn into karaoke night, but we had time for a couple drinks and food before that really got going. It also wasn't crazy in there and we could still carry on a conversation at the bar without having to yell. I'm glad I finally made it in, and fully appreciate having them in the North Monroe area. I will definitely plan to have more happy hours here!
