The Deck has amazing vibes being right on the Lake Michigan shoreline. This beach bar sits right next to Pere Marquette Beach and Muskegon South Lighthouse; sharing a parking lot with both. It's $10 parking for the day or free on Wednesdays! But, this is of no fault of the business since parking is managed by the city. My crew and I enjoyed a day at the beach then made our way over to the Deck for dinner. The Deck didn't take reservations however getting on their waitlist was easy. While waiting for your table, you can wait inside and grab a drink. Within 10 minutes we were notified and seated. The summer vibes were unmatched. There is a stage for live bands to play, plenty of seating including adirondack chairs and swings, and outdoor games like foosball, connect four, jenga, and cornhole. Despite the trendy atmosphere, our food was underwhelming. We ordered the Crispy Chicken Strips and Hand-Battered Walleye. The chicken was dry and the walleye slider was flavorless. I'd definitely come again, but eat before and stick to the drinks. read more

Out of town and down in the area, needed to grab a quick bite. They have a window to the left side where you can order on the go and on the right side is the deck where a hostess will seat you. This place is in a touristy location but we were still able to walk up and get a seat instantly. We ordered some pina coladas, shrimp ceviche and tacos. The pina coladas come in cool color changing cups; not sure if you can keep them, and the shrimp ceviche was fresh and flavorful. I didn't really care for my smoked tacos and wish they offered more grilled fish options for the tacos. The waitress was super friendly and even offered to replace it with something else for me. I would say the overall environment is somewhere between a touristy family restaurant and a college beach bar. read more

From the super summery drinks (get yours in a cute little plastic pail!) and outdoor barbecue noms, to the smashing sounds of the live bands, it's hard not to have a good time here. This was an awesome place to check out when in the area! Lots to do here- live music, watch the sunset, play games, grab a drink, play volleyball. The vibes were 10/10 and also kid friendly. The upper deck is seated service but the lower level you can walk up and order drinks. Drinks were definitely on the sugary side but they came in a fun color changing souvenir cup. First off- this location is amazing- we tried to come on a weekend and said "nope," and came back during the week. We got in a gorgeous walk and then stopped here for lunch. The service was fantastic, honestly, some of the best service we've had in Michigan for sure. Attentive, friendly, made good recommendations and just kind. The restaurant itself is beautiful and huge. It has tons of seating, swings overlooking the water and it's definitely a great bar vibe that you want to check out if you're in the area. The food was okay, that's the reason for 4/5 stars. We would go back, but probably just do appetizers and drinks and enjoy the view. If you're in the area, it's worth a visit for sure. read more

Everyone tells you to hit this place as a tourist and I can't deny the views on a warm day are great. They have swings below on the beach. Make sure to plus the meter because we got a ticket in five minutes. Had the smoked wings with the sides. Opted for the smoked beans which were delightful. Not too smokey just the right amount. Got the fries and Mac and cheese which also were good. Server was sweet because we forgot our food and he ran it out to us. He was newer and didn't know the menu but was very nice. The long island iced tea bucket isn't horribly strong and it's a great deal so get a bucket drink!! read more

Quite the hidden gem in Michigan, although probably not hidden if you were from the area. We went to "the deck" to see the band leaving lifted. The Deck is basically a multi level deck with all outside seating and right on the beach. It is in an incredible spot to listen to music, have some food, and watch the sunset. The food is somewhat odd for a beach spot. Normally, beach spots feature lighter fare, but the deck does BBQ and it does it well. We had the BBQ sample platter which had a turkey leg, brisket, pork, chicken and 3 sides, which was plenty for 2 people. We were impressed by the quality. The drinks were excellent and definitely fit the beach vibe. Rum runners, margaritas, and the like. Service was fantastic, our waiter Tristan, was always around when needed and he was very accommodating for me as I liked to leave out table and watch the band. But parking is crazy. I pay yearly for a state park pass and I thought I had a season pass. Turned out I was wrong. The parking ticket cost me $30.00. So that is the last time I will eat there. The Deck in Muskegon has incredible views being right on the beach. The vibe is unmatched with swinging chairs, lots of adirondack chairs, large sand games like connect four and jenga, and while we came mid-day on a Monday, we can imagine how lively it can get with their live music nightly. We really loved the swinging chairs and giant buckets of cocktails, we tried the Spicy Mango Tequila and the Pulled Pork Nachos split for two. Despite how amazing the location is, our experience of the food was underwhelming for the price. We split the pulled pork nachos and were pretty disappointed that is barely had any meat and no alternative protein like bean to balance the heavy cheese, overall not a great value. You're paying more for the atmosphere than the meal and if we were to do it over, we would just stick with the drink. Parking here was shocking, $10 for the day is the only option, no option to do an hourly rate for an area that doesn't have much going on. We were able to walk down and see the Lighthouse, which helped us feel better about spending that to park. It says Wednesdays has free parking! read more

We love the deck!! We come back every time we are in town. The cocktails are great and come in a color changing cup that you can take with you. He got a Miami vice and I got a lavender lemonade mocktail. Both were great! We always get the meat and 3 sides. It's our favorite! We got the hot honey chicken with pit beans, Mac and cheese, and sweet potato fries. I dip the fries in the deck sauce - so good!! The Mac and cheese was creamy and cheesy. The portions are huge so we share it and take some home. Our service was excellent! Emma was knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. You can't beat the ambiance. You have an epic view of Lake Michigan. It was a little chilly when we went but they had heaters since all seating is outside. You have to pay to park but parking is right outside the door of the restaurant. We will see you again soon! read more

I could sit at The Deck all day. I HAVE sat at The Deck all day! This place might be one of my most favorite places in MI. After a big day at the beach, to be able to walk over and get drinks and food and just relax and watch the sun set or listen to live music... it's just the best. The food is well-made and the menu is diverse but not crazy, exactly the kind of food you'd want in that environment. Considering how busy this place normally is, I have never had bad service in the 5 years I've been going there. My fiancé and I visited The Deck on a weekend trip from Indianapolis. They were super excited about it being close to Lake Michigan, and liked the menu offerings. I was worried it would be more of a tourist trap type restaurant, with sub par food, but was impressed! It was very busy when we visited, but we only waited about 20 minutes for a table. It was crowded inside, and a little loud, but I never once felt like our server was too busy to check in on us. Being able to see the sunset in the distance definitely took my mind off of how busy the restaurant was. I visited the bathroom once during our time there, and it definitely needed a little bit of help. There was some trash on the floor, and water on the counters. We ordered the Dirty Nachos to share and a couple of sliders. I'm a sucker for anything with sweet potato fries, so these were incredible. There were large pieces of pulled pork on the fried that was so smokey and delicious! The salsa also stepped up the flavors. The sliders we got were good, but definitely outweighed by the 10/10 nachos. All in all, I'm glad we ended up coming here, and would recommend it to others looking for a good view and great food! read more

I cannot believe how fast our food came out, literally gave the waitress the food order and she went into the kitchen and brought it right out- I've never experienced this before - all the food was fresh too! Whoever is running this place really has it down pat, I was impressed, they were cranking out orders and had suffice t amount of staff to help! We started with the nachos and added brisket - these were okay, something I didn't love but I'm not sure it was possibly the queso on it. The nachos were a very nice size. For dinner I just ordered French fries which were amazing . I loved the dipping sauce they gave with them - it was sweet almost like a creamy honey bbq. My friend got a hot honey chicken bowl and liked it . I did not try it because I cannot have spice. I ordered a frozen piña colada and it did not taste or feel like it had any alcohol in it ( I'm a lightweight so usually I would feel a little buzz and I didn't). The piña colada was very sweet. My friend got a spicy mango drink she said it was good. Both of these drinks came in a color changing plastic glass that we got to keep. Obviously the views amazing with the lake ( I felt like I was in California) and there was a reggae style band playing the entire time we were there. Our server was very prompt and nice- she was adorable. I would definitely bring people back here for the experience, not necessarily for the frozen drinks or the food, although I should try some more things on their menu. read more

The food was pretty good, well-portioned, and a bit pricey for my taste. But again, I felt like I was at a Florida waterfront restaurant. I recommend the brussel sprouts appetizer, which could be an entree for a vegetarian or brussel sprouts mega fan. If someone invites me to The Deck again, I'll say yes as long as we get to sit at one of the tables with swings. read more

A cool spot with a great location. It's definitely more of a bar atmosphere than I expected but it was still fun for the whole family. Security everywhere, ID's being check at the door even at 5pm on a Tuesday. They have it down to a science on how to provide quick service. Drinks are all ordered at the bar and everyone is ID'd before you enter the property so it saves time in line. The food is ordered from a different window, or from your phone. The food is ready much faster than we expected but then you have to go pick it up from the takeout window, and everything is in togo packaging. The drinks were fine but overpriced as expected. The frozen drinks melted fast which seemed weird because I've had similar drinks in tropical areas and they stay frozen much longer The food was all decent. We shared a bunch of apps and a few people got full meals. The menu has a BBQ theme but there was a lot to choose from that wasn't pure BBQ. The live music was great and their schedule is posted all over the place and it's packed! Parking is pretty expensive and they had people walking around writing tickets constantly. It would be nice if they let you pay on a mobile app rather than wait in line at a kiosk. We had to pay $7 for an hour and a half. Overall, fun/unique spot. We will come back. read more

The vibes here are where it's at! This is one of my favorite places to come during the summer to chill with friends and get some drinks. There are so many cool seating options including beach chairs down by the stage, regular picnic tables, picnic tables with swings and swings on the catwalks overlooking the courtyard below. The rest of the seating is reserved for those dining. There are also plenty of activities to do! They have giant jenga, foosball, corn hole, and a giant connect 4. They also have live music quite often. Their mixed drinks are always so good! And they come in washable cups you can take home or buckets depending on which size you get. They are a bit pricey for those, but they are worth it! They also have cans of beer and seltzers and those are very reasonably priced. Overall, I don't love the food. I think my favorite thing to eat, if I'm going to, are the sweet potato waffle fries. Everything else is just decent in my opinion. The staff is always great though! I've never had a bad experience with them. The only downside is parking and waiting. It might take awhile to find a parking spot, and if you're not from the city of Muskegon, you have to pay for parking. It isn't very expensive, and it's cheaper to pay for the parking than to pay the parking ticket you'll get for not doing it! The wait to get a table if you are dining can also get quite long. Even if you aren't eating, there are some nights it's so busy there are no chairs left. So bring a folding chair just to be safe! read more

We had a tasty dinner at The Deck. Our kids really enjoyed that the kids meal is served on a frisbee! They even had fun non-alcoholic drinks for kids. We loved that it is right by the water- great setting. The food was tasty! I got the pulled park tacos and really enjoyed them. My husband got the meat and three sides. The Deck was a bit of a drive from my area BUT..... it is worth every second of that drive! The whimsical beach restaurant aura was present throughout the whole place- from the upper deck, with tables overseeing the lake, but also the option of swings to sit on, to the venue area, with more swings, tables, sandy areas, cornhole, and of course, the stage, where we were fortunate enough to see Yonder Mountain String Band! If the venue isn't enough, they also have great options of drinks to sip on, from yummy frozen cocktails, to buckets of beer. And, there's food!!! With options ranging from Nashville hot chicken sandwiches and burro bowls (both pictured), to tacos, briskets, macs, etc, they surely have something for you tastebuds! We sat in the concert venue and ordered from our table, then went to the takeout window to pick it up. The food was good, but we were a little bummer their nashville hot wasn't crispy chicken! The flavor was still good though. This place is a gold mine. If you haven't been here and experienced Muskegon's Beach you really need to get here. And this is the venue to take care of that. The people are nice they are well staffed and the menu is terrific. The atmosphere is fun and light and full of entertainment. This place actually popped up on facebook randomly and I was like hey we'll be by there in a few weeks! So I saved it and made sure we came here when on vacation and in this area. My fries were amazing and no idea what dipping sauces I had but they were amazing. I only wish I had been hungrier to try something more. What a well oiled machine! I kind of assumed with it being so big that things might be slow, not Friendly staff. I was wrong!! We joined the waitlist while we were at the beach, so it was perfect. Our table was just about ready when we arrived. We got to sit right by the swings which was fun for our kiddo. The live music was great! We loved that we got to bring out our dog! It was his first restaurant outing and we know he is already wanting to go back!!! The food was spectacular and came out at lightning speed which was amazing. We got pulled pork burra bowl and it was delicious the different flavors in just one bowl was incredible and made it taste amazing. We also got the 1 meat 3 side dish and picked pulled pork and for the sides I got the creamy coleslaw was decent, grandma's Mac n cheese was okay it was a little to bland for us and the deck fries were really good and had amazing seasoning and the had a great soft to crunchy ratio. And for food the last one is we got the summer samplers dish which had mango pico de gallo and regular pico de gallo and guacamole and a tomato salsa and queso and they were all great the guacamole had a little bit of spice but only if you got a jalapeno in your dip but overall is was a delicious dish. The drinks were great my kiddo got an non alcoholic strawberry daiquiri and I got Prosecco and it was very refreshing and my husband got and aperol spritz and he said it was so so the reason being was that there was to much Prosecco and not enough aperol but in all the drinks were really good. The ambiance was very cool, the swings and the live music were sweet. The only negatives would be it is a decently costing establishment, but that's what you get with a location & food quality like the deck.
