    Hair in food
    Jillian T.

Found a hair in my salad today. I had to stop eating it and throw the whole thing away, which was really disappointing because the food actually tasted good up until that point. I understand mistakes happen, but this is a basic food safety issue and shouldn't be overlooked. Hoping the team pays closer attention to hygiene moving forward. Update: The restaurant reached out and issued a full refund for my order. I appreciate them taking responsibility and resolving the issue quickly. While the experience was concerning, their customer service was responsive. +1 extra star

As I've been trying to be healthier, my boyfriend gets dragged to eat bunny food with me. He found Urbane Café while we were running errands in West Cobina area to grab lunch. When we entered, there were 2 kiosks for customers to order from. After browsing their menu, my boyfriend decides on the Santa Maria BBQ Chicken ($12.95) with Chipotle Ranch dressing on the side, substituting the goat cheese for mozzarella cheese and I ordered The Café Salad ($12.75) with Balsamic dressing, substituting the goat cheese for mozzarella cheese, and no bread. Upon checking out with the kiosk, you enter one of the numbers for the orders by the kiosk, take the number with you and seat yourself at any table. A few of the tables were dirty, so we looked around until we found a clean one. The food was prepared in a decent amount of time. It tasted healthy. Nothing too exciting but it served its' purpose. At first they forgot the avocado from my salad and ended up bringing it on the side. Oh I'm also glad they put my dressing on the side even though I didn't ask for it to be because the container was too much dressing for the salad. Would consider coming back here for a healthy-ish meal. Not so much for enjoyment. The pricing is also reasonable for quality ingredients.

Seared Ahi Tuna Bowl, Salmon Bowl

Easy ordering experience and yummy food! Came here on a weeknight and was craving fish, so we ordered the seared ahi tuna bowl and a salmon bowl to share. Both were well portioned and very flavorful! Each bowl was about $16 after tax, but for the amount of food it was pretty worth the price. I also loved the focaccia- fresh and fluffy! You order on a self-serve tablet in the front (there are two), grab a table number, and sit anywhere in the restaurant. There's ample seating and a fair amount of lot parking (they share parking with Gen BBQ and California Fish Grill) so the whole experience was fairly easy! Would come back!

Everything was good and made to order. We got the salmon bowl with the aioli on the side and the other bowl is a protein bowl. Everything was cooked well, but my salmon was warm-room temp- wish it was hot. The salmon had a slide sweet and savory glaze The protein bowl was made very well and the plate was hot. We also got the kids pizza but my child did not like it as much, but he did enjoy the chicken from the protein bowl. The place is clean and the worker that took our order was very nice. All plates are a fair price and plates are a good size for one person.

Delicious food at fair prices! Love Urbane Cafe for its healthy options! This is my second time here, and this time I ordered the high protein bowl since I'm on a health and fitness kick! It's pretty delicious, and flavorful. What I like about this place is that it is spacious, and clean. The service here is friendly, and you can order in person, or via kiosk.

I've been here before, but I'm writing this review because I decided to give Urban Cafe another chance, and unfortunately it didn't change my mind. Overall, it's just nothing special. The food isn't bad by any means, but it's also not exciting or memorable, especially for the price. The portions are small for what you're paying, and that's really the biggest issue. Either the portion sizes need to increase or the prices need to come down, because right now it just doesn't feel worth it. This time I ordered the chimichurri steak and also tried the pastrami over the chimichurri steak. Both were fine, but nothing that made me want to come back or crave it again. The flavors didn't really pop, and nothing had that "wow" factor that makes you think about the meal later. The salad that comes with it was honestly a joke, especially considering the price point. I ordered through DoorDash because I didn't want to wait, and while the food arrived fine, it just reinforced that this place is more average than anything else. I will say the staff was very nice when I picked up my order, and it wasn't busy at the time, which I appreciated. Parking, however, was a bit frustrating. Even though it looks like there's front row parking in the photos, that was after I had already picked up my food and taken pictures. When I arrived, parking was a hassle and I had to park farther than expected just to grab my order. I really wish I could say this is a solid addition to West Covina, but I'd honestly rather drive a couple of minutes to Porto's and get an amazing sandwich that never fails and costs at least seven dollars less. Unfortunately, this just isn't a place I plan on coming back to. The ambient was good enough for people to dine in. There was a couple people I would say like four parties.

I ordered from here or eaten dine in a handful of times by now. My go to is the club or the bbq chicken sandwich. I really like the apple slaw on that one. The bread is always soft and fresh tasting, the ingredients in the sandwiches are well balanced, the side salad is a nice touch and a great addition to the meal. Service is always quick and friendly. The inside of the restaurant is kept clean, as well.

Lunch visit. They have two tablet style kiosks to place your order, or you can still order in-person, which is my preference (I like speaking with someone). The staff was friendly, the dining area was clean, and there's plenty of indoor seating, as well as some outdoor seating. Parking is plentiful in the private lot. The menu isn't huge, but they have a good selection of sandwiches and salads, as well as a Tomato Bisque and a soup of the day. The focaccia bread is baked fresh, and all the ingredients on the sandwiches were of good quality. My wife and I tried the Chimichurri Steak sandwich ($13.55), which comes with a small side salad dressed with a balsamic vinaigrette and mandarin orange slice, however we opted to substitute for a cup of soup (+$4.35). She had a cup of the Tomato Bisque (served warm), and I had the Baja Enchilada Soup, which was served hot and tasted fantastic! Our order came out quickly and except for the Tomato Bisque being "just warm", everything was very good. They offer "Batch Craft Soda" products and Coke/Diet Coke from a dispenser, as well as Old Fashioned Lemonade and two types of Agua Frescas. Overall, the service was good, the food was flavorful, and it's only 5 minutes from home, so I'm sure we'll be stopping by again.

Urbane cafe is sooooo good. I love everything about them. this is what panera is trying to be and they can't even come close. The salads are amazing and i recommend the cilantro chicken!! it also comes with a quarter slice of their focaccia, which is baked fresh everyday. I usually order an extra side of focaccia and their red pepper hummus to take home and have it as a snack the following day. Parking is shared , but there's plenty of it.

Love this place! this is the second time we experience this restaurant and it doesn't disappoint. I ordered through yelp/group hub, ordering was so easy. My guy ordered a southwest sandwich and I ordered the BBQ Tri tip and it was amazing. Also ordered dessert, the double chocolate chip cookie. When picking up the order the staff were nice and welcoming, very good vibes there. The order on the app said 4:40-5pm but it usually is ready 10 min before so I called in and for sure it was ready. I would recommend it's like a healthier option but a delicious one. They have plenty of options including soups and drinks. If you haven't tried the blood Orange drink I recommend it.

They are located in Haven City Market West Covina. When you walk in, its in the back right hand side. Not hard to find at all. I got their OG Beef Noodle Soup / 招牌牛肉汤面 $17.00 and added an braised egg for $2. The noodles were my favorite. Hand crafted perfection and had that chewy doughy bite I love when noodles have. Just the right amount of slurp-ability and a great chew to it. Their broth soup was very unique to me; it had an herbal taste and a rich and complex flavor to it. Their OG Beef Noodle Soup came with their braised beef shank, mustard greens, tomato, and bok choy - all the elements I am looking for in a beef noodle soup. I did have to add an egg though, for an extra $2, which was unexpected and a bit of a let-down for me. Their braised egg wasn't as flavorful and it seemed a bit dry in fact. I do love eggs especially with my noodles, and sometimes it can even be the star, so it was sad to me it didn't live up to be the $2 I paid. But that's okay! I would just come back here for just their fresh hand-crafted noodles - they are just that good! Like most of the restaurants at the market, I paid upfront and got a buzzer. It was ready in about 5 minutes and served hot and ready to dive in! The portion is huge so I even got to take about half home to enjoy at another time. It was even better re-warmed on my stove top the second time around. Shootout to the friendly staff here who are so genuinely kind. I witnessed a staff member helping another customer for about 10 minutes figure out what they wanted on the menu. They took the time to explain the menu and showed pictures, too. Just a very kind team here it seems! Thank you for the delicious beef noodle soup and your kind service. I will definitely be back soon!

For something that's supposed to be a more premium cut, it was a letdown. Did I still eat it? Yes. Did I tell my husband it was fine so he wouldn't feel bad about us spending that much? Also yes. I just didn't want to turn it into a whole thing over a meal that already felt like a waste. What made it harder to ignore was the overall condition of the place. The windows were dirty, things felt a bit unorganized, and the whole restaurant just had this worn-down, low-effort vibe. I don't usually pay much attention to ratings, but I did notice the B rating and, unfortunately, it matched how everything felt. There was even a fly around our table and food the whole time, which just made it worse. The sauces were really runny and didn't have much flavor, which is disappointing because that's such a big part of shabu. I do want to say the service itself wasn't bad the staff was kind but you could tell they weren't exactly happy to be there, and it kind of added to the overall energy. It just sucks because this is the only shabu spot in town, and I really wanted to like it. When you're paying $29-$39 per person, you expect a certain level of care and quality, and this just didn't feel like that. I really do hope they take feedback like this and improve. We ordered up front: - 1 shu mai (5 pieces) = $5.99 - 1 shrimp har gow (5 pieces) = $5.99 - 1 turnip cake = $5.69 - 1 rice noodle roll with shrimp = $5.69 - 1 steamed BBQ pork bun = $5.69 - 1 chow mein = FREE (if you spend $30+) As mentioned above, this location has a bunch of awesome specials such as a free drink (thai tea, iced lemon tea, etc.) if you spend $20+, OR get a free chow mein if you spend $30+). The chow mein portion was pretty generous too. We probably waited around 10-15 minutes for our order. The staff members ended up putting our order to-go containers, but I clarified that we intended to eat inside, but all good (at least we can take the plastic containers to go). The cashier stopped by our table and apologies for the miscommunication and gave us a lemon iced tea as part of service recovery. It was no big deal honestly. Overall a great experience and my mom really loved the shu mai. The shrimp har gow was small and didn't look/taste too authentic. They also serve complimentary tea which is great! I would totally come back here to support this small business - 5/5!!!

My food ordered came more than an hour late and had one order refunded due taking much longer! Ordered a combo with roasted pork ( subtituted a bbq pork ) and steamed chicken topped on steamed rice and fresh broccoli !! Meat were all bland and chicken had no flavor at all!! We shared pan fried chive cake which needed mor chive for taste! Came on a day that they got very busy so I would like to give it another try!!!
