I wasn't sure what to order at first, but the tall white man at the cashier was super helpful--he really knew the menu and helped me pick something based on what I was in the mood for. I ended up getting the pesto sandwich and it was fresh and really good. I left feeling really satisfied, both with the food and the overall experience. It's always nice when someone actually takes the time to help instead of just taking your order. Definitely coming back to try more! read more

This cafe is such a hidden gem in West Covina. Located behind the mall, they serve protein bowl, sandwiches, and cookies. The ambiance is chill and welcoming, as well as the friendly staff when they bring my order. I tried their pastrami tri-tip sandwich with the salad. The sandwich and the salad are elevated in both the presentation and the flavor. The sandwich has a huge size with thick layer of meat combined with coleslaw and swiss cheese that enhance the flavor while keeping its juiciness, while the salad comes out fresh with a little touch of ranch dressing. Taken by surprise! Popped in here after a visiting the hospital for a quick dinner. The food was very good and tasted fresh. There are great healthy options throughout the whole menu. The side salad with the sandwich was my favorite!!! The mandarin oranges are a perfect addition. We got to try a few cookies. The chocolate chip was my favorite!! Easy ordering experience and yummy food! Came here on a weeknight and was craving fish, so we ordered the seared ahi tuna bowl and a salmon bowl to share. Both were well portioned and very flavorful! Each bowl was about $16 after tax, but for the amount of food it was pretty worth the price. I also loved the focaccia- fresh and fluffy! You order on a self-serve tablet in the front (there are two), grab a table number, and sit anywhere in the restaurant. There's ample seating and a fair amount of lot parking (they share parking with Gen BBQ and California Fish Grill) so the whole experience was fairly easy! Would come back! read more

When we entered, there were 2 kiosks for customers to order from. After browsing their menu, my boyfriend decides on the Santa Maria BBQ Chicken ($12.95) with Chipotle Ranch dressing on the side, substituting the goat cheese for mozzarella cheese and I ordered The Café Salad ($12.75) with Balsamic dressing, substituting the goat cheese for mozzarella cheese, and no bread. Upon checking out with the kiosk, you enter one of the numbers for the orders by the kiosk, take the number with you and seat yourself at any table. A few of the tables were dirty, so we looked around until we found a clean one. The food was prepared in a decent amount of time. It tasted healthy. Nothing too exciting but it served its' purpose. At first they forgot the avocado from my salad and ended up bringing it on the side. Oh I'm also glad they put my dressing on the side even though I didn't ask for it to be because the container was too much dressing for the salad. Would consider coming back here for a healthy-ish meal. Not so much for enjoyment. The pricing is also reasonable for quality ingredients. read more

I've been here before, but I'm writing this review because I decided to give Urban Cafe another chance, and unfortunately it didn't change my mind. Overall, it's just nothing special. The food isn't bad by any means, but it's also not exciting or memorable, especially for the price. The portions are small for what you're paying, and that's really the biggest issue. Either the portion sizes need to increase or the prices need to come down, because right now it just doesn't feel worth it. This time I ordered the chimichurri steak and also tried the pastrami over the chimichurri steak. Both were fine, but nothing that made me want to come back or crave it again. The flavors didn't really pop, and nothing had that "wow" factor that makes you think about the meal later. The salad that comes with it was honestly a joke, especially considering the price point. I ordered through DoorDash because I didn't want to wait, and while the food arrived fine, it just reinforced that this place is more average than anything else. I will say the staff was very nice when I picked up my order, and it wasn't busy at the time, which I appreciated. Parking, however, was a bit frustrating. Even though it looks like there's front row parking in the photos, that was after I had already picked up my food and taken pictures. When I arrived, parking was a hassle and I had to park farther than expected just to grab my order. I really wish I could say this is a solid addition to West Covina, but I'd honestly rather drive a couple of minutes to Porto's and get an amazing sandwich that never fails and costs at least seven dollars less. Lunch visit. They have two tablet style kiosks to place your order, or you can still order in-person, which is my preference (I like speaking with someone). The staff was friendly, the dining area was clean, and there's plenty of indoor seating, as well as some outdoor seating. Parking is plentiful in the private lot. The menu isn't huge, but they have a good selection of sandwiches and salads, as well as a Tomato Bisque and a soup of the day. The focaccia bread is baked fresh, and all the ingredients on the sandwiches were of good quality. My wife and I tried the Chimichurri Steak sandwich ($13.55), which comes with a small side salad dressed with a balsamic vinaigrette and mandarin orange slice, however we opted to substitute for a cup of soup (+$4.35). She had a cup of the Tomato Bisque (served warm), and I had the Baja Enchilada Soup, which was served hot and tasted fantastic! Our order came out quickly and except for the Tomato Bisque being "just warm", everything was very good. They offer "Batch Craft Soda" products and Coke/Diet Coke from a dispenser, as well as Old Fashioned Lemonade and two types of Agua Frescas. Urbane cafe is sooooo good. I love everything about them. this is what panera is trying to be and they can't even come close. The salads are amazing and i recommend the cilantro chicken!! it also comes with a quarter slice of their focaccia, which is baked fresh everyday. When picking up the order the staff were nice and welcoming, very good vibes there. The order on the app said 4:40-5pm but it usually is ready 10 min before so I called in and for sure it was ready. It pains me to lower my review, but the last 2 visits have been disappointing (tonight tops it), food quality-wise and portion (of course). With raising costs, restaurants now, of course, either raise prices or have smaller portions - which I totally understand but the quality of the "sashimi grade ahi tuna" simply does not live up to "sashimi grade" especially if that is on your menu. Our favorite (of all time) item to order is the Seared Ahi Tuna Bowl, but tonight was just beyond disappointing that we now need to find another item on the menu to order from next time. Seared Ahi Tuna Bowl $13.95 Sashimi grade ahi tuna, mixed whole grain rice, marinated kale, edamame, cucumbers, red radish, grape tomatoes, pickled white radish, sesame seeds. Served with creamy ponzu and sushi sauce drizzle. Complimentary Urbane focaccia bread upon request. At least 3 tuna slices were torn in the middle (not a whole slice since they were torn), but a total of 5 slices were inedible, they were hard to chew, the tendon. At this point, our Japanese supermarket sashimi is better quality than Urbane Cafe... Food-wise, the taste is still great and the ingredients are fresh, except for the tuna. Customer service is still great. My online order is always ready by the selected pick-up time and there are always parking either right in front of the restaurant, pick-up only spots, or spots to the side. read more

Reminds be of an in-between Panera and Mendocino Farms. I love the club and the salads are great. Enchilada soup was good. Not too heavy but still hearty. You can order online or in person. Enjoyed dining in at Urbane Cafe on a Sunday afternoon. The place is spacious. Plenty of tables and chairs inside as well as outside. Once we came in the restaurant we were greeted by Oscar. Oscar provided excellent customer service. We inquired about food allergies and he was very informative and attentive. He also communicated with the kitchen to check regarding cross contamination. I love the chimichurri steak sandwich here, it hit every note. I first tried their catering (Pasadena) and ate the inside of it since it wasn't gluten free. It was so good that I wanted to go to an in person location. I found out they had gluten free bread and it was incredible! It reminded me of bolillo which I have not had in ages so soft and stretchy. Warning!! Their bread is addictive - it's so soft, chewy, and delicious. I was picking up an order here before going to Panera across the street to pick up an online order there too. This is what happens when not everyone in the household wants to eat from the same place. What really stood out for me at Urbane is the staff. They are so welcoming and happy, and seem like they really appreciate you visiting. At Panera, no one greets you and they just hand you your order. It's quite interesting with the night and day difference. At Urbane, I've tried the ahi tuna salad, salmon salad, barramundi fish sandwich, and the chimichurri steak sandwich. Everything was delicious. I did prefer the ahi tuna salad over the salmon salad though. The sandwiches come with a side salad (delicious), and at first look, I did think they were on the smaller side but they are actually quite filling. I thought I would be hungry after eating it. Although the size of the sandwich may be smaller than what I imagined, the quality of ingredients really makes up for it. These are much higher quality that their across-the-street neighbor.
