I am deeply conflicted about giving only 4 stars for Urban Waxx. I used Urban Waxx when my regular esthetician was out of town, and I needed to get "cleaned up" before a work trip. I found their booking system pleasant to use, and the staff themselves were completely professional and friendly. The surroundings are clean and well lit. The esthetician who worked on me was completely friendly and very effective. She was great at making the experience very painless. As someone who regularly gets my face and brows done, that's saying something! The only reason I have deducted a star (and trust me, I'm very conflicted about this) is because I had a pretty profound negative reaction to the products used. I don't know if it was the wax or the serum used for aftercare, but my face was a train wreck for several days after. I had explained to the esthetician that I can't use AHAs on my face, although light solutions of salicylic acid (a BHA) seem to be ok for short durations. I don't think the person working on me realized the Serious Serum contains both. Again, I'm not sure which was really the source of the trouble, the wax or the serum. Normally post-waxing the most serious problem I have ever had are ingrown hairs, and in one case someone burned me badly enough that I had scabs on my face. After my service at Urban Waxx my skin was painfully red, swollen and tender for days--which never happens normally. I don't think it's fair to rate Urban Waxx poorly because in all other regards they were awesome. If you have very sensitive skin, you might want to steer clear of the Serious Serum after waxing, or bring something with you that you know works for you. I was disappointed to have a negative reaction given the expense (Urban Waxx is definitely not the cheapest in town), but I don't think that's the fault of the business. read more

Simply put, Urban Waxx is the incarnation of everything I could ever hope for in a waxing studio. Always impeccably clean. Cute, modern, comfortable decor. Easy to get in (same-day appointments, love it!), always on time, very reasonable prices, professional staff (receptionists as well as estheticians!). They use waxes that are great for sensitive skin and have a nice smell. Reception even offers you free snacks and drinks upon check in! I usually see Kristin. I made a 5:00 appointment yesterday. I was told I had to give my credit card info incase I cancelled or missed my appointment. This is not a process I am used to have worked in the wax industry. I received a call at 4pm informing me I missed my appointment. I explained to the receptionist my appointment was for 5. She was very rude insisting it was at 4 and that this was my mistake. I would have not made a 4:00 appointment as I was not available at that time. Although the receptionist accommodate me with a 5:30 appointment I feel this was a shady attempt to charge for services not received. I did not appreciate that she assumed this was my mistake. This does not make for a pleasant experience when trying a new place. read more

I came here for the first time last week to get my eyebrows waxed with Mekaela. I arrived about ten minutes early for the session and was offered a range of water, juices, mimosas (!), and nice snacks before my session again! When Mekaela approached me to take me to my appointment (around 5 minutes after I had initially arrived), she was helpful and listened to my request to have my brows kept full -- just shaped and styled. Mekaela was very conversational and made the whole experience relaxing and comfortable! At the end, she helped apply some soothing cream to the waxed areas in order to minimize irritation. Most importantly, my brows look fantastic! I've gotten a lot of compliments and Mekaela stayed true to my wishes in keeping them full but tidy. Will definitely be returning! read more

I had a great waxing experience here. The service was quick and effective. Overall aesthetic inside it was really beautiful and calming and they provided little snacks and drinks for customers, which I thought was a nice touch. I also found some organic ingrown hair serum here. I've been trying to transition into products with less chemicals and I definitely found that at Urban Waxx. The result of my Brazilian is soft and smooth and my wax specialist was nice as well as made me comfortable... but the only reason I went here is because my usual place was booked and this is the only other place in town that offers sugaring. I booked for a few things but due to a death in the family had to change my apt to only a Brazilian and they changed it to regular wax not the sugar like I had asked for, which would have been okay if that was the only thing that was mistaken but after everything... I specifically called before booking my apt online to make sure that I would not be charged ahead of time and that there was no hold of ANY amount until it was time to pay after my apt. Only to be charged twice and now after three days am still waiting for the first charge to be returned to my account. The front is cute but the rooms are very hospital like and not the best equipped for the client in between the end of the wax and getting dressed again. read more

Brows were great, she was thorough and let me know exactly what she was doing before she took anything off which I appreciated since eyebrows are so delicate. Brazilians are obviously more uncomfortable and longer, but she did a great job. It is painful, but she talked to me and was super quick through the whole process. I can't recommend her enough! Hanna is amazing!! She was so sweet and made me feel so comfortable. I was embarrassed that I haven't gotten my brows done in 3 months and she was so nice about it! Normally when I go to brow places they make fun of my fluffy brows but she didn't! Their snack bar is amazing and their services are as well. I came in super early and they took me in right away! Wow. Just wow. This place is absolutely amazing and worth every penny. Urban wax seems so much more high end than its prices. Walking in after a full work day of rolling out of bed with no shower made me almost feel to dirty to sit on the couch. The bathrooms are super clean, smell great and have tampons. Everyone is extremely nice and the mimosas make the thought of getting anything waxed a little more bearable. I have had very bad waxing experiences and decided to try this place. I will be coming back. My eyebrows have been messed up so many times and while their prices for eyebrow waxing are on the heavier end, I have had enough terrible experiences to be willing to pay the extra penny. Mekaela is very thorough and really listens to what you're saying as far as what you want/don't want. Waxing is really rough on my skin. I have rare skin and no acne problems, my complexion is great, however, I can breakout a lot from lotions, wax, oils. Eyebrows I've learned to deal with brief irritation, I had no irritation afterwards. The redness went down almost immediately. She used hydrocortisone. And my eyebrows look amazing. Nikky did my Brazilian and was really thorough as well, considering my sh** looked like a train wreck that's been abandoned for 6 months with no hopes of survivors. It was longer than other Brazilians that I've had, however, they make up for it in pain section since there wasn't much other than the initial shock. Most places I have been too have high pain and short amounts of time or high pain, and it feels like the wax lasted forever this place is great on both ends. I can't speak for the products since I'm terrified to use anything on my skin, but the basic aftercare that they used was enough for me. I will definitely be coming back here. read more

I came in for my first ever visit yesterday and had the best experience ever! Not only was I able to call the day of and get in same day but they were super nice about the last minute call. When I came in everyone was smiling and happy. My waxed was McKenzie and she did a great job! I was a bit overdue since my little town doesn't have many options and I had to drive an hour to get to this place. McKenzie did a great job and for once I am not finding any missed stray hairs! The service is GREAT. The girl who waxed me eyebrows was such a sweet lady and she's killer with the wax!! I love the shape of my brows she's the first to ever get them symmetrical. Lady at the front desk was super nice too, however, the only reason I'm ranking 4 stars is bc their policy is so fucking dumb. It's not the receptionist's fault obviously but I was informed that if I showed up more than 3 minutes late I will be forced to reschedule. I showed up 4 minutes late bc when she called I was looking for parking and then I was forced to reschedule to 30 minutes later?? I didn't believe the reviews on here that said their management was stupid but I their management is literally stupid. This is a great upscale place to go for a procedure that is uncomfortable (or downright painful). I have seen two different estheticians here and they are both fantastic. It is a high-end experience - in the waiting room they offer several different free drinks (wines, teas, mimosas...), a self-serve snack bar with trail mix and chocolate, and magazines I actually wanted to read. My first time I arrived early, sipped on my mimosa, and flipped through Real Simple while I waited. (The bathroom is also really nice). My biggest gripe with the place is that they are usually so empty that they rush you in for your service right away, even if you arrived early. I would prefer time to relax, enjoy the drink magazines and snacks, and appreciate the atmosphere especially since the service itself will not be relaxing. Also, once you're getting a wax, you can't even drink the tea or mimosa, so I would like a few minutes if I choose a drink. The waxing experience was good. They have two different kinds of wax, hard and soft, depending on the type of waxing you are getting. I don't remember what the waxes are made of but I do know that at least one of them has bees wax, natural-sounding ingredients, and smells nice. I felt very comfortable throughout the entire experience. I purchased something the owner created called "Serious Serum" for post-treatment skin care and it works. I have recommended them to many of my friends, so I recommend them to you, too. read more

DON'T MISS AN APPOINTMENT I have never taken the time to write a negative review on a business in my life. I am a small business owner in Eugene, specifically an electrical contractor who provides emergency response on the weekends. I had three appointments at Urban Wax which all went very well. Nice environment and nice people, complimentary water or mimosa and even some snacks are available. The environment is professional and comfortable. In October I scheduled an appointment for a Saturday and because of work was not able to make it. They charged me for 50% of my scheduled services and I made no complaint. The policy is that you must cancel 12 hours before the appointment and in this instance I did not. The following weekend I scheduled an appointment online in the evening after their regular business hours. They provide an automated message and you can view their calendar online. There were no scheduled appointments that day at the time I booked my appointment. An hour later I had an emergency response call come in for the AM. There was no way to cancel my appointment online. I called and left a message, after hours, and in the AM before they opened. I called right when they opened and was informed by a particularly rude person that I could not reschedule for later that day unless they charged my card for 50% of my scheduled service ($40). I explained that I just wanted to come in later that day and had something come up. It was explained to me that this is the policy and there is no changing that, that they had my card on file and would charge it regardless. I said that they would lose a customer if that was their choice and there was no budging. I told her that I did not consent to the authorization of a charge on my card, to which the reply was that I had agreed to the terms and would be charged. THE IRONY I used to go to someone else for these services, but as a business owner who services many buildings downtown, a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Home Builder Association and a general fan of the growth of downtown business I switched over to support this business ever since they went in. On my previous visit to Urban Wax the Air Conditioning was not working and I took time away from my appointment to speak to the service tech about how to access the building to make his repairs. I personally called the Building manager (I happen to have worked on this building several times) and waited after my appointment to make sure that he got in and that there were no electrical problems. It was so hot in there the wax was melting on its own. There were no apologies made for the swampy conditions. I did not charge anything for my time in resolving the situation (I care about my customers). THE VERDICT I was willing to put all that aside and give this place another try. Today I scheduled an appointment and after driving down there and showing up I was informed by the manager that I had been BLACK BALLED from returning because of my disagreement with the receptionist about the legality of their policy. They did not bring someone extra on to service my appointment that day; it would cost them nothing to move my appointment to later in the day. It is a bad policy and because I complained about it they choose to not offer me any service again ever. I never received a phone call or any attempt to resolve the conflict in any manner before the owner decided to not offer services. I would never treat a customer like that. EVER. Customer Service is not defined by a free Mimosa and the test of ones resolve as a business owner is in conflict resolution and working with dissatisfied customers to make them happy with your business. In this department ownership gets an F. I hope this business has continued success and can make the adjustments they need, for me I am happy to return to the smaller business I used before. read more
