After searching online, reading reviews, and viewing pictures on pinterest it looked like Urban Texture was a safe bet and therefore justified the very expensive prices (downtown salon prices at a home based salon). I saw Britnney, I already had ombre hair but I was looking to bring the brown down a bit further and brighten up some of the bottom. Before doing this I asked if it was worthwhile to do the top or just throw some more foils in the bottom because I didn't want to waste money if you wouldnt be able to tell, she agreed it would look different so did both (it ended up looking almost identical as when I arrived but toned a bit better at the bottom...). As for the cut I specifically said I did not want bangs, and showed her pics of some cuts with shorter face framing pieces (bottom of ear length) and she said she knew exactly what I meant and asked her to just freshen up the rest of my layers. While she was cutting she kept cutting shorter and shorter on the one side and it began to look terrible. At this point there was a HUGE ledge near the top of my ear (it was about 3 inches thick so pieces that would normally be full length at the front were very short). I asked her what was going on and she said there was more hair on that side so she was having difficulty (I have a side part, which we discussed before, so obviously I have more hair on the one side). It seemed like she had no idea what she was doing, which confused me because all the pictures on facebook and pinterest by her looked like the same hair type and awesome cuts. At this point I asked her what to do and she tried to blend it more, she knew I was upset and the only other option to get rid of this huge shelf was to cut part of it into bangs. She ended up cutting some shorter (bang length) and leaving the rest. She knew we had no options because she messed up. Basically I had no option whatsoever because it looked terrible so I told her to just leave it and I ended up braiding it for the next 3 months. The owner was also working while this was going on, and they went in the back and talked a bit and then the owner rang me through. She knew I was very unhappy as she could see and hear this whole horror cut going on, yet proceeded to charge me the full amount (It came to almost $250). She charged me full price for the cut which was something like $70 or $80. I was so upset with this terrible cut that ruined nearly two years of growing my bangs out to match the rest of my long hair that I ended up crying in my car on the way home. I guess she figured there would be no way I would be going back so she might as well get all the money out of me that she could. Brittney was very nice, however the cut was the worst I've ever had and the color ended up looking almost exactly what I went in there with (which I specifically said I didn't want). At the very least for ruining my hair but overtly messing up the cut I should have been spared having to pay $70-80 for a cut that left me in tears. This is terrible customer service and outrageous pricing for a home based salon. To make it clear, these concerns were absolutely communicated at the time of the hair cut, I couldn't have made myself any more clear. From the comment below it sounds like I was expected to bring this up multiple times to have any resolution? I left it in their hands, knowing full well I had expressed my concern and extreme dissatisfaction and they decided to do nothing. I am writing this post 4 months later because I am looking for a new stylist and keep coming across their positive reviews and photos which were not an accurate representation of my experience and I don't want the same thing to happen to others. I left a regular tip because it is standard practice, not a reflection of my satisfaction. I do the same at restaurants. Maybe because I didn't have a fit and demand a discount they claim they weren't aware of the issue. Either way I absolutely made my stylist aware of my concern, and I could tell she felt bad for messing up and admitted she was having difficulty. To be clear, I have long, regular hair, nothing out of the ordinary. read more
