Not happy with the results. Went to see Amir for blonde highlights, told him I want to go back to bleach blonde. I had highlights/lowlights done last summer which darkened the overall look of my hair and I decided I liked being lighter. He did tell me at the start of the appointment that it would take two visits to get me as light as I want, but he could've done a lot more for me in one appointment. He put a "full head" of foils on my roots, but did not put any highlight in the body of my hair. He also over-toned it to a very boring and blah shade of beige. During the visit he asked if I could help put his foils together which is not really a huge deal, but if I'm paying close to 200$ for my hair I would like to feel pampered not doing work. He also got one of his students to wash my colour out, and she was quite awful at it as half of my foundation on my face was gone afterwards. Amir was so amazing. He is so friendly, kind and generous with his services. I was able to brighten my ombre, get a new set of highlights, create more depth on my roots and he did a protectant treatment on my hair too to protect it from breakage for such a reasonable price. I made an appointment a week ago, based on the reviews I saw, really excited. I showed up 10 mins early, waited until 5 mins after my appointment was supposed to be, got out and checked the door as the open sign was off. Nope, door was locked. Waited 3 more minutes, saw a lady drive up, unlock the door. At this point I've been waiting almost 20 minutes and honestly I felt so disrespected that I didn't think I could relax enough to enjoy the experience. Especially if it was gonna take another 10 minutes for her to get ready. So I left without my haircut. Wow I had an amazing experience with Raisa at Salon 101 ! After 8 years of colouring my hair dark , I was ready To lighten up my hair a little as it was getting a little boring I sat with her she consulted On possibilities and what's not possible and pricing ... She also did a strand test to make sure my hair was gonna be able to handle the Lightner considering the drugstore hair colour that was in there... After we did the lightning process She chose a tone that would cool the warmth in my hair. She was very pleasant to talk to and you can tell she had passion for her craft by the patience she had correcting my hair Color ! I have been going to Amir since he opened, and he has consistently given me great haircuts (when I get them). The old Salon 101 was very subpar with a real feeling of old. If you are deterred from going because of this, trust that the decor and feel has completely changed. He puts on your fav show or music videos, and we talk politics, and blonde hair chicks. The truth of the matter is I don't get that many haircuts as I am lazy and let my hair grow long and strong. When I do call Amir he always gets me in, and his pricing is wicked. read more

Although walkins are welcome it does seem prebooking is the best way to get in , sometimes running late but definetly worth the wait. I've never walked out of a salon this satisfied with both result and price! Amir was absolutely fantastic! I was nervous as I had been waiting to get this done for almost a year and I really wanted it to turn out perfect (I'm getting married in three weeks). He did such a great job with my balayage and color, he was so patient dealing with my extensions​ and making sure nothing got ruined in the process, even though he had recommended I did my color before getting the extensions in. He made sure he didn't overpromise and underdeliver, which I appreciated very much, and boy did he overdeliver! I really couldn't have hoped for a better result. The highlights, colors, ​and balayage look so natural and stunning at the same time. He blended everything with my natural color and the color of the extensions​ and was so incredibly detailed about every inch of hair, putting some brighter highlights in key spots and yet making sure it still looked like it was the result of natural sunlight. It took me almost an hour to reach the salon and it was SO worth it, I am never going to a different hairdresser again. The cherry​ on top: he quoted me a higher price, realized he was able to do it under that price (I honestly would have had no idea of knowing what he ended up using or not using, as the result was exactly what I asked for), so he took 70$ off the original quote, despite me being there for longer than expected. So Amir wasn't just incredibly good, he was also very honest. *A shoutout also goes to the Iranian girl (Livia? Apologies, I can't remember the name) who finished up the job doing my waves: she was quick in understanding exactly what I wanted (not too curly, very open waves, straighter at top, no oily product to avoid ruining extensions etc etc) and the waves looked stunning for 3 days straight! Oh shoot. I've just found this in my drafts, and saw I never posted this! This was meant to be posted back in January! This place is still, and always will be the most fabulous salon ever. I've never walked out of a salon feeling so satisfied with a cut in my life. So attentive, great atmosphere, and friendly service! I always have trouble with my hair falling flat, but Amir cuts it in a way that it always looks plump, and full of volume. Love this place! Highly recommend! Had a fantastic experience at salon 101. I recently moved to Calgary and am always nervous to try a new hairdresser for my blonde highlights. Amir was sensational. He was one step ahead of me on everything I wanted in color and cut. When he was cutting another gentleman's hair while mine was in foil, he was still very attentive to me and kept checking how my color was progressing. (I've been to a few salons where I sit there and wait and try not to freak out that my hair is possibly turning bright/bleach blonde because the hairdresser is busy with another customer!) I came here after I moved and was far from my old hairdresser based on the other reviews. The salon is uni-sex and does standard hair salon practises (cut, colour, style, etc). My appointment (just a haircut) was with Amir who I believe owns the place. He's a super friendly person who's not overly talkative, but definitely knows what he's doing. He listened to what I wanted, suggested a few things, and we took it from there. I'm very happy with the results; it's exactly what I wanted and the second my boyfriend saw me he told me how good I looked which isn't his usual response when I get a haircut. The cut itself was $50 + tax, though it may vary depending on who you see (I'm not sure). I will definitely be back. I think they take walk-ins, but I recommend an appointment as the time slots seem to be generally full. read more

I went to Salon 101 on the recommendation of a few friends. I have curly/wavy hair and was looking for direction on how to style and a good cut. I don't like to fuss with my hair. I explained this to the hairdresser, My appointment was 20 minutes, wash, cut, blow dry. I walked out looking exactly the same as when I went in. I asked numerous people thru out my day how they liked my haircut and everyone looked at me stunned to say they see no difference. It had been 6 months since my last cut and I was hoping for it to look better. I complained about a section of my hair that always fell in my face, Still, have that section of my hair falling in my face. I, unfortunately, will not be back. I am a single mother and $75 was a lot of money to me. I will now have to save up again to try somewhere else. read more

The stylist and I negotiated the cut and color I wanted based on my preferences and it ended up being shorter than I wanted (meh: I can deal with that) and he changed my part so that my natural part makes my hair fall uneven now (this is more annoying). Worst hair appointment I've ever had. I walked in and the stylist who was going to highlight my hair looked me up and down. I should have walked out then and there. She proceeded for the rest of the appointment to tell me how she can't work with my hair because it was too greasy and how it was in terrible condition, which it is not. I have fine hair and she had no idea how to deal with fine hair. She wasn't listening well when I was trying to let her know what I wanted done with my hair and gave indication that she was annoyed with me that I didn't know exactly what I was talking about and then talked back to me when I was trying to clarify what I wanted. I ended up just letting her do whatever she wanted because I was already stuck with dye in my hair. She kept stabbing my face with her nails while working without apologizing. After washing all the product out, I just wanted to leave with my hair wet, especially since she insisted she had to get me out the door for her next client. But she also insisted on drying my hair. She spent the next 15min ripping out chunks of my hair with her comb and whipping my hair around what felt like violently and on top of all this, she had me facing the customers waiting to have their hair done. I left so so angry and got home with less hair on my head than I went in with and an ugly orange tone that came from the toner. Horrible! I am not wanting to let a stylist touch my head again after her! read more

I decided to try this salon as I needed to get a cut and colour and my timeline was now. The stylist was good. Offered some suggestions. The Colour was good as well. I guess my main complaint was the price! This is not an inexpensive salon. I have never paid that much for my hair cuts and is the one reason I will not return. The rating on this place as inexpensive is inaccurate. I paid at least 60% more than any place else. Too bad. read more
