Great Clips - Hair Salons Near Me - Calgary, Alberta

It depends on your luck, if u got good hair stylist you will get good hair cut, I got the lady with greenish blue hair and I left the salon almost bald. Told her shoulder length and i got jawline length, left with tears in my eyes... read more

Went to the salon on 8th Street, it was the worst haircut ever. I almost called a lawyer. If you get Jaspreet - RUN. I told her how I wanted my hair - an inch trim all over and layered - and was totally ignored. Two inch pieces began coming off. When I started complaining she said I was changing my mind and gave her bad instructions. It went further south from there and her replies came in a child-like, high pitched whiny voice. The woman before me had a bad experience as well, that should have been my cue to leave. Once I got home I took selfies and sent to head office. A few days later the store manager called me in disbelief that I was unhappy with the service. She asked me to come in for a redo and I said there was one problem - there wasn't enough hair left to do anything with. I never went back. There used to be good staff there but they've long departed for greener pastures. read more

Today I got my hair cut at Great Clips and I gave the hairdresser specific instructions on how to cut my hair. She did completely opposite of what I asked for. I asked her to take 1/2 an inch off the back of my hair and she ended up taking 4 inches, I asked her just to clean up my layers, in the end you totally ruined my hair, I will never go back there again. read more

I really liked my haircuts here, but the stylist who I have had the last 2 visits has made it clear that she likes having random clients which I get. I went on a different day as I felt maybe she doesnt like doing my hair as she recommended chatters to me last visit. Today she bumped up a client in front of me and then after my 10 minute trim and thin she asked me to come in after 11 going forward when a second staff member was in. I told her I really feel she doesn't like doing my hair and I'm sorry I even came in on a different day than usual and don't worry I won't come back. I'm not sure what I've done to have this lady not like me but I won't be back. She tried to make it seem like she hated seeing me wait but I had no problem and never complained. I can take a hint. read more

I have been here three times so far, twice with the same stylist and honestly I love it. I'm used to at home cuts and this isn't much different since I only get blunt cuts. I've been struggling with thinning ends and split ends but even with a couple regular visits my hair feels thicker and healthier. The stylists make just the right amount of small talk and definitely know what they're doing. It's absolutely perfect for what I want plus it's pretty cheap (don't forget to tip!). 100% recommend if you need to freshen your look! read more

I asked to look like OliSunvia and showed multiple pictures. I look like that one time Emma Roberts got bangs. My stylist asked me "are you mad?" As if I was the one who should be comforting her. I said "at the haurcut, not at you." But honestly im pretty mad at her too. read more

Quick service and great price. No reservations are required so you can just walk in. Cheapest hair cut I've ever had!

Today on July 27, I booked online appointment to get my haircut. I walked in the front door and there was my favourite hairstylist. kritika but unfortunately for me, she let me know that her last day working in the southwest she's moving to the south east store. It's like somebody let the air out of my balloon getting the new. I just want to say what an incredible employee you have incredible hairstylist with awesome personality. She's gonna be so missed, especially by me, but don't be surprised. I find out which store she is working i just might surprise her and stop in for a haircut, thank you Kritika wish you and your family all the best in the future , George T lifetime customer . read more

How did Great Clips make #4 on the Top 10 list of cheapest haircuts with only 2.5 stars?

I wish I could give this place even less than one star. My partner went to get her undercut trimmed, and came home bawling her eyes out because they butchered her hair so bad. The stylist also made transphobic remarks that her haircut was for men. Their equipment isn't well maintained, and their service is awful. read more

I won't go back. Service is horrible. I wonder if they have any training at all how to cut hair.

I'm upgrading. Not from this discount hair cutting place, but for my review of it. Two years later and Barb is still doing a fab job. So good, in fact, that I haven't had my hair cut since February and I keep getting people asking me if I've just changed my haircut because it looks so good! What you can expect: Fast haircuts, and to pay extra for services you might otherwise expect at a hair salon (like getting your hair washed). Understand too that just like anywhere, if you get someone you've never had before, they may very well give you a cut you don't like. It's happened to me before. But that's another bonus to Great Clips, they'll still let you request the stylist you want. The other handy thing now about Great Clips is that, if you aren't waiting specifically for Barb (I'm sure they have other great stylists too), you can use their app to get a spot in line without having to sit there for 20 minutes wondering when you'll be next. Don't you love the internet? Keep me lookin' fab, and I'll keep coming back. read more

Terrible service, rude stylists (if you can call them that), shoddy haircuts. I could have done a better job myself. And likely will next time. Went for a cut, got scowled at when I walked in. Got seated in a barber chair covered in what I hope was styling product, and the stylist proceeded to ignore my requests, and finished in under 8 minutes. I went to pay, no tip, and went and found another barber to fix the mess that great clips made of my hair. Never again. read more

It was terrible. The staff was rude, lazy and unprofessional. The haircut was exactly opposite to what I asked for. I showed a picture, asked if she was able to do it and she said yes. It was a super straight forward cut, nothing complicated. And what she did was awful. When I asked if she could make corrections based on my initial request, "I can't do that. That's not what you asked for". WORST NEVER GO HERE HORRIBLE AVOID AT ALL COSTS read more

The best salon/barber in downtown Calgary. Super knowledgeable and friendly staff and very fair prices. Highly recommend.

I had been coming to this Great Clips location since about 2015. The service was usually ok, I never really had any complaints. On my recent visit near the end of February, I got my usual cut done by a stylist I'd never had before, a lady who was mideast or eastern european descent(?) and the experience was not good. I had been needing to use the washroom during my time in the waiting area and during the cut, but out of politeness I just tried to hold it until the very end. As I was heading to pay, I asked the lady if I could use the washroom and she flatly told me it was for staff only. This was outrageous, as I have used the bathroom here literally every time I have visited, including during the pandemic. I was so pissed off at this that I just paid and left, and at this point I will never give my business to any franchise-owned Great Clips ever again. I have found a new barber close to where I live in Bridgeland and while the price is a bit higher, they don't refuse a customer who needs to use the bathroom. Totally worth the switch. read more

All of the real reviews for this business are hidden (see other reviews at bottom). The negative reviews for this business are 4 x the positive, and yet only the positive ones are shown and are years old. It has become very apparent that Yelp is indeed manipulating data - I have personally contacted them only to be told it's "random" and "secret". It's not. If a person who didn't know better doesn't look behind the facade and read the REAL UP TO DATE reviews, they're going to have a bad time. I have spoken to other owners who are featured here with the opposite results - great reviews hidden and horrid ones out front. Based on what i'm reading, this borders on fraud. read more

I went for a haircut at the Great Clips in the Brick Plaza Calgary. The experience was awful. The operator ripped my hair with a brush and then proceeded to cut my hair with a man's razor. It was not fun. I did not leave a tip. read more

Moved to Calgary about 3 years ago and I started getting my haircut here because it was in my neighborhood and it is well priced. I have Asian hair and I have to get it cut about every 3 weeks to keep it tight. Jen is the best! After trying a couple different places and stylists she is definitely my favorite - I still come back to this place every time even though I no longer live in the neighborhood. If she isn't available the day you are there then Jay is a really good substitute - both are really good with Asian hair. read more

If I could give it less I would. I don't know what the hair dresser was doing but I left with my neck feeling like it had just received a brutal sun burn. Upon arriving back home I checked the mirror to see the back of my neck covered in small cuts, scratches, and burns. I understand that this is a value hair salon but I have never went in there expecting more than that; especially didn't expect to gains few battle scars in there either. The stylist seemed to be in a bad mood and definitely took it out on me. Look out for the red haired one with the lip ring because if she used clippers on you, be prepared to stop off at the drug store to get Polysporin to help heal you from your hair cut because you may or may not be leaving with wounds. Who would have ever expected that from a haircut? Absolutely ridiculous. read more

Great Clips - Left my haircut with cuts, scratches and burns. - Hair Salons Near Me - Calgary, Alberta

this place is the worst. i went in for a trim at 8:30 pm today, ( they are open till 9) both hair dressers were doing nothing, one was sitting in a chair looking bored and the other was standing at the cash register with a scowl on her face and asked for a trim. She said no because they were closing. really poor service. read more

Worst haircut of my life. So I went in yesterday to get a much-needed trim. (If I hadn't been extremely pressed for time, I never would've considered a cheap salon but the reviews sounded good.) A small East Indian woman took me back and proceeded to ask me what I wanted. I specifically told her I did NOT want any noticeable length taken off. Just the most minimal of my split ends. She showed me how much she "believed" I needed taken off and I said NO. One inch was too much. So she went away butchering my hair like it was a f****ing cow for the slaughter. She took off a good 2-3" everywhere. The only good thing was that my bangs didn't take the hardest hit. If you're looking for an obviously cheap haircut from someone who, very likely, flunked out of hair school...this is your place. A gift certificate to this place would be an excellent cruel joke to someone you don't like. :) read more

I have been coming here for 3 years, most of the people who used to work here are gone, and the new people don't really seem to know how to take directions. I had the worst experience I've ever had - I went in looking for a trim, and came out looking like a balding man. I asked her exactly what I wanted - trim on the sides and leave it longer in the front, I now have about 3/4 inch hair on my for head, and I've never seen anyone be so happy with thinning shears before. They have increased their prices multiple times over the last few years, but it seems the quality of personnel is dropping. If you do have to go here, make sure who ever cuts your hair knows exactly what you want, otherwise who knows what you will get. I'm definitely not going back. Continuously hiring poorer quality hair dressers has made this place go from good to bad. read more

I went there 2 days ago. I'm relatively new to Calgary (18 months) but have managed to try 4 different hairdressers. Just to let you know I have long straight hair and asked for a trim in each place. First time I went to an expensive salon and paid $90 for a trim, then went home to fix my hair by myself in front of the bathroom mirror. This happened 3 times. Finally, I've decided if my hair get messed up then I prefer to pay less for it, so I went to great clips. I had a male Asian guy to trim my hair (sorry can't remember his name). He did an excellent job for $20. He was not chatty, which I prefer. Thank you and will be back. read more

I know it's a low end salon but I went in for a trim and specifically asked for a certain stylist..she rudely told me she was going on lunch so she wouldn't...that's fine..until another girl was doing my hair and the woman I had specifically asked for was not on lunch and cutting other peoples hair..kind of rude.... read more

Always great cuts no matter who I get. An amazing one today as well- shout out to Tatiana!

Wow! I am so happy I tried Great Clips. Christa was super -- professional, fast and did an excellent job. No fancy haircut that I can't do tomorrow. No idle chit chat that I cannot stand. And no hefty price tag. My hair looks as good or better than after a trip to a high priced salon. Thanks Christa. I will be back. read more

They have no Idea what they're doing. I wanted a fade, all she literally did was use a razor and cut the top. My whole haircut took 10 mins. JUST QUIT YOUR JOB, Y'ALL ARE NOT GOOD AT IT. They told me They can't bald fade me because they don't have license for that. I should go to a barber literally after she cut my hair. TELL YOUR CUSTOMERS THAT BEFORE THE HAIRCUT. USE YOUR LOGIC FFS. read more

Don't go here if you're a girl with longer, thicker hair. If you have thick hair, they won't wash it because of the "sheer amount of hair" you have and it takes too long. The hairdresser I had was a bitch. Don't go here, just shell out the money for a good haircut. FUCK YOU GREAT CLIPS. read more

What a waste of time this was. I'm giving it one star because I didn't have the option of giving it 0 stars. I was in town for a week, and wanted to give my 18month boy a hair cut. I look online for kids haircuts places and this location came up. Close by and affordable. Sounded great. I came in with my boy, sat him down and as any 18month old baby, he wasn't still. The lady that was going to work on him just wasn't easy to deal with. "Keep him still!, I don't want to this, and I'm not in the business of babysitting" was what came out of her mouth. I asked her: but you advertise online that you do kids haircuts? Her answer, yeah, we just put that up on the website but I can't do it. The fact that she wasn't comfortable dealing with a baby wasn't the problem. It was her rudeness and attitude that got me writing this. She didn't want out business, and made it clear. I looked online for a kids haircuts place specifically. If you advertise that you do kids haircuts I expect you know how to deal with kids. If you don't know how to do it, then don't put it on your website. read more

If I can give a 0 star, I will do it. I have always had my haircut here. Some do a fantastic job, some not so much but tolerable. But today it's worst. First time ever in my life that I cried because of a bad hair cut. That's how upset I am. But of course, my usual kind heart won't allow me to shame someone in front of other people so I said nothing but inside I was screaming and you can probably see it in my face that I'm not happy. I am so upset because it's that awful that I don't even want to see myself in the mirror and have to cover it with a hat or my hoodie. The branch is Seton Calgary. I'm so angry because I don't think it can be repaired because it way too short, and has to let it grow a bit so it can be fix. read more

I'm so picky when it comes to my hair and who cuts it, even though I don't go often (as I'd like) and I have a hard time with salon prices I just don't understand why it has to cost so much! I've been in Alberta for almost 7 years. Havent had a stylist that I've been loyal too until the past year! A good long time friend of mine introduced me to my now stylist! She's awesome and amazing. And yes I come from 45 min out of the city to see her! the Price is right the service is awesome and she's amazing at what she does! I highly HIGHLY suggest going to Great Clips downtown and ask for Barb! read more
