Pure Form rescued me from a hair emergency and I am so grateful! My friend and I were bridesmaids in a wedding on July 1. She booked us an appointment with her regular stylist (not from Pure Form) for up-dos more than 2 months in advance because we knew it would be hard to get someone on a long weekend Sunday. The plan was to go to the stylist's house because her salon wasn't going to be open on July 1, and we could save a bit of money. It all sounded perfect, until the stylist cancelled on us the day before our appointment!!! After phoning a few mall salons and finding out they didn't open until 11 or 12 am, my friend tried Pure Form, a salon that she used to go to but hadn't been in over a year. The receptionist remembered her and was very sympathetic to our situation. She asked around the salon and luckily a stylist volunteered to come in on her day off. We arrived at the salon and met Lindsay at 8 am on Sunday morning because we needed to be out of there by 10 am for wedding stuff. She was in a great mood and very friendly, especially considering the time :) Lindsay listened to what we wanted and encouraged us to speak up if the style was going somewhere we did not want it to go. She did an amazing job and we both left feeling fantastic. The styles stayed put for over 16 hours, through photos in the heat and lots of dancing. I picked Pure Form because the stylist I wanted works here and they have pretty good reviews. I haven't had any coloring done, so far I've only had haircuts and trims, however my experiences have always been great and I have no complaints. They always call to confirm appointments a few days before your scheduled appointment which I really enjoy because when my schedule fluctuates it gives me an opportunity to reschedule. So far all the staff I've dealt with have been friendly and personable and I haven't had any unpleasant experiences, overall I would definitely recommend stopping by and giving this place a try! read more

Wow! I came here because of a Groupon purchase -- I don't live in the city but I'll know to call ahead the next time I come to Calgary -- like Angela W., I have found a stylist I enjoy and who knows how to cut hair. Mellisa M. knows how to take a hair history, knows how to explain how to style hair once you've gone home, and knows how to make a person's hairstyle compliment their face. Plus, she's fun and interesting. Pure Form is easy to find, with paid parking at the door. It's design is simple and open and practical but also really beautiful. They use Bumble and Bumble products. Melissa explained why she chose the product she did to use on my hair and also why Finesse shampoo is not the best product on the market (I know, "duh", but I'm a cheapskate) -- but she didn't push me to purchase product! Little does she know (or maybe she does), the next time I'm here, I'll buy some product just b/c she didn't push this time. :) I recommend Pure Form to any and to all. Decided it was time to change salons/ stylists as my previous stylist moved to a far NW location. Also, I wanted a salon within walking distance from my condo in Mission AND that didn't use Aveda products (my hair doesn't like Aveda products). Based on reviews, I decided upon Pure Form (that uses both Davines and Bumble & Bumble products). Pure Form didn't disappoint me! Pure Form is a nice open space with a comfortable seating area, ample magazines and varied selection of hair products and Jane Iredale make-up. The reception staff were nice and offered me a beverage upon arrival. There are 4 levels of stylists with varying prices so it's up to you what level of experience/ price point you want. Since my hair care/ style is pretty straightforward and I desperately needed a haircut, I went with a premier level stylist (check out their website for pricing). Jenna was very friendly, professional and took her time with my haircut & style. There was no rushing or cutting corners. I love my haircut and the price I paid was very, very reasonable in comparison to many other downtown salons. I will most definitely return to Pure Form and recommend it to friends. read more

I love how much time he spent with me talking about what I wanted and concerns I had. He really listens....which is such a beautiful thing in a stylist. After 4 years at another salon with another stylist who ended up moving out of the city, I had find somewhere new to go or I'd turn into Rapunzel. I was recommended to give Pure Form, and specifically Andy, a try by my friend Angela W. After much procrastination I made an appointment. I was please to be able to get an excellent time slot for just a few days later. Pure Form is downtown and easily accessible by transit or driving. There is a paid parking lot right next door although I imagine it is trickier to find parking during the day Mon-Friday. I was greeted right away as I entered and they offered to take my coat, get me a drink (the usual salon stuff). What I noticed right away was the vibe-while everyone had that "salon" look, everyone seemed very down to earth-not pretentious at all. Nice. Andy was great and just like Angela said in her review, he really listens. He had great suggestions for my hair and shared his philosophies on what good hair should be-thankfully they were in line with my thought on what "good hair" is. He was easy to talk to, funny and conversation flowed easily. This made my appointment seem much faster than it was. It's not cheap at Pure Form but its in line with other downtown salons. I really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and how friendly everyone was. Oh and my hair is great too. I'll be back. As a mini note the only thing I didn't like was the no tip option on the debit machine. Not a big deal but it always amazes me when salons and spas don't have this because it forces the customer to tell the receptionist how much you want to tip rather than privately entering it yourself. What a great place!!! All of the staff are friendly and caring, waited on me hand and foot. My hair always looks 100% better than when I walked in (even from the less experienced stylists) They focus on the scalp massage when washing your hair (YES! who doesn't love that?) Their products are great- and mainly natural. PLUS they offer, eyebrow shaping (By Libertee- who has been dubbed the eyebrow goddess...SO TRUE) makeup services, and photography. I used to LOVE Pure Form Salon. My hair stylist was awesome, always got my cut and style bang on. I called to make my usual appointment, and the girl who entered it said it was perfectly fine and that they would see me on Friday. 20 minutes later I get a call from the salon, it's the same girl saying that she didn't realize my stylist wasn't available for the Friday, so we rescheduled it for the Saturday. 20 minutes later again she calls me back and says she double booked my stylist for that time, so can we move it to a later time, I say fine. They call me on Saturday morning and tell me there was a mistake with the booking and no stylists are available. After that, I didn't go back for 6 months. I just went back for the first time, and I was a little disappointed. My hair needed a lot of work done, new color and cut, style, deep condition. Which all went fine. The only problem was that my hair looked like I took the scissors to it in the dark with my eyes closed. Unfortunately that knocked it back down on my list. read more

I read great reviews about this place so I looked up their website and found a hairstylist, Helen, who seemed to do a great job with bayalage according to her Instagram photos. I booked with her (this was last fall/winter) and made it clear as I made the appointment over the phone I was looking for cut colour and blow dry. After arriving Helen told me the wait will be long and she wouldn't have time to do my hair as she was with another client. I was heading to an interview that afternoon so I didn't mind even though it was a waste of time and really unprofessional for a high scale salon to dismiss a client when I had made an appointment. Sure, whatever, I was polite and told her I would re-book since her photos looked really good. I get in with her once I rebooked and for some reason she was unable to add more blonde to my already blonde bayalage? She told me she would have to re-dye it all to a light brown and build to over a couple of sessions. Even though I was kind of confused as to why she needed to darken my hair when it was already blonde at the bottom like I wanted, I took her word for it. Long story short my hair was orange. I texted her and asked her to fix it and she told me to come in and re-toned it. She really messed up my hair and it got really dry because of all the toning she had to do to fix her mistake. I paid almost a grand one month for something that looked like I dyed it myself out of a box. On top of it she had the audacity to tell me "I don't think there is a reason for you to come back". She was also saying things like I don't like working on thick curly hair. Trust me, I wasn't rude and I was very polite and friendly to her, purchased a deep hair treatment she recommended and also paid extra for a hair treatment she did for me while I was there, and tipped! Maybe I shouldn't have been so nice and she would have done her job right and not have had the nerve to tell me not to come back to her, leaving my hair looking absolutely nothing like I wanted and wishing it was what it looked like before. Go to Hotel Arts or book with someone other than her. Needless to say I will never be coming back to this salon again. read more

I followed my regular stylist when she moved to Pure Form salon. I would let Heather S. cut my hair with an X-Acto knife under the Center Street bridge if it came to that, but fortunately she decided to move here, to a salon properly equipped with tools and running water, rather than to the dark underbelly of a major transportation route. Decor here is "urban minimal" and it's a big, busy space. All of the staff I interacted with were pleasant and helpful. The main product line is Bumble & Bumble, which is great for getting results, and there are lots of three-hour parking spaces nearby for anyone requiring a major hair overhaul. I've received lots of compliments on the work that Heather S. did during my last visit to Pure Form, so I consider myself a converted client! read more

Heather Stacy has moved from Redbloom Salon to just a few blocks east on 11 Ave. -- Pure Form Salon. Heather is the best stylist in Calgary, period. Great for guys, and she styles my wife's hair, as well. Heather is the reason we went to Redbloom and she's the reason we're at Pure Form. We found her on yelp and I'd like to return the favour. Kelly at Pure Form is AMAZING. She has been my hair stylist for over a decade and I follow her everywhere she goes because she is simply the best. I have long, thick hair that I used to never wear down because it was so unruly, and Kelly was patient and honest with me on what we'd need to do to get it to a beautiful and manageable state, which she did. I now live in Los Angeles and despite being surrounded by celebrity stylist and an abundance of beautiful people and salons, I still go see Kelly in Calgary everytime I'm back for a visit. I tried other stylists in LA but none were able to do as good of a job as Kelly. I am always being complimented on my hair, and I owe it all to Kelly! read more

In past my experiences here have been good. Jenny has been my stylist several times in past and I do recommend her for blondes. After a bit of a hiatus I decided to book back for a cut and foils at the salon. Jenny was on holidays, and Jessica, who had done my hair once in past was also no longer at the salon. I decided to book (knowingly) with a less experienced stylist, but as I wasn't undergoing a massive change I wasn't worried about this. Megan was very nice and overall seemed to be attentive with good technique. I was quite blonde (platinum) and requested a few natural low lights (but emphasized not brassy) to break up how blonde my hair was. When I left I ended up with quite a dark head of hair, overall closer to my natural color than my original platinum with lowlights like I had asked. The blonde pieces were also quite brassy, definitely not toned properly. I decided to book back for a correction, so that I could get my blonde look back again. When I came back in the owner came over to ensure Megan was using the proper colors and toner (and did confirm that no, the ones previously used on me were not right) and she continued to check in - but only up until the point of the toner. I think this is where we the stylist again went wrong. Well, I ended up with a crown full of orange highlights and let her know that I was happier with the brown (more natural) highlights that I came in with before the correction. Needless to say, I am sure the owner knew that I left unhappy, and after even adding some additional blonde highlights to cover up the hideous orange, she did not even have the courtesy to come over and follow up. When I left, the only comment I got was something along the lines of 'you get what you pay for', from the front desk. I understood I was taking a risk, but for $160 plus tip, you should still leave feeling happy with the service in general. Was definitely turned off to the way the owner handled the situation. After winning a free (that's right, FREE!) hair cut + colour while at Punk Rock Bingo Night at Ship & Anchor, I immediately booked an appointment. Located right downtown, around 5th St and 11th Ave, the salon is on the ground-level floor of an old charming brick building. Upon entering the salon, I was greeted by a friendly receptionist who offered me a tea. I noticed how the space offered heaps of light from the big windows, and everything was clean and very well-organized. I was in great hands with Crystelle, who fulfilled my request for lightening up some highlights and chopping off an inch or so of my hair. The result was better than I had even imagined, I was so pleased! Definitely would return here again. The free gift card giveaway is a great way to promote services, and really worked in my experience since I have a new fave salon! read more

I was very clear of what I was looking for. I should have had the stylist tell me exactly what volume of lighter she was using. Long-short.......$370 later my hair has highlights at the base a lighter blonde than anywhere else on my head (including some breakage). One of the things I reiterated was how I wanted to keep the integrity of my hair and this was virgin hair anyway. All I did wrong was not ask her like a babysitter exactly what she was putting on my hair. Very expensive and I am now searching for some color correction. Go back? The girl was nice.....but are you kidding? That was enough to make me want to cut it off. But I have enough going on that my hair is down there on priorities in my life. I just thought from yelp that they could be trusted. Very sad......for me and my hair. Oh and my pocketbook. What a drag. I think they have high rent and you are paying for that as opposed to highly educated stylists. read more

Worst cut and color I have ever received. I went to this salon for the first time and saw Jenna, she messed up my color so bad, then followed by the worst haircut I have ever had. I asked for a blunt cut and she texterized the ends and it is not cut straight, as well as took about 2 inches off as opposed to the "trim" I was supposed to get. They have a "make it right policy", but with the haircut I got I can only hope it grows out fast. read more

Misleading and seem to be uneducated on both their products and services. The two times I have been there, once to have my hair done and the second to have it redone, there was only one other person in the salon - which should have been a red flag. The employees aren't even sure of company policies. I would not recommend this salon to anyone. They may sell Bumble and Bumble products, but that is only to lure in new and naive clientele. There are better salons in the city that don't try and up sell their customers constantly. read more

I've had my hair coloured by Caitlin at Pure Form several times over the last few months and I am giving one star only because I can't give zero or negative stars (I'm new to Calgary and the worst thing about moving is finding a new stylist - I absolutely LOVED my stylist in Vancouver). The reason I went here in the first place was that they had Davines products and I LOVE the entire Davines range. Anyway, I am relatively young (early 30s) and unfortunately almost completely grey (damn genetics) so I get my roots done every two weeks. After my first appointment I told her the coverage was not good (i.e. my greys had not been adequately covered) and she said she would leave it sit a bit longer this time. I also told her it needed to be rinsed and shampooed more thoroughly as there was a lot of residue left in my hair (so I had to wash it again myself when I got home). I went through this charade many more times - it should not be the job of the client to make sure the stylist is leaving colour on for long enough and rinsing it properly when the time comes - in other words, it shouldn't be the client's responsibility to make sure their stylist is performing the most basic of services properly. In addition, everything else was also rushed - the blow drying/styling was always half-assed (my hair was never once blow dried to being 100% dry) and the cuts were never sufficient (for example. I would say I just wanted a trim - cut off the split ends but nothing more and then I would go home and look at my hair and see that no, she hadn't even trimmed the freaking split ends properly). I finally reached my breaking point after my last appointment on Friday - it was so rushed (I was getting highlights as well) that the base colour was only left on for about 25 minutes - anyone who gets their hair coloured regularly knows this isn't long enough - PARTICULARLY IF YOU HAVE REPEATEDLY TOLD THE STYLIST THAT SHE HAS NOT BEEN LEAVING THE COLOUR ON FOR LONG ENOUGH. Needless to say, when I got home and checked in the mirror, I saw a whole lot of greys and I just about hit the roof (after spending $212 + a $40 tip). I was further enraged when I leaned back against a cream coloured sofa and THE FREAKING COLOUR TRANSFERRED ONTO THE FABRIC because she hadn't rinsed or washed it properly. I've never experienced such on-going poor service by a stylist - obviously I should have trusted my gut instincts and not gone back after that first not so great experience. I always tipped very well (at least 20% per visit) and I am genuinely disappointed with the service I received. There may be some good stylists at Pure Form but I vehemently advise against going to Caitlin. She was without a doubt the absolute worst stylist I have ever been to in my entire life. Everything she did was completely half-assed and rushed and I gave her several chances to step up to an acceptable level of service. In the end it was just money down the drain, so save yourself the trouble and go elsewhere. The services did not even come close to what one should expect in a high end salon. I called the salon and asked to speak with a manager and someone called me back but I was tied up and have since decided it is easier to just go elsewhere to get it fixed, since I have zero faith in the competencies on offer at Pure Form and have absolutely no desire to ever go back there. One other thing - during one of my earlier visits to this salon Caitlin advised me that I would get a 25% discount if I wrote a positive Yelp review, so be very wary of any glowing reviews (particularly if they are for Caitlin and the reviewer has only done one review). read more

After moving back to Calgary from Fort McMurray (the land of overpriced terrible haircuts) I was looking for a stylist in Calgary. I tried a few places that were good but I found the atmosphere too stuffy for my tastes(Eveline Charles). I tried pure form on a whim since it wasn't far from my house and they offer a discount if you get a cut and highlights. When I first went to see Lindsay I was looking to do quite a drastic cut as well as blonde highlights that would need to last me through 8 weeks straight of field work. Lindsay did an awesome job, was easy to talk to and was very fast but thorough. Throughout my field work people repeatedly said the cut and colour really suited me and they wouldn't have known my natural hair colour was so dark if I didn't tell them. I have since gone back to Lindsay several times for colour and trims (growing my hair out for weddings before I let Lindsay chop it off again) and although it is expensive it is one luxury I will continue to afford myself. read more
