Absolutely the worst experience. Checking in was a shit show, but that was golden compared to waiting over an hour for the shuttle. When it started storming we called the number on the tubes and the girl that answered said she didn't know where the bus was and that it wasn't her job. Then a horrible thunderstorm started. Still no shuttle. A whole bunch of other people were now waiting and some even chose to try to call a cab. When the shuttle finally arrived, too many people piled on (standing room only), and the driver spent most of the trip trying to text the other shuttle. Then another driver (who didn't know how to drive stick) tried to drive. It was comically awful. At least it would've been if we weren't into hour 2 of hour 3 mile shuttle trip back to the car. And when we finally arrived back at the car - the chick at the check in place told us it wasn't her problem and if we wanted a refund, we'd have to go somewhere else. You're better off setting $30 on fire than dealing with these people. Buy your own tubes and just take 2 cars. read more

Purchased my deal through LivingSocial. Two-to-Six people on the 3- or 5-hour Rafting Trip down the Chattahoochee. My wife and I were excited to take my Sister and Brother-in-Law, and our Niece and Nephew down the river. My wife and I have been rafting before and have always had a blast. We wanted to introduce our family to it to get them ready for next year on the Nantahala. We should have just saved our money. Prior to scheduling, we had a few questions. Tried calling their number... No answer... Voicemail box full... Tried a few more times throughout the day, no luck. At the end of the day, one of their guys called back. Attitude was high, Professionalism didn't exist. Could not believe this guy was calling on behalf of a company. Took five minutes to answer one question, and went back and forth on the answer before finally settling on what he told us. Scheduling wasn't bad. The website leaves a bit to be desired, especially in the clarity of the scheduling part. However, I was able to figure out the extra steps, then get everything scheduled. A five-hour tour down the Chattahoochee (as outlined on the Living Social deal). Tickets came in my e-mail soon after, printed, and ready. Prepared the required Waivers for all six members of our party to make sure things would go smoothly when we arrived.. Arrived on time with little in the way of trouble regarding location. But, once there, parking was easy, fairly large area, plenty of space (at that time). Went to check in for our appointment, but there was a line. Took about 15 minutes to go through the three people (all tubing, no rafting) in front of us. Only one person helping anyone. We provided our tickets, got told to wait to the side, but nothing else. Another fifteen minutes.. the kids have their life vests on, the adults have nothing. We're not told that it'll be a few minutes, Nothing. Finally, after about 25 minutes from us checking in, we're told our raft is ready, we have four life vests and four paddles in the boat, and we have to help carry the raft to the water. No, I don't have a problem with carrying my raft to the water. My problem is the way we were told. After reading the website, I knew that the Five-Hour/Full Day tour was supposed to put in up-river of the meeting location. The person assisting us (taking our raft to the water) told me "no, they all go in here". Having read the site, I knew better, but I was hopeful that maybe the attitude and lack of professionalism was just a bad start to a day, and that perhaps he was right on the put-in location. It's my first time with Urban Currents, so I had only the information I'd read online (on their site) to go by. As a staff member, I thought he knew more than I did, so I let it go. As soon as we hit the water, I saw our first bridge was going to be the I-285 bridge. As outlined on their site, the first bridge is supposed to be Johnsons Ferry Rd. Needless to say, I already knew I had been on the short end of the deal. My family and I enjoyed our 2-hour adventure. Once on the river, things were pretty smooth. A few hiccups here or there, but that was more the way our party was paddling than anything else. Overall, the river was going slow and steady, very little in the way of a current, a great first time experience for my Niece and Nephew. As our adventure came to an end, 2-hours into us getting on the river, we're met by a single person with the Urban Currents logo shirt. He helps us get stopped and pulled to the side, but then (again), we have to carry the raft up the ramp to a grassy area about 50 feet from the river. The raft, according to their guy, is approximately 140lbs when fully inflated. Approximately 20 minutes after getting off the river, the shuttle bus arrives. I can understand a 20-30 minute run-time for the shuttle. It's frustrating sitting on a rock in the sun waiting for a bus for 20 minutes, but it's understandable that they can't have a bus there every minute. I believe a covered seating area, even if it's just park benches or wooden benches, would have been a lot more comfortable. But, I can't rate them on the lack of benches as it is a National Recreation Area. After getting on the bus, we sat... Not for two or three minutes.. About 10-15 minutes after boarding the bus, we started our ride back to the put-in location. Upon returning to the put-in location, I approached the check in desk and asked who I needed to speak with about a complaint. The same person I spoke with nearly 3 hours earlier to get set up pointed me to the guy that drove us back. I approached the guy, frustrated (obviously) but professionally, and expressed my concern over being put on the wrong rafting adventure. His response was, and I quote, "You still came in for less than 50% of what you would have paid.", followed by "we had a problem with the bus, it wasn't "logistically possible" to honor the product we signed up for. read more

Urban Currents earns a solid '0'!!!!!!!!!!!! They do not care about their customers. They don't return phone calls or emails to let you know the status of your reserved trip. The pick up bus comes late. They do not call you or post anywhere (website, facebook, twitter, etc) that trips have been cancelled. Don't be tricked by their Groupon offer. Stay away!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Give your business to a reputable river trip operator who knows how to run a modern business and communicate with its customers. read more

I wish I had read these reviews prior to working with Urban Currents. Their customer service is abysmal - the employees working in the office didn't know how to run credit cards for payment, then we were yelled at by the bus driver to hurry up. Once we went to drop-off point to get our tubes and lifejackets, the on-site staff yelled at us for picking up the wrong tubes - what do they expect when they just stand around and point at their disorganized mess of inner tubes? Altogether, this company has the management capacity of high school sophomores. Atrocious. I would absolutely not recommend using them. read more

I know a lot of reviewers had bad things to say, but I must say we experienced nothing negative. I reserved a kayak trip online and Kirk, our driver, was friendly. We were visiting from Florida and wanted to go down the Hootch. The scenery was beautiful. Other reviewers complained about rocks, snakes, etc. This is nature! I'm used to seeing gators back home. Just one recommendation, invest in cheap water shoes. Other than that, you can't beat the experience for the price. read more

We rented two kayaks from them and wanted to start at a different spot than where they normally do so they simply said "Okay, where do you want to start and what time and we'll have the kayaks ready for you". Do not waste your time or money on Urban Currents! Completely unorganized with unfriendly customer service. More than half of our outing was spent waiting around -- a little less than 2 hours kayaking down the Chattahoochee (which was great!) and 2.5+ hours waiting to leave for the river / waiting to get picked up from the river. We booked the 9 AM trip and arrived about 15 minutes early to check in with our Groupon, but didn't end up leaving for the river until around 10:15 AM. Our bus driver quickly admitted that he'd never driven a bus before, let alone a bus pulling a trailer packed with kayaks. He also asked if anyone on the bus (all customers, by the way) knew where the drop off location was. Crickets. So he googled it on his phone. We drove 35 MPH on the highway in a rickety old bus... Once FINALLY on the river, we had a blast! The 6 mile trip took us a little less than 2 hours. It wasn't guided and I'm by no means an expert but we were able to navigate the rocks without getting stuck too many times. Over half of the trip was smooth sailing, basically like a lake. Once out of the water, we waited over an hour for the Urban Currents shuttle to pick us up, despite the fact that we were told they would have four buses running throughout the day to ensure those who finished the trip earlier wouldn't have to wait. As more and more people from our group finished, we tried to call but never received an answer, only a recorded message. So expect that if you finish early or mid-pack (or probably at any point), you'll have a nice long wait at the end in your wet clothes. Our bus back was PACKED, with several people standing in the aisle. The driver was also holding her cell phone while steering the entire way. We arrived at Urban Currents around 2:30 PM. At no point during the entire 2.5+ hours of waiting did any employee apologize or appear the least bit remorseful. I'm just thankful we survived the bus ride to and from the river. There are far too many options for kayaking and tubing in Atlanta to waste time and money on Urban Currents. read more

The main guy cussed at customers who needed a 2 person boat because of their two young kids, but he said they were SOL and other profanity directed at a few other customer's questions. The bus was old and scary while the driver drove crazy all over the road. Also they had to stop to get gas while we were on the bus?! It took over 1.5 hours to head to the drop off point on our 2 pm kayaking trip today. Thank goodness it was a beautiful day to salvage everyone in the group's mood! Urban Currents gave us value for our money. We got on the water quickly and they gave adequate instructions. We had to wait a bit on the ride, but I think that was due to customer-provided equipment and a few folks that decided to beach on a sandbar in rafts promised to other customers (read we had to wait on them to polish off their cooler). Don't listen to the whiners who got stuck on rocks or the river (an entire river) being too crowded, or did not get curbside service. They paid for a rented tube ride down dirty river in metro Atlanta not a cruise on the Queen Mary. read more

To the person who said they "do not understand how ANYONE could miss the boat ramp to exit", you are an ignorant and presumptuous fool. Our group was swept by a strong current due to heavy rains well past the exit ramp, and there was absolutely NO WAY for us to steer our floats to the ramp. Believe me, we all tried like crazy to get over there... obviously we wanted to get out at that point as opposed to being swept downstream. And NO, we were not too drunk to see it!!! I fully concur with all the other one-star reviews of this company. Horribly, terribly mismanaged to the point of being dangerously negligent. I have been around water my whole life and have tubed and rafted many times before, but this was by far the most harrowing experience. Urban Currents did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to prepare us for the possibility we would miss the exit and did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to help get us out of the river. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Do not waste your time or money. Got a groupon for kayaking and showed up 10 minutes early to the address at which their website said to meet. We were told that we were at the wrong place and directed to an office park the company operates out of. After showing up 5 minutes past our schedule time the staff told us to just wait a few minutes for the next bus to come back around and take us down to the river. 40 minutes later a bus shows up and the driver (who I assume was also the owner) tells us that we missed the kayaking trip. Are you kidding me? Why were we told to wait? He then told us that we must have been really late because he waited for late people to show up. Lies. To compensate us for our trouble he offered to let us go tubing at that time for half off of the price. Why would I pay you another dime!? I would have much rather gotten my groupon refunded, instead he ended up giving us another groupon adding 2 more guests to our trip. I don't even want to use it. read more

Booking the appointment was very smooth and they were nice in the office and helpful. The actual kayak trip was very disorganized. We waited on the bus to leave for more than 30 min. My boyfriend got off to get something and then 3 min later of course the driver comes back and takes off without him! It was a small group, he definitely noticed and if he didn't He didn't ask if everyone was there. My boyfriend ended up having to follow behind the bus. When we got to the location to get in, we weren't told if we should leave our stuff on the bus or not ( the same bus didn't pick us back up at the end). They never told us about rocks. The calm waters turned rough after a while and we got stuck for 10 min on a rock. One woman tipped because of the rocks scraped her knee and lost her car keys. At the end the tour guides were no where to be found so we called the office and it was closed for the day...even though our tour was still going on. Finally one of the instructors showed up in his swim trunks and asked us where the bus was! I can see why they have to advertise on groupon. read more

As dozens of other people will tell you, stay away from this business. If you have a Groupon, do yourself a favor and call and ask for a refund. They are using unlicensed drivers and the owner is a bully who couldn't care less about safety or his customers. We showed up there on Monday with our reservation for 3, my husband, my daughter, and me. The owner yelled at me for not printing out my Groupon. It was fine because I was able to go get it from my phone. He then charged us a $2 per person "river fee." We were told we'd put in just north of I285 which would give us about an hour ride, not the three hours promised by the Groupon deal. We waited for the bus. Twenty-four people plus the driver were crammed onto a short school bus with some people left to stand. The bus was not air conditioned. The driver didn't know how to open the door. We all sat there for 15 minutes while she tried to figure it out. Her father came on the bus to show her how to open the door and told us not to worry, she'd driven the route once before and he promised us nothing would happen. Valuing our lives and that of our daughter, we got off the bus and left. From the time we arrived to the time we left, we'd been there an hour and had never left the parking lot. read more

I wish there was a big fat zero star for this company as we were not even able to go on the paddle we pre paid for (through Groupon). I have never left a bad yelp review for anything but after wasting half our our day in Atlanta I am so disappointed and angry and don't want anyone else to go through the same thing. We made our reservations online and I even called and confirmed with a woman who answered the phone we could use the groupon. When we arrived at 1:40 for the 2pm paddle at the address noted, we could not find their office space or a person who worked for Urban Currents. We saw buses and kayaks in the parking lot, but the office building was run down and doors were not labeled. In fact, on the diretory the company listed at 450 (supposedly their address) was not Urban Currents. We tried calling the main number and another number given for "immediate assistance:" but no one ever answered or called us back. I am a pretty laid back and understanding person and had someone taken the time to call us and say that they were running late for whatever reason (I know they have our number bc it's part of the reservations process) we might have been willing to wait or at least made an informed decision about whether it was worth waiting longer. However, the shady, poorly labeled office space with no signage and no person there or reachable by phone is inexcusable. We drove 30 minutes to get there, waited almost an hour and then had to drive 30 minutes back to our hotel and at that point it was too late in the day to make other plans. Hoping we can at least get a refund from Groupon, but in the meantime wanted to make sure others don't waste their time or money. read more

This company is AWFUL!!! Do not use them at all. We purchased tickets on Groupon for tubing, and the service we received was horrible. First -the directions were not clear. The address on the tickets are different then the actual location. They are located on RIveredge Pkwy-not Interstate North Pkwy they have listed. When we got to the location- I had to interrupt the girl at the tent three times before she would even turn around to talk to me. They gave us some short directions on where to get off at the end of the trip, which was go down two bridges and at the second bridge- go right and look for a boat ramp. When we get there- we waited at least a hour before the bus or shuttle came for us. They were there, but to take other people who were kayaking further up the river. Told us we would have to wait. We sat for an hour waiting..... I will never use them again!! They only have two shuttle buses and do not care about there customers. Their employees are not very nice or helpful at all. It's very difficult to find their designated meeting place. It's in the rear corner of a office park off Windy Hill. They are not marked as the tenant. When you get there, you will find there are fees not mentioned so bring cash money. There are no restrooms. The waiting area is in the parking lot of the office Park. Our trip was delayed more than an hour and there were no apologies or compensations offered we simply stood in the office park parking lot. And did I mention there were no restrooms. About an hour and a half after showing up we got to see some moving water. It was the tobacco chewing bus driver spitting into a clear plastic cup. It was not white water. Unless you want to be treated like river scum, don't try this. I would've come out ahead of the game if I had just left as soon as I showed up. read more

We used the group-on for the kayaking trip, went on a weekday morning. It was only me, my girlfriend, and one other couple. The staff -- one dude -- was nice enough. We the bus ride was nice, even though a washer from a malfunctioning gear lever hit me in the face. Everything was very hands-off. Even though we had no kayaking experience, we were left to our own devices with little to no instruction. But I didn't mind. The nature on the Chattahoochee was astounding. You might think that being in the middle of the city it would be sparse, but quite the opposite. We saw cranes, herons, otters, and tons of turtles. I think that being in the city, the isolated areas that are still somewhat natural are wildlife's only refuge. The kayaking itself was less enjoyable, but not terrible. The water is awfully shallow in places, quite rapid in others, and getting stuck on rocks was not uncommon. Maybe a more experienced kayaker would have avoided them more deftly. I flipped the kayak when I came sideways against a rock. It wasn't fun, but I was able to get back in after a minute; it could easily have gone less happily. I would do it again. The price was right, and the hands off style suited my tastes. It is not a kayak instruction course, and it is not guided. You can take your time, but you also have to sort out your own difficulties. read more

You are better off sitting on top of an empty box of Sweetwaters than using this company to shoot the 'Hooch. I agree with the other reviewers on here that they are disorganized and understaffed and seem to have never heard of the concept of punctuality or time for that matter. We showed up 40 minutes early for our 2 o'clock reservation and didn't get on the water until 3:45. When we got out the bus had already left and we had to wait for half an hour in the rain. I know its not that big of a deal especially as we were already pretty wet from the river but hanging out with a bunch of drunk old rednecks in a bathroom while it thundered outside around us wasn't part of the plan for the day. On top of that, the staff seemed more concerned about getting the rafts back in the truck and the director started yelling at me when I politely inquired about the whereabouts of the bus. Would not recommend, a complete and utter ish show. read more

Avoid this company at all costs! The owner, "Chuck", has a quick temper and no respect for his customers! I will admit that his equipment is top notch but that is the only nice thing that can be said about this man and my trip down river. I purchased a groupon (two groupons for a total of 16 tickets) and added 2 additional riders at the site. We had a scheduled appointment and arrived promptly to find Chuck and one employee setting up and blowing up tubes. (Note* this is not a brick and mortar establishment, but rather he hauls the floats out to the State Park and sets up there.) We find out on site that unlike most tubing companies, you are not transported upstream and float back down to your car but instead you must wait for a small bus to drive out to the pick up site and give you a lift BACK to your car. We were assured this would be a 20 minute wait at most. (more on that later) After filling out our waivers, getting life vests and tubes, Chuck gives us a quick run down... All under 12 must wear vest, all must have one on them. This is a State Park, there are Rangers. Follow the trail over the bridge and around the corner...jump in. Pass the second bridge (actually the 4th as 3 bridges were grouped together at the start of the trip) get to the right side of the river and look for a boat ramp. That is where you exit. This was the extent of our preparation. Now picture the widest spot in the Chattahoochee...and jump in. Maybe this is on me but I was picturing the river up in Helen. Big difference but I'll call foul on myself on not doing better research. The river in this area is also a bit nasty. Being from the south-side I pictured it a bit cleaner but again this is not disparaging towards Urban Currents but simply to give you a better picture of this entire experience. The rest of my party caught a few good currents and made it to the docking point before myself and my boyfriend. I mention this because at that moment there was a shuttle bus there, it pulled out just as I emerged from the water. Our friends, of course, decided to wait on us. Please note that we have several children in our group and this was a VERY hot day. After 20ish minutes I called Chuck to ask if the shuttle was on its way. I was very polite at this point...Chuck's response? The shuttle just left 15 minutes ago so you can't have been waiting very long! There was a nice young man there deflating tubes. He had no phone and was at a loss to do with us. He kept apologizing repeatedly as he could see how miserable the kids were getting. (Note* this sweet young fellow was fired that day.) So 30 more minutes pass and still no shuttle. I call Chuck back and this time he hangs up on me. I tried to get the "Nice young fellow" to drive me back to my van. He agreed but as soon as he saw Chuck driving up he panicked and said he had to get back to deflating tubes. Chuck comes up, all full of piss and vinegar, halfway apologizing but telling me I should be happy because I got half off because of the groupon. I told him he had a very bad personality for customer service and that I didn't appreciate being hung up on. People, I was actually a bit frightened of this man. It looked like it was all he could do to restrain himself. I don't think he had ever had a woman talk to him like this! After a bit of back and forth my boyfriend said, "that's enough" and Chuck walked off. Chuck then goes over and starts berating the "Nice young fellow". I defend him and tell Chuck that his manners were impeccable, you could learn a lot from him. (I was pretty steamed at this point)Chuck then fires the "Nice young fellow". The "nice young fellow" even apologized again while walking away to his car.... An hour has passed now... Chuck explains to the group at large (now containing several other families/groups) that his one driver took some kayakers up river without telling him and should be here shortly. Said driver arrives soon after and is then loudly dressed down in front of everyone. Chuck then forces him to come apologize to us. He ends his apology with, "I hate my job". In the interim we decided that only drivers would leave and the other adults and kids would wait for our friends and family to pick us up. Chuck actually approaches us again, demanding we board the bus and says he will not leave without us. People when I say demand...I mean it! Another female spoke to him and dealt with that, telling him he needed to get away from us, we were done with him and would wait for our spouses to come get us. Please folks, do your self a favor and avoid this company at all costs! There are no safety provisions, zero assistance getting in or out of the river, and the owner treats his employees like dirt as well as his customers. read more

Wow! Wish I could rate this company with zero stars!!! A group of 4 of us attempted to use our Groupon deal this past Saturday. After my cousin realized that it could not be used on a Sat (after being belittled by the owner), we decided to just go ahead and pay them $100 to go anyways bc we really wanted to go. So we walked up and grabbed clipboards with the waivers on them to fill out. The owner began making comments about how we were not allowed to use the clipboards and we should have just taken the paper off to fill it out. I then looked at this guy like he was so joking... But he was not! He then became irate and called my cousin an "asshole" and stated suddenly that they were closed and that we could not go down the river (while more people were signing up!) I could not believe that this man, who said his name was "Chuck" was verbally aggressive with us when we made a mistake and tried to use our Groupon!!! Thank goodness High Country agreed to stay open a little later and let us go down! I'm so sorry these other customers have had similar service with this company!! And the fact that when Chuck responded to these comments, he gave himself a rating of 5 stars. Please!!!! We will be contacting Groupon as we do not want to use this company! Stay away from this guy!!! Many other companies will happily take you down and treat you with respect! We even saw some other customers later down the river complaining about Urban currents!!! read more

BAD MANAGEMENT, BAD ORGANIZATION, NO SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS, NO SENSE OF RESPONSIBILITY, BORDERLINE NEGLIGENCE IT IS A SURPRISE THIS ORGANIZATION IS STILL OPERATING. I DO NOT HAVE ANY ISSUES WITH RUNNING A SMALL SEASONAL BUSINESS ... BUT ATLEAST RUN IT WELL AND WITH SOME SENSE OF RESPONSIBILITY OR IT WILL BE TOO LATE BEFORE THEY GET THEIR ACT TOGETHER. IF YOU ARE WILLING TO SPEND ON LAWYER FOR A WAIVER ... AT THE VERY LEAST SPEND AN EXTRA 10CENTS MORE AND PRINT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS AS WELL!!!! This was the first and the worst experience on Chattahoochee with Urban Currents. On 7/20 a group of 8 of us got a groupon with UC to go tubing off on Chattahoochee off of Cumberland exit 1) There were 2 kids who met us at the designated points to sign-wavers and hand the tubes. The girl was more in a rush to pack up and leave. The instructions were poor, insufficient and ill managed and had we not asked her she wouldn't even have told us where the exit ramps are! HOW CAN THEY OPERATE LIKE THIS! At the very least they could have either handed us a map or if they are that cheap atleast a big map on an easle under their tent would have provided better information than the kid who would have rather not been there. 2) We were told that life jackets were not mandatory and not one but 3 times. But we are glad that we took for each one of us not withstanding the bad advise. (the jackets literally turned out to be life savers ) 3) At the exit ramps there are no signs or anyone from UC to help pull you in 4) The weather turned horrible with heavy rains and flash floods. This was our first experience on Chattahoochee .. whereas UC has been operating there for several and should have 1) at the very least warned us that currents get very swift 2) for safety reasons closed the operations for the rest of the evening 3) Tell us what to do in case we miss the exit ramps! ... NO FROM UC INFORMED US OF ANY OF THIS 5) close to the exit ramp the river spilts with a pretty sizable island and merges back right in front of the exit ramp ... in a swift down current ... there is no way you can make it to exit ramp and you just keep floating down with the currents. (NO INSTRUCTIONS WERE GIVEN IN CASE YOU MISSED THE EXIT RAMPS!) 6) The river is full of rocks and if it rains ... the currents get VERY SWIFT! 7) After we missed the exit .. we got split some of us were able to hang on to a branch and got off on small island and were rescued by the Fire department. Others got swept downstream. We literally had to jump off of our tubes in the water and swim to the river bank. Finally we called 911 and the rescue trucks came to help us. 8) We weren't the only ones .. there were was a family of four with 2 children, and another group of 4 adults ... ALL HAD BEEN TUBING WITH URBAN CURRENTS!! RIDICULOUS! read more

What a horrible experience! We were given NO directions today but were pointed in the direction of the bridge so we let in at the first ramp. We went downstream to a dead end with lots of litter and had to either get out of our tubes and walk over what looked like could be the bedding of homeless people or hand paddle back up the river to the bridge. We hand paddled and were exhausted but found the correct drop in point and went on our way. We were the second group on the river that day and when we found the exit ramp we waited 35 minutes for the shuttle (the first group was still waiting and ended up waiting over an hour... they were NOT happy either). At NO point did anyone give directions, go over safety (the river is shallow and not many people realize that) as their motto says, etc. I called the owner just to share a preventable experience and he was sarcastic with me saying, "oh yeah, tubing is strenuous" and laughing at our going on the wrong ramp. When I just told him that I am never one to complain to a company and that a normal person would probably be asking for money back (I was NOT asking for money back but more telling him that my complaint is one to take seriously) he went off on me, told me to put my "big girl panties on" and to "quit complaining about stepping in mud." STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I Scheduled trip using Groupon and arrived for a fun trip with the family. We filled out the waivers and waited to leave, but the transport vehicle would not start. Not a huge deal as things happen. Unfortunately when they could not get it to work the driver called the owner to bring the larger vehicle which requires a CDL license and the owner is the only one with a CDL. The owner said he didn't want to come out because he had better things to do and it was the end of the season anyway so he told the driver to cancel the trip. Some people offered to drive themselves, but there would be no way to return to your vehicle. He would not answer the phone once he hung up with the driver. I SOOOOO wish I would have checked out yelp before spending money on this Groupon. Lesson learned and it won't happen again. After reading these horrible reviews I think my biggest concern is that Groupon still works with them. read more

Lousy experience. Absolutely amateur operation, terrifying ride to the river in a school bus that shouldn't be on the road let alone the freeway, and pretty much no customer service at all. Avoid at all cost - there's plenty of better places to rent kayaks. read more

From the moment I purchased this on groupon my disappointment began. They do not answer their phones at all. They ask that you complete waivers and reservations online. Then have no record of them in the office and admit to never looking at the online submissions. After telling serveral people in our group to arrive 10-15 minutes before 9am to prepare for the trip, they didn't actually arrive at the office until 9. Then, I waited OVER an hour and a half for the shuttle to pick us up. He couldn't even fit the whole group on the bus, even with people standing in the isle (keep in mind we go on the highway) he told those who cannot fit they'd be waiting another hour. Several guests called taxis after they couldn't bear waiting in the hot sun any longer. And to top it all off the employees had an absolutely disgusting attitude about the situation. Clearly leaving your buisness to be run by teenagers caused a huge lack in management and organization not to mention customer service. Please save yourself the trouble. The river is beautiful but DO NOT USE URBAN CURRENTS!!! read more

My friend and I had purchased a deal for paddle boarding and used it a few days ago. HUGE MISTAKE. The address on the website took us to the wrong location, where a very unhappy person yelled at us for not reading our ticket correctly to find the address...she was a nightmare to talk to, and we were not the only ones that showed up to that location. So we finally get to the right (very strange) office location and check in with disgruntled, unhappy employee #2. About 45 minutes later, after our "tour guide" figured out how how many paddle boards and rafts we needed (and sitting on a very hot bus with clearly more people than should have been allowed on, and telling at us for his job being so difficult) we were on our way. We arrive and immediately captain disorganized gets in a tiff with the park ranger and almost gets a ticket, probably for having twice as many people on the bus as there should have been. After that entertaining show, we finally get in the water (almost 2 hours later) and were off. Oh...they tell you to bring towels and stuff but then the guide will yell at you for bringing said stuff, and will have no where to store it. Seriously it's like this was the first time they have ever tried to do this! The trip went fine but I would NEVER use this highly unorganized, Unprofessional, absolutely RUDE, company again. THIS COMPANY DESERVES ZERO STARS. This is a great idea what Urban Currents has set up, however they have no organization, the worst customer service and their website does not match up with what the employees state. I have never had a more terrible experience than with Urban Currents. First, the website clearly states that the last time in the river is 4:00. We showed up a 2:30 to a rude employee on a personal phone call in the office. She stopped briefly to say, "What do y'all want?" Uhh, we would like to tube? After filling out a waiver, we were told that we were too late and the last ride of the day would be at 2:30. Then, another customer walked in and had apparently been waiting for their kayak shuttle since 1:30 and asked to speak to the manager. The employee stated that the manager was a f*%$ing d*ck and had a large gut. He would tell her the same thing she said last time - THE SHUTTLE IS ON THE WAY. I could go on an on about the utter rudeness of the employees and eventually the owner, but I think everyone else in their reviews has this covered. After we finally made our shuttle and to the river we actually received our floats relatively quickly, but there was a huge crowd of people waiting for tubes for about 45 minutes. The tubing experience was wonderful & now that we know where the drop in sites are and how to plan, we will use our own cars and floats! After floating for a couple hours we were done and had to wait for the shuttle for a good 30 minutes. This "shuttle" was a bus that had to have been 30 years old and stalled out a couple times on the way to our cars. I did not feel safe in this vehicle and we could have easily bee in an accident. Overall, I loved tubing, but this company is the WORST and should be avoided at all costs. read more

This review is long, but hopefully has some useful info for future tubers. We took our 2nd trip down the 'Hooch this past Saturday. We bought tickets via a coupon site and made easy online reservations. That is the extent of the "easy" part of our trip. Check in: wasn't too bad, gave voucher to young lady maning the table, get tubes and paddles (she had no change so we lost a few dollars there (prices were diff on website, they charged for tubes, paddles, ?river fee? And a park fee. Apparently, a "coupon voucher" covers either just the tubes or everything but the park fee; the girls couldn't make up their minds who was correct so we paid the little extras) and turn in waivers. Had to sign a waiver for everyone in our party: It was pretty nondescript, w/ general terms and no directions about what to do if you needed the company after you started your float. (And NO emergency numbers at all. I guess this should'v e sent up a red flag. Honestly, I don't remember if it's the same one I signed last year, but we did not encounter a single problem. We got in , floated, had help out, our car was waiting, and everything went great.) We also had to arrange for pick up from the take out sight. The girls each gave a different story on what was supposed to happen so we didn't know Either! *per protocol from last year; you packed all the gear you needed on the river and then one person drove to the take out sight so that everything is ready when you get out and noone has to wait for a shuttle ride back. Also, that means the company has to only shuttle one person. Otherwise, they had told us that it would be a separate charge for each person ($11-15 per person depending on who you asked.) Meanwhile, in the background there are 2 guys. The one guy in the green shirt was "the boss" and was yelling to the others that he had no idea what or who was on the river and they were real behind. He was trying to talk on the phone and corral his young toddler son at the same time. However, what was Really confusing was the shuttleing of people and vehicle to take out point. Since we were told 2 diff stories and neither person was sure if she was correct, I tried to speak w/ the "boss" but he told me to "go back to the tent area that I came from." and would not listen to anything I had to say. ( I felt bad for the guy, but he was horribly rude and we had a pertinant question about logistics.) After polling some of the other people waiting to get onto the river from UC, it wasn't any clearer. One party had been instructed like we had, the other had been told to go park at the take out point like we did last year. So, we opted to just get in, we paid our $3 park fee, hung the taggy on the rearview mirror and were on the way. *be extra careful when getting in, its way Slick and you will fall, no matter what type of shoes you are wearing; and there was NOONE to help people in. Last year there were people from the companies And park rangers. So, good time was had by all until a few hours later and the monsoon hits. Most everyone decided to get out of the water as it seemed the storm was right over us. Some people decided to hoof it out along the bank, but we had no idea how far it would be. When it calmed down some, we got back in hoping the take out point wasn't far away, we were ready to be out of the water! One reviewer noted that there aren't maps or good directions about where you need to get out. THEY ARE RIGHT! The company tells you its near the 2nd bridge, but you go under several before you get there. Last year, there were a lot more people getting out and the companies had workers there to help people out and collect their gear. This year, it was completely Deserted. Noone was there, and by this time, the water was rising so fast the current so strong, we were unable to get to the bank. We ended up drifting about a half- one mile further downstream. We finally managed to get to the bank and hoof it out through someone's back yard. There, we met up with the other party that had half of their people stranded. I called 911 for them, and police and fire responded immediately. All the while, I was calling Urban Currents to let them know that we had missed the take out point, that we were trying to get back to them and return their equipment and get a ride back to our car. NOONE EVER RETURNED OUR CALLS. One of the policemen took pity on us (2 adults, 2 kids, 4 huge tubes w/ lifejackets and a cooler) and asked where our company was; I explained what happened and that I had been calling them. He went over to the take out site and brought them to us. (they never did ask us if we were the ones calling, lost, or anything. They had no clue who we were, just that we had their floats. ) All's well that ends well: the other parties got their people out and reunited, but I was SO disappointed in the company. They offered NO customer service and did not care enough to give us a call back to make sure we got out. read more

I will preface this in saying that the actual kayaking part of this was amazing. It was a 6 mile run and it was such a beautiful day -we had a lot of fun. However, the service was literally the worst I've ever experienced. The entire thing was highly unorganized, but we were hanging out so we didn't mind all that much that everything was running behind schedule. We get on a bus to be shuttled to our departure point and the entire way the bus driver was texting and driving. Not safe, not professional- especially with a bus full of younger children. We waited to get our kayaks and paddles and one of the guys in charge started yelling at a family (including swearing) in front of everyone. Very strange, but we shrugged it off and figured he was having a bad day. We kayak, the route is pleasant- very pretty and relaxing. We were the last group of people to get back and left our kayaks on the ramp with about ten others. The same instructor from before snapped at us, scolded us, and told us we had to bring ALL the kayaks back up the ramp or we would be ticketed. I asked him why this was even an argument, he yelled at me. Why can't you back your truck down to the edge of the water and make everyones lives a little easier? Why wouldn't you help a group of 6 women and children lug these double kayaks (that don't even belong to us) all the way up to the truck. And LASTLY why the hell would you let us struggle with those *15 kayaks for nearly 30 minutes and not tell us that there is a plug that would allow us to drain all the water before transporting them. I was amazed. One other guy showed up and started helping and was also incredibly creepy. All in all- a good experience because only 10% of the time was spent dealing with those assholes but I would never ever return. read more

What's technical about a kayak and a paddle? I had to rearrange both our schedules to accommodate this trip and the manner in which he left the message pretty much said " tough sh*t". DON'T USE THIS COMPANY!!! I know there is a really great groupon out there but resist the deal! Just pay full price somewhere else! I called and they lady I spoke with asked us to sign the waivers online before we arrived - our entire group did this only to find that they needed "hard copy" waivers once we arrived and so we all filled them out AGAIN. Although we had called ahead the previous day to let them know what time we would arrive, we stood around in the parking lot for 1.5 hours with several other groups waiting to be taken to the river. We were told to get on a bus, but once they realized that we all couldn't fit, the driver made a phone call and told us all to move to a different bus.. where we just sat in the sweltering heat for 15 minutes. After much confusion about how many kayaks they needed and how many tubes (although we all specified this when we checked in..), they had 1/2 the group get off the bus and go sit on another bus. We sat on our bus for an additional 10 minutes waiting for the staff to get their act together. Once we finally made it to the river... it was great fun!! Our driver told us there would be a Urban Currents staff member in a blue shirt waiting for us when we got out - there was not. And we a group that we recognized from the parking lot of Urban Currents and they told us that they had called to be picked up but were told that they would have to wait until there were more people before anyone would come pick them up and that was 30 minutes ago. Once we arrived, they tried calling again (as did we) but couldn't get through. We eventually got through and after waiting for 40 minutes, a driver showed up (keep in mind they are coming from about 3 miles away). We spent about 15 minutes waiting as they loaded up the misc. tubing/kayaking equipment laying around (there were stacks of tubes and way more kayaks than there were people.. people must have gotten impatient and left). One of the men who had gone tubing was loading the equipment up on the truck for them - it was outrageous! I will NEVER again tube with this company. Although the staff was friendly, the management must be awful! They were so disorganized and we spent more time standing around waiting on the company to get their act together than we did on the river. read more

I have NEVER had worse service than I received from Urban Currents. Things started well when I ordered two tubes and a cooler tube online 3 days before Shooting the Hooch. I paid $65 total, and received a voice mail a few minutes later saying that their website had a glitch - the order had been deleted after I paid, but all I needed to do was text the person letting them know what and when I purchased. Not a problem! I texted Chuck, and got a nice response. Everything was fine until day-of. Sunday (today), 9 others and I parked in the Urban Currents lot and approached the girl at the tent. From the very start, she was unbelievably, inexplicably rude. I purchased my tubes and signed waivers online, like a responsible Hooch Shooter - she let me (and all other customers) know that absolutely didn't matter - she had NO idea what we paid for, and didn't care that we had signed waivers through the website. We had to show our receipts, which was fine, and had to sign waivers in person. We also had to pay a $1 per person 'river fee' that is apparently refunded if you purchase online (?) but has to be paid in person. Had this info been delivered in a friendly fashion, I would have been totally fine...but this girl treated us as if we were belligerent, horrible customers when we were actually a group of fun/patient young people. She sighed, eye-rolled, and even made a scene when we asked for one more cable to tie our 12 tubes together. After all of this shenanigans and $65 for 2 tubes + 1 regular tube with a crappy 'cooler' insert, I can say for sure that I'll never, ever spend money with Urban Currents again. read more

By far the worst experience I've ever had. We made a reservation for 1230. Arrived at noon and proceeded to wait until after 1 o'clock to get on the shuttle. Once we arrived at the location to put tubes in we were informed that they were out. It is now an hour and a half after our reservation time and still no tubes. Waiting as the day passes by and as the rude lady reminded us, we will be charged if we try to get on the shuttle after 630.... Never again. read more

The worst customer service I have ever experienced. They called 30 minutes before our appointment time and rescheduled us; when we did show up for the new time, no one was there; no one would answer the phone after 7-8 attempts. We left after waiting 25 minutes. They finally called us back 30 minutes after our scheduled arrival time claiming the driver was now there, then hung up on us when we started complaining. It was so abhorrent it was almost laughable. Completely different experience than we had from them last year. NEVER AGAIN. Stay far, far away! read more

This place is terrible! Let this be a warning and avoid this service at all cost. The management does an awful job of running things. Our voucher was not fully acknowledged by the manager, even though we have already prepaid for our tubing trip. Our bus driver was not licensed to do so, nor could she drive a stick shift. She actually was a friend hired on the spot. Their training consists of driving around the parking lot while waiting for people. Please heed my warning and spend your money else where. read more

I too had a very negative experience with Chuck the owner. Chuck refers to serving his customers as "flushing them out". Interesting choice of words. The business model is flawed!! For less than half his price we found several outfitters within an hour of Atlanta that offered a more professional experience, and more importantly...businesses that treated customers with respect. read more
