Very fun and enjoyable to float down the Hooch. There's an option to rent floats, or if you are planning to go more than once, I would recommend buying your own floats. It's very easy to inflate and carry down to the river and you can reuse time and time again. If you go this route, it's best to go with another party that can park at the finish spot so you have a ride back to your car when you're all done. The water is pretty calm. It can be a little chilly at first, but you get used to it eventually. I like to bring a paddle with me so I can better control my float. The whole trip takes about 3 hours to enjoy. So bring some friends, pack some drinks and snacks, and enjoy a lazy afternoon on the river. read more

This was a place to be relaxing for tubing. Free parking at Don White Memorial Park where the start off location is. Please note that there is limited parking space available. Upon arriving, the website says that they have different hours of operation on the weekdays and weekends and depending on water levels and condition of day. We came on a Saturday around 3, when last bookings for rentals are at 4. One staff member said they stopped doing walk ins, however they changed their mind so we got lucky.. they charge for the tube which was $22, a "convenience fee," and shuttle charge for $4 a person. And if you want a square cooler tube it was $10. It was a kind of an unprofessional environment with young adults working the table to take in our payments. You have to leave one ID of the whole group you're with for security reasons I'm assuming, but you get it back at the end. Now, we got our tubes and life jackets and off to the Chattahoochee we go! The water was freezing cold even though it was a hot 90° outside. The thing that sucked most was my tube I was in, was already starting to deflate, along with another tube deflating slowly as well. That's wonderful.. There was an accident that happened on the ride down the river. My boyfriend had a shoulder injury previously, and somehow his shoulder dislocated while trying to push off a pier to get us away from the side.. well that was unexpected. It was tough to even get him out of the river and we didn't finish until after 6pm almost 7 by the time I went to grab my ID. And on my way towards the shuttle, not only did it stopped at 6, I wasn't even told they stopped running by that time. So the only option was to take a 5 minute lyft/Uber or walk 30+ minutes back to the starting point where the car is parked. read more

Mine happens to be $10 less than what I paid!!!!!. Even the good reviews say this can be a nightmare experience with their poor logistics, so it's not a surprise they stink in several areas of business. I'm out $200 and THEY cancelled last minute. This stuff happens, weather etc, I get that, but give people their money back Shoot the Hooch! You wouldn't have all these negative reviews! Visited on a Friday afternoon when it was less crowded...My bf and I had a good time, and the majority of the staff was very nice and helpful. We just had a couple of staff members (young boys) that weren't helpful at all. We watched as they helped the group in front of us, and as it was time for us to get into the water, they walked right by us...I stopped them to ask for help, and they wouldn't look our way. Update 2022, another year later and my friend tried to use the credit certificate again with no luck. First, when my friend tried to book her excursion, their website would only let her book under the original names from the original purchase. This would make a phone call/email necessary as waivers are needed for each person in their names and it just wasn't possible to correct on their website. I was notified that a balance due and any other charges incurred would be charged to my credit card- remember, I was told I could give this credit certificate to a friend. I was only in GA for vacation when the original booking was made. My friend had a very difficult time getting ahold of anyone. It seemed that no one was manning the phones and messages were not returned. Finally, on the day of the excursion, someone called me (in CA it was 4am) to let me know that "we" wouldn't be able to Shoot the Hooch that day due to weather. I took the opportunity to let them know what was happening and how my friend had not been able to get ahold of anyone to fix her reservation. I gave them my friends phone # at that time. They did call my friend and rescheduled her for the next day which was cancelled as well. I'm not sure anyone gets to shoot the hooch EVER! I'm surprised to see so many negative reviews... I've been here twice now, first time to rent a double kayak and second time to rent a stand up paddle board, and both times things have gone really smoothly. It was easy enough: I called ahead of time to make sure they had what I wanted available. Then showed up and filled out some paperwork, paid, picked up paddles and lifejackets, and went into the water. I wouldn't say the staff were rude but they're definitely not warm and fuzzy. Still, they got the job done and were helpful when I asked questions. For example, the boat guy let me leave my sandals with him while I took the paddle board out from their beach. Also the girl at the front desk gave me a cushion of thirty minutes to get out on the water in terms of the hour I had paid for. I thought that was nice and very reasonable. They are a bit pricey but if it's a one time novelty thing or you're in town visiting it's not a big deal. It would only get super expensive if you're going back again and again. Just some tips: if you plan on paying by the hour it's helpful to bring some sort of clock out there on the water with you. If this is going to be your phone, bring a water tight sack. And otherwise I recommend a watch or something so you can know when your hour is up and to return to the beach. read more

The only downside was that there wasn't a lot of instruction and we didn't know when we had to get off. Ended up floating past the last takeoff and had to swim backwards to get out. I booked a trip for Memorial Day weekend for 5 kayaks ($420 in total) only to have it cancelled due to high water volumes, and they said they'd issue the refund that Monday. I've done about 20 trips down the hooch and this company is the WORST. No organization at bus pick up location and things were extremely chaotic. There is no designated front of the line while waiting for a bus to be transported to the drop off. Each driver would pick up at a slightly different location which caused me to miss about 5 busses. People were pushing and rushing to the bus before us. My friend got elbowed in the face. Once we finally got on the bus, the driver ate food for about 10 minutes before taking off after everyone loaded onto the but. In total I wasted an 1 1/2 hours from my purchased ticket time waiting to be in line to pick up my tube (not even on the water). One of my families favorite past times UNTIL Shoot the Hooch got involved. Yes they provide the floating experience to city folks who don't know how much they are being ripped off!!!!! Let's begin with me and my friends arriving to the river (not at a shoot the hooch location) to do some casual floating. A police officer shows up and berated us that we HAVE to go through the Shoot the Hooch Company at least for life vest rentals. So of course we agree and head on down to the Shoot the Hooch put in. ( Keep in mind this has never happened in my 26 yrs of doing this during the summer ) BUT I assumed listening to law enforcement would be best. We get to the SHACK where they do rentals. We are unpleasantly greeted by 3 children and a laptop. We request to rent life jackets. They inform us that they do not rent life jackets anymore but sell them ( hmmmmm weird that the COPS are sending us here). I then ask at what point this changed because they DO rent tube/jacket combos and until last month they rented jackets alone. We request to speak to management because they are trying to sell us $5 life jackets for $20. After being told by many levels of management that it doesn't matter we were rudely dismissed. read more

When we arrived 30 minutes before our reservation we waited at the bus stop for an hour before we had to call the company. They were not taking tubers because of unsafe water levels. The manager claims that they were calling over a hundred people but we were never called and after the second hour, the manager comes in person to not say anything different from what was said on the phone. We waited two hours in 90 degree weather just to be told there are no refunds and we essentially will have to wait another hour or so to see if the water will go down. No bathrooms so they except customers to wait over 3 hours and then spend 3 hours in the water all with no bathrooms being offered. Just ridiculous business practices. read more

Went with family and friends. We had to double kayaks that we rented. We were transported to the location up river. When we arrived we asked for our kayaks. We were told there were no double kayaks at this location but they would immediately get them sent to this location. We waited for 30 minutes and checked back in only to find that no one had went to get them yet and they forgot. We received our kayaks about an hour and 10 minutes after we exited the transport bus. Our experience with the business was that there were a lot of young people working who weren't really aware of what was going on. The lack of direction and relative ease this business would take to run just disappointed me in comparison to other businesses. For instance when I asked the front office staff how much it would cost to get the transport if I brought my own kayaks the next time she said they wouldn't even transport us. Everyone who worked here was helpful and efficient. I reserved a canoe for $60, and picking it up was quick and easy. The canoes were shuttled to the drop in location for us, so we didn't have to worry about any heavy lifting or tying it onto a car. It's a $6 fee to ride in the shuttle though, which we avoided by driving ourselves to the drop in location. The rental office forgot to give us an extra seat for our 3 person canoe, so one person had to sit on the bottom. The front office was willing to give me a partial refund though. The facilities and outdoor areas were clean and very family friendly. There were multiple bathrooms and grill/patio areas available. read more

They were zero help and need to overall restaff. The blonde girl (Kristen) who was working the check in and forms with the floats was brutal. My group coming in with positive vibes all first timers to the "shoot the hooch" river experience and they just started it off with a sour taste. Oh, and they ran out of floats and didn't tell us we had to reserve so we took an uber to get some and came back to blow them up... and the kids were again zero help. Isn't their job to help others and better an experience for their visitors? So aggravating. We weren't going to let these miserable teens ruin this- so we had a blast. This is specifically for the Don White location of picking up reserved tubes. My husband, sister and I called Wednesday to reserve tubes for a Saturday afternoon. We waited in "line" for almost 45 minutes until we got antsy and asked what was going on. They had run out of waivers and the self formed "line" was going nowhere. Once we pushed further, we were told if we already had reservations we could go around to the end and there was only 1 person waiting. That woman had waivers, so not sure what the issue was. Either way, this was quite possibly the most inefficient process I have ever seen. My sister and I passed the time waiting by thinking up easy and cheap ways the whole thing could have been overhauled. The river trip itself was fun, although about halfway through, my tube popped a patch and started leaking pretty quickly. Luckily we were with a large group and I was able to jump into an extra tube. Once we got to Azaela, we got out quick, dropped off our tubes and jumped in the shuttle. The best part of the experience was the shuttle and our driver. I made a point to remember his name, but now I can't. He was driving the shuttle from Azaela back to Don White around 5:30 on Saturday July 9th. If you have ANY INKLING that you are going to shoot the hooch more than once, do yourself a favor and buy a tube off of amazon. Came from FL To Tennessee for an event and since we have been Locked up with CoVid we were craving outdoor time , so we booked this tube trip To take in GA for before we headed back home . Tubes were to depart at 1p. At 12p as we were pulling into the parking @ Pace Mill area we got a call that Natl Park said river running too hard so had to cancel tubing . Ok . But we were told no refunds & to check our paperwork , 14 day cancellation policy . Ok but we aren't Cancelling by choice ..... we were there & ready to go !! We were told the policy says nature etc is included in why no refunds but we could "come back any time". We aren't coming back . This was a one time thing . What I would like is my money back for a service I didn't receive through no fault of my own. So note to travellers -- read the paperwork and be clear that you will not see your money again whether your trip is completed or not. read more

Absolutely awful customer service. Can't remember the name of the blonde girl who works the front desk with glasses but she was rude, unhelpful, and extremely unpleasant. I will never ever come to this place again. To start, we call and ask if there are tubes. We are told that it will be easy to accommodate us and that tubes won't be a problem. We show up and there are no tubes left and they won't let us wait for tubes to be turned back in. Not really sure why but I think the little dumb blonde girl with glasses just had a stick in a place where the sun doesn't shine and didn't want to help. You couldn't pay me enough to ever try to go tubing here again. 11/10 do not recommend. There are still tubes sitting out there that they won't let us rent. Their excuse was that there were no tubes so we brought up the fact that tubes were sitting out front. Then they changed their excuse to the shuttle being backed up. Lack of honesty on top of terrible customer service....we've got a real winner here people!!! read more

The staff was super nice and the rental was easy. I have been to better tubing/rafting spots but this is the closest one to downtown Atlanta. We opted for the 4 man raft primarily to keep out of the water as much as possible. The water is dirty and freezing. A perfect day to spend a hot summer day. You rent a tube, paddle board, canoe or kayak by the hour or they bring you upstream for you to go down. We normally take something with a paddle instead of a tube, we like the exercise. The river is shallow and cool and we are not afraid to leave our kids on their own. I had my mom and sister visiting from out of town and wanted to have a nice relaxing day on the water. My sister, who had lived in Atlanta previously, has floated the river with me on numerous occasions. We both own our own equipment but needed to rent a tub for our mom. We were planning to rent a tube and drive up to Island Ford to have a good 4-5 hour float. As we were placing the tube in my car, I was approached by an older woman (who was driving the shuttle) and was accused of stealing the equipment. Not to mention the fact that my mom had left her driver's license at the front desk, why would we be stealing a $15 dollar tube? She was extremely rude, told us that we were "illegally transporting equipment" and continued to berate us as we walked back to the front desk after assuring her this was an honest mistake. We then were told if we wanted to use the tube we would have to put in at Don White Park. We floated for a whopping 50 minutes and made it back to Azalea Park. We will NEVER be using this company again and will purchase our own equipment next time. Overpriced equipment, rude employees and inconvenient (not to mention we also had to drive back and forth to numerous locations just to find the tube checkout). I wish I would have gotten the older ladies name because she needs to learn how to speak to people. We're paying customers. Bottom line, you shouldn't be rude and condescending. read more

When we got to the next location Cameron, who appreciates tips according to his name tag, told us that we were one minute late and could not rent us a tube. Shoot the Hooch sounded like a fun place to go with our 12 family members for a day of tubing down the river. We arrived in great fun spirits to the property only to be met by a terrible and rude staff "Shannon" .... First impressions very terrible, you were more focused on getting payment than on giving direction and being helpful to our family. Not appreciated. Pricing was outrageous for such a low budget spot. But, we were here and said lets give it a chance, sometimes you are surprised. After our group worked through the details in the office we were sent over to take the 1978 bus ride no a/c, seat belts, with metal objects on floor that could possible cut someone's foot. The reason I share this fact is because most people ride the bus barefoot, because there is no were to put shoes on the tube to go down the river. I am thinking if this is the main way customers are taken up to the tubing launch area, maybe you should have better safety measures and A/C in the bus for the customers. The driver was on the phone, and barely spoke a word just enough to say get on the bus we need to leave because he was in a hurry. When someone asked .. "excuse me can we stand on the bus if theres no room to sit," the driver shut the door and we drove off. Still no response for folks standing. Once we reached the launch location, there seemed to be no straight paved path, it is rocky with pieces of trash that could cut a foot, so please bring sandals that you can clip to the tubs, don't go without some kind of foot protection. You then head to a shed to pick up your tube and launch down the river from a dock that has trash floating next to it and broken boards that hang down the side in the water, that you can again cause damage to yourself or with another person helping you into the tub. The staff members say nothing to you while getting your tubs, they are unfriendly rushing and just come off as jerks. They are not verbal at all about enjoying the river, have a nice ride or even tell you what you will come across down the river. It is amazing how much they DON'T care about you as a person or a customer. The river is beautiful, yet a bit chilly. If you can get passed the chilly party and cruise down the river, just know it is very slow moving almost a coma state... you will have to paddle at times for movement down the river. The family together made the fun happen, but it was through no help of the staff at all. There are no flags or markers a long the river that let you know how far away you are or flags that even mark the landing. I found this to be very unprofessional due to the fact i am a tourist not a local and tourist do not understand your river or final locations to get out without help sometimes. Not everyone reads the web page for the place. So even a little signage at the launch area would be appreciated. When the group was pulling in with tubes and needed assistance a couple workers where close by and did not assist, they just continued with whatever work they were doing and paid no attention to how hard it was for us to get all our family on land with the tubes. The tube collection area was also a delight thank goodness the staff member didn't ask us how the trip was down the river or if we had fun. He barely lifted his head and said drop the stuff and I will get it. It just started to seem like the entire group of folks working were agitated all day and customers where just in the way. My final words on this destination is go at your own risk, be careful and do not expect a friendly atmosphere. Pay your money and move on, don't look for advice or friendliness. Stay out of there way and do not delay your payment or signing documents when you are getting started because you will feel the rudeness of the office staff. God Speed! read more

I enjoyed my time at the Chattahoochee but our day quickly turned sour due to your unprofessional staff. We spent about two hours on the river and got off at the last stop due to a thunderstorm. Upon getting off around 4:40pm, I was denied a shuttle back to where I parked because the manager didn't think it was "worth the trouble" what in the hell does that even mean?! I mean my family was by a fucking body of water while there was a thunderstorm but the staff didnt think it was worth it to care about a minority family. I came with my children to the river and they were waiting the rain for over 30 minutes while I was forced to call a Lyft. I just think it's funny that I was treated this way especially with me being the only African American in the building. No one cared that I needed help and basically acted as if I were not even human, I felt like I was invisible. Kevin was extremely nice and helpful upon our arrival but I can not believe how I was treated by the staff who worked there upon my departure. It seems you all need to take lessons from Kevin because your staff doesn't even know how to treat people like humans. It's fine though, I learned my lesson. I will not recommend any of my other friends or family to come here. If anyone says they are coming here I will warn them of your conservative Cobb County ways. read more
