River Through Atlanta - Chris Scalley

My husband and I wanted to learn where and how to fish on the Chattahoochee River near Atlanta, so we booked a 4-hour "spin fishing" excursion via RiverThroughAtlanta.com. Owner Chris Scalley served as our amazing guide! We arrived at the designated boat ramp 30 minutes early and were pleasantly surprised to find Chris and his boat already there. He showed unbelievable familiarity with river navigation, as well as concern for our safety and comfort. The 4 hours passed quickly, as Chris was so interesting to talk to! He gave great tips on casting, lure selection, reeling, and provided encouraging comments! He was very patient and recovered every lure that my husband and I snagged on unintended targets! As a native of metro-Atlanta, Chris's love and appreciation for the awesome beauty and true natural treasure of the Chattahoochee River is contagious! We saw osprey, king-fishers, turtles, beautiful spider webs glistening in the morning dew, and we appreciated the many photos snapped by Chris which he sent to our phones after our outing ended. We were thrilled to have caught 7 rainbow trout, which we cooked that night; so fresh and delicious! We highly recommend River Through Atlanta for a fun and memorable experience!

Chris was an amazing guide, had a great time on the river and even caught 3 rainbow fish!! Great weather and he was also really educational. Would highly recommend!

Our first time down the hooch and what a treat! Chris was phenomenal! His knowledge of the river, flies and fishing made for an exceptional experience. We caught way more fish than we expected and had a ball doing it! He created a love in fishing for us and we can't wait to go again!

For those of you who have been fishing for a while, or are just beginning, a good guide can come in handy. I finally got the chance to go out with Capt. Kyle Burrell of River Through Atlanta this Tuesday. I'm not exactly a beginner, but I did manage to learn more in about 8 hours of fishing with a very experienced guide than I have over several months of trying on my own. I also was able to explore much more river than I could have safely managed by wading on my own. Chris Scalley, the owner of RTA, has done a lot to educate anglers and nonanglers about the importance of conservation. Kyle, whom I've known for a couple of years, is extremely knowledgable when it comes to trout habitat, river ecosystems, and of course, fly fishing techniques. RTA offers both drift boat and wading trips. Beginners are just as welcome as veterans. They offer schools in addition to trips. Half-days are offered as well. Perfect for travelers in town for business or someone who'd like to see what it's all about before diving into the sport headfirst.

I was assured that the boat would have the accessory table, boat cover and all manuals at delivery. The table and owners manuals were not delivered. The cover delivered with boar was for a completely different and larger craft - it did not fit. I tried for over 8 weeks to get an answer from YH as to when these items could be delivered. After several texts and emails, I finally was called by the original salesman that my cover would be in, in 5 days. I allowed 10 days to pass before reaching out for status. I was then told a new cover would be ordered and the boat would need to be picked up. At pickup, I was told it would be returned in "a couple days".. It has now been 7 days with no communication from YH. I just called and was told "it's next in line"! When I asked when it would now be ready? - I was told "hopefully this weekend. From there, you have to walk around the lake, then through the recreation center to the "almost other side" of the park to get to the playground. You can drive south the the entrance and park along the street or one of the small parking lots much closer to the playground. That said, the space is great! It is large and spread out. There is a covered pavilion and lots of other seating in the form of benches. There are 4 distinct areas, with swings in multiple areas. The slides are high and large and there is a zip line and spinning cage item that is a bog hit with the kids. The ambiance with the tall tress brings this playground home for a 5-star review!
