This is where I started my yoga journey, and it pains me to leave. I used to be a member and returned after 5 years, and things have changed quite a bit. They no longer offer evening (6:30), late evening (8:00) classes, or advanced flow classes. If you work, it is economical to use class pass than to become a monthly member. The instruction is different too. 6 years ago, the teachers used to explain/demonstrate the pose, make corrections, and describe what to work on; I've tried several teachers, and now, they just call out the pose. Some knew I'm (was) a returnee: still, so distant, so aloof every time. Also, the cue, "If it's in your practice, do an inversion", or praising a student on his beautiful jump back. OK. Is anyone interested in helping us make these part of our practice? The studio is still beautiful and spacious. And I am eternally grateful to the wonderful teachers who taught me the fundamentals so well. Time to move on. read more

It's been so long since I've done yoga in person due to Covid but I had such a fabulous experience recently with Krystal and Eppie. Furthermore, the studio is big and spacious so they really make an effort to socially distance (at least more than another studio I went to recently). They also take temperature checks. I like this place .. but they don't even wait for a minute and especially when roads are closed they have to consider to wait for 3-4 min .. they don't have front desk.. only the teachers are available to take class.. they don't lift the calls .. I reached here at 12.03 by driving around 16-20 min to reach because of road closure .. they don't even have sense to consider .. and I also called them before and no one will take the call When they are charging so much money for a class they should afford to put a front desk assistant as well I never saw class being started at dot 12/12.05.. always they give little time and started around 12.08 something.. in that case why they have to close doors at 12.03 pm I hate how they assist people read more

I used to be big into yoga a long time ago and I frequented Gaia Flow but haven't done yoga since 2012. This studio is steps away from my apartment so I decided to give it a shot. Ive had a wonderful experience so far. The studio is nice and big, i'm very fond of the format of the classes, and have found them to be very athletically challenging so you're getting a wonderful stretch and workout. I burn about 250-300 cals each class, and walk away feeling refreshed. Each instructor is very unique in their own way, I have found myself frequenting Chika/Kiki/Krystles classes. They are each very different in their teaching styles and their classes are consistently above par in what I'm looking for each class. Definitely recommend you start out with these ladies :) In terms of feedback its relatively small - I wish the room was set to a bit more of a consistent temperature, and more on the warmer side so you sweat more. Also something I loved at Gaia was the peppermint oil for your neck post class. Was my fave part of yoga and it would be a nice touch. In terms of $$ packages, i wish there was something in between the mini membership vs the unlimited membership. I go about 6-8 times a month so neither of those options work for me so i stick to classpass/out of pocket. Overall, I am satisfied with this studio and plan to continue as long as theres no crazy changes in price and schedule. read more

I go to the Austin Ranch location. My favorite about the studio are the teachers- warm, inviting, helpful, and inspirational. By the way, plan to arrive 10 min early if you can or no later than five min. Teachers lock the door pretty much right when class starts so if you miss it by a minute or two you may not get in. I actually don't mind that aspect as you don't ever have to worry about late comers/interruptions when class starts. I have been practicing at this location for over 5 years and it's my favorite place to be other than home. read more

I've only been to Uptown Yoga for a little less than a month, but I've taken at least 5 classes a week between this location and the uptown location. I definitely like this location better for the layout of the room, and MUCH better parking situation (there's a garage on the back in case you didn't know). Classes usually start 2-5 min late, but also ends a little bit late. Be sure to arrive on time, as instructors will lock the door afterwards. A lot of people who come here seem to be regulars. Instructors are very welcoming. Instructors also check in their students, so if they haven't seen you before they will ask you if you are new and will show you around (not all the time, but most of the time). I appreciate that the room isn't overly heated to the point I'm gonna either pass out or throw up. There aren't many mirrors in the room, so if you want to check your posture then you'll have to come in a bit earlier to get a spot in front of the mirrors. Students come at different levels, so there's no need to be intimidated. I like how most of the instructors demo each poses, which is very helpful for a beginner. The cues are also very helpful, and each time I can take away something new about the basic poses. Some will say the sankrit name, while some say both or the English name, so after 2 weeks I started to pick up the names. My personal favorites at this location include Joseph (has way more experience in teaching, challenges you with correct form as he WILL correct you), Krystle (she's welcoming and flows are always consistent and suitable for all levels), Lisa (good flow and her voice was so soothing!) and Alicia (she's not a regular yet but I like how her flow is more powerful and 'harder'). Instructors I like at the other 2 locations: Alexandra (everyone loves her do I need to say more), Tara (only took a workshop with her but she's both funny and helpful) and Naomi (smooth flow) read more

I just realized that I am the Queen of check-ins for Uptown The Colony! From my numerous check-ins, you can probably tell that I come quite often. And not because they have cookies. Although if they did, I'm sure the number would shoot up tremendously. Small and a great place for yoga, I recommend coming if you're just starting out. There is a $10 for 10 day deal that you can get which I did. It's a great way to explore the different classes and meet the teachers. Everyone has a unique teaching style and way of practicing. The beginner's class is really great. One hour - you'll feel different. I've developed a lot of strength and balance. I've also felt a lot more calm. I see tons of beginners and advanced students take it because the teachers are very thorough with the poses. A few often explain the Sanskrit words for breathing that mimics the waves of the ocean. They even talk a bit about the word "Namaste". It may not seem like anything after the first few classes. But it's a great feeling knowing when you go into the chair pose that your thighs aren't burning after a few seconds and you can actually hold the pose for a lot longer. They have mats and blocks to use or you can purchase them there. I think the price is super inflated inside their little store area so I recommend purchasing yoga gear somewhere else like Amazon. Come dressed comfortably. Lots of guys come in basketball shorts and a t-shirt. Mostly girls come in fitted capri workout pants and tank tops. They have a wall where you can leave your belongings too. While you're in class, the instructor locks the front door before each session so that your personal items are secure. That means - be on time - classes almost often start right on time so come in a few minutes early if you're brand new. read more

I'm pleasantly surprised by this place. I've frequented many yoga studios over the years and am very picky on where I practice. I prefer vinyasa flow and the more traditional yoga movements, and Uptown Yoga delivers. I've only been to Krystle's classes, mainly because she is very good in her delivery of the movements and her encouragement but also ensuring those of us that we can take it at our own pace by taking breaks as needed. The studio is small with one room but still has a welcoming feel. You only need to bring yourself as they do provide yoga mats if you don't have one. As most studios, you can't wear shoes in the room, and there are cubbies to place them in. There are towels in the room for your use if you get sweaty or need to clean your mat. I haven't been to a class that has been too crowded yet, thankfully. The downside for me is that they keep the room too hot. I'm accustomed to traditional yoga practice being held in a comfortable temperature, including vinyasa flows. I feel that the higher temps should be left to those studios catering to "hot yoga" where their intention is to make you sweat. I have a difficult time controlling my breath when it's hot, so that's a big disappointment. Also, classes starting at 5:30 instead of 6:00 pm are difficult for me to make so I have to wait for later classes. Overall, great studio and I plan to keep going. read more

Great yoga studio with overall pretty solid teachers. I have found a few teachers I really like and try to stick to their classes. They offer a decent amount of class times where I can usually fit in a class before or after work. I just wish they had a few more times on the weekends. It's a bit pricey, so I'm not sure how long I'll be able to keep a membership. But if you're looking for a good, no fuss yoga studio rather than hot yoga, etc., this is a solid option. read more

This place is awesome! Not perfect (nothing is), but just about perfect for me. I used to believe most yoga places were very similar. Therefore, I would only go to a place if I could find a great offer or a Groupon. And like most people, I never took advantage of all the sessions I bought. Not this place! I started with a Groupon, and I attended to 9/10 allowable sessions. Huge record for me. After that, I bought a 20 class pack right away and I LOVE going to yoga here. Not only do I feel that my body gets a good workout, but so does my soul! At first I thought it was just a couple of the instructors, but as I got exposed to more, I saw this was a Uptown Yoga culture thing. I've been going to Uptown yoga 3-4 times a week for the past two months that it has been open and have had a pretty different experience than the previous reviewer. The instructors are fantastic, and offer modifications for all levels. I am generally one of the more practiced in the class and I have still learned a lot there, including new poses/variations I had never done before. Also, I spoke to one of the instructors about an advanced class, and they said they're gauging interest and that it will be coming soon. If you want something from a studio, ask! I've also noticed that they generally have a fairly intimate class size and I don't think you'd have to race to get a spot anywhere in the room, you've generally got your pick. I've been to plenty of studios without mirrors, Allen Yoga Center, Black Swan yoga in Austin, and Park Cities yoga all come to mind. I believe the idea is that you're focusing internally, not checking yourself or others out. The instructors cue alignment verbally and walk around and help with adjustments if necessary. The classes there are done in an 85 degree room, I've never been there when the heater wasn't working. I'm usually dripping with sweat at the end. I've also never noticed outside noise, especially during savasana. There is always yoga-appropriate music playing, and I've really enjoyed their playlists. I've been to plenty of studios and I'm glad that Uptown is the closest to me. read more

I really enjoy this yoga studio. They have a great selection of class times to accommodate someone who works during they day. The teachers are all quite nice and talented at what they do. Classes range from very relaxing to super tough. Be aware that if you are used to practicing in front of a mirror, you will want to arrive early to class, so you can grab a position in front of some of the hanging mirrors in the room. read more

I have tried to contact someone at Uptown yoga multiple times but had zero success. To me this is vey poor customer service. I have sent 3 emails, called, and even stopped by at a time the Austin Ranch location is supposedly open (but the door had a closed sign up), and had zero success. Tried new yogi special 10 days for 10 dollars. Had a great experience! Studio is nice super clean spaciouse and decorated in modern style. The instructors are amazing! A little unusual mirrors placement. I personally like to practice my yoga in front of mirrow. But there are still a lot of debates about mirrors in yoga studios at all. The studio was piecefull and quiet that pleasantly surprised me because it locates in pretty busy place and I took my class there at 5:30pm! Gave 5 stars with a confidence! Positives: 1. Clean and large studio 2. Instructor locks the front door when the class starts - so no annoying late comers and your belongings are safe 3. High quality mats 4. Location Negatives: 1. Temperature - They keep the studio at 85 degrees. Why not offer some classes at cooler temperatures, say 75? I understand you want your students to sweat, but how about students that already sweat without additional heat or those who don't feel good in temperatures that high? 2. Noise - related to above, when the heater runs, it's REALLY LOUD. Hello? I'm trying to relax. 3. Mirrors - they have 4 or 5 Ikea mirrors and if you don't come early and get a spot in front of one, you're out of luck. I want to correct my poses and can't do that without a mirror. 4. Selection of classes is very limited - out of a total of 34 classes they offer weekly, 22 (!) are All Level Flow (23 if you add Advanced Flow). That's 68% of their schedule and sometimes as many as 5 classes a day. I got tired and bored of doing a flow class every day. Why not offer Kundalini and other interesting forms of yoga? read more

I had always been curious about yoga but never had the balls to check a studio out. I stumbled upon Esther H's review of Uptown Yoga and asked her some questions about it. She graciously offered to attend a beginner's class with me so we arranged our schedules to be able to meet up. The first class I had for a beginner's class was with Alicia. She was incredibly sweet and she had a very calm demeanor about her that made you instantaneously feel calm as well. The class was very easy to partake in and it was incredibly relaxing. The beginner class seemed like it served as physical and psychological preparation for beginners who haven't ever experienced yoga before. I felt a bit out of touch with everything going on at times though just because I wasn't familiar with any of the poses at all. I struggled to keep up at times because I was too busy trying to remember what to do with some of my body parts. However, Esther H. reassured me that after I started to remember the poses, that it'd be a lot easier for me. The second class I attended was a vinyasa flow class with Alexandra. This class is supposed to be for folks of all levels. I saw fellow noobs like me struggle with some of the more difficult poses that required a lot of flexibility. I also saw some folks breeze through even the hardest contortions. However, Alex made sure to pay attention to everyone in the class. I was pleasantly surprised by how, despite being in room filled with people who had a myriad of experience, I didn't feel like I was the only one struggling. However, vinyasa flow kicked my ass. I expected this class to be similar to the soothing and slower-paced beginner's class but I was completely wrong. This was definitely a class with a bit more energy and I was sweating like a dog the entire time. My core still hurts from some of the core exercises Alex snuck into the class. I had two very different experiences thus far at Uptown Yoga but I've really enjoyed the classes thus far. I plan on going to another beginner class tomorrow before my $10 for 10 days pass is up. I'm not completely sure if I can cough up the cash to be a more frequent visitor but I have a few more classes to indulge in before I need to make a decision. read more

I practised at the Austin Ranch studio few months ago. The studio is ok, with only few mirrors in the classroom. Yoga mat, belt, blankets, and blocks are provided free if needed. Limited parking space at the front. Door will be locked during class for security. The only concerns for me are the teachers's instructions and classes options. I personally prefer slow flow/ deep stretch/ yin classes with details instructions on allignment. Most of the open flows classes are relatively fast without details instructions. So, I would not recommend it for beginners. During class, there is not much personal attention on adjusting wrong allignment, in which will cause injury easily. My only favorite all level flow classes are guided by Lisa Coyle. Her classes are neither fast nor slow, just right pace of flowing movements with details instructions. Unfortunately, she has only 2 classes per week. Another drawback is the monthly fees which are relatively high here. read more

This place is incredible. I tried several yoga studios around the metroplex (groupon, free introduction class, etc) before deciding to join this one. The staff is always warm and welcoming. They definitely make a new comer feel at home. Other studios sometimes give off an unapproachable or superior vibe but not this place. My favorite teachers are Emilee (in the morning) and Krystle (in the evening). Both of these instructors lead clear, easy to follow classes.The all level flow classes are perfect- simple enough for a novice to participate but also challenging enough for more practiced yogis. A few times during class the instructor will offer different versions of the same pose, depending on skill level or what particular muscle you would like to focus on. They have mats, blocks, straps, bands. and blankets available to borrow for class as well as mat-cleaning spray. Sometimes they have fun studio-wide contests- such as attending 60 classes in 60 days! The teachers care enough to learn your name and answer any questions after class. The lobby, bathrooms and studio are always sparkling clean. If you're still undecided I suggest purchasing a groupon or doing an introduction package to see what you think! read more

I went today to the All Level (Vinyasa Flow) class and the instructor was Lisa Coyle. I absolutely loved it. The place is beautiful. Lisa was very attentive and gentle. We did beautiful poses which focused on developing strength and balancing the body. The real treat is at the end of class in which the instructor provides a gentle massage to each person. I would recommend this place. Also use Groupon if you are a newbie to save some money. I bought the 30 days unlimited yoga for $33. So check groupon first to see if a deal is available.
