My first visit to The Mat Yoga combined with my first yoga experience equaled 90-minutes of acceptance, encouragement and welcoming. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday afternoon in July! I left feeling pretty darn good. My core still engages and my shoulders rotate without sounding like Jiffy Pop (IYKYK)! I'll be joining this fine group at least a couple of times a week. read more

This is a very nice studio. Its just down the street from my house so I figured I'd give it a try. I was able to fill out all the forms and pay online which made sign up painless. When I went in for a class I basically had to find my own way around. I introduced myself to the woman at the front, told her I was new and asked if there was anything particular I needed to know. She said no the studio rooms are that way, and pointed me towards a hallway. I had to wander around to find the studio, bathrooms, etc. It would have been nice if I had been given a walk through to know where things are and feel more comfortable with the studio. (Especially since I was 20 minutes early to class and there was time to show me around) Now that I've been there twice I'm starting to get more comfortable with the place. I have taken the Open Flow classes which I love. They arent incredibly difficult but they arent easy. There is a lot of stretching, balance and body weight work. I dont come out of this class feeling exhausted but I do come out feeling stretched and more relaxed. The instructors that teach it are wonderful. So very nice. There is one instructor that I noticed cusses a lot. It was a bit distracting and rude. I'm going to make sure I avoid her classes. I dont exactly find repeated cussing or yelling to be relaxing. Unlimited yoga for one year is $1,000. That's a great deal compared to other places around. I do love that the studio is always kept warm (not hot) so it makes it easier for your muscles to loosen up to stretch. Overall a great place to go for yoga. I would definitely recommend giving this place a try. read more

One of my favorite studios in the area. They've got a great selection of classes offered daily & fantastic instructors. Location is easy to access, but sometimes parking is rough. They offer multiple ways to pay, EFT draft, 10 packs, unlimited, ect - which works for me. (I actually found them using groupon & decided to continue, so if you can snag a groupon - do it!). The only downfall is that the studio doesn't open till 15 min before your class - so you can't really go out & hang, get prepared or relax before your classes - but that's not a huge deal to me personally. The biggest plus is that everyone (including employees) are super friendly. They are chatty and everyone starts to get to know each other, so it becomes a lot more intimate than other studios. I'd recommend trying the mat for yogis of any level if you're in the west plano, richardson, north dallas areas. read more

When I moved to Dallas over 2 years ago I tried to find a yoga studio that met my needs. I searched and searched until one day I walked into The Mat and was immediately relieved to have finally found a studio that aligned with my practice. There are a variety of classes so that anyone can find something that works with their level of practice. Most importantly the instructors are kind, friendly and so helpful! This is a studio where you will feel most welcomed! The owner Samantha does a fantastic job at running the studio. I had the same yoga teacher for 12 years before moving to Dallas. I am. very thankful for The Mat!! There is a wide variety of classes and times. The studio is clean and they have gone out the way during the Coronavirus shut downs to make sure that they quickly converted to keep the studio online. Update: She promptly emailed me and responded to the review I posted in a friendly and helpful manner. They should definitely fix whatever gap in communication there is between online scheduling and the brick-and-mortar before it happens to someone else, but she certainly corrected the perception of apathy I gathered earlier (and turned a negative experience into a positive one). The way a business handles a mistake or unhappy customer is typically indicative of their quality, and worth the 1-to-3-star change. I will go back to try the sauna, and hopefully add the last two. -------- My first, and so far only, experience with this company was such that I felt compelled to potentially save others from my pitfall. I am very intrigued by their infrared sauna, and would love to be in said sauna right now. I scheduled online through a thorough process on a seemingly up-to-date website. This morning I got 2 texts confirming the appointment, one requiring my reply. When I make the 20-minute trek to their location, a long enough trip to make the following irritating, the door is locked. I figure, yoga studio, they probably lock the doors for every class, I'll just call. The woman on the other end of the phone call was by no means rude or anything, though not outstandingly nice either. She just sounded like, one, this had happened before, and two, she was unempathetic about the whole situation. She offered to turn around at one point, which she absolutely should have insisted on in my opinion, but I could hear it in her voice that she really didn't want to at all. And I felt an awkward sauna visit would be in order if I made her turn around. She jumped at my defeated, "Well I guess I'll reschedule." It took her way too long to get around to apologizing. I think it's quite the double standard that; should I pay for the service and not meet my agreement to be present at the appropriate time, then I am fined for the time allotted to ensure it isn't a waste for the business, but; should I pay for the service and the business does not meet its agreement to be present at the appropriate time, then my time and resources are treated as unimportant and inconsequential. I'm not sure if I'll reschedule or not. read more

I was newish to yoga, when a friend convinced me to attend one of the free Karma Yoga Happy Hours back in October, and I was hooked! I now go regularly. The studio is beautiful, relaxing, and calming. I have now been to almost every class offered, and been taught by 90% of the instructors, and I can honestly say I haven't disliked a single one. Every teacher is friendly, knowledgable, and open to questions. There are a variety of classes offered for every skill/interest level. Additionally, the students range in skill level in each class, so you will never feel like you are sticking out whether you are a beginner or advanced. All the teachers are great about queuing the modified versions of the pose, and the more advance versions. It's a great yoga community! read more

Great yoga studio that has a strong and loyal following. They have wonderful instructors and a diverse schedule. The only reason I don't give them five stars is that if you're totally new to yoga, they don't necessarily take you around to show you the ropes unless you ask and there is time to do so. I had to figure things out on my own but it didn't take long once you follow everyone else's lead. If you're considering yoga, do it! It's the best thing for your body. Everyone should be practicing. My only regret is that I didn't join the MAT sooner. read more

Attended a class at this studio for the first time this week. I'm not new to yoga but definitely not advanced so I decided on the Gentle Flow class. I enjoyed the class but did not feel welcome to the studio. I would recommend this studio if you can go with a friend who can show you around and fill you in on some of the nuances of the studio. Great entrance. I feel the atmosphere when I walked in set the bar high. When I actually took the class, the wood floors hurt my knees and I didn't feel challenged in the workout. It reminded me of feel good yoga. I wish resting pose was darker and a few more minutes. I had to put a towel over my face to block the lights out. read more

I loved the vibe at this yoga studio! Sam creates such a nice environment and really gets to know her students and encourages everyone regardless of their yoga level. The studio itself is very spacious and has a nice ambiance. My sister and I did the "Balls and Bliss" class which really helped work out some trigger points I had after a previous workout. The "Bliss"component is a guided meditation, which Sam led. The guided mediation was the perfect length of time with the right amount of dialogue to help clear the mind and had us leave the studio feeling energized and relaxed. I would definitely recommend this place and will be returning in subsequent visits to Texas! read more

I went to my first yoga class at the Mat almost 4 years ago, and it has truly become my second home. I always leave feeling better than when I arrived. The studio creates a place that anyone will feel welcome practicing, from novice to a seasoned practitioner. The teachers are all amazing and add something different to the practice.
