As you can see there is no info about the door being locked if you arrive after 530
    Sarah H.

A friend invited me to a new moon sound bath. The set start time was 530. I arrived 10 minutes late. I'm not super familiar with the neighborhood and my first bus was cancelled. When I arrived both doors were locked. I knocked on the door multiple times, because I paid for this class hours in advance. There was no answer. Nowhere in the class description was it stated that an early arrival time was required to attend the class. So I was pretty upset. I've never had this experience with a yoga studio. Update: I reached out and was provided a one time refund. Apparently information about class start times is listed on Uptown's website. I looked around the website and didn't see this info. I don't want to complain on this studio too hard (esp since I haven't experienced a class) but it seems like a real inconvenience for first timers and newbies.

Thankfully, ClassPass has made this so much easier to switch it UP! As a part time fitness instructor with a very strong routine, I constantly find myself craving variety. This place has been on my hit list for a while and I was so happy to be able to finally go last night! And boy, am I glad I did. I tried the hot vinyasa class with Lesa and it was 60 minutes of hot and sweaty bliss. The room was packed and the VYBE was jumping! I was warmly greeted and even though I arrived a few minutes before class Lesa greeted me happily and showed me the ropes. They have towels and water/beverages for purchase. BYO yoga mat but they have those as well. The salt lamps in the studio were a beautiful touch and so were the essential oils. I parked my mat pretty close to the diffuser so I was LOVING the aromatherapy while I got my yoga on. Lesa's class was a booty kicker but she also broke it down and provided modifiers for those of us who aren't so limber but aspire to be (raises hand). Blame my tight endurance athlete hamstrings. At the end of the 60 minutes they provide you with essential oil infused cold towels. The Lakeside area is the perfect location, surrounded by luxury living as well as an abundance of retail shops. The community seems very tight knit here as well. Thankful I was able to come here and cannot wait to use my ClassPass to return for another hot class soon and very soon!!

My favorite class is Still Water (yin yoga) which is focused on holding single poses for a longer duration. I also like the other two beginner classes, Gentle Waves and Dessert, although I honestly can't discern between the two. Classes typically start with a warm up of some kind (core work in the normal classes) followed by a short 5 minute group discussion. I'll admit the first time I can to Gaia this part was WEIRD. But it has grown on me, I like hearing the "good news" from other people in the class - it gives a sense of community. They also do a short spiritual on the yamas & niyamas. It's nothing weird, I often do find that the instructors give me something new to consider. That's followed by another 40mins or so of practice. During the final minutes of practice, the instructor massages your shoulders and neck with an energizing lotion. I'll admit that I find it a little gross, but I still enjoy it. I mostly feel bad for the instructors. Other things I like: early morning practices, yoga mats and blocks available, room is kept warm (not hot!), and easy parking. My only gripe is that practices don't always end on time. Combine that with having to arrive early (late yogis have to shamefully tap on the glass to get the instructor to let them in!), a one hour yoga class can quickly turn into a 2 hour affair. I've been loving my at-home practice but when I need something more I'll still be coming here and nowhere else.

    Blue Feather - Aerial Yoga

I recently came to Blue Feather for an Aerial Yoga + Play class with a few friends. The studio is…read morelocated in the Design District inside Soar Creative Studios, and you can easily book directly on their website. Aerial yoga has been everywhere lately, so I was glad to finally experience it here. The class size was small (~12 spots), which I think is perfect--any larger, and it would've been hard to see the instructor or fully engage in the movements. About 75% of the class was guided yoga using the aerial fabric almost like a sling for support (lots of Warrior II, chair pose, backbends, etc.), with the last 15-20 minutes reserved for "tricks." The time split was a little surprising, but I understand the need to warm up before advancing into more complex movements. Our instructor, Deidra, was confident and knowledgeable, offering options for both new and advanced students where it made sense. That said, I had mixed feelings about the structure. The class was advertised as beginner-friendly, but was filled with her students from moderate / advanced classes, seemingly working toward credit/practice hours. This meant Deidra often modeled progressions for them, focusing her attention at the front of the class rather than circulating to guide newer students in real time. Thankfully, a few more experienced participants helped by modeling positions, which was a big plus. My only other nick was the playlist--which bounced between Mumford & Sons to Gracie Abrams, with the occasional mainstream tracks, which just wasn't my vibe. Overall though, I loved the class and really appreciated Deidra's skill and passion. While not exactly "beginner," it was a fun and challenging introduction to aerial yoga, and I'd definitely return.

I can not remember where I first saw this place online, but I am glad I did. I have seen aerial…read moreworkout places before, but never one in Dallas. Their website is very user friendly. It will show you all the different types of classes, as well as prices, and you can book the classes online. I booked the "beginner" class last week - the aerial technique. I arrived about 10 minutes early and was shown where to grab and a yoga mat and was able to pick the "hammock" (I do not know the technical name for the ropes) I wanted to work with during class. The instructor was really nice and she walked us through each exercise. It was a lot of stretching - not really much off the mat, which was fine; I wasn't intending to be up in the air on my first time. Near the end we did get to flip upside down and hang for a little bit. I didn't find that comfortable so I didn't stay upside down for long. A lot of the other class memebers seemed to enjoy it, so maybe with time and practice I will like it one day as well. At the very end of class we got to get up in the hammock and lay down in it. The instructor turned off the lights so we just had the music to listen to and relax. It felt like we were hanging there a good ten minutes. Very relaxing. The studio is off Seventh Street in the Oak Cliff area. There is construction across the street, but I was able to find parking on Davis in a parking garage. When you walk into the studio there is a shop in the front with all kinds of trinkets, stones, incense, clothes. Cute stuff! I bought the package for 3 classes for $45 so my next class will be the aerial yoga. I'm very much looking forward to it!
