I gave 3 stars because the nails were done very well...but Mae is very rude and defiantly talks crap about the customers in her language. Their customer service sucks! An old lady came in and wanted to get her toes done. They didn't help her with anything! My heart broke. He had to ask for help when it was obvious that she needed it! I thought it was time to write an update since I have stopped coming here since May. Of all the nail shops in the area, this really should not be the one you go to. As you can see from my previous review, check-ins, and the pictures I have posted of my nails, I had been going here for a REALLY long time. I used to come at least 3 times a month when I was working in Tujunga and still managed to make the trip here from Chatsworth once a month when I started grad school. Mae is the only reason I continued coming here despite the bad customer service I consistently received from the owner. She made all of these upgrades to the salon but that did not do much for me considering the fact that I had been a committed customer for years. I only requested Mae for my mani/pedi and they always gave me a hard time about it. If I am paying for a service and tipping my nail tech $10 then I should be able to request whoever I want. Long story short, I stopped by here in May for a manicure and noticed that I had enough stamps on my loyalty card to get a free mani. The previous owner offered a loyalty program where you would receive a free manicure after 10 mani/pedi visits and I had accrued well over 5 to 6 of these over the years. I was never told the rules had changed or they no longer accepted this card because this new owner continued to stamp my card even after she took ownership. Without thinking twice about it, I grabbed the loyalty card and my tip money and walked in for the manicure. I had a feeling they were going to give me an issue with this so I immediately told Mae about the free manicure as she started working on my nails. Apparently when Mae told the owner in Vietnamese, the owner replied to her saying that I would need to get a pedicure in order to receive my free manicure. I had gotten a manicure/pedicure the week before and I did not see the need for another pedicure. As Mae was being the middle man when the owner could have just gotten off her phone and came to talk to me, I told Mae to remind this woman that I had been a customer for years and made frequent visits to their nail salons. Not once have I complained about waiting or getting cut or anything and I have waited for over 30 minutes on numerous occasions. When Mae said that the owner was not going to honor the manicure, I told her to stop doing my nails, grabbed my things and threw the loyalty card at the owners station. I informed her that I would never step foot in this salon again and would tell all of the ladies in our office to stop going there. Four months later and that is exactly what has happened. A $12 manicure was not worth her losing a committed client and an office full of ladies who get their nails done regularly. There is an abundance of nail salons in the Tujunga/La Crescenta area, this woman does not deserve your hard earned money. read more

Before I start telling you why I give this spa a 5 star-rating, don't you even dare to question me "aren't you a man? you do manicures and facials?" No, I don't do that sort of stuff, and hopefully I will never have to. (Nothing against it though.. lol) Let's just say that I am Asian, and I live by the principle of filial piety. In case you don't understand what "filial piety" means, it essentially means that I am a darn good son to my mama. Yes, my mama is hardworking woman who raised me up and financed me through college. To thank my mama, I have been looking for a good facial spa for some time. "Good facial spa" in my dictionary means "providing excellent service while being economical and qualitative". So, there I was, cruising down Foothill Blvd after my grocery shopping at Ralph's... I saw this huge sign---- 20% off. So I stopped by and asked for the price and all that.. It turned out that the store has recently changed its owner. This very welcoming and amiable lady, Ivy, told me that if I bring my mama in for her bday, she would give me an extra 10% off. The original price is about $50. 30% off means a saving of $15! So I thought ... that's a darn good deal! So, I brought mom to the spa last Saturday and surprised her with a gift of facial spa. One hour and fifteen minutes for $35 (after the 20% and the extra 10% discount ....) My mom looked really satisfied and relaxed. So I tipped Ivy $20 on top of paying the $35... Word of advice, bring your mamas to the spa! It's the best present you can give to your mom! or your wife ;) read more

If I can give them NO stars I would. I'm sorry to say that I went there after seeing all the good reviews. After my experience here I am left wondering are the previous reviewers somehow related to the owners? As soon as I walked in I noticed it was completely empty on a Friday afternoon. I wanted to get tips and waxed. I wanted some peace but the two workers were yapping off in some other language very loudly. When she started putting my tips she made my pink and white ratio look 5:5. It was so ugly and my nails looked like a little kid trying to put giant white tips. I made her stop and told her to make my pink part longer and she said I had a small nail bed and it was impossible. And yet when I walked out and went across the street to la belle spa, they were able to make it look good and told me that I had a BIG nail bed! Stupidly I let them at least wax me hoping it'll be fine. Let me start off by saying I've been getting waxed for the past 5 years. I HAVE NEVER BLED WHILE GETTING WAXED UNTIL THIS PLACE. She waxed the same spot like 3 times and I could see all these little red spots of blood welling up. I was so shocked I asked her if she was licensed! Then she proceeded to yell at me and that's when I left. All I have to say is that I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE FOR NAILS OR WAXING. Save your self some time and pain. read more

Finally, I've found a manicurist to frequent! I live nearby, in Sunland, and ever since moving here I've been looking for a decent mani/pedi. Most of the nail salons in the local area seem scruffy, noisy, and the employees just shuffle you in and out as quickly as possible, not seeming to care about the quality of the job they do. When I walked into The Uptown Spa, it was clean and neat, with a relaxing atmosphere. The owner was friendly and helpful, and gave me a mani/pedi that was superior to any I've had in the past year. She was incredibly thorough and my nails look fantastic. She cares about her clients, and makes them feel valued. If you are looking for a nail salon, this is the best place around. read more

I got a acrylic fill at this place because the person I go to usually was booked. I made an appointment for my sister and I and we went. Right when we walked in I noticed a couple of angry customers. They were complaining how they had been waiting for 45 minutes when they made sure they book a time prior into coming in. I was nervous they were going to make us wait that long as well but Eric, the manager of the salon, told me he will take me right in and get started. But my sister had to wait an extra 30 minutes. Totally not okay but we had no choice. One thing I did not like is how loud the workers are talking to one another at all times. I mean borderline screaming in their own language. I think it's just rude since none of us knew what they were talking about and it give the allusion that they're talking about us. But I got over it. Another big red flag was the dust. Dust everywhere. Even in the floor and Eric was about the slip one time. Dust in the little fans that dry nails. It was bad. But Eric did a great job doing my nails so I couldn't complain. I'm not sure how I feel about going here regularly but it's a good place to have as back up. read more

I went last week on a whim to get my nails done. They seemed rather unorganized as there were only 3 people working and more people started to trickle in to work. After I'd been there about 20 minutes I'd already had 3 different people work on my nails. Did it bother me? No. It's a nail salon-- pick out your color, tell them what you want, and they did a good job. Everything was clean here. The women were all polite. However---I was MORTIFIED by the clientele there. Excuse me for not being from small conservative town nobody cares about but this was the 3rd time I'd been at a nail salon in this area where some women getting her nails there felt the need to tell staff to "Speak English." So I actually live in San Diego, but when I was in town this past weekend visiting a friend, we went to get our nails done. My friend has been here a few times now, and really liked it. She had it right, this place was great. The owner was the one who did our toes (which look great). She was very nice, talked to us the whole time, and made our time there very relaxing and pleasant. The place was VERY clean, which is a huge plus. She didn't skimp on anything, and really made me want to come back. If only she lived a few hours closer :) The place was not noisy nor did you feel like they were rushing you in and out. If you want a great pedicure or manicure, check them out!! Jason & the girls did a great job, I treated my mom here as well. They were very careful and made sure everything looked pristine, neat, and beautiful. Great quality for the price. Price outside the door says 15$ for gel mon-wed, (which took me by surprise) but when i paid front desk asked for 25, and later explained the 15 is only to swap colors, not cuticle cutting and actual gel manicure.. so that was super misleading and kind of rude of them to put that sign up. I've been here a few times but kept waiting off on writing a yelp review so I decided to do it today! I really like this place a lot. I've only gotten gel manicure and pedicure from them and it has lasted me for quite a long time. I work at a place where I do dishes a lot and come in contact with bleach quite often. I haven't had a problem with my gel manicure for a week and half as of right now. It's still in perfect condition. As for my pedicure, wow, it lasts for over a month! The final price was quite a bit higher than I usually pay at similar nail salons, and more than I expected considering the specials advertised on the front of the store. I really liked this place. I went in for a mani/pedi, the girl who did my nails filed them so well I decided to do gel polish. My toes look better than they have in a long time with a pretty design, polished all the way to the cuticle. My gel polish application is great, they have super fast LED lamps that take much less time to cure the polish. Why 4 stars and not 5? The massage chair didn't work. They switched controls but we still couldn't get it to turn on. The manicure/pedicure massage was very short, though the warm lotion was nice. The person who did my nails was very friendly but the person who did my toes seemed irritated and seemed to get angry that I wouldn't pay for additional massage. Then there was a descrepency in price- they list mani/pedi for $24 and gel polish for $15 Mon-Wed. I got a gel manicure, reg pedicure. I assumed I would pay the price of a pedicure $17, plus the $15 for gel polish, but they charged for a mani/ped $24 plus the gel polish price $15 and then $5 for a design. I guess the $15 gel polish price doesn't include the manicure? Felt like false advertising. There was also a lot of discussion between employees before my price was decided, I imagine they were discussing this issue. read more

Oh how I miss Ivy. I found this place about 2 years ago on Yelp. I was looking for a nail place to do my wedding nails that wouldn't make me drive into LA and break the bank. This place is clean and friendly and most of the nail techs are pretty good. But Ivy was my nail tech goddess. She hooked me UP with gel nails (not a manicure, like acrylic nails but with a gel overlay). She made my nails look so natural and was so meticulous about the details. Each appointment leading up to my wedding nails was better than the last. I brought in nail art pictures I found on Pinterest and Ivy executed each request flawlessly. And then I moved to Oklahoma after my wedding. The nail scene out here is a little... Behind in the times. So Ivy, if you read this, thank you for stepping up my nail game those few short months in 2014! Went here for the first time about 2 weeks ago. I follow them on Instagram and loved their nail designs so I decided to check it out (especially since they're right up the street from where I live). Called about 5 minutes before I arrived asked if they could do a gel mani for me and they said they surely can. Got there and was greeted and seated very quickly. Love it! The man that greeted me also offered if I would like something to drink but I kindly declined since I had my own drink. I chose a gel nail design that I saw on their Instagram and it was $7 dollars for each design on my ring fingers. Didn't take long for my manicurist to finish although she thought she took awhile haha. The total gel manicure plus 2 designs cost me $32. Not bad at all. I want to leave a good review, but my pedicure was very messy. I specifically wanted gel manicure and asked the technician to do it thin. I could tell it's going to peel in about a week or two at the most. I don't consider myself to be a picky customer, but I do know what I like versus what I don't like, and I don't like thick gel nails. I've learned that this is the reason why gel curls up and peals so quick. Generally speaking, I felt totally rushed. One of the biggest struggles for a girl is finding a good nail salon and sticking to it - I have had no problem with that ever since visiting Uptown Spa. I was referred by a friend and I'm so happy I went there for my appointment. The salon itself is small and clean - it's a really cozy environment. It's never too crowded and your visit is never cheated. They also have a large variety of nail polishes, and designs. My acryllics are always perfect and last for a few weeks, without chipping, breaking or becoming dull. Even if I do manage to break my nail or smudge the polish (even after just walking out), the staff has no problem helping me and fixing the problem. I always go to Ivy for my nails and she does an exceptional job; she listens to what you would like done and is always making sure you are happy with your results. I came here once after the management change. I got a mani pedi and the technician cut my toe. When the bleeding finally stopped another person took over, claimed that she did a great job with the nails and assured me that she applied a quick dry product which, you guessed it, was not the case and shortly after I left I ruined several finger nails. Although this place takes credit cards, it seems their phones were not working the day I went and they weren't able to take cards as payment, they waited until they finished the service and I was ready to pay in order to tell me that I had to walk to the b of a in pedicure sandals for cash. Really? You didn't think to mention it when I arrived? I've been coming here since 2013 and was a happy customer. Won't be coming here anymore. Just went to get my eyebrows waxed and they came out horrible. One eyebrow is noticeably shorter than the other/arched and the other is curved. Also the lady that waxed my brows was about to wax them in one of the pedicure chairs in front of all the customers. Which made me feel very uncomfortable. I came here to get my nails done before my Asia trip and I am absolutely satisfied with the work The service is really on point and beyond excellent! Erik is very patient with me (as you can tell, I have different color on all of my fingers lol), and Hailey did an excellent job on my gel pedi. I love this new dipping gel thing, it is much lighter than acrylic and the colors came out really pretty and natural. I also got my hair removal (almost full body) done by Sang and Dora, who are very professional and superb! I have sensitive skin which usually gets red after waxing, but somehow Dora magically made them go away really fast. I was able to get out of the salon with minimal red spot on me. Despite the remodel and the newish chairs, this place has the most disgusting management ever! They are super rude and even the owners cell phone is louder than the tv. Let me start by saying I am an extremely picky person about everything due to the fact I have OCD. I recently started doing acrylic nails again at a different salon.... Unfortunately it was a bad experience as my nails were lifting within hours after going there for my full set and my fills each time.... Until they finally ripped off one day. Painful! Anyways I had kind of given up on acrylics after that and was planning to just leave my nails how they were (short and ugly since I'm a personal trainer and lift weights every single day) For some reason today I decided I would give acrylics another try (probably looking down at my nails which looked pretty ugly) at a different salon this time. I went to yelp and found Uptown Spa. I read through all of the reviews and decided to give it a try. I specifically asked for Mae when I made my appointment because I say a few people write reviews saying their acrylics never ever lifted. I came in today and it turned out there was still some acrylic left on my nails from the crappy ones that had ripped off. Mae very gently removed the leftover acrylic and then went to town doing my Pink and whites. First thing I noticed was she asked me what shade of pink I wanted, how long I wanted my nails, and how much white I wanted on them. I liked that I have options! Went with the lightest pink and "medium" for the amount of white. I noticed she did them differently than I've ever seen.... She does the pink then the white (normally I've always had them done the other way around) but they turned out PHENOMENAL!!!! They are Perfectly shaped and very smooth. She really took her time making sure they were shaped right. She didn't cut me either (I always end up getting my cuticles cut by the drummel) she was very careful. I will never let anyone else do my nails ever again! I know good work when I see it and I stick to it! I feel happy when my nails are done. Since I'm a gym rat and always working out people just think of me as a "bad ass" but I am feminine and can appreciate nice nails! read more

I've been here twice. The first time I came I made a reservation but still waited over an hour to get my nails done. I got acrylics and was pretty pleased with how it came out, but definitely would not have came if I knew the wait. It wasn't spectacular or anything. Few months later I came for a second time. I made reservations and made sure I wouldn't have to wait. I came for a gel mani and a pedi. I waited maybe 3-5 minutes and was seated for my my pedi. My pedi came out pretty nice, but while they were getting started on my mani, a rush of clients came in and she rush-finished my nails... it came out ok. Honestly could've done the nails myself and it would've came out neater. They also do that thing where they ask if you want something, and don't tell you that it's going to be an extra charge and you don't know it until you're paying. I had to ask why I had an extra $7 and $5 and they said it was for a cuticle thing and a leg massage that they gave me after my pedi.... Really. -_- Oh, and they charge an extra dollar for using your credit/debit card. The only reason I came the first time and back the second time was because it's 2 blocks from my house. But I guess I'll just stick to my nail salon in LA. My first visit I would give 3 stars, and my second visit 2 stars. read more
