The facility and specials they run are great! Particularly for families. Tuesday and Sundays they have amazing specials for families. These have changed a bit over time but there is some version of it on those days-check the website for the most accurate info. When we came the Tuesday special was $2 dollars for $5 dollars on each card. And then $4 dollars for bowling and $2 dollars for shoe rentals. We did both options and enjoyed both! All of that was 5 stars. What was not 5 stars- The service at the bowling alley lane. Almost non existent. She forgot our drinks, didn't even check in on us until after we had finished the wings where we were shorted the amount of wings we order (which she never fixed). Really poor service experience. Outside of the poor lane service was the dark hallway to the bathrooms and darkness in a part of the parking lot making it feel less than safe. read more

I came here for an afternoon bowl and the lanes were more modern with the colors and interior. However my lane did have some issues with racking the pins as it broke 3 times during my time. I was surprised with how big this place is. I love the second story that overlooks huge screens for game day. Only reason I have 4 stars is because the bowling is a little expensive ($45 for 1 hour) but it comes with the experience of having a server and full food menu. I had a fantastic time at Uptown Alley. We went after going to the movies and we weren't disappointed. The vibe as you walk in is festive and so inviting. At first I really thought how bad could this place be but it's kind of really bad! The people working there are so rude! Also it takes forever to get food AND drinks! And not just alcohol drinks for some reason that's faster but we ordered a sprite and water and it took 30 minutes! The food was bad so eat before! There were 5 of us that attended the event at your Uptown Alley here in Richmond. We sat at the bar, there were 4 bartenders. One of which was a black guy, I believe his name was Giles. We ordered food, it came in a timely matter. Although they didn't bring the sauce to dip the chicken or the pub chips, they came later. We sat in the bar seats looking straight at the band and our back were to the TVs and the downstairs bar. My husband and I ate dinner and we moved the plates to the edge of the bar, for them to be removed. Well "Giles" immediately yelled at us not to put our plates there for that is where he makes drinks, he insisted he will pick them up. He wasn't only rude but loud!!! At which time the band had not even started playing music. Obviously we were not happy with his attitude over dirty plates that he didn't move! As the night moves on a person in our party ordered pub chips. He never put the order in. I am sure because he was pissed off over the dirty plates and where we had put them. So he did not put the order in for the Pub Chips after 40 minutes, the person asked him if he put the order in, he said yes. So we waited another 10/15 minutes and asked Sham where are the pub chips, he said they were just ordered. We explained to him that wasn't the case they were ordered 40/50 minutes ago at this point. Sham then went downstairs and got the pub chips for her. We have been coming to your upstairs bar for years. When we started coming to Uptown Sham was a bar back now he is a bar tender. I will say this place is getting worse when it comes to customer service and cleanliness! The girls bathroom upstairs literally had a puddles water sitting on the floor in the stalls. Not too mention the water in the sinks was freezing cold. I honestly like coming to watch the bands at Uptown and we tip generously when we have good service. Our tab was $87 last night and we did tip $20 because Sham, Amanda and I believe the black girls name was Sarah? Did a great job and we know they tip share so therefore we didn't want to take that away from them but if I could not tip him I promise you I wouldn't. He needs to learn customer service, be nice across the board no matter the color of our skin, treat everyone the same. Pick up dirty plates and not get mad when we move them to the edge so that he would get them. At which point he ignored us we couldn't even ask for a water. We even yelled "Bartender" and he would walk by us and not offer to help. By the end of the night sham was getting our drinks. I don't expect any handouts because of this email, but I do expect for someone to talk to the guy because he was extremely rude and then he ignored us the rest of the night. We were on the upstairs lanes and had to move lanes because the first one didn't work well, the machines also kept missing our scores. The plus was - the chicken wings are decent taste. They had the right cook and the dry rub was well seasoned. They still have their QR codes around from the pandemic but ordering on those is difficult if you're like me and want to adjust menu items. This place is hit-or-miss really depending on what you're looking for if you're looking for bowling, go up the street and go to the old school bowling. Alley, that's on whole street. It's noisy. There's always something going on. It's kind of one of those things where you go to a restaurant and they have 900 pages of items. And none of those things is good. It's kind of that's what's going on with this place. They have 900 things going on. And none of them are really that great or standout, particularly the food is okay and honestly, let's save 9 million okays by saying that everything is about okay or 2 out of 5 Stars. If I were to rate it, the staff are usually okay. When you're able to get them which is one of those things which is a bit annoying, I can understand on a Friday. And Saturday night, however, during the week they grossly understaffed. So it causes similar Issues with staffing, there are sometimes concerts going on, which some people may like that's outstanding and definitely one of those things that you should partake into. I believe that they have a Facebook page and other social media that you can follow to see. Who's playing? And sometimes it is a good night, depending on how many people can actually fit in the building during that period of time. Sometimes it can get a little rowdy, might want to look online to see the. Recent incidents that occurred, but I guess it kind of comes with the whole thing of having. So many different things going on at the same time with multiple levels and multiple age groups. I guess it's to be expected, but it is what it is other than that go. A night out for bowling with friends. The floor server was too busy taking orders with the group next to us so I went to the bar to place my order. Another floor server was there and I asked her could I place an order at the bar and she stopped what she was doing to take my order. Well, we did NOT have fun this time. We like that partitions were added between the lanes. We were disappointed that the VR area has been removed. We didn't order any food. The arcade was busy and overpriced. The location was too crowded and the wait to bowl was over two hours. If things are really this busy maybe the business should consider online reservations so potential customers don't drive 45 minutes to the establishment to turn around and leave (lost revenue). IMHO, maybe call before you go and try to figure out how busy they are before attempting to visit. May the odds be ever in your favor! read more

I came here with friends for salsa Tuesday with Richmond Salsa Guy. I have had one other lesson with him so I can say that he adapts the lessons to the crowd. If the crowd looks like beginners and they are struggling, it's basic. If they got it, he will give you a lot more variety. So, the dancing was fun. It's a tiny dance floor, but that doesn't seem to be the main attraction. There is a LOT to do here if you are into bowling and games. You can eat or drink an an adult atmosphere. There is lots of seating for socializing as well. The place is clean and beautiful. I didn't have any issues with the staff or bathroom. It's pretty far away from me, but I'd come back on a Tuesday for salsa. read more

Had a horrible experience today at Uptown. It's my usual "go to" for NFL Sunday. No one waited on us for over an hour...had to got to the bar to get our own drinks. Plenty of staff present, just couldn't seemed to be bothered to serve us. Our nachos (ordered by us at the bar) came an hour later and were stone cold. When brought to someone's attention, they promised to remake them. Wrong! The same, sad nachos appeared back, 30 minutes later, only to have been microwaved. We received a "fresh" plate 20 minutes later that my dog couldn't stomach. We definitely got out steps in, running to the bar for drinks, food and a "serve yourself" water station. Save your money, people! They obviously don't want/need our business. I will be sticking to the Page and o'Tooles where I'm not ignored. read more

Starting with the good, the waitress that worked food orders was fantastic. The front desk could use a modicum of customer service training. Lanes were dirty, previous customers left the lane a mess and with only 15 other lanes available what was management to do but put us (4) on a dirty lane. $50 for a family of 4 to bowl for an hour. Food was NOT good. Extremely salty even the kids wouldn't eat it. Of special note, after searching for children's bowling balls for about 10 minutes, a parent informed us that they were located at the front desk. Not all Screens work. At least not at the dirty lane.... But must have more than 6 to use two lanes or a clean lane. Came on a Friday night to see the band that was playing. Was surprised to see online that there was a five dollar cover charge, felt weird for the venue but it clearly doesn't keep them from having a decent crowd. Drinks were a little more expensive than I'd like to pay but pretty tasty. The live music was good and not super loud, which was impressive given the size of the space. Downstairs is the arcade which has an impressive line up of games. Getting a "token" card is easy and it takes cash. I enjoyed seeing games I'd never seen before and had fun trying some out. Called ahead a few weeks in advanced to join waitlist. The ladies over the phone were very accommodating with changes, ensuring we could have two lanes together at the requested day and time. I was really hopeful that everything would go well. Received conflicting text messages about the time which confused some of our party but we were flexible to wait until some lane's reopened for us and everyone showed. The guys at checkout didn't seem to want to negotiate around our time change. They made us wait for everyone to show to be able to get our lanes and shoes. We also were capped on the system as to the bowlers we could add from our end. While waiting for our lanes we went to the bar area downstairs to order some drinks and food. No one greeted us but was told by the bartender to sit down at a table and someone would be out to assist us. What really happened.. No one ever came to bring us waters or anything. We ordered using the scan code and the food arrived before our drinks. Weird! There were plenty of servers standing around even managers back and forth and we were yet to be acknowledged by anyone because they were too busy chilling and conversing amongst themselves. Very unprofessional. The plates were dirty, my drink came out incorrectly and the wings were just okay/kind of salty, in my opinion. Don't think I will ever sit in the bar area again to eat but just wait to be served in the lanes which seemed more efficient for others in our party. We had a really fun time bowling with our group. The system is a little outdated so it will skip people at times and not track your score adequately. I had the worst service, there was only one server named Elizabeth and she came up to our table maybe one time. I cannot stress how bad the food was. Went about two weeks ago on a Sunday and it was pretty busy. We were told for a party of 6 to bowl was an hour wait but it ended up being quicker than that. We sat in the restaurant and ordered drinks and appetizers while we waited, and the lane was ready a little before our appetizers came out. Came a few times when this place first opened and wanted to celebrate my partners birthday. This experience was absolutely horrible. The service was nonexistent. You have to order by phone, there is no wait staff to serve you. The chicken tenders were not seasoned, chicken on Cobb salad was old, and the water tasted like it was from the toilet. Speaking of toilets......ladies bathroom was despicable. Report said it had been cleaned 15-min before and that's largely impossible. Toilets filled with unflushed tissue paper and someone's business--YUCK! This was a horrific experience that I will never return to nor will I recommend that others visit. Prior to taking my daughter bowling for the first time a few weeks ago for one of her classmates birthday, my husband went to Uptown Bowling when it opened years ago for night time bowling. Funny we haven't been back since. My daughter really enjoyed herself at the birthday party and I wanted to bring my son and husband back. So... I'm rating this based on it being a family location on Sundays. We took advantage of the Sunday Fun Pack. It was $59.99 includes 4 pairs of shoes, one game of bowling for 4, 4- $15 game cards, 4 beverages and 1 -one topping large pizza. Honestly it was a great deal! It occupied ~2 1/2 hours of our day. The pizza was probably not the best in the world... but it's pizza from a bowling alley... what do you actually expect LOL...provably better than your local bowl America:) The Kiddos has a great time bowling and playing the games (Imagine small scale Dave and Buster's ... cheesy prizes... but kids out kids they don't know a difference. I got to say I like this place it's more than one level which gives you plenty of room to move around. They have pool, several bars, bowling and an arcade. The food was a lot better than I thought it would be I had burger sliders, quesadillas, wings both barbecue and Buffalo, fries and pizza. Be careful with your bills here. We came to see a band on Friday night, got there early and got a table. Ordered food and they told me they needed a card and it was just a "hold", but anyone could pay the bill at the end of the night. So, one of the other members of our party graciously was going to pay the whole bill and he did at the bar at the end of the night. Well somehow the entire amount was still taken out of my bank account and it was a total of $130 for food and drinks for our party. I will never give them my card again. Now we have to figure out if he is going to be charged and if not we have to go through the hassle of him reimbursing me. If I could give zero I would. We had 2 children with us meeting for the first time , unknowingly siblings. We sat there for 20 minutes trying to get someone to turn the tv on in the lane they put us at, waited another 20 minutes for soft drinks and water we had to order through the app because nobody ever came over, she came maybe 30 minutes after we had been there already and her reason for that was because somebody called off. Absolutely unacceptable. I would have left a 50 on the table being I manage a restaurant myself. For such a great place , seems the staff and management is bringing it down. Won't be back. Checked out this awesome place with my family and was very happy we came. We were originally going to check out an amusement park close by but the 104 degree temperature said stay inside somewhere cool!!!!! They had lots of family package specials and very nice people at the counter. There was a group of 10 plus and they were able to accommodate all of us at the ally. The waitress was very nice and accurate with our orders. The kids had lots of fun and the adults too :). Very clean, lots of space. They have a rooftop, full bar and menu (but no fried pickles, yes that makes me sad because I loooovvvveeeee fried pickles and like to rate them) A lot of parking, different activities such as an arcade and pool machines. What really attracted me to check this out again when I'm in town is the roof top. Looked very nice and clean but I don't blame them for not having any one there cause it was HOT, I mean HOT!! Uptown Alley is a great place for bowling, pool, or going to the bar, BUT... You're better off going somewhere else if you're looking for a bite to eat. I ordered buffalo wings wet, and the wings came out dry with barely any seasoning. Besides that, the Happy Hour menu, offered Monday-Friday from 4p-8p, has great deals such as: $3 domestic pints/well drinks, $4 craft pints, & $5 specialty cocktails, and $5-$6 appetizers. I would recommend this place for an outing with friends, family, a date, or if you want to go out solo. Overall, if you ever find yourself in Midlothian, and are looking for something to do, Uptown Alley is definitely worth the visit. She tried to LIE to the manager in front of my face saying that I "was told" about not getting a refund for this ridiculously cold food. when i was never told that. on top of that my food was ready the third time i came up there but they kept lying to me, saying that "it wasnt ready when i could see it right on the counter. fast forward, i went back after FORTY FIVE ENTIRE MINUTES!!! and she among with every other bartender on staff that night serviced everyone around me, behind me, next to me, but not me. it took them ten minutes to realize that i did in fact exist and not their imagination. after that i was welcomed with warm fuzzy attitude of someone who hates having a paycheck and a well seasoned yet stale and cold appetizer. who in her vacuous mind thought I must've been someone who was going to tolerate this nonsense. We always have a great time coming here. Usually we start with a game of bowling. While we are bowling a waiter will come by and serve you. Nice to get a beer and an app while you are playing. If you only play one game get your order in first so you finish before the game is over. Always ask for the beer specials too. If there is a wait for bowling you can grab a drink and enjoy some games in the game room. You have to get a card and load it with money. The games earn you tickets and you can buy some cheesy gifts with the tickets you earn. I know there is a lot more to do here but that is all we have done. It seems like they have a good night life. I heard that they do line dancing on Wednesdays but I just haven't done any of that. read more

Last night (Thursday)was my first visit to Uptown Alley. My husband and I went for dinner and bowling. We had read the reviews before going so we knew not to go on the weekends. Many of the reviews said the following: food is good, the building is beautiful with lots to do, bowling lanes are nice, food a little pricy, and the customer service is horrible. Well those reviews were dead on. After dinner we went to our lanes for bowling and I asked the waiter supposedly taking care of the bowling lanes for 1 thing, which was 2 glasses of water. Initially we waited 30 minutes before I asked him a second time for some water (same waiter) after another 15 minute wait my husband asked the same waiter again (mind you this was water). This time I actually watched to see if he would stop his social outing with some patrons who I suppose he knew as he talked to them for well over 20 minutes. After my husband asked him to please bring us the water and walked away this waiter had the audacity (or maybe immaturity or someone that doesn't really need a job or worst trying to ensure paying patrons never return to the establishment still haven't figured out which) to turn his back and go right back to talking to the patrons he had already spent 20 minutes socializing with and completely ignoring both of us. On the forth occasion my husband asked the young female waitress who had accompanied the same waiter in their conversation with the couple that apparently were suppose to be their only customers for the night if she would bring us some water. If you guessed she didn't give us any water (keep in mind WATER) you guessed correctly. Finally this kind waiter, or rather a new employee named Chris (who was actually working and clearing tables) was busy wiping a table down and I asked him if I could get a glass of water, he said yes, and within 1-2 minutes I got a glass of water. Chris was pleasant, efficient, did his job without an attitude, and didn't behave as if he was doing us a favor. Oh, almost forgot I asked the same waitress who didn't bring us the water to get the manager for me and (stupid me if you guessed she didn't get the manager you guessed right) of course she ignored that request to. And went right back to socializing with her waitress friend (looked like they were infatuated with each other and not worried about complaints or losing their jobs). Guess they got it like that with management because when we went to the counter and asked again for the manger a young woman met us in the lobby. She apologized for the behavior while at the same time said she couldn't believe he (didn't get his name but the manager knows who he is) behaves that way. Humm, guess he has her fooled. I explained to her that my husband and I were new to the area and had read the YELP reviews but decided a Thursday wouldn't be busy so the service should be okay. Since the reviews were dead on and if they continue with the bad reviews once the newness of the place wore off they were going to lose business because they hire people that are not vested in the business growing. She thanked us, never said she would speak to the employees, or bothered to ask how she could make things right (not even a gift card for a free game) and went on her merry way. My husband and I spent $80.00 including tips in the restaurant didn't go 51/50 on the waiter or waitress and the best the establishment could do was let another complaint go in one ear and our the other. WOW!!!! We are new residents from California and will probably not return to Uptown Alley again, not even for the great food, nice lanes, or beautiful building...and if we do ever come again we will bring our own water...I know I wrote waaaay too much but I had to tell anybody and everybody to listen and pay attention to the YELP comments about Uptown Alley because they are on point! And Uptown Town local management if you are reading this review, I don't ignore people and I don't like being ignored so since you didn't think our complaints about your customer service mattered I've decided to write to your corporate office maybe you will listen to them. And to the rude and unprofessional waiter and waitress, you can be replaced by the two young ladies working the counter at the entrance or Chris the young man who just started. As all of them were courteous and very professional so don't hate on them for the compliments they receive. If I could give you separate stars for service and another star for the food, lanes, and lovely establishment I would but since I can only give one rating you get a 1, because the food could have been just okay, the lanes okay, and the establishment fair and I would have given a higher rating.
